  1. Not an attack at all, but just curiosity, I thought the game was a complete game--what do you think made it almost a full game? I didn't want to concentrate on the negatives but since you asked; We were fairly ineffective offensively the first half (big surprise). The short TD drive (setup by the pick) was about the only exception. Beck still has TM attempt throws he is not cutout for and it boggles my mind. We saw in the 2nd half the types of passes he can make so why the ill advised attempts in the 1st half? Our run defense was questionable the first quarter. We gave up big chunks of ground leading up to that interception. We also failed to make about 2-3 other picks that were gimmes. Stafford hangs onto that one and it is a shutout-dropping it directly lead to MSU's FG. And this is really nitpicking but I still felt our front 4 provided little quick pressure. Most of our QB pressure was coverage induced. I don't want to get attacked for this as I am very happy with the overall effort and result. I thought we showed mountains of improvement in many areas; pass coverage, O line, the "ameoba" defense as some are calling it, and the offensive adjustments we made. My point was, if we play error free and up to our capabilities 4 full quarters both sides then anyone we face is in real trouble.
  2. The offensive "style" of play has a lot less to do with it than the effectiveness of the team running it or defending against it. It still comes down to who plans the best and then goes out and executes the plan, making adjustments as required. Style means squat.
  3. We might need to start embracing those 11cst start times. If it had anything to do with how my Huskers performed and how the visitors played, I'm all for many more early games.
  4. Personally I never felt we were in proper position to take Taylor out. Last few snaps possibly but at that point it is too late to put in a cold guy. I'm not buying the what if he gets hurt deal either. What if Carnes goes in and gets hurt? Then we don't have a backup for Taylor. Injury is not very likely on those types of snaps. If this is all people can come up with to complain about then it was indeed a good day. And if I remember correctly Osborne hardly ever and maybe never pulled the starting qb at 21 pt differential.
  5. D backs played an excellent game O Line played very well and wore down a good defensive unit Rex is totally unbelievable and most certainly not human Carl/Bo put together a very good D gameplan Beck called a very good game and continuosly impresses me with his in game adjustments Taylor can throw certain passes in the right situations. Taylor cannot throw certain passes in the wrong situation. The equipment managers need to check on that back-ordered Stickum because apparently they were out of stock today. I can't believe the MSU team we faced today beat the Wisconsin team we faced a few weeks ago. Momentum and mojo are real factors, not to be over looked, in college football. As well as we played most of today, we still haven't played a full 4 quarters on both sides of the ball. When we do, look out. The CCG will be much different than our first meeting with the Badgers.
  6. Meyer provided some good insight and helped the broadcast even if his speech style is somewhat boring. Spielman wasn't the worst I've heard but it sure did seem he was hesitant to give the Huskers any credit. It appeared he would have been much happier if MSU had been dominating us. Still better than Mushburger or MIllen though. I can't talk about the 3rd d&^khead d-bag without being in the woodshed so I'll just say I didn't/don't like him very much.
  7. Relax, right now your the new transfer pretty girl where all the guys fake an accent to make a good impression, give it a few years, you will pick your enemies within the Big Ten and the Trash Talk will commence. However all Big Ten teams except the scum in Ann Arbor respect the others program......They all have positives in some way. There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other team's football fans and Michigan fans.
  8. Alfonzo Dennard and his cousin were tweeting back and fourth and somehow and turned into a debate about racism. Good Cliff's Notes (do the kids say Spark Notes now?) rundown. Let's not get any further into that topic, though, or I'm going to be posting a new thread called, "A topic about a topic getting moved got moved." And then someone will ask for another explanation, and the whole thing will start up again and I'll have to move that thread, and eventually it'll turn into some recursive feedback loop where the threads just become what they were before they were the thing they used to be, and a black hole will open up right on your screen. Nobody wants that to happen. Right? In the meantime.... Bluto: By golly I think you're onto something here. This topic is quite possibly the seemingly harmless butterfly flapping it's wings that starts us on the course to the impending 12-21-2012 apocolypse. Dang Twitter. I knew that new fangled social media stuff was going to be our demise.
