Manning talking about havin a BL last week just seals he's all about the bad boy life style and cold one city. That load Brady is probably worried about his fuzzy boots. Idiot.

  2. I've been using a program called BeerTools to calculate my recipes. I think there are other better, more expensive programs but Beertools has worked well for me. Most of the time I brew with three friends but they haven't been too active the past two years. We've only really screwed up one batch. My friend was doing an ESB and we were drinking heavily on bottling day. Well my other buddy stirred the bottling sugar, wildly, in the conical fermenterwe didn't pay attention, and then bottled it. There was still some trub in there and it ended up in the bottles. It was an honest (drunk) mistake as we had prior been racking off to a bottling bucket and weren't used to bottling directly from the conical. Tasted ok but it was ugly and chunky so ended up dumping them.
  3. Looks to be a solid and exciting addition to the staff. I'm not seeing any downside here. Welcome aboard CW.
  4. Yes, yes, and first batch. These are my answers. Seriously though, if you're considering doing it, find a buddy that knows what he's doing and you'll be brewing the good stuff in no time. My first batch was really better than 90% of the beers I've ever bought. It might be a challenge to out do the best microbrews on a consistent basis but it's always much better than any of the mass marketed swill. Brews I've done; A fall fest amber ale with cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove Hefeweizen A wheat beer with coriander An ultra hoppy IPA A black IPA Maple Nut Brown ale, twice. That's it so far. Next up will be an oatmeal stout or a chili beer maybe with tart cherry also. It's not really a way to save money on beer and there are 2 partial days of work involved on brew day and bottling day.
  5. People keep using Oregon and Bama in the same sentence! I just don't get it. They've had some success but IMO they are nowhere near the same caliber as Alabama. Ask the powers that be at Oregon if they would trade their last decade of success for 5 national titles and 3 heisman trophies in their trophy case. I agree, but if we're going to play which one of these doesn't belong, Nebraska over the past 6 seasons doesn't merit mentioning with either Bama or Oregon. I think we all realize that and want something much more substantial than a 9 win paper lion stat that is highly attributable to a plethora of less than stellar competition. Maybe I'm strange and have some bygone sense of entitlement but I am really not impressed at all with this nine win deal. Sure it's better than eight or fewer but it loses it's luster when you factor in the games where we beat ourselves, got blown out, and have no signature wins or hardware to show for the effort. Here's to hoping for brighter and better in the immediate future.
  6. Donkey piss maybe, but the worst tasting beer is Rolling Rock, tastes like skunk piss. Rolling Rock is really, really bad. Like an even crappier Heineken. Rolling Rock = skunky Heineken I only ask because I have never had the experience of Rolling Rock but I have had Heineken that I am pretty sure was left out in the elements for about 8 years.
  7. must have missed it, but i mentioned old milwuakee light. Uh yeah.....missed it, that must be it.
  8. Tolerable old school brews; Rainier Old Style Busch Was going to mention Olympia but there is no discernible difference to watered down donkey piss.
  9. Yeah, but more than dabble in it. It's a fun little hobby once you figure it out and have the equipment needed to do it with good results. BTW, any homebrew is likely much much better than any of the beers mentioned in this thread.
  10. Based strictly on losses per year, as presented, I would trade places with 10 teams on that list, would not trade with 29 of them, and about 4 are a push. But, as I think we all realize, it is not as simple as 9 wins or 4 losses. You have to consider how those W's & L's are acquired, against whom, individual game situations, and even more importantly, how the team performed and if deficiencies are improving. I'm not leading the charge with a pitchfork but I'm sure not satisfied with many things I've seen from Bo. He is on the clock imo, and it is to the point that a single bad loss or single great victory can sway my opinion. Living on the edge so to speak.
  11. Exactomundo! This thread could've/should've ended with post #80 imo. /thread
  12. That should be clue #42 that winning 9 games 6 years in a row, as your top accomplishment, doesn't really mean very much. Sure it's something, but the flip side is he has also lost 4 games every year. I do not believe that stat impresses anyone and I doubt the 4 losses per year stat applies to any of the coaches you named. I would find it impressive if and when we quit suffering blowout losses, win the games we should, and win at least some of the games we shouldn't. Who knows, that might even lead to some conference championships and bcs bowl appearances. Until then, nine wins = meh.
  13. 2ndAre we doing both tackle spots? There are 2 guard and 2 tackle spots listed on the starting lineup so I would say yes. We might need about five more O line spots......in case of injury.
  14. Interesting. I live in Greeley. What small town outside of Cbus did you live in? And no worries, Columbus was/is definitely agriculturally centered, I just was not aware of that fact when I lived there. I went to Columbus High and I think most all of the farm kids went to Lakeview. Since that was a few miles out of town, it just didn't seem like part of Columbus to me. I would guess if they ranked states, Minnesota would have to easily be in the top ten for alcohol consumption so it could still get pretty "bad"
  15. I've got no problems with any of it. Small price to pay in exchange for what the university is providing them. If any of them don't like it, like Strong said; they'll get run over by the culture. I don't like Texas but I like what this Strong guy is trying to do, a lot. There are reasons outside of talent that has kept Texas from being more successful. Seems smart to zero in on some of those things and eradicate them. As impressed as I am with the attempt, I hope it doesn't work out though.
  16. That's about right. I was there 81-84ish and it seems a whole season was about $45.00. We'd go to every game except one, sell it for about $100, make $55 and see all minus one game. Down side was I was not at the OU game when they tore down the goal posts and paraded it down Q street. When I got back to school after Thanksgiving weekend, the main upright with the curve was in my bed at the frat.
  17. Leon Spinks lives there . I believe McDonald's cashier...not kidding Leon is a cool guy. He is married to a girl I graduated HS with. Unfortunately, he took a few too many blows to the head.
  18. Cool 1- I grew up in Columbus-18 yrs. (BTW StPaulHusker- It didn't seem like a "farm" town to me. Lived in town and didn't know any farmers. Closest it came to that was the few years I detassled corn for a summer job) 2- Lived in Lincoln for 5 years. 3- Live about 30 miles from FoCo for the last 28 years. I should be a deadbeat drunk by all accounts.
  19. I also think this is what Landlord was probably referring to, but I'm not sure because he didn't respond so I don't really want to speak for him. But...what's the point of holding the scrimmage if everyone is half-assing it? It kind of goes back to the threads about conditioning and the level of intensity of practice. Injuries are going to happen. It's just the name of the game with football. But if it's an 'understanding' that your practice or scrimmage isn't full-speed, then what's the point of even doing it? edit: Landlord responded when I was typing this...I predicted the 'injury' argument...but not the 'scouting' aspect. I'm not sure...I think even in a scrimmage, both teams would work hard to win, but still not show their entire hand. I agree with you on this. I would like to see them go full bore whether it's intra-squad or vs another team. I think real, live contact may be in short supply in the practice environment and this could help get them some of that. But, I just don't see it being utilized that way, either way. I've only been to one spring game and it was no more than a glorified practice session with everyone getting to see some action. My take away was that the primary purpose was to get the youngsters on the field in front of an almost packed house just to give them a taste. Not sure how or if they would ever transition that into a "real" game against a real opponent.
  20. Sounds intriguing and would seem to be a bigger draw for the fans than an intra-squad scrimmage, but I'm not sure it would serve much of a purpose for the team or coaches. Teams don't want to get anyone hurt and wouldn't show what they can really do. I think it might be the equivalent of an NFL week 4 preseason game and those are pretty disinteresting. Probably wouldn't be any more telling than the typical spring game. On the plus side, it could be used to generate more revenue.
