  1. Turner had one fumble all season. It was not a turnover, but it was a muffed punt against Minnesota. *edit - to correct to "not a turnover." Transposed a row when I was looking at my list.
  2. His fumbles are an issue, no doubt, but I think they get overstated a bit. He had a total of 8 fumbles, of which 6 were turnovers. Fully half of them, 4(3TO), were muffed punt returns - something he's clearly not great at. I hope he can clean that up because of his potential for a breakout return each time he touches the ball, but if he can't someone with surer hands should get that role full time. Set aside his issues on returns, and his fumble stats on the year in his role as a RB become a lot more tolerable. Regardless, it's still an area to improve upon, and I'm pretty confident he'll get that sorted out. Out of 257 touches as a RB, I can't be too upset over 4(3TO) fumbles, especially when at least one of them was questionable (yeah, yeah, never leave it in the ref's hands, I know).
  3. I'm not terribly interested in where our overall salary budget for assistants ranks. I am interested in how individual coaches' salaries stack up against those of their counterparts at comparable programs relative to their performance. I wish I had time to dig into such a comparison at the moment. Looking at the raises that our guys got, I'm pleased with Beck's raise and see that as a good sign when we go shopping for coordinators in the future. I don't see any other raises that are particularly surprising or out of order - nothing for me to get bent out of shape about.
  4. I don't think anyone had any difficulty understanding your point. Most people just seem to think that your point is ridiculous, and they're right.
  5. How awful a diarrhea wreaking thread must reek!?!
  6. I can only imagine how people would react if we hired a position coach as our next head coach. Regardless who he is, that would get a lot of heat, and for good reason. Which is probably why he said "someday" rather than right now. He'll be a coordinator, if not a HC, elsewhere before he ever gets the opportunity to come back to Lincoln as a coach.
  7. No offense, but of all the dumb comments made on this board after a loss, this might just be the dumbest.
  8. OMFG please stop with all of these passing plays! F'n Beck!
  9. I haven't seen a poster so unlikeable since August. Tell me, Hedley, are you by chance a fan of Joseph Heller?
  10. Wow, Debbie Downer, thanks. Of course it was lucky - runs like that are by nature lucky since you certainly can't design it like that. Plays get blown up all the time, and every now and then we see something amazing like that spring from the smoldering ruins of the called play. Most people appreciate it for what it is - Martinez's raw athleticism, coupled with a quadruple shot of luck resulting in an incredible run like that. There's no need to dissect it and look for a reason to bitch about what went wrong, just bask in the amazing "Top Play" that it was.
  11. It's probably not an affectation. I've lived and worked in Birmingham for most of my adult life, and I've seen it used in all kinds of writing. Hell, I've seen it used in business correspondence from MBAs. I don't even notice it anymore.
  12. I remember that game very well. I was sitting in a restaurant having burgers and beer with a half dozen of my buddies, and watching that game while our girlfriends and wives were out Christmas shopping. Those friends, a mix of Alabama and Auburn fans, gave me all kinds of grief for the rest of that weekend. It was a really disappointing end to the season, but it would have been absolute meltdown material for the chicken little crowd if there had been social media and message boards to fuel a fire back then. The Internet has made life good for us fans that live out of state, giving us access to information that was harder to come by back then (my main source of info used to be the sports section from the paper that my family mailed to me). There's a price to be paid for that, though, and we're witnessing it with this panic that so many of our myopic , panic-prone brethren are consumed with lately.
  13. I've always been curious about whether the budget was made available to go hire the big time coordinators. Regardless of the HC's desires, hiring for these positions requires the commitment to make it happen financially. How willing were TO and others to sign off on a 750k-1M salary for truly top shelf talent? Was Pelini forced to settle for what he felt were the best people he could get for 300k or less? Regardless of what's been the case in the past, is Eichorst prepared to fight for and commit the resources necessary if we find ourselves shopping for some replacement coordinators and/or position coaches?