  9. Over 1.5 takeaways- just cuz we'll need em O/U 2 good quarters played by the Huskers
  10. It basically is pointless but we've got to talk about something between actual, real life football games. If any of us had anything better to do, I doubt we'd be jabbering about anything on comment boards with people we really don't know. Now just imagine if you could actually field that all everything team- I know you've got the time...
  11. Actually I don't think that makes sense at all, at least for me. It's an all time college team and I think the whole thought process needs to be kept in the college realm. I like to view these things as if only their college careers and style of play matter. Maybe a little out of necessity since I'm a Husker fan. It's pretty rough to put a power I or option team into a pro setting. I don't consider what they did after they left college. If that was the case then I'd have Roger Craig instead of Mike Rozier, etc. And, Frazier, Crouch, Gill etc. didn't and wouldn't have had stellar pro careers but in a college game, in their type of offense, I prefer them easily over any pure passer you can name. Simply look at their won/loss records, the offense their teams were able to generate, and what they did for their teams and it gets real clear for me. Another example- Peyton Manning. 97 Orange Bowl we make him look an unskilled hack, heck Tenn had to bring in T Martin. But, in the pros it's another story. (Bonus points for using hack & heck back to back?)
  12. I like your OU team better than USC. Any of these teams are going to look mighty impressive. I realize it is all opinion and no way to prove any of it and it would be a real time waster to attempt to make a case for or against any team or player list. So, I'll still maintain that my NU team makes USC's look plain jane. This is quick off the top of my head, in no particular order. I didn't study stats or anything like that, did not count to a correct 2 deep, and I'm sure I'm missing people but I'd field this team in a heartbeat. O Line: Dave Rimington, Dean Steinkuhler, Zach Weigert, Will Shields, Aaron Taylor, Brendon Stai (and many more) Zatechka, Hochstein, Graham, Bonness.... QB: Tommie Frazier, Eric Crouch, Turner Gill RB: Lawrence Phillips, MIke Rozier, Ahman Green FB: Tom Rathman, Joel Mackovicka, Cody Schlessinger WR/WB: Irving Fryar, Johnny Rodgers, Frosty Anderson, Nate Swift, Maurice Purify TE: Johnny Mitchell, Junior Miller, Matt Herian D Line: Ndamakong Suh, Grant Wistrom, Rich Glover, Jason Peter, Larry Jacobson, Willie Harper, Neil Smith, Adam Carriker LB: Tev Alberts, Marc Munford, Terrell Farley, Steve Damkroger DB: Mike Brown, Mike Minter, Michael Booker, Ralph Brown, Barron Miles, Prince Amukamara Kickers: Alex Henery, Kris Brown, Jesse Kosch, Mike Stigge PR: Johnny the Jet KR: Tyrone Hughes Coach: Osborne OC: don't need one DC: Bo Pelini (edit: also include Charlie Mcbride & Monte Kiffin) AD: Bob Devaney Announcer: Lyle Bremser In their college prime, with team chemistry, no personal/crime problems (in defense of Phillips), etc. And like I said previously, the only place I feel weak at all may be WR & LB. You will not ever come up with better combined O line or D lines and that is where it all starts. I would challenge anyone to field a team, any team, any combination, that can beat that.
  13. That looks pretty good but I think the Huskers field a better looking bunch at every position except WR and possibly LB. Add in kickers and return specialists and actually I think we make USC look pretty plain jane. We don't even need WR's. I'd settle for a couple TE's. With our O line, backs, option qb's, and defense, game prob wouldn't even be close.
  14. I seriously doubt an 11-2 NU or MSU get a bcs bowl. Frankly I don't want one if we're 11-2. Anybody remember the time we got into that bowl against Miami that we shouldn't have been in? Yeah, that was fun. Only possible way, as stated above, might be a matchup with Oklahoma and only because our fans travel so well. It would be for monetary reasons and not because we we're the most worthy. If were in a bcs bowl, it better because we won the B1G and avenged our only loss against wiscy.
