  1. Well said. While I don't think things would have turned out much differently in the grand scheme of things, the death of a beloved senior leader when the program was already in a fragile spot is not an enviable spot to be in. I feel like Riley is oddly leaving the program in a good spot. He united the fan base (granted it was against him) and he set up the next guy to play the Gridiron Gang card. Your way got you here, now it's time to do things my way. The next coach should have zero issues getting buy in.
  2. You need to keep Riley on for the next couple weeks because it fits the narrative. If Riley is still the HC he's the guy at the front of the pack getting the slings and arrows and taking the brunt of the criticism. The second you fire Riley the narrative shifts to Moos and things turn into overdrive (even moreso than they are now) where Nebraska fans start tracking flights and go 100% volcano level crazy. Keeping Riley on buys Moos cover to do his thing. Nebraska is paying Riley a lot of money to essentially be a punching bag right now. Let him take the hits.
  3. The Vegas win total opened at 6 so no, you weren't the only one. I'm not trying to be condescending at all but if you know the way that win totals are set up than a 10-2 record would've been a gigantic reach. Vegas doesn't make a lot of mistakes by that large of margin.
  4. I did not see an option for 'yes'. This poll is invalid.
  5. Given the topic name and the level of snark in the thread, I thought a sarcastic, snark filled response was appropriate.
  6. I would imagine PSU is going to open up as a favorite somewhere in the -33 to -35 range. I would peg their team total somewhere around 45.5
  7. It's a nice sentiment and if Riley had some ties to Nebraska I could see it. Unfortunately this was just a bad marriage and it's best for all parties if everyone went their separate ways. Pay the coaches what they're owed and let's turn the page.
  8. Wrestling team is also loaded with a lot of exciting young talent. #options
  9. Thankfully Nebraska plays in a division that I feel like if you can get a combo of a great coach and a great QB, that takes care of a whole lot of ills. Next year will obviously be difficult with both the coaching change plus the schedule is quite difficult. Year 2 though? I think (more hope) that things can hopefully start to get turned around. Nebraska has a lot of youth, hopefully they can get it turned around.
  10. This doesn't exactly bode well for Nebraska going forward. You have an absolute front runner in Franklin that won't take the pedal off the metal and Iowa will be looking to absolutely curb stomp Nebraska and drive the stake home. Gross. Just gross.
  11. Yes, Diaco tricked UConn into giving him the HC job. He only tricked Nebraska into the DC job! Although to be fair, we really only needed him to screw up the defense. We already had the parts in place for sabotage on offense. I call it a draw!
  12. I watched Minnesota play Iowa a couple weeks ago. It. Was. Brutal.
  13. Singapore canes the bejebus out of folks still. I seem to remember an American getting caned at least 15 years ago for shoplifting or maybe spray painting graffiti? EDIT: It looks like it was theft and vandalism. Back in 1994. 6 hits of the cane!
  14. I agree 100%. I was trying to add the appropriate level of snark to fit into the thread!
  15. While I agree with you that absolutely nothing good can come of this, this dumpster fire is terrific for the media outlets. I'd love to see what OWH and LJS subscription numbers have done over the past month or so.
  16. Bust in the NFL? I must've missed it when his first 2 seasons in the NFL he went 10-6.
  17. That's cool. We'll just have to agree to disagree. No worries!
  18. That's true and that's why I said Bellotti had Oregon running at a slightly higher clip. I don't think Nebraska is a program that needs to be resurrected like say, Colorado. Colorado was literally dead in the water before MacIntyre took over and even then, they're still struggling a fair bit. It needs to hit on the right coach and than a lot of things fall into place.
  19. That's a fair point Boneyard. That being said, we're 'only' talking about 3 years and one of those was a 9 win season (although we all know it was nothing more than an uptick in positive variance). If we were talking about a decade or more of heavy sustained losing than I would agree a guy like Kelly doesn't make much sense.
  20. I don't think Nebraska has a program that needs to be resurrected per se. Nebraska is in a pretty similar spot that Oregon was under Bellotti. I'll certainly grant you that Bellotti had Oregon running at a slightly higher tick with a few 10+ win seasons and that Chip Kelly came into a pretty good spot taking over after a 10 win season. If you look at Bellotti's tenure though it's pretty if you combined Callahan and Pelini's tenures together.
