I don't see how NU gets any money back. Els' contract would have ran through the 2015 season. I guess I did not realize that.

Two thirds of our games are from within the conference. I think when the conference is or appears strong, it is good for the national rankings. High national rankings are good for recruiting, recruiting is good for Nebraska. The SEC has had a feast on having or at least the perception of a strong conference. Oh, and your right.... bragging rights are nice.

It is never as simple as one thing such as stars with successful teams. It ALL matters. Stars (talent), good coaching from the head coach on down to all assistance, facilities, culture, mindset etc.o The losses by MSU and Iowa make no difference to me as far as our team goes unless we use it as a measuring stick. People have short memories, and weather we beat MSU or played Iowa close will have no bearing on anything as we move forward IMO. I doubt a recruit will drill down to that level in his decision matrix when looking at schools. I would have liked for MSU and Iowa to have won though, as I do root for our conference for recruiting reasons.

I am not sure I believe in these mythical lists? If they do exist, I think ADs put a list of possible candidates together quickly, and only after a certain amount of time has been given to the coach. Factors such as high level of grumblings from booster and fans would also drive it. The coach carousel spins so quickly any more that it would be impossible to have any list that would not be outdated fairly quickly.

I really like hearing that the network is failing. I cannot help but still feel bitter about the way things went down in the our old conference. I feel Beebe and all things Texas are to blame.

It will be interesting to see what happens with him. I am not sure any other NFL teams want to try the go fast Kelly experiment? Additionally, with him demanding control of personnel, it may be another road block for some teams. I am confident that he will get scooped up quickly by the college ranks at some point if he is still on the market.

I have occasionally wondered if coaching at schools that are overflowing with talent such as Miami is bittersweet. On one hand, you have incredible athletes with amazing talent which can do anything asked of them playing the game of football. However, do those same talent rich players come with an entitled individualistic mindset that makes them harder to coach? Is it harder to get them to play as a team? Of course this is all speculation, but I do think some coaches have troubles because they fail at speaking a language that gets through to some players. People in general receive, process and learn information in different ways. I don't follow the Canes enough to know if that is what happened to Golden, but who knows?

No. It's never been that way. That's what many people think the rule says but it's not. I don't want to derail the thread, but I would like to hear your explanation of this. Many many years ago when I played ball, it was as dvd described. Of course I don't see many things called in game as they use to....especially at the NBA level. Also, the penalty on Gerry was pure BS!

Be specific, what year? I would love to see that, but don't see that large of a jump from this season to the next.

I didn't read the whole thread so perhaps this has been discussed? Did anyone think that Langs would panic after we went down by two scores in the first half and go away from the ground game that was working? I sure did. I was surprised and happy that he stuck with it! Also, did anyone see when Riley was bent over at the knees for a long period after a few failed red zone pass plays? (I hope my memory is correct) At first I wondered if he was okay as it looked so unusual, but then I wondered if he was hiding from the cameras as he gave Langs a few strong words? We will never know.....just curious on anyone else's thoughts.

Welcome to da board. I've been wondering the same thing for some time. Adam red-shirted when the coaching staff asked and played on the practice squad and was complimented at that time by the players and staff as being ready to play and was a real load to bring down. Then the broken ankle. Then nothing and he got very few meaningful reps in pre-season practice when Riley took over. I am guessing there may have been a rehab issue with the ankle. But that seems odd with Adams rehab and return to field after he tore his ACL in high school. So, I put him getting about near zero play time on the sports med folks and the new Mike Riley coaching staff that has no appreciation for a power run offense. IMHO Mike Riley is in way over his head at Nebraska. He came in there with no intention of putting in a power run based offense. His piss-poor coaching and game mgt. skills were on full display for the 6-7 games of the season. His clock mgt. and play calling skills were about as bad as it could get. He had players who were starters last year who were good performers were now judged to be so bad that they should not be allowed to be on the field. There were players with demonstrated on field skills now riding the bench for some mysterious reason. I'm amazed the Huskers with Mike Riley in charge was able to finish the season with a few Wins. If I was Adam I'd get the hell out of there. IMHO, and it's sad to say this, but with Mike Riley as head coach, Nebraska is a place where great talent goes to die. At one time Nebraska had an open door with the possibility of building a pipeline to the nations#1 (per the final 2015 rankings of USA Today, MaxPreps, VYPE, and HSFB100) ranked HS football program in the country. That train left the station the day Mike Riley rolled into Lincoln. Mike Riley's coaching shills are so bad, I had to quit watching the last half of the season. It was hard to watch the players busting their buts to try to win a game and be in a position to win ... only to have Mike Riley sabotage their efforts by his idiotic play calling or his deaf, dumb and blind clock mgt. decisions. Mike Riley is Mike Riley and will coach like Mike Riley. Why the AD and Admin. hired him ... I have no clue ... and Riley is well on his way in destroying the Nebraska Brand of Football Really? I am not a fan of many coaching decisions either, but to use a new members questions about a specific player as a platform to go on an excessive coaching rant just seems odd.

I lived in Cheyenne for awhile. I would say if your looking for change, you will like Casper. Not much in the way of civilization between the cities. The wind seems like it is always blowing in much of the state which can wear on you. The altitude will take some getting use to....you may feel like your out of breath when doing anything strenuous for awhile until you adjust. It is a semi-arid climate so you may like not having humid summers, but stock up on chap stick until your body adjust to the new climate as your lips will be the first thing effected.

Disagree. Not impressed against UCLA or all season. For a guy that gets paid as much as he does, and that is all he has to focus on, I expect MUCH more from our ST.

Even if they aren't ready? Don't tell me there's nobody better on this team than Utter. If that's the case then we can just forget Husker football ever being good again. You can choose to go that route. Some of us are going to let the coaches get us back to being very good!!! The way I see it is this. I have a couple of options. First option; I can act like some of the people who have been banned here recently. I can rant and rave and no matter what happens, I'll blame the coaches and demand their removal every chance I get. My life will generally be miserable because of all the doom and gloom I'll be spouting. Second option; I can maintain a positive outlook even though we had a bad year. I can maintain hope for the future and be excited when signing day comes and then spring practice after that. I can be patient and understand that sometimes coaching transitions are a process. This option leaves me happier and more stress free in my daily life, so that's what I chose, but that's just me. Why is it binary, though? Why is it either kool aid or doom and gloom? Why can't it be a little bit of both? Why can't someone say they like Riley's disposition, are encouraged that we were in every game this season, like what we're seeing from some position groups (LBs, WRs, DBs), and are liking the S&C program, but are a little bit worried about the offensive play-calling, personnel mismanagement, refusal to rotate linemen, etc.? I think most sensible Husker fans were a little bit unsure about the Riley hire, became downright worried when he outfitted his staff with ineffective cronies from Oregon State, and full-on hit the panic button when this supposedly veteran staff was making game management mistakes that would cause a pimply faced Madden playing teenager do a face palm. That said, we want the program to succeed and are hopeful it will, but see some concerning issues that warrant mention if only because it's cathartic to voice our opinion, but also in the faint, perhaps unrealistic hope that someone important is listening and might take what the fans are seeing to heart. +1

What I do see though is players getting man handled at times, taking plays off, slow to react etc. Other times, they look fresh, strong and focused. Head scratcher in the consistency department?

Way too many variables between now and who knows when in regards to Frost possibly coming to NU. In the end, I don't care who our coach is as long as he gets more way W's then L's, and is good for the players, the team and the university.
