  1. This isn’t a game preview, but I think it would be great if every Nebraska player had FAMILY in attendance at the OU game. I don’t care how far away they live, I would figure out a legal way to get their butts in the seats (and hopefully standing) to support their player & his team. It has a puncher’s chance to be a historic victory and define a definite turning point on this season’s trajectory.
  2. “I gotta do a better job with the players, before they go to the interviews, and make comments like that.” - MJ WOW! This answer shows the quality of the man and coach we have here. The way he phrased that shows a HIGH degree of emotional intelligence. He didn’t throw the player under the bus - he said it was ON HIM for failing to teach the players how to handle themselves. But he clearly showed it was not a wise comment & he showed the difference between losing & a losing culture. He also sent the message that the statement was not appreciated. THIS was the quote of the interview, IMHO (and kudos to the guy who asked the question).
  3. Urban Meyer is interested only because the Nebraska job has become a cash cow, plain & simple. We've got a whole series of coaches now, who came here for the dump truck full of cash they would "earn" and then the three dump trucks full of cash they would get paid to leave after they have dashed the hopes and dreams of eternally optimistic Nebraska fans. AD Steve Pederson fires Solich with no plan to replace him whatsoever. He woos Urban Meyer when he as still at Utah (5 year contract worth $400K/year). He interviewed interim Head Coach Bo Pelini and former NU QB Turner Gill, but hires Bill Callahan. AD Pederson is fired and replaced by Tom Osborne, who fires Callahan and hires Bo Pelini. Osborne retires as AD (for the 2nd time) and is replaced by Eichorst. Eichorst fires Pelini and hires Riley. Eichorst is fired and replaced by Moos. Moos fires Riley and does what he was brought to Nebraska to do - hire Scott Frost. The inexplicable thing he did was to later give him a contract extension. Moos suddenly "retires" and is replaced by Trev Albert. His Job One is to fire Scott Frost and hire his replacement, but not until some apparently powerful boosters finally understand Frost is never going to be the answer. Frost gets a bigger buyout than the previous three coaches combined (though not by much). Alberts has bought himself some time to deliberate by making Mickey Joseph the interim. There is an outside chance Mickey shines and makes his job difficult, but make no mistake - Trev Alberts reputation as an AD is going to be based entirely on how this decision plays out. Osborne is the only one who made a good decision at HC hire, and I hope he's still serving as a consultant (for both Mickey and Trev). I just don't feel good about Urban Meyer. He's just a ...
  4. Anybody that has been at NU's practices under SF: Did they not tackle in practice under Frost? I loved his comment about tackling & "muscle memory" & inferring you can't have it, if you don't instill it. One thing that needs to change (and CAN CHANGE IMMEDIATELY) is better clock management - with an eye to giving your D a breather. Going 3 and out, and especially going 3 and out FAST is going to have an effect on your own DEF as the game goes on. Take the time you have to run a play, if your D needs it. Snap it with a second or three on the play clock.
  5. I love how a thread about Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph devolves into a discussion about radio personalities. (Sheesh). Oh look, SQUIRREL!
  6. I think this could be significant. Frost has always fancied himself as an offensive play-calling genius. I remember seeing a photo of Whipple, during a game, looking down at his playsheet, trying to make the next call (or the one after that), while Frost stood in front of him. Whipple looked a little red in the face to me. I have to believe that he will even better with Frost out of his face and ear. One point you did NOT make, that I think could be significant - even for the Oklahoma game - is if MJ makes clear to the team that EVERY position is up for reevaluation with him and the staff. You have to make the 2nd teamers feel revitalized with another opportunity, and the 1st teamers to realize their playing time is not a gimme. Demonstrate that by sitting players that are clearly not performing up to their capabilities - even if they ARE team captains. Clearly this is needed more on the defensive side of the ball than the offensive side, but it should apply equally. I also feel that you have to let the assistant coaches know that you want their honest feedback and input. We don't need "yes men" in room this year.
  7. Depends how many other teams KC hangs 42 (or more) on (and how the rest of the season goes).
  8. It worth remembering that Mickey has a brother (Vance) that has 18+ years of experience coaching on the defensive side of the ball, in the NFL alone. Not that he's coming to Nebraska, but Mickey can surely get some input from Vance regarding what he sees in the "eye test" of players and schemes being run so far. He's got three games to analyze for this season and may have a few suggestions. If strength and conditioning appears to be an issue to HIM, we could see a change there pretty quickly also.
  9. This seems like a no-brainer, with their shared history at LSU. I like it!
  10. “Outside the box” thought: Immediately hire Monte Kiffin as a defensive consultant (he can do it from afar & keep his current position with Lane - or not). His advice & connections could be priceless.
  11. The conversations for which I would like to be a fly on the wall are the ones between Mickey Joseph and Chin & his staff.
  12. So does this mean the defense will know how to tackle & pressure the QB next week?
  13. The weirdest thing was Frost saying at halftime he was disappointed with the offense. Look at the time of possession - the defense couldn’t get off of the field against this level of competition. He seems to have it out for Whipple. I think he sees Whipple as being his replacement and it’s driving him nuts to be so uninvolved in playcalling. (He tried to throw him under the bus last week also).

  15. Where some play checkers, Frost is playing chess. Sadly the GAME is Football.
  16. Why? You can’t drink beer and get in a bad mood watching this stuff AT HOME?
  17. Receivers seem to be well-coached, including downfield blocking. MJ for interim head coach.
  18. There is absolutely NO LINE where it isn’t money in the bank to take Nebraska’s opponent.
