  1. Prospects for the current class are looking pretty bleak. We likely need at least 8 more bodies to fill the class, and we are in (really in, not just an offer with low interest) on very few high ranked players. We are currently ranked #31 on 247. Not sure where you are getting that. Here are the players I think we are still in on pretty well. Farniok 4*[/size] Reese 3* (admittedly, I am concerned about his recent trip to Texas) Fitzpatrick 4* L. Jackson 4* Watts 3* Poljan 3* I. Simmons 4* M. Simmons 3* Those 8 have an average star ranking of 3.5. If we could get these, that would put our average star ranking at 3.3. That's a better pace than our last staff was in their second season. And, we are in on a lot of really good talent right now for the 2017 class. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas! So you are wrong and you reply with a stupid comment. Shocking Dude, you listed the highest rated recruits that show any interest in Nebraska whatsoever and then said "If we sign them ALL . . .". If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. I didn't list any recruits, that was BRB. He listed them because we actually do have a real shot at getting them. We are either the team to beat or are top 2-3 for them. Farniok - in the leadReese - We are one of 4 teams listed with equal interest. And our OV was first, with the three others coming more recently. Fitzpatrick - We are one of 8 teams listed with equal interest. And he's taking an OV to Louisville Jan 29. Jackson - We are one of 12 teams listed with medium interest. Watts - One of 5 schools listed with high interest Poljan - One of about 30 schools listed with medium interest, but only 7 have offered. I. Simmons - One of 5 schools listed with high interest. M. Simmons - One of 6 schools listed with high interest. So what do you think the odds are of Riley signing all of them? I will absolutely say we will not get all of these but, I think we have a good shot at getting many of them. I never said we would. I said if we "could" get them. Big difference. You, on the other hand, stated that we are in on very few highly rated players. I listed the ones we have a chance at getting. It's clear why you didn't like my list since it didn't follow your agenda. Are 3*s considered highly ranked players now? They are highly ranked by any means, but they also help a program. You'll find some three stars under rated, who can play. Other three stars make for good practices because they have more talent than walk-ons, generally. Hot beds of recruiting, have players given higher ratings than they should receive sometimes. A team is built on more than4/5 star recruits, believe it or not. Walk on tradition under Osborne?
  2. Taylor Martinez says Hello.... I was going to post the same videos from the run. Martinez played with heart, and played hurt for us. Remember that freshmen year, when he was unknown, uninjured, fun to watch. Watching him pass, not as much fun. But, when he was busting huge runs, he was able to throw up prayers and let receivers make plays.
  3. There are plenty of professions paid a salary and are not compensated "minimum wage." Do retail workers working on commission make minimum wage if they don't make sales? Do you tip them for helping you if you don't buy anything? Many teachers work more hours than their salary pays for. High school coaches make less than minimum wages when you figure out their pay divided by hours. If you own your own small business and aren't selling product, are you making more than minimum wage? With that being said, I always leave a tip (unless terrible service, one time I waited over an hour at a restaraunt when it wasn't busy and the waitress forgot to give the cooks the order). I think what was said really depends whether or not a tip should have been left. We also don't know how the service was. If it was excellent service, I'd leave a small tip unless what was said was extremely rude. Though, posting it online was in poor taste.
  4. I think we will have a better record next year, as coaches and athletes adjust. You can't tell me the athletes bought in right away knowing his career record. I saw our defense improve throughout the year, not sure if any of you also did. I was shocked by the hire, and disappointed by this season. We lost games we shouldn't have, no arguments here. I agree, he should have brought in another assistants, but it is also easier for the head coach to bring those that know his philosophy right away. Hopefully, HCMR will make some changes now that some of that adjustment period is over and have better coaches. I expected a 9 or 8 win season, and was obviously disappointed. If we lose a few coaches and hire some great assistants, next year can be better. I'm not convinced HCMR will get us to a national championship or BigTen ship, but I have faith he can lay the building foundation for the next coach to come into a program supporting the new coach, which he did not have after Bo left. Bo divided the program when he left, and that makes it more difficult for the next coach. Is HCMR the right guy? I don't know, but I hope he can be.
  5. And, how would you really manage that rule? Are you going to check every social media outlet and search each and every player? Students know how to make their profiles private, make fake names. Etc. While I agree it would be beneficial, it's also not realistic to be able to enforce. There's tons of good that can come from it. Exactly what good, ever, has come from big time college football players commenting on Twitter or Facebook or any social media? And I do mean "good", as in better than not having social media to use. I can think of numerous cases where a player would have been much better served by not using social media, but I cannot for the life of me come up with one case where it was a "good" thing. Even if there are a few cases of it actually being a good thing, the bad has to so far outweigh it that it would be silly. If I was a coach at a big time program, I would have to give serious consideration to banning it's use for my players.
  6. That's not being grammar police. It's you not communicating clearly and expecting others to just know what you meant.
  7. Wow, they really don't understand his job. His main focus is academics, and expanding the campus and academic selection offered, as well as improving the education students are receiving.
