  1. Oh, I don't know about that. It's just getting into physics that is really hard to wrap one's head around. Still doesn't rule out religion, and it's not meant to. Quantum mechanics is weird stuff. Ha, I knew as soon as I typed that one sentence that it wasn't necessarily true or exactly what I was trying to say. But I just let it go. Kudos for picking up on that. I would agree that science can and has some theories on something from nothing.
  2. Well here goes, I haven't been ripped on in quite awhile so I'll take my turn in the barrel. I find myself most closely identifying with brb in this thread but I also would say I don't really take issue with anyone, except possibly husker x. I won't say I'm right or X is wrong but personally I just don't like it when someone takes such an absolute position on something that I don't believe can be treated so absolutely. I have no problem in accepting all of the supported science as it pertains to this. I also believe and am personally convinced beyond any doubt in a creator and intelligent design. We can ignore any religions, religious beliefs, the Bible, etc. to address why I believe in an all powerful creator. Science does not answer "why". Science is also not fit to deal with the idea of a supernatural, all powerful creature. It can't be observed or tested. The science of origin simply cannot and will not ever be able to explain something from nothing. And, if it could, would not be able to answer "why" or disprove a creator who also would be responsible for the creation of all evidence and even the ideas and methods used to study it. I agree that this in no way proves the existence of a creator and I will not tell anyone who doesn't believe as I do that they are wrong. But I am convinced beyond all doubt that there is a reason we are here that science has not and cannot address. There really is no more to say than that. Similarities to ancient myths and religions, fundamentalist beliefs, hokey creation museums, etc. may all contribute as evidence against any specific religion being right but they don't have to be right to say a person believes in a creator.
  3. Crazy. Mens 1000m long track speedskating- difference between 1st and 9th is only .82 seconds. 1:08.39 to 1:09.21. Not much room for error IMO.

I guess that's kind of my point. The start, every single stride, the condition of the ice at every point of interaction....there is more to getting on the podium in many of these events. It's not necessarily who is the best or who has trained the best. Its a measurement at one point in time and could be different only ten minutes later or earlier.

He just didn't have it today, it was obvious. The start and first 200m were good, but beyond that, the next gear was just missing. He said he was feeling good and all, so I'm guessing it was a mental/focus issue. One he probably wasn't even aware of. It sucks, but that's how top tier sports go...even the best have off days, and just hope it doesn't come on a competition day.

My son actually did inline ss for a couple years. Won his usars regional and went to nationals in, you guessed it, Lincoln NE at Pershing aud. We've had a strong interest in the sport ever since. Of all his hockey medals and trophies, I think he is most proud of his gold (boys single) and bronze (mixed doubles) from that regional. I think our region was like 8-10 states. Sorry, had to brag a bit.

  4. That's a fair point but I would like to believe well read and knowledgeable fans, as I believe many HBers are, should also know his positions on judging others and the difference between being against something he views as sinful but not being against the sinner. I'm not saying I agree with his public stance on it but I sure haven't seen any other evidence that he is anything less than accepting and supportive of those he interacts with. But I sure can see where simply knowing a person is opposed to homosexuality could cause a gay person to be uncomfortable even with no additional reasons to feel that way.
  5. Went dancing the other night. When the band played "shout", I would shout. When the band played "jump", I jumped. When the band played "come on Eileen", I got escorted out.

  6. I'm a little surprised and quite ashamed that apparently so many think Ron would be/might be the person to make him feel uncomfortable. I know Ron's public position on the subject very well but I also feel I know quite a bit more about him as a person. IMO, he would be the last person on staff to make a gay person feel unwelcomed or uncomfortable.
  7. On my way for an Adovado Burrito from the local dive Mexican food joint. It's like an unmoving taco truck type of place, great food tho.
  8. Cheesey hashbrown potato casserole will surely be a factor of my demise.

      Good way to go though

  9. Problem is we can't dictate integrity. What we can do to some extent is not patronize those who don't just stick to the facts. But there will always be groups of people happier with hearing/reading/seeing what they want instead of just the truth and facts. It is unfixable.
  10. It's not often but every once in awhile you'll run across a thread that renews your hope for humanity. Some of you HBers are really good guys (and gals).

