  1. Yes, I feel better about the future defense now. GBR
  2. Yeah, because all optional workouts in the NFL are, you know like, optional (wink wink)
  3. If he doesn't fit into Frost's scheme, why did Frost recruit him?
  4. Haven't heard that line in years. It was quite popular in my "youth".
  5. I heard AD BM on the radio Wednesday night where he actually mention this, IRCC he used the term "squad list", I would say "roster spot". I think Title IX is worded something like " athletic opportunities" so roster spots would count no matter whether financial aid is involved. I do recall that roster spots do not have to be equal but must match the male/female ratio in the general student population. Which actually is creating a problem because because more and more women are going to college and the ratio is constantly changing in favor of the women. I am going to actually count the number of people on the roster of the various teams and see what we have. For example there are more than 50 women listed on the track and field team. Personally, I think 45-50 walk-on's would be ideal. They would mainly be practice fodder, but it would allow the players on the three deep, the ones who would play on Saturday, to get live reps against people while running their offense/defense. During the fall your time is spent getting ready for your next opponent. Breaking down the numbers, 85 scholarships, four deep offense and defense. The 4's are the practice squad. They provide the opponent's plays and defensive looks for the 1's. Without more walk-on's the 3's have to play the opponent's for the 2's therefore the 3's get no reps of our plays and sets or if the switch roles they get half of the 2's reps. With 20 more walk-on's the 2's have their own practice squad and the 3's stand around therefore, 45-50 walk-on's would be ideal. When I say live reps I don't mean "tackle to the ground" just cases where you need opponents that run and react to what you are doing. Husker56 beat me to the post. Some good info there.
  6. Within your parameters, none. I can come up with only four P5 head coaches that have been fired from a previous P5 job and eventually got another P5 head coaching gig. Leach, Petrino, Rich Rod, Weis ...there has to be a few more. If anyone knows for sure post it up. My only rule is they have to fired from a P5 head coaching job and then land another.
  7. Maybe...Maybe Not Akron - Current MAC Division Champ. Finished ahead of N. Illinois Colorado - 2016 P-12 Division Champ. Slumped this year to 5-7. Do they rebound or stay down? Troy - Current Sun Belt Champ. @Michigan - 2016 team had like 11 guys drafted. "Reloading" didn't go as smoothly as the media predicted. Lot of guys back for next year. Purdue - New coach got them bowl eligible this year. Trending up. @Wisconsin - Is Wisconsin @Northwestern - Good this year has trouble being good two years in a row. Minnesota - Beat us like a drum this year. Will PJ improve the team next year or is he a "smoke and mirrors" coach? @Ohio State - Their freshman, second or third team QB lead them to a victory over Michigan yesterday. I think they will have plenty of talent next year. Illinois - They just aren't very good. Michigan State - could be scary good next year. @Iowa - ??? We should do better, but haven't.
  8. This is like beating that dead horse, but I will finish it up. After Saturday's games there are 80 bowl eligible teams, 78 slots, with a handful of regular season games yet to be played. Mainly in the Sun Belt Conference and Florida St, currently 5-6, has a Sun Belt team scheduled for a makeup game. There will be some bowl eligible teams staying home.
  9. After Thursday night there are 71 bowl eligible teams and 20 teams sitting on five wins, with a couple of teams whose season is over. After looking at this weeks opponents for those twenty teams my gut feeling is that eight probably are going to win. Thus there will be more bowl eligible teams than bowl slots (78) and any five win team is out of luck. After Friday's games there are now 74. And as an example why I don't bet on football, none of the last four qualifiers were my pick to win.
  10. Not all of the $2.3 Billion is Athletic Department money. Annual "profit" is handed to the foundation to manage. I would except the Foundation to collect an annual management fee. The report said the growth of the main endowment was 12.7% over the last reporting period. (My portfolio should do so well.) Even minus the management fee I would think the athletic department money would grow. It would be available for sudden and big expenses. Like when a chunk of concrete fell off the stadium. No bonds required, no begging the legislature, just get it done.
  11. For reference... 78 bowl slots 39 teams currently bowl eligible 25 teams with five wins, with generally four more games to play 19 teams with four wins. How is our APR?
  12. Maybe it's just me, but I think the 15 bowl practices, even with a lame-duck staff, would be better for next years team than heading home after the semester and sitting on the couch.
  13. Since we, Nebraska, may be hoping our APR is high enough I thought I would track the number of bowl-eligible teams available for the 39 bowls. After six weeks there are 7. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Penn State, San Diego State, Washington, & Washington State. Eleven teams have five wins and 28 have four.
  14. I no longer expect anything from Nebraska Football. I only have HOPE. Hope that they win two more games, maybe three. There are "only" thirty-nine bowl games which reduces our chances of getting in with a 5-7 record so I really really hope we can win three.
  15. When did Engelhaupt change positions? The one I'm thinking of is from Norfolk Catholic and was recruited as a tight end.
  16. He didn't use the grad transfer to come here. He, Lee, sat out last year.
  17. Actually, Miller left with 4:46 left in the third and Robinson left 3:51 left in the second.
  18. I feel if Michigan and Texas were in the BIG they would have to hold the conference meetings in a hangar at O'Hare. There is not a big enough room in all of Chicago to hold the egos of both schools at the the same time.
