  1. He was just leaning too far forward RJ is quite the blocker- relentless and aggressive, takes good angles to get on the block- lowers his hips well, good technique- lots of want to Better RB than I thought. Last year and even in spring, just didn't see him being able to break even the weakest of tackles. Tougher than I thought and with his speed and ability to catch, a different flavor than the others. Nice Surprise.
  2. Technically yes, the word option is in the play HOWEVER- MOST college teams run zone read VERY VERY few run triple- because it's a whole nother level of complexity and time commitment. AND NU has so many nuances to theirs so it cant be taken away by looking at a formation or tendency. It's obvious theyve invested a lot of time in it- it's not a "cheap" series to install the way NU is doing it- not even close.
  3. Zone read without the triple threat of the motion back are VERY different plays. MOST college teams run zone read- very very few run triple option. Last year we tried running the very same play with Wandale as the pitch man- it didnt work well at all. Poor inside threat, poor meshes and pitch relationships- motion wasnt tight. Yes weve run option with the triple threat since Illinois. BUT not with the counter steps, counter motion and without being in one set or to wide side of the field like early on in the season. Some of the footwork and motion- counter motions looked almost Navy like. With Yant as a legit inside threat- better oline play, it certainly opens up more possibilities. Cant wait to see more play action passes off that look. Michigan might.
  4. All fair catches- no run backs. One was a pretty tough catch- saved us about 20 yards of field position Martin
  5. I hear you. The problem is when you are a spread team with just one back in the backfield- it's hard to do. Johnson is a pretty good Receiver- so if he was the motion- pitch guy, that would be interesting. Yant being the middle run option.
  6. LOTS of our fans stayed. Even during other wins people would start drifting out at halftime, lots in the early- mid fourth quarter. LOTS in our area stuck it out to the very final gun. We will leave early often, but stayed to savor a dominant and well played game- like the days of old. Quarterback Adrian Martinez On the light show and the night game: “It was nothing short of amazing. I’ve had a few night games here in my career, I’ve played a lot of games, and that was a special environment right there. I remember telling someone on the sideline: He said, ‘why are there so many people here still?’ and I said ‘well, one, there’s a pride thing, there’s a lot of people still in the stands. Two, I know there’s going to be a great light show in the fourth quarter.’ It was awesome.” https://hailvarsity.com/football/nebraska-players-react-to-56-7-win-over-northwestern/?fbclid=IwAR0n-jpsyqFgCwTiDDvvFVJg-LzNGqPrbGlJ8ZDOOsrpqdEKs_sfKTOWjIk
  7. Watched Michigan back and forth with another game. Their defense is legit- they put a lot of pressure on the QB. They mix it up quite a bit. When they rush 4 they get plenty of pressure, then they get creative with 5 or 6, with safeties etc and really hurt you. Then they fake their pressure and seem to get very good pressure with just 4. Wish we had a good screen game to slow them down. Wisconsin did that some. Tall impressive Receiver to go along with a really strong ground game. CTB didnt play great last night- I fear this matchup. Their FG kicker is money. He looks like he can be consistent inside 55 yards. They will present a real challenge to our O-line. Hope we can continue to improve- reset the LOS on the defenses side and give Martinez time to throw.
  8. This team has the potential to be very good when it stays out of its own way When on offense the line of scrimmage was reestablished on the Northwestern side of the ball. LARGE holes for the backs to run through. HCSF worked with the line on 2 very simple things- pad level and aggression and it worked really well. Hats off to him and them. Very Solid play everywhere else. Martinez is improving, yipped 2 deep open throws- he had time. Loved no turnovers- only a handful of penalties. The guy in charge of fan experience did a great job- that end of 3rd quarter thing was fun. GREAT game for our recruits to see. Cherry on top was all the deep kickoffs, consistent PATs and an 80 yard punt as a cherry on top Seemed like OLD times- where you just sit back and enjoy our boys put an a$$ whooping on someone.
