  1. but their averages go way up after they play Nebraska so it that really fair to say?
  2. would everyone rather be a team like Purdue who has to say "remember that one time we won the Rose Bowl"? Things don't look good now but it seems to me the underclassman on this team have that will to win. When they are the majority of the team things will go right.
  3. I learned Lovie Smith is still good at coaching to cause turnovers. He obviously wasn't the D coordinator while with the Chicago Bears but if you go back and watch those defenses they were always going after the ball. This works out pretty well in todays game when a big hit will almost automatically get you a penalty. Punch and rip at the ball. It works. I don't know if we don't have confidence in our safeties or our corners that lead us to play so far off the ball. If todays offenses are so based on timing I don't understand why you wouldn't do something to screw with that timing. You could at least show press to give the illusion of it but bail out. I'm also not a fan of our alignment. The still line up outside the rec when in man coverage. Line up inside and take away the easy throws and use the sideline as another defender. it's not that hard. If you are playing cover two yeah force everything inside to help your safeties out. Also learned Reimers isn't quite ready for full time action and showed it against IL. Honas had a good game. Jo Jo is still my favorite defender.
  4. at least he could assume he will get the ball. also assuming he is better than Austin Allen who had pretty much every reception, he should feel good about coming to Nebraska
  5. well it has been perverted over the years because shortly after the first blackshirts were handed out Nebraska started fielding some pretty good defenses. It probably meant more to be a starter on the defense from about 1966 -1998
  6. I more meant like statistically a top 10 defense. Not oh hey you guys had a great game against Rutgers here are some blackshirts. That way they should be more consistent and shouldn't have to worry about a huge let down. I do understand that it would mean there would be a few teams that would probably never get a blackshirt. Its a cool tradition within the program but, when I here analyst or whatever on TV poke fun at it because Nebraska hasn't fielded a defense anyone was afraid of in the last decade or so, it has become a gimmick. Are they even a top ten defense in the Big 10? I think even if they said "hey if you guys are a top 3 defense in the conference you'll get blackshirts". it gives them something concrete to shoot for.
  7. I think Frost should just do a complete reset. Nobody gets them until the defense is a top 10 defense (obviously wouldn't happen this year). Actually play like the blackshirts of old. That way it would actually mean something. Who cares about a black jersey when your defense has more holes in it than a spaghetti strainer.
  8. first he is switching sidelines and now he is changing how they hand out blackshirts! Fire frost
  9. not bad by Honas either. He recognized it pretty quick. Just didn't make the play. A year or two ago whoever would be there probably continues up field taking themselves out of the play.
  10. after watching this game it is clear to me that Ohio State has had the worst O-line of any team we have played this year.
  11. everyone knows turf toe can cause high snaps.
  12. I learned there is one play which shows why LMC should be the starter. It was the left hand throw to the RB resulting in a 1st down. AM takes a loss.
  13. I had it in college. It hurt but only after I was done with a play. Like I didn't notice it until I was standing still. Also hurt more in practice lol. I hope it doesn't linger too long for him.
  14. most teams run man defense the closer you get to the goal line. We need to be running more motion with crossing routes if they aren't going to power it in. Even tho its not spread out its easy for guys to get lost in traffic down there.
  15. I feel like they were pretty aggressive in the 1st two games in the last two years... then for some reason not so much the rest of the season
  16. I've been in that locker room and it sucks. it felt crammed with about 35 guys in there. I've been in nicer HS locker rooms.
  17. if you don't know where the ball is going then neither does the defense. love it
  18. i felt like 75% of the passes were intended for our TE's
  19. he had one target but the ball was batted down before it got to him
  20. I made the same comment the other day. It seemed to me that besides the one time he actually got targeted the play was moving away from him. Like he was lined up to the right and the play was rolling left.
  21. Reimer needs to be in on obvious passing downs. He has more speed than Honas and Miller and probably much better ball skills. there are plenty of snaps to go around for all 3 especially the way our offense plays.
  22. lol no I don't want to post any stats to back up my joke.