  19. A look at what the top teams in the conference are facing in the last two weeks Minnesota has two rescheduled games with Rutgers added to their schedule. A double header on Wednesday followed by a 3 game series on Thurs, Fri, Sat. Five games in four days. If the Huskers win out they are the only team that can surpass them but they need a five game sweep. Currently, 1. Nebraska, 12-5-1, 0.694, Conference Games left, 6. Michigan St (8th-tie) Penn St (13th) ........Best possible percentage, 77.08...with one loss, 72.9...with two losses, 68.75 2. Maryland, 14-7, 0.667, Conference Games left, 3. Northwestern (8th-tie) ........Best possible percentage, 70.8...with one loss, 66.67...with two losses, 62.5 3. Minnesota, 12-6, 0.667, Conference Games left 3. Purdue (7th) ........Best possible percentage, 71.4...with one loss, 66.67...with two losses, 61.9 4. Michigan, 11.7, 0.611, Conference Games left, 6. Purdue (7th) Michigan St. (8th-tie_ ........Best possible percentage, 70.8...with one loss, 66.67...with two losses, 62.5 5. Iowa, 11.7, 0.611, Conference Games left, 6. Ohio St. (11th) Illinois (10th) ........Best possible percentage, 70.8...with one loss, 66.67...with two losses, 62.5 6. Indiana, 10-7-1, 0.583, Conference Games left, 6. Penn St. (13th) Ohio St. (11th) ........Best possible percentage, 68.75...with one loss, 64.6...with two losses, 60.4 Michigan St and Northwestern would have to win all their remaining games and Maryland lose all their remaining games and it they would tie. Since both are fighting for the last conference tournament spot they should give their best effort but they play some good teams.
  20. I've been retired for 11 years. I no longer have a meaningful life!
  21. Worst Case Scenario Usually ESPN does one of these closer to when the season starts. I thought I would do one now. Nebraska defeats Arkansas St in its opener but not by on overwhelming margin. Internet coaches spin problems with new personnel, new defense, new coaches, etc. People pointing out that it was Arkansas St are attacked as Debbie Downers and not being true fans. Nebraska loses to Oregon. Late in the second quarter QB TL wobbles like a weeble toward the sideline when the pass pro breaks down and tears both hamstrings. QB POB replaces TL but is largely ineffective. Internet coaches spin his lack of performance to a lack of reps in practice the week before. Overheard in the locker room is “Geez, I thought you had to run fast to tear a hammy”. Monday it is announced Lee is out at least six weeks and QB POB is the starter. Internet Coaches say “It’s about time. He should have been the starter all along.” Nebraska wins the next three games but it is clear to even the internet coaches that performance level is dwindling. The win over hapless Illinois only happens because of a late fourth quarter punt return for a TD. The internet coaches laud the new way of handling special teams. Saying they are certain the new coaches will spark a turn around. On Monday before the Wisconsin it is announced the QB TG will start. Internet coaches celebrate. Saying the bold move will certainly pay off with new enthusiasm and commitment to excellence and he should have been starting since day one. On Friday a raging blizzard rolls into Lincoln, dropping an inch of snow per hour. A foot of snow is on the ground by midnight. It continues to snow. The kickoff is delayed an hour to complete clearing the field. Official timeouts are take once a quarter to allow equipment to clear enough of the field to see the sidelines. Only about 10,000 fans make it to game because of travel conditions including 5,000 drunken students who show up in the middle of the first quarter even with the game starting an hour late. Heard from a Badger player getting off the bus at the stadium, “Uff dah, this is Big Ten weather.” Wisconsin controls the clock, runs 75 plays, 74 runs and one pass, (on the last play of the first half), never punts, and wins 12-0. Nebraska never punts either but each of its five possessions end with a turnover, two fumbles, two interceptions, and a safety. After two running attempts into the middle of the Badger’s defense, OCDL declares the running game not working and goes to the Ultimate Frisbee mode. When the airport reopens on Monday afternoon the Calibraska portion of the Nebraska roster is on a plane headed for sunny SoCal. Internet coaches denounce them as traitors and flood their twitter and facebook accounts On Tuesday it is leaked the through a computer glitch, 250 tickets returned by Wisconsin were never offered for sale and the sellout streak is over. Huskerboard melts down, servers overload, and the internet crashes. Its three days before the board is able to function again. Losses to Northwestern, Ohio St, Penn St, and Iowa follow. At the end of the year HCMR fires two offensive assistants. The internet coaches say it’s about time HCMR got rid of the dead weight and cheer the new hires. Certain the new energy, enthusiasm, recruiting skills will be just what the team needs to have a break out year in 2018.
  22. Sam McK...Spin spin spin. Michigan sends 14 yet they finished third in the East and probably third overall. Penn St sends 2 and are the conference champs. It is where, what class, your talent lies.
  23. Using the NFL's ratings from NFL.com, Gerry has 11 safeties rated above him and is tied with 3 others. Carter is among 5 of 19 tight ends that are not rated. I wish them well.
