The anticipation is killing me

Illinois beat Purdue 24-6. We have no excuse to lose to Purdue except complete incompetence. Today will show us our trajectory.

Can’t wait for this game to start...

I don’t doubt that one second regardless of what you think. I can say the exact thing about our unspecial teams coach. We have not had good special teams for a while now.

Purdue is down to Illinois 0-24. If we can beat Indiana, I am confident we can get two more wins, one against Purdue and one against Maryland. Everything is possible in the BIG nowadays. I am hoping that after getting their asses whopped by an inferior team, this team will come out angry and hungry for a must win. If they come out flat, that is a sign that the coaches have lo control of the team.

In these numbers lies the painful realization that even though we have more 4 and 5 star players on the team, the coaching staff has not been able to get the best out of them whereas Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota seem to be able to get much more from their players. I like Frost and have no doubt he is the best fit for us right now but it is obvious that his supporting cast of coaches are not doing a good job. He needs to evaluate his coaching staff and ask them why they are not able to compete with teams that have much lesser talent. For starters, Verduzco sounds arrogant and incompetent from his comments. I feel that Martinez regressing is a direct consequence of Verduzco coaching him.

I agree with some on this board that stated that this game is a very important game for us. It is a litmus test of our ability to rebound and right the ship when we have been kicked in the balls. If we lose this game in a similar fashion to our loss to the gophers, it will have huge ramifications in terms of recruiting and our chances to get to the toilet bowl. All the pressure is on us. Indiana will not have any pressure as going 5-3 does not ruin their chances at going bowling. They still have several possible wins ahead of them. For us, this game is more important than a bowl game. With all the issues surrounding this football program, we need a win to help us make sense of things again.

Now I know that Verduzco is not a good coach. I completely disagree with him and I have a feeling that Martinez will come back stronger now that he sat and watched the game from the sideline. My worries though are related to the OL which seems to be regressing rather than improving. Fingers crossed that the team realizes the importance of this game and they come out and play their hearts out.

Our best chance of getting to six wins would be beating Indiana this week and beating either Purdue or Maryland which is easier said than done with this team being the way it is. I have absolutely no grand illusions that we can beat Wisconsin or Iowa regardless of where we play them. This team is not mature yet. All we can hope is 2 more wins and a decent showing at the toilet bowl. Then one more year of endlessly waiting and hoping that the hype would be real and that we will get back to being competitive. That has been our motto since 2003. At least with Frost at the helm we can hope that he can right the ship. With Riley there was no hope but despair and darkness.

I have to admit that I was one of those who thought that Frost coming back to Nebraska will yield dividend really fast. I bought the hype and thought we would be much better this year. Unfortunately, I was way off and it seems like Frost and his coaches have severely underestimated the situation. Frankly, they seem surprised and shocked at the performance of their team but aren’t they responsible for the product they put on the field? I can give many examples of teams that turned the corner with new coaches very fast. We just have to accept that we are not going to be one of those teams. For us to become relevant again, we need an identity and as of now this team has zero identity. Every game is a crapshoot and we have absolutely no way of anticipating the outcome. Even though Purdue is a 2-4 team, I feel they are better than us. Indiana is a 5-2 team and even though we should be able to beat them at home, no one can guarantee a win because we have no idea which husker team is going to show up and unfortunately neither do the coaches. If we get to six wins this season, I would consider this a step in the right direction.

Acceptance that we suck and we are years away from making a comeback.

If Illinois can beat Wisconsin, we might have a very slim chance. Iowa might be boring but when they play us, they come ready to play which is much more than I can say for this team. I heard Frost’s comments. There is absolutely no excuse for getting beat by Minnesota by that much. Although this team has the potential to be really good, they just choose to suck when it matters most. To be honest, if we can get to 6 wins, that would be great. I am not expecting more because I will get disappointed as usual.

Ending the sellout streak will not accomplish anything. Plus, the sellout streak is our way of showing this team and these coaches that even though they continue to disappoint us, we, as fans, will always be there supporting them and hoping that one day this team starts to play with some Husker pride. The sellout streak is the only positive thing we have in this program right now and it is why players want to come here. We can only hope that the coaches realize what they have in Nebraska and actually start earning their fat pay checks because the product they put out on the field leaves very little to be desired.

Does anyone on this board actually believe that our special teams have had any progress over the past seven years? We blocked one punt in forever, and we continually make the wrong decisions on whether to return the punt or just let it drop. It is all about simple fundamentals and this team is not doing any of the things that they are supposed to do to win football games. So, is that coaching or the players? We pay coaches to coach, so I think that is on them.