And, as much as I was inspired by the "salad in a jar" in the recipe section, that's not it.

  11. Probably not a bad general rule. Quite a few years ago, over in Fort Collins, they had a topless donut place. Uh no I didn't try it. Some things just don't go together. Did they deliver the glazed donuts on their chest beefers? I don't think so. I heard tell that the "talent" looked like old retired strippers, sad and saggy. Mmmmm, just what you want with your breakfast pastry ehh?

  13. TK's menu looks decent. We're getting a TK in Greeley very soon (might already be open??). The girls may not be enough without good food, service, and ambiance, but hot girls in skimpy outfits sure aren't going to ruin the experience on their own. Irish Stew, Pastrami sandwiches, Shephards Pie, stuff soaked in Guiness, chest beefers with short plaid skirts.....I'll give it more than a fair chance.
  14. FIFY What a freakin whining cry baby. This does make some sense though. B1G school tells recruit the truth and Spurrier laments that it's negative recruiting. He's probably right, I doubt there is much "truth telling" to recruits in the SEC. The concept is so foreign to him, he had to whine about it.
  15. Love me some short track speed skating. Really like it when the Koreans lose.

Loved that tschu. Only bad thing is the 2nd guy got an auto pass to the final cuz of it.

  16. Oh no, how terrible and devastating for those poor people. Haha- the response you'll never hear.
  17. I like the idea of a dedicated campaigning thread. Could produce comedy gold with people telling us why we should nominate/second/vote for them. We've got lots of internet funny guys that would make that one more than worthwhile. I still think the CU avatar would be deserved punishment for campaigning outside that thread or in status updates.
  18. I wish I could still watch WD but I just can't. They lost me the first few episodes of season 4. Really liked the first three seasons but it just seems like a waste of time now. should have known I was headed there because I've been cheering for the walkers to kill everybody, especially Rick and his kid, on that show for quite awhile.
  19. Well at least that 5th snowflake opened up into an Olympic ring on Russian TV. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/glitch-olympics-opening-russia-one-ring-short-170956047--oly.html
  20. I guess I expected womens Olympic hockey to be a little more advanced.. Looks eerily similar to when my son played bantams.

That might have been a bit premature and harsh. The US team looks better than that and Finlands goalie is decent but Finlands forwards...bantam level was being kind.

A decent Canadian high school team could beat any women's team on the planet.

I think I would agree with that. My son quit playing at about 15 yrs old and his last team woulda beat the Finland olympic team. #notevencanadian

  21. Good luck next weekend. We also have one next weekend, RMR Showdown right here in good ole Greeley. Fairly large tourney played at about 6 different venues around town. I really like this one- virtually no travel so we get to sleep in a bit. Our Saturday games will be only about 1 mile from our house. Saweet!
  22. This topic really should have a poll. The short list of options as I see it, in my preferred order; 1- Pederson 2- 96 Texas loss preventing a 61-2 era record with 4 nattys. (60-3 with 3 is still damned impressive tho) 3- The 62-36 CU debacle (don't know about the program but it had a tremendous impact on me as a fan) 4- 00:01 Texas 2009 5- Throwing lifeline to SWC remnants. 6- Lawrence Phillips (included only because I think some fans view it as a watershed event on par with the others) I left Brook off the list on purpose. That is of course the number one thing we would all like to change and I don't think it needs to even be considered in the same topic as these other issues.
  23. That's what a volleyball team is supposed to look like. Congrats Tood. We're in for a rollercoaster ride with my daughters team this year. First power tournament they finished 1-4 and dead last (8th) in their division. But, they played well for the most part and the team they did beat took first place so go figure. Her 2nd power tournament was Superbowl Sunday and they went 4-0 and took first place. Won first 3 games in 2 sets each and the championship game went past regulation points in all 3 sets. Like 29-27, 26-28, 16-14. It was real edge of your seat stuff. I missed the first quarter of the SB because of volleyball.....wish it would've taken about 3 hours longer now.