  15. Serious question; has a Dantonio led MSU ever played a game west of the Mississippi? I mean in conference there is only who, Iowa and maybe Minn? I guess I need to study up but I find it hard to believe they haven't beaten Iowa away and minnesota must be on the east side of the river cuz they couldn't beat anyone. Or is this Dantonio's first or second year? Dantonio is in his fifth full year, he has played at Minnesota once (lost 2009) and at Iowa twice (lost 2007 and 2010) and no they don't play west of the Mississippi often. Those facts alone greatly increase my level of optimism for this Saturday. I realize idiots out wondering around has been somewhat decent the last few years but a loss at Minnesota in the last 5 years? WTF? Thought something like that would take the concerted effort of the likes of Callahan and Watson. Throw in the primary green thing and just went from thinking we might possibly lose to no way in hell we can lose.

  17. I agree. I hate pinning my hopes for winning a game on the possible self destruction of the other team. I would feel much better about this game if I had more confidence in the Huskers (particularly the D) and was less dependent on the other team making mistakes or coming in flat. As you say, punching them in the mouth rather than simply being able to not get punched ourselves. Baby steps I guess. However, I am not one to put any stock in our Minnesota game. 41-14 might look sufficient on paper but the only thing that impressed me at all was the 34-0 halftime score. If our 2nd and 3rd teamers can't expand on that lead against Minnie, well I guess we know why our starting 11 are who they are. I have been spoiled growing up on the 70's, 80's, & 90's Huskers. A 44-14 thrashing against Minn almost feels like a loss to me. I know that is jacked up but I can't help it. We have to start controlling and dominating games rather than simply surviving them. If it helps, I am getting more confident in our chances against MSU. I started the week feeling like we'd get beat by 2-3 touchdowns and am now up to about a push. By Saturday I should be fully partaking of the Kool-Aid. We CAN do it, I'm just not convinced we WILL. The point of this was not that we need them to have a let down. It was just to show that they appear to not play as well on the road. This is a fact. I feel this game is very similar to Mizzu coming to town last year. Will the outcome be the same? I let you know Sat afternoon but until then I'm just saying there are reasons to be positive about this showdown. Earlier people were just sure Wiscy wouldn't lose a game, well guess what? They've lost one and I think will lose again before the B10 season is over. MSU is no different. If Notre Dame can beat them at home then you better damn well think the Huskers can do the same. As far as lowered expectations, I disagree. If you were ignorant enough to think we'd waltz into a new conference, play a new team every week and go undefeated then you are a fool. I'd say sitting at 6-1 with a home game to get a huge inside track at winning the division is a pretty good place to be. This team has show signs of growth, and a desire to win in the most dire of situations. Mark my words, the fate of all B10 teams this year is far from determined. You should know this if you've watched college football for more than one season. I never thought we'd waltz into the B1G in 2011 and claim a title the first year. However, I have this problem of expecting greatness out of the Huskers. I went to UNL 81-85 (the scoring explosion/triplets time frame), I remember the game of the century against Oklahoma, and attended my first Orange Bowl in 1997. Needless to say I was not a happy Nebraska camper from the time Solich got fired until the day they hired Pelini. The return to dominance that I long for will probably never happen but don't call me an idiot because I'm not satisfied with slow improvement. 14 to 41 years ago had we waltzed into the Big 10, we would have expected, and rightly so, to win it first year and most every year thereafter. It bothers me that I have to worry about winning a game against MSU at home. In a way I am envious of the younger people on here who can take pride in anything that has happened for the Huskers in the 2000's. I realize I am somewhat living in the past and unfortunately I have expectations based on greater things than most on here have ever experienced first hand. I don't like parity. I don't like finishing second. I don't accept 3 loss seasons and am not very fond of 2 loss seasons. I long for the days when we'd take what we wanted and weren't concerned in the least where the game was played or how the other team might perform. I know what I want is probably unrealistic but hopefully you can understand the perspective from which I look at these things and that my heart is in the right place.
