  1. Posted this on a different thread, but why are we not getting after some of those players in the transfer portal already? Oline, D line and CBs galore in the portal already. Hearing that Texas might have as many as 33 players enter the portal in coming days. I think Sean Snyder would be a great addition to this staff. First off, he is great special teams coach. Second, I would not be afraid to name him next head coach if Frosty fails like I think he is going to. Snyder would and could get this program back to at least a Big 10 caliber team and beat the teams we should.
  2. I don't know about coaches being pursued, but has anyone looked at the transfer portal lately? Since Sept 1, Indiana has had 7 players enter the portal, Wisky has a lot as well. That really doesn't matter, but what matters is why are we not recruited some of those transfer portal players already? Decent talent in there already. Have we been trying and none of those guys want this program or what? I see some talent on those lists. Don't see 5 stars but I see some talent.
  3. Frosty will hire someone who can run his system. Arrogance. Nothing says that Chins will stay. If I were Chins, seeing 4 guys fired for really for no reason other than needing someone to take a dump on, i would be looking elsewhere. If Frost gets the O figured out and the defense takes a dump, Chins is out next year. With the current openings, I can see someone approaching Chins as a DC. Sean Snyder might be a good person or fit as Head coach here. He knows and has seen a program being built from nothing to something. He would at least run the ball and play defense, with a special teams that would be a factor.
  4. Tom Hermann and Bill O' Brien are not the answer. Neither guy would consider this job at any level, HC or OC. This is why Trev retainted Frosty. I am sure that Trev has had some feelers out since mid October and found no takers. 1. We need a good OC who can recruit. 2. O line coach who can recruit and put guys in the LEAGUE. 3. Hire a Special teams coach 4. Hire recruiters first, then a QB coach. QB coach is only good if he can develop and recruit. RB coach is last position I would fill. Even saying all of this, were still behind most of the West division. They are not afraid to play us anywhere and anytime. If you watched Michigan today, you saw what power football can still do and you saw what elite defensive line can do against a spread team.
  5. Just watched Minnesota beat Wisky. Those two teams aren't going anywhere soon. They play power football, and do not beat themselves. Iowa does not beat itself. Northwestern will be better next season. Do we see Illinois being better? Indiana won't suck as bad next season. Having a hard time finding 6 wins with our current system and coach. Purdue will not be any worse, could be better. Saying all this again because I just don't see how we compete like we did this year. We won't lose games next season by one score or single digits. This team mentally won't handle it like this team did. Fools gold.
  6. Just to add a few remarks: Who would come here even in the transfer portal? We might have a lame duck coach and staff next season. 2AM probably will come back because no one else wants a QB thats rehabbing a shoulder injury. Who do we lose after this debacle? Yant? Irvin? Scott? IF i were those running backs I would be searching the transfer portal. There is enough tape on those dudes now that I could see many teams wanting them. Smothers? If this team and its talent isn't handled right, right now, we won't have alot coming back next season. The defense will not be the same one next season. We are losing too much on that side. 5-7 is the best record I can see for this team next year. Maybe 6-6, but I am struggling to find 5 wins as we sit right now. 6 wins would at least get a bowl game, but is that really what were after right now? I truly think that if Frosty can't win 7 next season this experiment is over and we move on. We watched this happen soon after we joined the Big 10. Each and every team in the West improved in a short amount of time, and we did not and fell well behind. He is 2022 coming and I see teams that will improve going into next season and were still cellar dwellers. Illinois will be better. Northwestern will not be a bottom feeder next season. We know about the rest of the teams, but we know nothing about our own!
  7. Lets really break down some things that we don't control: Northwestern will not stink next year-can't count that as a win Illinois will improve upon what they did this year because Bielima can coach up players Minnesota will be Minnesota and Ibrahim is coming back. Iowa is the same team as Minnesota, they will be 7-8 win team again Wisky- They will be better on offense next season and likely be a 9-10 win team. Nebraska-? How many easy wins do you see in the West division alone? I am seeing maybe 2 right now. My issue is Frost will not hire an OC that changes too much. It will be someone who calls his plays and calls them with his approval. Things will not change to much. After watching yesterday and seeing the same mistakes and poor play calling with a different QB, this season all comes down to Frost being the one constant. By the way, Smothers did a fine job. He played good enough that I don't know why we were sending 2Am out there all season if he wasn't 100%. Thats another area where Frost struggles. He can't identify talent, and what works on the field. I don't care about practice. Yant looks the part on the field, and so did Smothers.
