  2. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/team/nebraska-cornhuskers/bracketology Another site with some odds on making the tournament. If NU gets 22 wins, the chance of making it is 42.0%. If 23 wins, it goes up to 80.1%. 24 wins puts it up to 96.1%. This basically is what many on here have been saying. It obviously depends on who those wins are against, and it depends on other teams, but basically 3 more wins and Nebraska should feel pretty good, 4 more and I don't see how the committee keeps them out.
  3. Right. All Eichorst had to say after firing Pelini was "I didn't like him. He's too mean. I want a nice coach that listens to me." I fail to see how that would have received poor reactions.
  4. I agree somewhat. I think there should be just one spring game, but maybe they can have an open practice in Memorial stadium as well.
  5. Good grief. You've got to wonder where the breaking point is on salaries for coaches It also looks like the Patriots helped Schiano out with a little salary bump. Must be nice.
  6. A big part of the equation is how much the players buy in to Frost's system and philosophy. It's easy to say all the players should because he's a great coach and person - but they lost coaches that they had relationships with, and things are going to be a lot harder for some of them in the weight room and on the field. Some guys won't buy in, that's the way it goes. It's likely going to be much better than the Pelini to Riley transition where they went from a fiery coach with a high winning percentage to Mr. Rogers with a .500 career record. It didn't help that Pelini set fire to the place on the way out. That's something Riley did do very well - he left on decent terms.
  7. This team is clearly having fun this year. Yes, winning is part of it, but I think a lot more of it is team chemistry and overall culture.
  8. Maybe not, I guess that's just the natural tendency when a coach is falling short of expectations. My bad. As for me - I fully expect Frost to win at least as much as Pelini did. I just don't have win/loss expectations for year 1. Would 4-8 surprise me? No Would 8-4 surprise me? No
  9. I expected a transition time for Mike Riley, but he was taking over a 9 win team... Frost is taking over a 4 win team. I don't see any reason to put Frost on the hot seat in year 1... even if they go 4-8 again this year, would you really want to fire him and find someone else????
  10. Not necessarily. The NCAA isn't exactly known for their consistency.
  11. Not necessarily. What if you walked 1 mile in the wrong direction, then you're 1001 miles from your destination. Movement does not equate to progress.
  12. http://www.rpiforecast.com/wizard/Nebraska.html I found this link pretty interesting. You can look at current RPI and play around with "what-if" scenarios. For instance, if Nebraska wins their final 3 games, their RPI is predicted to be 46th. I then did the same thing but had the wins over Marist, Delaware State, and Stetson dropped because those teams all have an RPI over 300. Nebraska's RPI, with 3 less wins, would be 25th!
  13. It helps when you have 4 of the top 10 players in your state (Nolan Smith is from Savannah, GA but playing at IMG) I hope Pappoe doesn't want to follow the crowd - he could be a beast for this defense.
  14. Frost values quick decision making above almost everything else, so being a "pocket passer" does not automatically eliminate him. With this style of offense, a QB that runs a 4.5 does not have much advantage over a QB that runs a 4.8, especially if he can't make decisions quickly. Yes, he wouldn't exactly be a homerun threat, but that's not what he's being asked to do. A decisive 4.8 guy is better than an indecisive 4.5 guy. Gebbia has shown good work ethic, so I think he has a great chance. Also, there's obviously a reason that Andrew Bunch is a walk-on.
  15. From that video it sounds like one of his big jobs is staying a year or two ahead on recruits, which is extremely important with how the recruiting process has sped up. When the staff is trying to close out the 2019 class, he'd be looking at 2020, 2021, and even 2022 kids.
  16. Not from anyone who is a real fan and knows something about football.
  17. Likely true, but we've heard the same thing for every off season for a decade now. It's just now it's a lot more believable.
  18. I have no doubt Frost will lose players to transfers/academics as well, it's the nature of college sports these days. I just have a feeling (warranted or not) that Frost's family culture and expected winning culture, combined with their stated plan for recruiting players that are good fits on and off the field, will help them retain their recruits at a better rate than many programs.
  19. I understand the need for the position in today's college football. Now that the NCAA officially allows support staff to watch film and scout players, someone needs to oversee that and coordinate the efforts to find recruits that fit what the staff wants. If it's a similar role as Devaney had, then he'll also help with roster balancing as well as preparing recent Nebraska grads for the NFL combine/interviews, or even help them with other post-graduate opportunities. Just because it failed with the last staff doesn't make this a bad hire. All of the things I listed above are good things, if the right person is doing it the right way.
