  2. Proud parent moment- as I was reheating my leftover am coffee at 5pm, 13 year old son says “that’s like drinking beer at 7 am-why would you do that?”  I told him they both have their place and you’ll find out in college.

  5. People really do love to draw attention to a certain sports personality (whose name rhymes with lip clayless) whenever he says something outrageous, but then they wonder why this dude has a job and attracts so much attention.

Even mentioning his name or quoting a tweet to complain about him is what he and ESPN are hoping for. He's a bombastic personality. Want to shut him up? Gotta stop giving him attention. Shows that fail are the ones that don't have eyeballs or interest.

  6. So I just found out about this Runza secret menu and my mind is just blown.  I can't believe I was too dumb not to ever order or ask about chili cheese fries.  I shall be correcting this over the weekend.

  7. DN staffers turning into the Covid Police!  Ha.  Taking pictures of people on campus not distancing and without masks.  https://omaha.com/news/local/education/unl-suspends-six-greek-houses-after-large-gatherings/article_14b70c1e-8687-56ad-a3c5-101ef60cca14.html

The DN staffer taking the pictures is straight out of central casting for what I'd picture a student reporter to look like.

  10. You local (non-blockbuster non-hollywood video) video store, what was it?  Mine

All-Star Video.  When I was a kid it was my dream to work at that place!

Man...I remember begging my parents to get a Betamax player when I was younger because all the good Japanese cartoon shows like Mobile Suit Gundam, RoboTech and Voltron/Beast King GoLion were only available on Betamax.  They would always just chuckle and shake their heads.

Oh yeah, great call on Applause Video.  I was racking my brain trying to think of another local video store and the name escaped me.

Captain Video it was right next to Cosmic Comics(I think that was the name of it) in the Harvey Oaks plaza.  Man I spent a ton of time in those places as a kid pumping quarters into Mortal Kombat and N.A.R.C.

  14. Anybody have running shoe company suggestions in Omaha? Now that we won't be going to Lincoln this fall, I'm not sure if we'll be heading up there and stopping by The Lincoln Running Company which is where I used to get new shoes.

  15. No cheating...who was the Husker FG kicker in 2013?

  16. I tell you what...a 30 for 30 on the '95 Huskers if it dropped this fall would sure go a long way to soothing some pain on a missed season.  Actually, having HCSF and TO breaking down some of the big games of the 90s over Zoom would be pretty darn cool.  Hat tip to the guy who I saw recommend this on Mitch Sherman's Athletic mailbag.

  17. Has anyone here ever done one of those 'drive a supercar on a local track' experiences? I've long thought about it and it turns out there's going to be one near Omaha Oct. 2-3.

  19. Got pulled over tonight, no front plate.  Cop said can i see your license, i was like well im failing as an adult because my license is expired, my current tags arent on the car, and my insurance card is a year old.  Cop was very cool though, just gave me two warnings and was like these are easily fixable my man.  I thanked him for giving me a break

  20. Me:  Stops at the store and grabs a nice hunk of meat to smoke so that I can make Chicago italian beef sandwiches.

also me:  Doesn't realize my thermometer is set on Celsius and instead of pulling off the smoker at 125...It gets to 155.

  22. Would Alex Gordon have the same legacy and career had he not been a Royal?

Ah, gotcha.  He was pretty good his first 2 years before he really struggled and I remember reading some stuff that his 2011 season was going to be his make or break because of how much he struggled in 2010 and they moved him to the OF as a last resort.  Then 2011 happens and the rest is pretty much history.

I think if he gets drafted by a team other than the Royals, he still gets to the majors but there is definitely a scenario where after 2010 he just can't figure it out at the plate and he ends up as a AAA/AAAA guy.  Even if he got drafted by a team other than the Royals, he would've gotten as many bites at the apple as possible due to his draft status.  It certainly helped Gordon that the Royals stunk.  A more interesting scenario is what if he's a late 1st round pick that gets drafted by a really good team?  Who knows then...Still, he definitely makes the majors just based on what he did in the minor leagues (hint he crushed it).

@ColoradoHusk yup, that's well said.  I definitely agree that going to KC really helped keep him top of mind for people in the Midwest.  I sure hope he gets his number retired in KC, that would be pretty darn cool.

I guess I'd be curious to hear how his legacy is thought of now?  By all accounts, he's had a tremendously successful career.  3x AS, 7x gold glover, WS ring.  Moving into the OF absolutely saved his career.  I get that he was taken #2 overall but baseball is so weird and even the top picks don't work out..heck most of the time.  I've included a link to his draft class and outside of Ryan Braun and Andrew McCutcheon, he's got more career WAR than all of them and there are some absolute studs who got taken that year.  I do think he fell victim early in his career to being compared to Ryan Zimmerman who also played 3b, got drafted 2 slots after Gordon and had a really hot start to his career.
