  1. "Did Brion Carnes develop any splinters sitting on the wooden benches in Madison, and did those splinters prevent him from entering the game?" -or- "Bo, I've got Marvin on the line, and he says he's *really* sorry for whatever it was he did last year, and he was wondering if DoNU would take him back?"
  2. A-Rod left the lineup due to injury IIRC, and I thought the coaches made it a point to say you wouldn't lose your spot due to injury. Plus, there's nothing to prevent Beck to sub Choi in after the first series, after we see if ARod is up to snuff.
  3. Just football--I know the potential grant monies we'll earn in the Big 10 due to the CIC outweigh the big fat zero of the Big XII. And this is a big 'what if'--I'm perfectly content in the Big 10. If anything, just feel sorry for some of the smaller schools from time to time. Call it survivor's guilt, I suppose.
  4. IIRC, a Pac-10 official was fired over that. I don't think the same recompense will occur here.
  5. This, and the media is pandering to people in the south because of population shifts, to a degree--hence all the love for the SEC. Problem is, these things are cyclical, and population will eventually move back up north, and the internet will be around to remind everyone what douchebags Dodd and Finebaum are.
  6. I don't mind Herbstreit and I love Keith Jackson. Muskburger and Griese have both more than earned Husker fans ire. Some of what I hate them for would no longer be an issue since we are now part of their favored B1G conference. Griese promoting his own kid and Michigan back when Nebraska clearly had the better team and should not have had to share a title with Michigan is a good place to start looking for answers. As for the Muskburger issue, all you have to do is rewatch virtually any NU game he has done and listen to how lopsided most of his commentary is. That and his propensity for going way over the top on the most basic of circumstances. JJ--I'm not disagreeing with you. Lord knows if I ever meet Griese in person, it will take every fiber of my being not to kick him in the nuts and tell him that was for the '97 Huskers. And frankly, I could do the same to Herbie and Messyburger for trying to defend that human excrement Walt Anderson in '09. But people have even run down Herbie and Keith Jackson here and elsewhere too. Unless the announcer is an unabashed homer (see: Kugler doing the BTN games for Volleyball and Football), we're never collectively happy with anyone, it seems.
  7. Don't get me wrong--I do too. I'm just saying, if you're Chuck Neinas, shouldn't this be your best way to fix the conference? I agree this very well could or should be Neinas's plan A for fixing the Big 12. However I don't see Nebraska going back now that were in the B1G and everyone is happy. Your plan really should of happened before Colorado and Nebraska even left. Ideally, yes. But Oklahoma's, Missouri's, and A&M's contempt for Texas wasn't out in the open, where it needed to be to gain traction on such a movement.
  8. Pakistan has us over a barrel because of Afghanistan, and they know it. I think it's time we not only got out of there, but we take the money we're throwing at Pakistan and blatantly and openly give it to India. Pakistan isn't going to get their house in order because we asked them to--they're going to get their house in order because they'll see us throwing weight behind their biggest, nuclear-armed adversary with an itchy trigger finger. I don't like middle-finger politics, but when you have the Pakistani government deliberately putting our troops in harms way and actively sabotaging our efforts, they have to know if you mess with the bull, you get the horns.
  9. I think she's saying "Tuna, Eggs, Doritos, Cheesecake, Tamales", but I'm not sure. Thanks for the laugh today, BennyChico11.

  11. Just follow me here for a second... It seems as if Colorado, Nebraska, A&M, and (now) Missouri all have problems with the same school, Texas. Schools like TCU, SMU, and Houston are wanting automatic BCS bid conference homes. Why doesn't Chuck Neinas get the other Big XII ADs to boot Texas, get commits from the departed schools to come back, and add the above TX schools to go to 14? Yes, I understand that Texas' absence would put a dent in the Big XII contract negotiations coming up. But the Big XII is currently looking at losing the Denver, St. Louis, KC, and Houston markets since their last discussion thanks to Texas being Texas in the Big IX (soon to be Big VIII). That would be almost as devastating as dropping Texas completely. By removing the cancer from the patient, you can add the Texas schools to keep the DFW and Houston markets (Austin is lost), get your second-best program back (that's us folks), and you keep Denver, KC, and St. Louis intact. Also, you get an additional $20+ million/year (per B1G and Pac-12 deals) for your title game that gets split 14 ways that wasn't there before. Yes, it would be a hard sell...but isn't selling the remaining Big IX members on a long-term future with Houston, Denver, KC, and St. Louis markets being replaced with BYU and whatever flotsam or jetsam happens to wash up just as hard? (and yes, I realize that this is as likely as Mila Kunis showing up at my door with a permission note from my wife, but if you're tasked with saving a dying patient, aren't you supposed to explore *all* options?)
  12. I'd prefer a nice floral print, maybe something out of the Prada spring collection. We're just having an unseasonably warm fall this year, so the white after labor day rule is *completely* out the window. /fabulous
  13. Looks like that stadium was solidly 45% red, at the least. TV made it look even worse than what the overhead pic shows. Can't wait to see how much black shows up in Camp Randall.