Yes, I work out every day...when you are a football player who plays for a team rich with glory and success, you need to work out and get stronger without having to be during official NCAA practice time. I doubt the Minnesota players had more practice than our OL line yet our OL line was pushed around all night. I saw those guys dropping like flies leaving the QB to fend for himself. Now, do you work out?

Every day we learn more about some of the horrible decisions that this program has taken, like for example not recruiting Joe Burrow who had strong ties to Nebraska and wanted to come yet we did not even talk to him. Look at what he is doing now at LSU. Don’t get me wrong, I still do not think that we have a QB issue but one can only wonder how many good players With strong Nebraska ties we did not recruit that would have played thief hearts off for this team. We have been hearing about all these four star recruits yet we have still to see that talent materialize on the field. May be just Wan’Dale Robinson but that is not enough. As for coaches that need to go (1) our unspecial teams coach. He should be cut loose immediately (2) our offensive line coach..he has done a horrid job thus far (3) our strength and conditioning is nonexistent, so that coach needs to go (4) I do not think that Chin is right for us but at least this team has shown some flashes of good play in some quarters. He just lacks consistency Frost needs to make some tough decisions soon, especially if we get whopped again.

No one on this board is calling for Frost’s head...No one...however, Frost must soon realize that he and his team of coaches do not have the full respect of this team because instead of coaching these players and exercising some tough love...they choose to pamper them and let them feel like there are no consequences for their stupid actions. Why else would Khalil Davis continue to commit stupid undisciplined unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Our OL is overwhelmed against any team with a pulse. So, two years in, what exactly have these coaches who are being paid VERY GENEROUSLY accomplished...we are still getting blown out by supposedly inferior teams.

Let us face the facts, no one on here expected this team to win a national championship or even a conference championship in Frost’s second year. If you were actually expecting that then you were probably drunk on koolaid. What we did expect though is for the embarrassments and blow outs to stop happening. We expected to compete in every game and lose respectfully. That has not happened. One can argue that the progress everyone thinks is happening is a false progress. Think about, Martinez is not playing as good as last year, we continue to play stupid undisciplined football, our special teams are anything BUT SPECIAL, and our defense has more holes than Swiss cheese. So, can you honestly tell me that we are better than last year. I feel that we played harder and competed much better last year even in our losses. This team never believed that they can beat Minnie from the moment they left Lincoln, and that showed on the field. This team has no confidence or identity. It is sad but true. I am really hoping that a miracle happens during the bye week and God instills a new attitude in this team.

I think it is time that FROST got a little nasty...first, he needs to ban Khalil Davis for one game as this is the second game in a row where he committed an unsportsmanlike penalty. If he bans him, that would send a strong message to all the other undisciplined players who think with their asses. He also needs to evaluate the players very carefully and play those players with fire in their bellies, the players who are proud to be playing for Nebraska. Right now, I can count the players who play hard on one hand. The rest have absolutely no pride or heart. Whether this is on the players or the coaches, I don’t care, but the coaches who are cashing their fat checks need to figure it out. If I performed this badly in my job, I would expect to be fired. I like Frost and want him to succeed in Nebraska but he consistently looks surprised by his teams poor performance. I refuse to believe that Fleck is a better coach than Frost but tonight was embarrassing for Frost. For a guy who hates losing, his team is really poopooing all over the field.

Please stop blaming Vedral or Bunch...we could have had Aaron Rodgers for a QB and he would not be able to get anything done with this horrible atrocious OL. They were pushed all night like little girls. Honestly, they should be ashamed of themselves. How can a QB scan the field when they are running for their lives all game long. Plus our defense looked completely lost and beat. We lost this game for many reasons but the QBs were not the reason. Frost and his coaches have a lot of work to do if we are to get to the toilet bowl.

Based on the way this team is performing, we are going to lose to Purdue, Iowa, and Wisconsin and we may have a chance to beat Indiana and Maryland. I believe we finish the season 6-6 and get invited to the toilet bowl. If by any chance we actually finish 7-5, I would be impressed. Unfortunately, Frost has lost this team. The fact that this team consistently underachieves and continues to play horrible undisciplined football is a sign that Frost and his coaches are clueless as to what is needed to fix this mess. Frost needs to assess his coaching staff and he needs to have the stones to fire some coaches and hire new ones. His play calling is also lacking and whatever he is calling might have worked at Oregon but it ain’t working in the BIG.

Forget this...life is too short.. I am out...this team is pathetic and Frost has disappointed...might as well go and start getting drunk....

I was not upset when we lost to Ohio state because I knew they had a much superior team but getting pounded by Minnie and getting run all over is something I can’t swallow. I wonder what s#!tty excuse will Frost give for this debacle...