  8. Smothers could have played in the Purdue game, Minnesota game, ETC. He is talented kid. Could be really good QB if we play football that compliments his abilities. Frosty is over his head. His play calling was good until all the scripted plays were used up. ONce he had to identify what works and what doesn't, it all failed. That called halftime adjustments. Its also called being out coached once again. Iowa, friggin, Iowa which doesn't even sniff this Nebraska team with comparable talent won the game because Ferentz can coach and make adjustments.
  9. We ran the ball alot today, but they were spread option pitches to our WR's and smallest players we can put on the field. Running the balls is in my opinion, running at teams, up the gut, punishing linebackers and D-line. Our run game is not that. We run at the cornerbacks with wideouts and Belt. Its time to start playing old school football. This is not working. It hasn't worked. It worked in the AAC because every team runs the identical same s#!t. I bet Big 10 D-lines and Linebackers out weigh AAC players by 25 to 50 pounds at same positions. Disgusted with this. I don't mind losing when the other teams are better. I mean better. We have proven that we are as talented and capable of hanging with anyone. We lose by mistakes that are fixable, which haven't been yet(coaching) and stupid play calls( coaching) and we leave our defense on an island in each game hoping they can finish the game for a win. Each game this season, our D has played really well, but our offense hasn't helped them out one bit. Running the ball , down hill, even if we don't get first downs at least alllows our D some rest. Coaching, thats the issue. This is only fixable at this point with a whole new staff. We kept Frost so we wouldn't lose Chinander. Each side of the ball will need new players next season. Even if we retain some, we are losing playmakers on both sides. Next season is the right time to move on from this whole thing. Chins will get a head job somewhere either now or next season regardless.
  10. Frost didn't help his QB today. Run Yant, run Scott, throw the ball to our TE's more and let Smothers have a chance to win this game. I actually think Smothers can have a bright future here if we run the true option with fullback and I formation. He is a decent passer, when given time to do so. Iowa ran the fullback today and it made me almost sick to think that is what football is in the Big 10, its what football should be in general when your offensive line beat up and semi trash. Use an extra blocker...........genius.....freaking genius!
  11. Frankly speaking, Frost has repeatedly shown us who and what his teams are. This is not Big 10 football, this is more like a circus. I am glad he fired his offensive staff so we could see how bad of a playcaller he is actually on his own. Yant was running hard today. Why not keep pounding the ball, running clock and protecting a lead? This team has no substance, all fluff. All of that motion in and out of the backfield is useless 75% of the time. Once defenses figure out that its all windowing dressing, they shut down this so called vaunted offense. If Frost doesn't hire a good OC, with run first mentality, its all for nothing. I was a Frost guy, but after watching this script play out over the last two weeks, he is the problem. Smothers did a fine job today when he was using the scripted plays early. Once the game got further along the plays being called were identified early and Iowa sniffed out everything.
  12. Take 3- If we don't hire a good OC, with power run game as his first priority the other takes don't matter either. Here is what I think might happen in a nutshell. Since we have Teddy Pro sidelined due to injury and when he was in lineup we won, that will provide Frost with some sort of reason to only tweak the offense, not change it. Second issue with Frost is that when players make mistakes, they don't see the field for along time or a whole game, except A Mart. Sorry but Yant is our best back, its not even close. Omar Manning is maybe our best weapon, but rarely used. We keep putting Oliver Martin back to receive punts even though he won't run for 5 foot gain. Playmakers are risk takers, live with the bad because the good is far greater.
  13. Take 2- After hiring an offensive line coach, the next hire should be QB coach. Forget OC, that really doesn't matter. Frost isnt changing his ways or system. If he does, then I will praise him for it, but it isn't happening. QB coach is needed, right behind offensive line coach. We need our Qb's coached better.
  14. It appears like the same team without those coaches and the same plays being called. This team is by no way fixed or fixing itself. The only thing now is we can point at 4 coaches who might not have been doing great things here, but were not the reason we lost games. I will say this one last time: Frost and his offense is junk. We just lost to a team that can't do anything other than run the ball and run the ball very well. Take the spread offense that Frost runs and it needs scrapped completely. Sure we put up yards, sure today we scored 28 points, but it won't last. We have been beaten by power run teams all season long. The most important hire right now is offensive line coach. I don't see Frost changing his offense. He is too stubborn, and too arrogant. He won't change until he is fired. For some reason, playing power football must mean that this won't be Frost team, but maybe his old coaches way's and he doesn't like that. Everyone who has come here since Solich has refused to play power football. Explain that when we get our rears kicked by every team that plays power football. Were still light years away.