  14. I *heart* Suh. With apologies to Larry the Cable Guy, Suh may very well become our best DoNU celebrity alum/representative/ambassador in years. That, and I could easily see Suh in 10-12 years time (after retiring from the NFL) moving into the booth. He's intelligent, articulate, well-spoken, and isn't afraid to speak his mind. Plus, he's deservedly getting a lot of credit for helping turn around one of the NFL's most moribund teams of all time, and in a city that has become the butt of jokes for decades. Is there anything this man can't do? No. They're practically twins. If Suh could grow a 70s porn 'stache, he could double for Cam.
  15. I guess the question we should be asking here is if there are *any* ABC/ESPN/MickeyEars sports announcers that Nebraska fans *do* care for? 'Cause so far, we've run through Matt Millen, Ed Cunningham, Herbstreit, Mushyburger, and we've historically claimed folks like Bob Davies, Dan Dierdorf, Griese, Keith Jackson, and the frozen head of Walt Disney have all had it in for Nebraska for one reason or another. Just sayin'.
  16. Underrated: Rex Burkhead. Did anyone expect him to bust out runs like he was Helu the 3rd? Underrated: Our receivers. They're making plays that weren't being completed a year ago at this time. Underrated: Our offensive line. They're finally realizing their potential, and they're *damn* young to boot. Underrated: Our special teams. Wisky has a kicker that's gone OoB three times this year on kickoffs, and they aren't the best at the return game. Overrated: Our secondary. Again, don't know if it's the youth, that Marvin Sanders was *that* good, or a mixture thereof, but we're getting burned by Wyoming out there, despite Fonz locking down his side of the field. Unknown: Our D-Line. Think they're a victim of a lack of quality secondary play and vanilla playcalling. We'll see this week for sure. Overblown: Nebraska fan's abhorrence to wearing black at Camp Randall. Really, folks? VA Husker Fan--Fixed name
  17. If anything, I'm more worried about Wisconsin's ability to go airborne and Nebraska's secondary more than anything else. I'm not too terribly worried about Martinez or our O-Line--they can get it done on the ground, and the Okie Lite shootout showed that Martinez has an arm if necessary--plus, I would say we've got better receivers now than we did in that Okie Lite game. Also, Nebraska is better on special teams. Our kicker/punter has routinely pinned teams deep and sent kickoffs out of the end zone--the Wisconsin kicker has trouble staying inside the lines on kickoffs, and they've had problems w/punting and their return game to boot. If anything, our special teams may be worth a hidden 3-7 points in this game--enough to negate homefield advantage.
  18. Thanks for the kind words, FBis. Always liked Barry Alvarez (was probably the only person in the whole country that liked his Fox BCS broadcasting attempt a few years back), and glad to see that Wisconsin is following the Nebraska blueprint to success. Fans do need to deluge Delaney for what is his only mistake in putting Wisconsin (and, subsequently, Michigan) in the wrong division. If there's ever expansion to 14 teams, Wisconsin fans and Alvarez need to push hard to be put in our division--I could see a yearly NU/Wisky tilt becoming just as big as the NU/OU tilt back in the day.
  19. And Lushberger may not be in Lincoln for the Nebraska/tOSU tilt. My understanding is that we won't be the only ABC game offered in the evening timeslot next week, which (if I understand the Big 10 TV deal correctly) puts the possibility of a non-reverse mirror game into play. Hope I'm wrong.
  20. I'm sure the crutches and boot help Rex score with the ladies. GSG should try it. It might actually work for him. I tried using an iron lung once. It might have been a slight overkill. Mr. Frump, I presume?
  21. I'm sure the crutches and boot help Rex score with the ladies.
  22. Yes, but my understanding is that you have to Roshambo the fans for their shirts now.
  23. This. Add Memorial Stadium to the list of things the Baby Boomers are ruining as they get older. I kid...somewhat.
  24. I had one of my best visiting stadium trips in College Station, the night where Frankie pulled a win out of his keester during the 4th quarter. Good fans, good food, and frankly, there's no reason for the visitors to not get in on their songs--they are all pointed directly at Texas, after all. Problem is, last years events really soured me on A&M fans and the program as a whole. That whole debacle last year left a bad taste in my mouth, especially after A&M fans acted as if they weren't given anything in that game and that their defensive players were sweet angels in the scrums. Had we seen some A&M fans stand up and say the right thing, or at the very least, admit they were the recipients of a decidedly one-sided officiating crew, then perhaps I could forgive and forget. But to be placed on third base by the officials and brag that you hit a triple...sorry, just doesn't wash with me.
  25. Pretty much what Knapplc said, save for the mixed feelings. Fans pretty much realized that stability trumped tradition, bottom line. Most Nebraska fans have been able to compartmentalize our sorrow for losing our traditional games because the practicality of the environment dictates that we do so and move on. Perhaps when we square off against a former Big XII foe in a bowl game (for the next two decades or so, bowls with those ties will likely try to prey on our appreciation for nostalgia and tradition in making matches), Nebraska fans can sit down and truly lament the passing of what was some of the most significant history in college football because of Texas' unmitigated greed and hubris. And Mizzoo, don't worry--Mizzou will land on its feet, likely in the SEC as their 14th. If Mizzou can find success in the SEC, they will ultimately have the last laugh on Texas, and perhaps we'll meet in a bowl game or Big 10/SEC non-con matchup down the road.
