  1. This is interesting because LSU fans seem to have been about as pleased with their OC as we have been with ours of late.
  2. I don't get this...Watson is not in high demand with this year's offense performance.
  3. Watched on ESPN 360. Definitely heard the crowd louder than recent telecasts. It was thundering at times and rattled OU's offense. Seemed to pump up our defense too! Great job, crowd!
  4. Big "yes". With our offense in shambles, I gave us no chance to win. The defense played the best I have seen since I can remember. If the defense gives up one big play, misses one tackle, misses one key assignment, etc. then OU has the talent to burn us at any moment. I kept expecting this to happen (it seems to ALWAYS happen)...I mean how long can we hold friggin' OU to 3 points???!!!! For real??? ...well, we just did it boyz! INCREDIBLE!
  5. Best game I can remember in awhile from Dillard. He definitely was playing with extra motivation. :spooners
  6. I think most college football fans know Boise State is legit top 25 year in and year out. The tough part is when they get inside top 10 because then you have to start looking at an unbeaten Boise vs. 1 loss teams in major conferences. But these guys have made a name for themselves and have beaten quality programs last few years. I would love to play these guys and see how our defense matches their offense.
  7. Major props to Matty O! Keep it up...I doubt this is the last of the close games and we need our D to continue to play lights out!
  8. An absolutely unreal win! Go with hot hand...I don't really care anymore...just get wins! I say go 2 QB system and whoever is hot, let them play. Defense is again the story...unreal...Suh, O'Hanlon, Dillard, Crick, Hagg, Dennard, Prince....completely awesome!!! When is the last time OU scored 3 points??!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. IMO the jury is out on the offense (we are just going to have to live with it for rest of season). We had to leave Watson in for offensive continuity during the transition to Pelini. Being depleted at RB (Castille gone, Burkhead hurt, Helu hurt) has hurt our RB play. We have below average QB play with Lee who probably can run Watson's offense fine in practice so they are reluctant to go away from him (until today). Green is young and doesn't have much experience obviously. WR's have been an issue for awhile as we continually did not recruit well there and it has caught up and become obvious. Perfect storm has hit us...can't rely on RB as our first and second string are hurt, QB is below average (unexpected with Lee, not so much with Green because he is learning), and we have no playmakers at WR (exposed but we all knew this pretty much). The above being said I am still amazed that Watson hasn't changed it up some on offense. We all have seen this offense not work for several weeks and with some pretty poor playcalls going against sometimes what we have working in a game. This is troubling part for me and finally we saw a change to Green today. Can't be fixed overnight but what I think will happen is we need to see some new wrinkles out of the offense that must start to work. TE play, QB runs with Green, power formations. Look at other teams and you see when a QB change comes the style of play adapts to the strengths of the personnel. If Watson hangs his hat on these same plays that are not getting us anywhere, then I think he could be in trouble. But, if he is able to show improvement with Green and new sparks and wrinkles to the offense, then he will be fine. This is what I think Bo is grading him on. Of course, we got to get some W's...if not next off-season will be all about the new offense being installed in Lincoln.
  10. I did catch some of this game. I have never seen any team run it with authority like this on a Pete Carroll USC team. I know we recruited LaMichael James and he ended up at Oregon. They are very interesting to watch with their brand of offense. They stubbed their toe out of the gate with Boise State but since then have been clicking on offense. QB Masoli is from City College of San Francisco...same as Zac Lee...imagine if we had Masoli! I took a look at their coaches. I knew Scott Frost was there as WR's coach (I'd like to have Frost back at NU at some point). Chip Kelly is of course head coach who took over for Mike Bellotti. He was the OC prior and is the offensive mind at Oregon. Interesting if you check out the coaches page as the current OC is formerly of Colorado...I didn't know that but assume Kelly is the main offensive guy. The OL coach seems to be longtime Oregon guy. And check out who is under Frost on the page...a guy that happens to have the name Tom Osborne...pretty ironic! Link to Oregon coaches: http://www.goducks.com/SportSelect.dbml?&a...&SPSID=3376
  11. let me save everyone the time. and of course....
  12. Not qualified as OC, but I think Scott Frost would come back to Nebraska if opportunity presented itself. He is currently the WR's coach at Oregon.
