  1. There was an economist that called Russia a "glorified gas station with nukes" in the leadup to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This kind of goes along with that assessment. Also, there's a reason China has started putting money into military instead of working with Russia the past ~20 years. China probably knew all of this before anyone else did.
  2. I dunno...there's already shuttles so people can park out and be brought to campus as-is.
  3. Yup--it's the old fairgrounds. Plenty of space for a new stadium, parking, and more.
  4. Um...I thought the UNL Innovation Campus is...on campus? I mean, it's in it's name, right?
  5. https://afdc.energy.gov/data/10621 The latest official figures through 2019 show Russia is ~5% at best, so I don't know where 10% is coming from. You are correct that Russia is on par with Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and OPEC countries. It's also why the US has begun discussions with Venezuela and we've seen a good faith gesture on Venezuela's part (release of an imprisoned US citizen). I'm not excited about getting in bed with Venezuela to replace our Russian imports...but when we're so dependent on oil we do what we must. Another reason that the sectors of our economy that *can* go green, including transportation, *should* go green ASAP. With the economy as red hot as it is, now is the time to introduce market disruption while the market can take the hit.
  6. This x1,000,000,000. Frankly, if we're going to do beer in-stadium, it should be unique, like the Runzas and Valentino's we offer. No InBev bulls*** beers--go to local breweries for your beer or go f*** off.
  7. Also...this is an interesting thread regarding the number of high-ranking officers in the Russian army that have been killed in action, how those officers are being sent to the front lines because Russian morale and competence is at an all-time low...and how the Russian army took out all of the 3G/4G cell towers and now can't communicate securely using their new system set up last year... ...which is how the West is getting confirmation of troop movements, KIAs, and more. They're using regular SIM cards/phones confiscated locally to report back to brass.
  8. Not really. Ever since China became a player in the 1990s, Russia has looked at China as a red-headed step-brother, and would only sell them used military equipment at outlandish prices. I remember our professor in the 1990s mentioning how China had to decide whether to feed their troops for a year or buy a Cold-War era used Aircraft Carrier. Russia never did China any favors that mattered. That still holds true today. Yes, they put on a unified front in public, but I think we're starting to see China realize their relationship with Russia is like being a brother to a meth-addled junkie (not unlike the GOP's relationship to Trump supporters)--they get along, but don't expect much of anything substantial from Russia to China now or ever. It's why China's bolstered their military spending and reach--they realize sooner or later, people would see Russia for the oversized gas station they are, and whatever "military alliance" they had would be weakened as a result. Now, it's about China alone when we talk about potential Asian military hegemons (Japan and South Korea are cultural and economic hegemons), bolstered by China's allies in Africa that they've been supplying weapons and equipment to for the past decade plus. China's military isn't exactly scary, but the sheer number of people they can throw at a conflict has to be respected. Then again, the last country to disrespect China's numerical advantage was Japan...and that worked out pretty well for them (until Japan became stretched too thin and couldn't hold what they took)...the same Japan that pwned Russia in the early 1900s.
  9. We only get 1-2% of our oil from Russia, so it shouldn't have a 7-8% impact on the market. That's just panic and price gouging by those in control. Of course, the Brandon supporters have no f****** clue how reality works, so they'll just blame Biden.
  10. Possibly, but there's something to be said about biting the hand that feeds. Many in the GOP are supported by Russian money and Oligarchs who have their hands so far up their a** that douchecanoes like Cruuuuuuuuz taste Preparation H constantly.
  11. This is huge...I just wonder how much will be shed and if these gains will be remembered when the market contracts due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
  12. I'll be surprised if today's games happen. We're all socked in down in DFW with ice.
  13. Wonder how far we'd need to go in the B1G tourney to change this. Quarterfinals? Finals? Win the B1G?
  14. At this point, just don't even bother showing up for the B1G Tourney. Just say the team got COVID or something so we can end this here and now. And I'd think Hoiberg would take a reduced buyout at this point. He's not going to get an extension, so good luck getting players here. And every year he puts this s*** show out, he hurts his future potential as a coach or analyst that much more.
  15. This is par for the course when you hire a non-pitcher as a pitching coach. While some of this was sloppy defense, our poor pitching is concerning. We should be streets ahead in that...and we aren't. I worry that while Bolt will get the defense and offense where it should be, our pitching will be the phase that can't seem to get its act together this season. Then again, the season is young, so I hope I'm wrong. I really do.
  16. This is all too common in Texass. There's a reason there is separation of Church and State, and a reason why churches being tax-exempt was tied into avoiding political discourse. Because you get myopic asshats like this and people that support this garbage doing damage to the country. Honestly, at this point, I wonder if these people are too far gone to be brought back to sanity/reality.
  17. Unfortunately the sarcasm tag is necessary--what you said sounds unfortunately plausible anymore. Who thought Idiocrary would come to pass and roost in the GOP? At least the Starbucks at the RNC will be bangin'.
  18. So far no...but I'll keep checking. Was going to go down for this...but got a volleyball tourney to go to instead.
  19. If you're into meth or bath-salt zombies.
  20. It allows the University AD to function as a non-profit, as it currently does, and not use taxpayer funds to support *any* of the sports programs it provides. It additionally allows the University to reap the benefits--any old facilities no longer in use are typically donated to UNL, which helps the school out immensely. Also, if the budget is there, then less large projects need to go to the boosters for handouts. The AD can just get on with it.
  21. Don't have to. IIRC what's being sold are slots of Tier 1 (think Ohio State vs. Penn State, Nebraska vs. Wisky, Michigan vs. Penn State) and Tier 2 (Nebraska vs. Minny, Nebraska vs. Iowa, Michigan vs. Michigan State) football game inventory plus first dibs for home field broadcast rights during non-con season, and possibly the B1G Title Game (football-wise). BTN gets whatever doesn't get picked up by NBC in this scenario. And since NBC has expanded sports to its other channels (since doing away with NBC Sports), you could have B1G games on NBC OTA, USA, etc. Additionally, there could be a caveat where if something isn't being covered by the BTN that's an Olympic sport, NBC's Olympics Sports channel could have the rights to broadcast if they wish...which would provide additional inventory to that channel. Thing is, if you thought the ESPN B1G coverage was bad now...just wait until the B1G completely cuts them out of the picture. The politics will get even worse.
  22. And would have had better this year too had he stayed (and won the position). Also, the Big XII really isn't that great. Iowa State is on the decline, Texass just flat out sucks, Oklahoma may be headed for bumpy roads with their new Coach, and there's really no one (Okie Lite? Really?) that will jump off the page and suggest they're the team to beat. Hell...if anything, K-State is looking like they may have the pieces, relatively speaking, to make a run for the Big XII title. But put K-State in any other P5 conference (okay...maybe not the Pac-12) and you'd be hard pressed to see them come away with anything other than a .500 season. What's funny is that the Big XII looks to improve their quality of football when they add those four new programs and drop OU and UT. Right now they're barely treading water with the Pac-12.
  23. Yup. The cool thing is homes in Lincoln have basements...and homes in DFW generally don't, and the real estate figures don't include basement square footage, so more home for the $$ in Lincoln.
