  1. I whole-hardheartedly second this. Verizon FiOS HDTV is second to none, and once they get all of the boxes in the wild upgraded to MP4 capability, the first iteration of compression will occur and even more HD channels will be added. Plus, their 35/35Mbps service is perfect for streaming Netflix or ESPN 3 via the PC or XBox 360. And Verizon is still planning on building out anywhere they're the LEC, regardless of who the competition is--their main concern is funding, which has dried up with the economy in it's current state. But since FiOS is providing sufficient ROI for now, this is a temporary setback per Verizon's CEO. In other words, Denver will have FiOS, but it may be a year or two, at least...
  2. Please--if they would have ever realized that, we wouldn't be celebrating our switch to the B1G right now.
  3. Folks--simply emailing Time Warner won't work. Switch to Dish or DirecTV, and when you cancel your Time Warner and they ask why, THEN tell them you're leaving because of the Big 10 Network/Time Warner problem. Actually headed back up to God's country to say with relation, and I'll be switching my 90 yo Grandmother off of Time Warner and on to Dish or DirecTV (per her son's request) for this very reason. Bottom line, folks--Time Warner doesn't give a **** until it impacts their bottom line.
  4. Man, this game looks good, despite the stupid ratings. *looks at wallet* *looks at screen* *looks at wallet again* FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
  5. Substitute Texas for Michigan, Oklahoma for Nebraska, and remove 'fans', and you've just created a post summing up each program's football history. Just thought I'd share.
  6. Michigan: 37% Nebraska: 63% Total Votes: 336,049(!) Apparently Nebraska has better hackers.
  7. I'd plank her. Wait wut? Huh? Wet pine? Planking? F**k it all, I knew I shouldn't have skipped woodshop class in high school.
  8. There was more than message board fodder, Knapplc. Remember the tide of angry messages to $ Bill when they announced their decision to take the $20 million and stay...some of which $ Bill answered back and got in trouble for? It was more than interweb speculation, but folks are right in saying there was a hurdle in the Texas State Legislature (the same governing body which saddled the Big XII with Baylor...). However, it was discussed down here that if aTm could present a case where it showed improvement to aTm and that the other Texas schools would be fine otherwise (remember--this was when Texas was looking west to the Pac-10), they would have no choice other than to let aTm leave. What was the biggest impediment to a SEC move, and the proverbial last straw for the older Aggie set, was Texas' promise of never playing aTm again during the regular season if they went to the SEC. Younger Aggie fans could care less about losing the Texas game, as most of those games have been losses to them. The older fans, thought, remember a time when Texas was routinely and thoroughly stomped on by aTm.
  9. This. And A&M will continue to rattle the SEC sabre in upcoming Big XII politics any time they don't get their way to maintain their happiness--just look at the Beebe $20 million hush money--OU and UT 'magnanimously' gave it up (because Beebe grossly overestimated they could get full exit fees from Nebraska and Colorado), and A&M reminded Beebe in the media they have a SEC option if they don't get their promised $20 million. Kum-ba-ya indeed. And don't listen to the ShaggyBevo twits--the SEC would take A&M in a heartbeat, if for no other reason it adds a major media market to their footprint Houston) and makes south Texas wide open for SEC recruiting--not unlike how the Big 10 footprint, which we had tough sledding in before, is now opening up to Nebraska recruiting. Mind you, even the suggestion of A&M's move would potentially set off Conference Armageddon II - Electric Boogaloo, which is the only reason anyone will take A&M serious about said rattling, and why A&M will be pacified for a long while.
  10. That Nebraska fans are fully aware of the irony of offering a cooked cabbage product in a stadium with less-than-adequate bathroom facilities.
  11. I don't see what the big deal is with Cody Green going to KSU--KSU is a sub .500 football program with little for future prospects and will ultimately be hampered by having to suckle at Bevo's teat for funding. Cody Green is going to a place where he can shine so his future aspirations (which likely include the NFL) get a chance. Unless you QB at USC, it's rare for a second or third string QB to be considered a draft prospect. Being the first string QB for a perennial sub .500 program who gets them to a bowl game again--that's hero material that gets you noticed by the pundits. That's all this is--a way for Cody to have a chance. And frankly, Cody hasn't done anything wrong in his stay in Lincoln--let's just wish him well and move on.
  12. I agree--good insight and level-headed comments in this thread. If Dr. Tom has said that Doc gets to coach in and recruit to the new facilities, then I expect Dr. Tom to take him at his word. But I wouldn't be shocked if Dr. Tom already has a short list for replacement coaches filed away. Also, does the buzz about Doc being looked at for the A&M program help him in any way? A&M has perhaps the second or third best Big XII basketball program right now (behind Kansas and whomever rotates for second--Texas, KSU, Mizzou), so wouldn't the A&M program taking a look at Doc Saddler imply that they think Doc is a quality coach...and also backhandedly imply that Nebraska is under-utilizing Doc?
  13. Agreed, though they won't come from Bo or Dr. Tom directly, but assistant ADs/coaches, former players, and (less likely) Harvey the Wonder Chancellor. --- And Knapplc--you're right about the quantity of derp increasing in the near future. Perhaps you could turn this thread into a 'derp' sticky for folks to link the latest and greatest derp/Big XII revisionist history to (and re-title accordingly)?
  14. Linky link link. Of note: This is why Barfy of the OWH can go f**k himself about stopping the hate parade on Texas, et al--frankly, if we do stop, then Dodd's minions of Beebe, Tramel, et al will deluge us with so much revisionist derp that people are going to take their account of events as gospel. And since we're a hair's breadth away from living in an idiocracy, any misinformation repeated enough times will be taken as gospel by the lay man--in this case, that Nebraska was a curmudgeon that wanted the other ten whipper-snappers off it's lawn. Nebraska isn't Texas--Nebraska simply can't buy their way out of bad press (a la their ESPN deal). And since Nebraska did everything for the right reasons, no one within the confines of the state that is a sports journalist should take a powder on this. Just remember that Brawndo's got electrolytes, and this message is brought to you by Carl's Jr.
  15. This is legit--I remember something to this effect came out when everyone was ready to jettison Frank, as people came to the conclusion that Dr. Tom's consideration of external offers meant he stepped down in '97 for reasons other than those he gave--namely, that Dr. Tom had promised the helm of the 'Huskers to Frank, and Frank was getting itchy to coach. Mind you, this line of thought was floating out there back in '02 and '03 as a way to blame Frank for the (then) downfall, before the program was eventually 'Callahaned'. Don't think it's legit, but it was floating out there in the ether, FWIW.
  16. Anyone know of a good tool that will let me convert iTunes movies and music to formats the Android can play? Looking to get a new Evo 4G, but all my media is iTunes-based.