  8. 1- wrong, obviously 2-wrong, what are you talking about? You can build a new house, or buy plenty in tow or out of town for less than a million.
  9. David Cutcliffe, Duke. Not young and upcoming, but a good coach, and could turn the program around. Frost as his OC? Groom Frost to take over after him.
  10. He certainly seems like a nice guy. Yes, we are all disappointed with the record thus far, but I'm not convinced firing him is the right choice right now. We've had a lot of bad luck and close games. Is it all on coaching? Some of it? I'm not sure, I'd argue some of it is coaching, but certainly not all of it. DPE missing a lot of the season? Other injuries? Can't blame those on coaching. Poor game management and poor play calls, those are on the coach. With that being said, it is still hard to effectively evaluate him as a coach in Nebraska. Yes, he has done worse than Bo did so far. However, Bo left us with a lot of weak positions in recruiting. I do think Banker's job should be under fire though, the defense has not looked good against the pass. Can Mike cut one of his friends and find us a better defensive coordinator? Thats somethings we need changed, the defensive scheme hasn't worked against the pass. Rush defense looks good? Yes, but why run if you can throw all over the defense? With a better defensive scheme, we have a much better record than we are seeing right now. Offense has had iffy play calls, but we have also shown some good signs. Running game is obviously worse without Ameer and Kenny Bell being gone doesn't help. Kenny was a play maker last year and his presence is missed. HCMR has a good opportunity at Nebraska to hire a better defensive coordinator than he had at OS. Before firing HCMR, let's see what he chooses to do with his staff. If he isn't willing to let go one of his friends, as we've seen before with coaches here, then I think firing him comes into the question.
  11. Hey man, I don't need to be reminded about the defense. Below the belt :(It's true that the defense folded, especially in the 2nd half. But chew on this -- Purdue had the following four touchdown drives:16 yards22 yards19 yards6 yardsMaybe a full strength Husker team, or a Husker team with more reserves and familiarity with schemes, etc, can fight back from that. Or not even find themselves in that position. Not in this universe, though. Fire everyone. Yes, this was a bad loss, and under Bo, I think we would have won. Was MR the right choice? I'm not sure, but we do know he is taking a team with a barely filled cupboard, and Ryker had quite a few turnovers, not all were his fault.
  12. Agreed. Martinez took/takes a ton of flack, but he played hurt and still has records here. Wish we could have seen him as a healthy senior.
  13. Why bring Miller into the conversation? OSU proved they had three talented QBs last season, that can win. Plus, they have a ton of talent around them, which helped. Armstrong does well when we have a balanced attack. If we try to pass it over 70% of the time, he will struggle. Closer to 50/50, his percent of completion will rise. Healthy Martinez who would have stayed healthy (all four years and developed vs playing hurt) vs. healthy Miller? I'll take Martinez over him as qb. Braxton was good at qb, but nothing phenomenonal, which is why he was moved, Taylor stayed at qb, while hurt, because we were lacking in subs.
  14. I'll be watching the game. I try to watch every Husker game, but sometimes it doesn't happen and I follow it on the ESPN app. That's how I follow most Duke games.
  15. Which player(s) do you think have made the biggest impacts for Nebraska? (Positive impacts or negative)
  16. Iowa won't be undefeated when we play each other. Soft schedule, not a great team. Don't skin the cat and call it a deer.
  17. Nebraska is stil a known program. Not as relevant as it once was, but still known by students. We beat Nebraska last year still makes a bigger impact on recruits than most teams in the country. As a recruit, would you be more impressed to hear we beat Duke, or we beat Nebraska? Duke is 5-1, lost to Northwestern (with a lead at half) and beat GT who was ranked when they played?
  18. In leagues under 15 games, records matter, but don't show as much, if that makes sense.
  19. Records show who a team really is, in teams with schedules over 40 games (just a random estimate). NBA and MLB, your record shows how your team really is. If you are a sub .500 team in those leagues, don't blame luck. You're just not that good.
  20. I agree, I liked the mix of run and pass this week. Didn't watch the full Wisconsin game, only a quarter, but the pass happy Illinois game was frustrating to watch.
  21. One game at a time, focus on this week's opponent. If we look ahead and focus on MSU we will be beaten next week.
  22. It is possible, but these questions have no definitive answer. Blaming the younger generation from saying the game has changed and pinning it on them is foolish. Plenty of colleagues my age (who remember most of his career) have similar views (as of which you blame the younger generation.) I think he would do well, and probably keep the tradition. He'd also be a very old coach, and may have difficulty recruiting without the right staff under him. As a legendary coach, I do think he'd be able to draw in energetic, young, good recruiting coaches and teach them his philosophy. If he was still coaching, Frost would be on our staff.
  23. We played pretty well this week, hopefully it continues. I was the most impressed by how the players played and coaches coached in the fourth. Hope we can keep this momentum rolling!
