Rivals says these are you new coaches...
Huskers93-97 replied to teachercd's topic in Husker Football
I actually think our recruiting the last 20 years has proven it’s actually pretty easy to recruit here. Classes that fall between 18-25 usually and we have not had a lot of success on the field. Imagine if we started winning like the old days. 9-10-11-12 a year. -
Which leads me to wonder if Frost has been giving 100% to the program or if he is half distracted by "other" things. Maybe it is just perception. But I don't see the same urgency and passion as when he was recruiting for Nebraska and coaching UCF for the bowl game. He seems sort of disinterested or worn down maybe. IDK.

I am not going to debate every scenario where Frost failed at his job. The fact is he is not doing a good job. When you are bad at your job you may get fired. If you are dumb enough to actually break the rules and get caught then you open yourself up to getting fired with cause. Not saying they will do that. But he was hired to win games and bring us back and if they have a case that he violated the conditions of the contract that he signed upon accepting the position then shame on him. PS you are not going to hear about that if it happens. For the good of the university and Frost it will be presented that they reached a mutual agreement on a reduced buyout for the good of the program. Like how "Moos Retired"

I am not sure about Pelini. I personally feel like contracts should have performance clauses in them. Such as get to a bowl by year 2 and so forth. If a guy is not doing his job why shouldnt he be able to be fired? If an employee is doing bad at his job he can be fired without paying them 5 years of salary. Frost is either #1 or #2 in worst win percentage in program history I believe. How is that not a fireable offense. Why does he "deserve" $20 million. None of us know if Frost and his staff are putting in the time of hours and effort to making us a winner. Maybe he is and maybe he isnt. But what if he isnt- do you still think he deserves $20 million?

We probably would have turned it down anyway. Didn't we still get offered a chance but we said not thanks cause the kids chose not to?

You do realize there is 14 teams in the big10. Only 3 teams recruit better than Nebraska. We out recruit everyone else. Typically we play 3 non-con games and 2 of them are powder puff teams. Explain to me how we don’t have better talent than 9-10 of our opponents? We play 12 games this year- Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio state out recruit us. 12-3=9. We don’t always play 2 of the 3 big10 East powers every year and normally don’t have our non con game as talented as Oklahoma. So I bet most years we outrecruit 10-11 of our opponents. Next year is 10

Dang pesky facts are hard to argue. Plus attrition is partly the fault of coaching staffs. Example, if we used wandale right he would still be here.
-
I don’t think the fact we have lost close games means we are getting better. We have lost close games for 4 years under Frost. It’s not like it’s something new this year. On paper we have better talent than 9-10 teams we play a year. We win 1/3 of those. So 2/3 of the time the opposing coach makes up for the talent deficit by out coaching Frost. The other 1/3 must be because the gap is so big the other coaches can’t make up talent gap.
-
I’m assuming those coaches walked into worse situations than Frost did too. Since we joined the big10 we have out recruited every team in our current Big10 west. Plus his first 3 classes were close to top 20 classes. Guessing Snyder walked into top 100 classes, Beamer idk but prob not much better. So I would expect longer leashes when the talent on the roster was really bad

Question to anyone who knows the history better 1. has a coach ever had 4 years this bad then turned things around? 2. has a coach who had a bad start to coaching in the P5 like frost has, who got fired. Ever gone on to become a successful head coach somewhere else that would make the first school regret firing him? Point is since frost is young in his career is there any example in history they turn into top tier coach?

Was Martinez playing hurt at Minnesota?
Huskers93-97 replied to VectorVictor's topic in Husker Football
At the end of this year we are likely 4-8 or 3-9. So in 4 seasons frost will have 15-16 wins. Riley got 19 in 3 years. What is so difficult to average more than 4 wins per year? -
If recruits are making decisions based on message board chatter they need a better support system around them. It boils down to winning games- you do that recruits come. You don’t they don’t come or they change their mind and decommit. It’s all an excuse. Frost recruits and is responsible for winning. Blaming a message board and blaming whatever other outside factor is what is old with our fan base. How bout some accountability. I have seen people on this board making excuses for Pelini, Riley and now frost. Earn the 5 million and everything else takes care of itself

My view on returning starters is simple. If you are a good team returning starters is a good thing. If you are a bad team- who cares if you have returning starters. They have already proven they don’t win games

I agree, this puts things in perspective. Things are worse than I thought seeing how he is basically doing worse than everyone in the country and he has better recruiting and resources than majority of those other coaches.

I feel like there is always something going on with Martinez to explain his poor play. Is it possible he is just not good enough. 4 losing seasons is hard to come up with enough excuses. Results are results -
So we have slipped into mediocrity. I would say we have fallen below mediocre
-
To be honest if that’s true then I am pretty concerned about the status of our program. Is the rest of the team that bad that we need Martinez to lose close games instead of getting blown out? How can you say we are on the doorstep to turning the corner as a team then also say we get blown out without Martinez? I don’t think one player should make that big of a difference if we truly are close as a TEAM. So if Martinez leaves after this year- your saying next year we fall off the map and are not good anymore? Again that’s a huge problem, it seems every team we play can go 2-3 deep on QB spot when they play us and execute just fine. So are we doing horrible job developing and recruiting?
-
Yes, I remember the fall of 2018 we thought we were turning the corner. Then 2019 and 2020 happened. And here we sit in 2021 thinking we are close

Wandale had a big half. 5 catches 125 yards and 2tds. Oh wait this thread is for current players

I won’t try watching the game but I am curious to see how he does in the season opener for his new team. I am sure he saw our pathetic week 1 performance and if he does well today and gets the kind of touches he wants it’s hard to argue with his decision. We seem like a sinking ship
