  1. Well, QB position will be up for grabs next season. Not saying Watson will be ready, but it appears CT may not have the inside track, and Purdy’s opportunity may had passed. Maybe Torres? Henrick? Or possibly Watson.
  2. I was at a bar where it was hard to hear. Did someone noticed the names on the screen? Are those the coaches considering Nebraska or is it the other way around? I noticed that Deion was one of the names. What were the announcers saying?
  3. Mertz Obviously not one of the better QBs we faced. But the wind doesn’t help. N needs a three score lead to take Wiscy out of their grind it out game plan.
  4. What happened to the bonus 6 points ESPN gave us at the beginning of the game?
  5. As for CT and the OL, so much for taking them out for pizza.
  6. I think at the very least Kiffen would be the best recruiter. He perhaps could bring in a top-10 class here and there and maybe consistent top 15. The guy with Illinois is doing good right now. And he had success at Wisconsin. But didn’t he later coach at Arkansas and flopped? I also don’t see him being the elite recruiter as Kiffen. Is it true that Kiffen wanted the N job after Solich was fired? Maybe he wasn’t ready then, but perhaps he is now. Edit: Actually Bret had three seasons out of five where he won more than he lost and went to minor bowl games. But his last season he was 4 and 8. So I don’t see him any better than hiring Matt Campbell. I see Illinois being like Minnesota and not sustaining what they are succeeding right now. But who knows.
  7. Looking more and more that our HC will not be Mickey. Too bad, I was pulling for him.
  8. He’s so big he doesn’t look like he’s running very fast. Good touchdown.
  9. I think; I think. I can’t think. It hurts my head.
  10. I guess it comes down to will we be satisfied with 8-4 or 9-3 seasons or 10-2 or 11-1? A decent coach who teaches sound fundamentals could perhaps get us the former. But for the latter, we need a coach who not only can coach but can recruit consistently top 15 classes. Who could that be? We know there are several decent coaches in the Western Division. But these coaches can only go so far because they apparently are not great recruiters. We know Joseph “potentially” with some new hires could be that kind of recruiter. But let’s see how he does as far as coaching and wins this season. If he losses the next two, then this discussion becomes more mute. The only thing I can say I personally know is it’s extremely difficult to find a coach who is equally good at recruiting as he is with coaching. There aren’t many.
  11. Red Silk, I first want to see if Joseph can pull out three more wins, the minimum perhaps for him to maybe be retained by Trev. I think the odds are probably against him. But let’s also see who he can get commitments from as the season continues on. That can be telling. But you tell me, Red Silk. Who can Trev hire realistically that could bring top 15 recruiting classes every year? I just not seeing that with those two Kansas coaches, for example. Who would be an elite recruiter then? To me this is just a conversation, not an argument with you. I truly want to know who you think we can hire that is an elite recruiter.
  12. While I know coaching good fundamentals is very important, having a dynamic recruiter is critical — someone who is capable of having consistent top-15 classes. BC showed it can be done here, but he just wasn’t a good college coach. His last recruiting class had top 10 written all over it until his season fell apart. Joseph appears to be as strong as anybody else Nebraska has a realistic chance of getting — probably stronger. Sanders is less than a long shot, and he knows nothing about the Big 10. And of course the same can be said of the chances of Urban. But for the Huskers to be in contention to conference championships and beyond ever again, they will have to recruit up a storm. I am just not seeing that with both Kansas coaches, a Matt Campbell, etc. But Joseph could be that. Let’s hope he shows he can coach very sound fundamental football, because I just don’t see anyone else who we could get would be as aggressive recruiting. I expect if by chance he is retained — and I know the odds are against it right now — he would make the necessary staff changes, and the new assistants would all probably be strong recruiters. I especially believe that after hearing his interview with Cozgrove. Let’s hope for his success.
  13. I will sit back first and see how Mickey does and go from there. If he can come up with five or six wins, he may be worth retaining and then not go outside the program. Unfortunately I don’t like the odds of that happening. But I will stick to that for now.
  14. So he had a bad game against Tulane. But he and his offense had a big impact in beating OU. That is something he and the N team couldn’t do. He had a big win, Tulane or No Tulane. Considering what went on with Frosty’s teams, KSU obviously has a better coaching staff. If they win more than they lose and make a bowl game that will confirm it. And I suspect that will happen. I would say just be happy for the kid.
  15. It tells you he and his offense was poorly coached at N. He torched OU, and good for him. He is now showing what he can do with a better coached team. I’m very happy for the kid.
  16. I fear there will be more to come. This program is in such as mess. I hope Joseph and Busch can fix some of it, but it will be a long hard road ahead.
  17. Different sport I know, but likely this is not the last coach Trev fires. Fred might end up getting the ax, too. I just don’t see him turning it around.
  18. I agree totally. If Frost is fired, any coach Trev hires outside the program would be a gamble. Might as well hire Joseph, who wouldn’t be any more of a gamble. And seriously Zac Taylor would be out of reach.
  19. Problem is who could they hire. A “good” coach would probably not come here. If Frost is canned, there no more risk hiring Joseph than anyone they could get. Might as well consider him. The coach that a lot of fans wished he would be here just took his team to the Super Bowl and has Joe Burrow. I don’t see him coming where N would be a downgrade.
  20. He’s right that they are not physical. So, for crying out loud, how are they supposed to compete against any of the Big teams? And OU doesn’t look promising. Frost seemed like the perfect hire when he came to Lincoln. But he has been a total bust. New players; same story.
  21. I grew up with Bremser. We liked his enthusiasm and all that. But he had a tendency to be off a couple of yards of the yard line. Of course man, woman and child was a classic. Us Husker fans then also love to hate Bud Wilkenson (sp?). On the Saturday games that showed Nebraska with him in the booth, he seemed to be bias against the Huskers.