  13. Player: Corey Cooper Hometown: Maywood, IL Position: S Height: 6'2" Weight: 203 lbs. 40 time: 4.5 Visit Date: Scholarships offered: Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan State, Minnesota, Arizona, Stanford, Notre Dame, Tennessee Favorites: Verbal to Illinois but remains open Rankings/Stars: Rivals: Big Red Report: Assessing the talent: Multi-talented recruit does it all playing offense, defense, and special teams for his HS. Solid prospect with good size and physicality projecting as S. Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 20% With Zook possibly on the hook, not too surprising he is looking at other programs. Has visited Notre Dame. Will visit Nebraska on 11/6. Could be strong, physical SS we need.
  14. We need to "pull" this guy in for a visit.
  15. You hit it there with "chump passes". No way Green throws as many of these chump passes as Lee...that alone makes me lean Green. These chump passes are getting us nowhere. Even when they are completed they are small yardage. This is not your 49er Super Bowl winning version of the west coast offense. Ours is "chump passes stuck in molasses".
  16. Dude obviously has his priorities all wrong!
  17. Yup. I think that has to be attractive to him. Cody Green will be at QB and we have some talented OL recruits which is key. Would love to have him come here!
  18. We better have Green ready to go this week. In looking back at the game, the coaches were likely thinking our defense was going to hold ISU down without their QB and RB (like we did) and we should have enough to put up another TD and FG and win it like 17-9...there was no reason to think we could not have done that (and I am sure Bo was confident Watson could do this)...so I am thinking they were reluctant to bring Green in when they figured Lee would be able to do the job easily...as we know the crazy turnovers in the red zone killed us. I don't think the coaches realized the dire situation until it was too late...we were winning or losing with Lee. I wanted to see Green but to bring him in late in the 4th would have been a lot to ask. The above being said, Lee has had 16 quarters vs. BCS teams and other than 4th qtr against Mizzou, has done nothing. Green has to play against Baylor. Give him the chance...if he doesn't do well then we still have Lee. We must find out if Green can spark and lead the offense and give it another dimension with his legs and strong arm. Heck, maybe we find out we go with rotation depending on opponent match-ups...but do something!!!
  19. Good article...states a lot of the obvious.
  20. Interesting list. Bo is the coach we need and was the right hire IMO. We desperately needed defense and he is one of the best. Too early to rate him high because this is only year 2 with him. Stoops above Carroll? One has shown he wins the big games consistently while the other one cannot win the big game. Ferentz at #5...meh. Without this year he may not even be sniffing this list. Richt at #10? This is suspect at best. O'Brien at #14? Spurrier at #21? Maybe based on over a decade ago! Pinkel above Miles? I don't think so.
  21. JTrain...that is a classic avatar. I like it!
  22. On a positive note, we do have an elite defense...I never thought we'd turn around the defense as much as we have so I give Pelini major props there...they kept saying on the telecast today that we have the best front 4 in the country...I like to hear stuff like that...it is good for the program. On the other hand, I never thought our offense would be this awful. That being said, we need to turn things around on the offense. Looking for any signs of hope...Green will get better with the offense and hopefully play, Burkhead showed some good play before he was injured, Helu is great when he is not banged up, we got some guys coming up on the OL to hopefully look forward to, Robinson and Mendoza are looking alright for young players, we got good depth at TE, our WR's (well, I got nothing there). Anyway, we are far, far away from an elite offense but there is no reason why we can't build the offense back up and be consistently in the Top 25 with this brand of defense we are playing. I know some of you will say Top 25 is not good enough for NU...let's get there consistently first and then we can think about how we move back up to being where we belong. I thought this would be a year that we could plug along showing we are Top 25 but don't think that is happening this year... Here is what I would do with our situation: 1) Build and maintain the defense because we have one of the top defensive minds in the game as our head coach (defense always will keep us in the game and draw the best defensive recruits)..sort of like Alabama of recent years...you knew they could play defense...offense wasn't the best. We should hands down be the best defense in the Big 12 and accept no less. 2) Build the O-Line (it starts up front). 3) Recruit and produce top RB's and always be able to run the ball. 4) Look for a leader and playmaker at QB. 5) Get WR's that are playmakers and can catch the ball. There have to be some key offensive recruits that should want to play here because of the huge needs we have on offense. The defense will keep us in the game. You will have chance to play early on offense. Burkhead is the level of recruit that is major example of this. We need more of these types of recruits.