  14. I'm stunned by how much time UCLA is wasting on this last drive...
  15. Bummer for me, but good for the school and most fans. Hattiesburg is less than 3 hours away, and I was planning to get over there for this game. :/
  16. Nebraska vs Wisconsin Louisville vs Rutgers Northern Illinois vs Kent State UCLA vs Stanford Oklahoma vs TCU Oklahoma State vs Baylor UCF vs Tulsa Nicholls State vs Oregon State Kansas vs West Virginia Boise State vs Nevada Texas vs Kansas State Florida State vs Georgia Tech Alabama vs Georgia
  17. Nebraska @ Iowa Michigan @ Ohio State Purdue @ Indiana Wisconsin @ Penn State Illinois @ Northwestern Michigan State @ Minnesota Rutgers @ Pittsburgh TCU @ Texas Oregon @ Oregon State Florida @ Florida State Oklahoma State @ Oklahoma Stanford @ UCLA South Carolina @ Clemson Notre Dame @ USC (hah - took me almost 6 years to get to 500 posts, and this was it)
  18. Yeah, the opening teaser that you're describing was by far the most egregious, and each time they teased the upcoming segments the host (forget his name) kept building the "Big Trouble at Nebraska?" theme they were going for. I fully understand why they do it (and they're good at their jobs), but anyone that just saw the teases and didn't stick around to see the segment is left thinking "hey, wtf is going on at Nebraska?" rather than the anticlimactic truth of "nope, there's nothing to this story guys."
  19. Heads up - ESPN's College Football Live is covering this issue today. The show is on ESPNU today since there's bball on ESPN. It hasn't aired yet, they just teased the subject at the start of the show. Prediction: bullsh#t overreaction Edit to update: It wasn't too bad. At commercial breaks, the host kept teasing this segment by asking "has Pelini lost his team" and saying stuff like "we've seen Pelini blow up before." Matt Millen was the analyst, and he was rightly dismissive of the seriousness of the situation. He was a little critical of Stafford for not respecting the authority of the coach, though, saying that it's something that will need to be addressed between Pelini & Stafford behind closed doors. That's not surprising from an old school guy.
  20. With all the video I've seen, from every available angle, zoomed in and frame-by-frame, I'm firmly in the camp that thinks that whatever was called on the field would stand in this situation. Neither would be a terrible call. I still don't consider what we see in this .gif to be conclusive one way or another. Everything I've seen leaves me believing that in the few frames before the ball breaks the plane, it looks like the ball might be moving. I think that the question of whether or not the ball was coming out prior to him crossing the line is what they weren't able to conclusively answer, and thus they let the call stand. It's a tough break for PSU, a lucky one for us, and one that could have gone either way. That happens in this sport, and like most of you, I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game.
  21. OP has a point. I think a mod has been a little quick with the locks lately, and also a little too picky about what is or isn't worthy of discussion.
  22. I hear this said fairly often, and the people saying this usually don't remember (or just weren't around) the fact that while Osborne didn't do it, he had plenty of assistant coaches more than willing to do it for him. It's a different coaching style - not rare by any stretch of the imagination, just different. I also take exception to the notion that Bo insults his players. There's a world of difference between tearing into someone's ass and insulting them. You seem to think the two go hand in hand, and they just don't.
  23. And that's where you demonstrate that you have no idea what the heck you're talking about. You're right. Bo is absolutely perfect in every way and I was wrong for questioning the way he criticizes his players. My apologies. Nobody has made that claim to my knowledge, and certainly not me. All that's being said is that this isn't some indication of major problems or an out of control coach as you seem to be asserting (with precious little to back it up).
  24. I bet you're wrong. But I bet that 75% of this board knows that Bo doesn't constantly put his team down. Bo believes it's ok to raise your voice, but you should always be coaching letting them know what they did wrong and how to fix it. He isn't just yelling to be a prick or pick on guys, there's always a reason. This is where our opinions differ. And that's where you demonstrate that you have no idea what the heck you're talking about.