  9. Coming out of the Spring game I said it would be Ervin and Yant. He certainly gives this offense a different dimension. I like how he runs. In all fairness to the other backs- the holes in this game werent like anything we saw all season. AND lots less penetration- the game was being played on the Defenses side of the ball- very few times did a defender have to be beat just to make it back to the LOS
  10. This is a modern option game- with motions, counter motions and counter steps we didnt see much of during the Osborne era. The option- we saw some of it earlier in the season and flashes of it since. It was great to see and hopefully we continue to see more of it. HCSF in the past has come up with a wrinkle- it works and you don't see much of it again- like the I formation power game against OSU.

  12. Dude, there will be 80,000 people there. You're going to see only a handful of masks. Where I sit, I don't see anyone with a mask. This years Spring Game- we were all supposed to be wearing masks- about 10% did. Only need it to go into SOME bars and restaurants. Was in Haymarket last Saturday- went into 3-4 places without one.
  13. I agree with you on Austin. However this is primarily a zone blocking team. Most of the inside runs you see are zone blocked. Scott ran lots of zone at Oregon and even some at NU. That is his bread and butter play.
  14. No- you don't have to "show your papers" it's not like you're in Seattle and no you won't find any s#!t in our streets either. LOL
  15. Correct. To the unsuccessful- many of them think everything is chalked up to luck and fortuitous timing. That's what they think and what they tell themselves to help them feel better about themselves. At the end of the day- that attitude is most likely responsible for their fate. When in reality almost all the time it's due to effective, efficient and consistent preparation. To the point where much of the intended actions look almost effortless. BTW Practice DOESNT mean perfect, I hate that dang phrase. Team and Group A may spend 3 hours practicing. Team B may practice the same amount of time. It matters what you practice, how you practice it, how you're taught it, quality control, pace and intensity. Team A and Team B may have radically different levels of competency based on the coaching they received. That's why some coaches are very successful and make a lot of money and many who do not.
  16. He was pretty awesome in college. He went 20-5 as a starter and set the Michigan passing record for yards in their biggest game- Ohio State. He averaged 15 TDs and 8 Ints in a era 20+ years ago where the huge passing numbers werent so commonplace. A real value find for sure- and mobile- not so much.
  17. Partly yes- well connected and liked I could agree on. As an NFL coach he failed miserably. But it is a fraternity of sorts. He also was getting lots of props from the Manning QB camp guys. Yep, without a rush he looked great. That's why it matters how things turn out in games. https://nflmocks.com/2017/06/29/nfl-draft-nebraska-tanner-lee-manning/
  18. Very true- that's why we are consistently ranked 100+ in Red Zone Efficiency Lots or people point to the yards when judging NU offense or AM. Unfortunately the wins and losses are the only thing that really count for anything. We could average 600 yards per game this year and end up 4-8. I would much rather we put up 350 yards per game and end up 7-5.
  19. Facts are facts- sorry they don't fit your narrative.
  20. Kind of At the time a Canadian company was peddling it and somehow they had a connection to Tom Osborne I think through a coaching clinic. TO was willing to take a chance on it, first College in the US. He later became a low key advocate for them. HUGE improvement over the asphalt like "astro turf" we played on. Wicked turf burns if you didnt cover up you elbows.
  21. My youngest always enjoyed going to Mistys in Havelock on Friday night of the game to see the old school stuff and see the band and cheerleaders perform- everyone stands, claps etc. It's fun. Then before the game- over to the weight room- trophy case- Brook TO statue.
  22. I dont I also consider in fumbles TD passes thrown Wins and Losses Game ending drives AKA clutch time plays
  23. Not true- Adrian is averaging 10 TDs and 7 Interceptions per season Allen averaged 22 TDs and 11 Interceptions per season
  24. Tanner was an AWESOME combine type QB. Can make all the throws with zero pressure and they look REALLY good too. My buddy from Jacksonville looked at him and thought he looked pretty good, was some diamond in the rough value find. I had to break it to him- who TL was and that no he wasn't going to make the squad or be able to help them