  15. I would love Paul Johnson as OC. On a serious note I am sure Dr. Tom and Frosty have talked and I am sure Trev has spoken to him as well. I am guessing that things were seen through out this season that none of them liked on offense. Dr Tom surely has offered some mentoring on the offensive side. Here is the thing: We have enough talent and are good enough right now if we would have just run the ball we would have won at least 3 more games at this point right now. Skill vs Culture Great quote that has stuck with me since it was said. Its very true
  16. I am really skeptical about this whole thing right now. Will quality assistants/coordinators even think about coming here if Frosty has a chance of getting the ax next season? The first thing I am doing before I take this job is calling those who were axed and getting feedback. Might find out its just a mirage and things won't improve no matter how many coaches leave and come into the program.
  17. We will lose some players, we do each season no matter who stays or goes on the staff. I expect some roster turnaround. The key is getting the next staff members who might or might not have some ties to recruits elsewhere. Thats how this game is played now. If we can get guys from USC or LSU with some huge recruiting ties, you never know!
  18. We have so many options now as to whom we can go and get for these open slots on the staff. LSU, USC, Texas Tech, and TCU all have some decent players that might look to transfer elsewhere
  19. We all know that this was coming. Either Frost was going, or his staff was changing. Regardless. Forget Tom Herman. We need something fresh or completely old school. Tom Herman can't recruit in the state of Texas now. Thats a big negative. I look for us to grab someone with Texas ties on the recruiting level at an assistant position coach. With TCU, Texas Tech hiring new staffs, there are going to be plenty of coaches with ties to that base for recruiting.
  20. We do not have better talent than 9 out of 10 Big 10 teams! Show me those players.........We do have better talent today than we had 3 years ago, and I think we are getting more talent and experience. Talent aside, we need to mental talent right now, whether it be players or coaches. Fix that first. Believing we can win first. Fanbase included. So I am still in the camp of giving Frost one more year. I think at this point were the fools if we fire another coach after 3 or 4 seasons. At least give him one more year to stop that national image from completely ruining this storied program. It is now up to Trev. He has to make this decision and make it work for all sides. If Trev needs to tell Frost that the scheme and staff are junk try something else then that needs to be said. I am sure the decision has been made either way. Trev and the University should make it public sooner than later regardless of which way it goes. Waiting until the end of the season does no one any good. Too much speculation is not good either way no matter which side your on.
  21. One more area of this that needs to be discussed is our lack of talent: People if you can't open your eyes and see that we don't have bonafide NFL players on this roster your not watching the same game I am. Purdue has a defensive player and at least one offensive player who are no doubters. Who on our current roster fits that bill? Who? We don't and have not gotten those players on campus yet and haven't since Addullah and Gregory. 7 seasons where we haven't really mustered much on any NFL talent for the draft. Is this player development or is it misleading recruiting stats and information? I have heard both. I hear that our recruiting is overinflated and really our talent level isn't actually Top 20 caliber and I hear that we have decent talent that just doesn't get better once it enters Memorial stadium.. I guess what I am saying is it all comes down to coaching. Either we are not getting Big 10 talent or we are not developing Big 10 talent, doesn't really matter which came first, chicken or the egg.
  22. I am in the camp that says we don't find a winning P5 coach willing to take on this job right now. First off, we have a small recruiting class coming in. We have alot of guys as of right now planning of returning for there 10th year! If Frost is let go, we more than likely will have half a roster left for next season. It would take the right guy to bring in players thru the portal to even get us to a competitive point like we are now. Not saying I think we should keep Frost but just saying with the current landscape and such, I don't know if we have alot of options. I think we almost have to ride this out for one more season, hope we notch some high level recruits, and then see what happens. For those who think that Urban or Stoops would even listen are so far out in left field its not even funny.
  23. Forgot Texas Tech. Its just beginning. I expect at least 10 more jobs come open besides the ones that come open because there guy took and open job. I am figuring on Penn St being open and maybe Michigan St if Tucker goes to LSU. That would put us in third best opening in our own conference. Its just easier to recruit to Michigan St and Penn St than to Nebraska. National recruiters have been telling us this, we just haven't been listening!
  24. Chadwell- NO We hired Chadwell when we hired Frost. Don't see any difference between the two. Bohl- might laugh at us now. Orgeron-No . He can recruit, but can't really coach or retain his cordinators. Stoops- wouldn't come here for any amount of money Were stuck with Frost for the next 2 years. If he would hire a new staff, minus Chins, we might have something. For those who think that the Big 12 is dead are wrong. Iowa St will have a chance most years now to contend or compete for conference title.