    1. 808Husker in KCMO
    2. carlfense

      carlfense

Handbrake is awesome (and free) for videos.

      Thanks Carlfense--I'll look it up.

808 Husker, I looked at DoubleTwist, and it appears it works fine w/audio, but it doesn't do video (e.g. digital movie copies) unless it's a podcast.

Of course, if I'm mistaken in this belief, please educate me. :)

  17. Amazon has the Evo 4G right now for $.01. FYI. Amazon Wireless
  18. I started serious gaming on the computer and, like you, couldn't play console fps shooters for the longest time. Once I hit college console games became far more convenient. I had a great desktop computer at home that did really well with video games, but even though I got a "gaming" laptop it couldn't quite handle the better video games out there so I lost touch with steam. Now that I have a better desktop again I play a lot of good games with ease. A few games I'd recommend that are relatively cheap: Day of Defeat: Source Torchlight (if you're into top-down fighting games like Diablo) Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 Natural Selection 2 - This is one of the more interesting fps's out there because it also involves some real time strategy. It pits a group of marines versus a group of aliens and each team has a commander responsible for several duties. You have to capture resources areas as foot soldiers/aliens and build resource extractors. The more resources you have the more things you can do (i.e. Marines can research better weapons, teleport technologies, etc.). Eventually who ever takes down the enemy commanding chair wins. Unfortunately this game is in beta testing right now so it isn't available just yet unless you're ready to pay full price for the game.. I've had it since Alpha testing and it's come a long way, though. Torchlight FTW. And yes, I have Steam, though I have been busy trying to coax my sans-graphics card PC along playing "The Witcher" via GoG.
  19. LMAO, nice find. 4Chan FTW, save for /b/, which is just a cesspool.
  20. By the way, anyone else disappointed that we don't have any earlier games (like *ahem* a certain game o' the century?) from Nebraska's first NC run? I would think that showing TGoTC wouldn't be an issue--it originated on ABC, and wouldn't Nebraska own half of that broadcast? Also, I'm hoping there's footage somewhere that the BTN can unearth regarding Devaney's win at Michigan that helped put Nebraska on the map. While TGoTC established our dominance and championship caliber, it was Devaney's win @ Michigan (IIRC) that got then lowly Nebraska on the radar of many a sportswriter.
  21. This. And may I add that when in and around Memorial Stadium, I do act with class and decorum. How I act in person when representing Nebraska as a fan is different than how I truly feel. At the end of the '08 VT game, I just wanted to show my disdain, but quickly realized nothing but negativity for the fans would come from it, so I instead bought VT fans a round at Duffy's. But that still doesn't mean that Texas can collectively go do something anatomically impossible to themselves, and it doesn't mean we need a lecture from Barfy, the perpetual 'Husker apologist. Until Nebraska fans, en masse, do something in poor taste (e.g. boo-birding the kids in Lincoln), Barfy needs a huge helping of STFU. And until Texas does right by the boys that played for Nebraska in 2009, f**k those tea-sipping sons and daughters of whores in Austin.
  22. Congrats, Sir. Represent us well!
  23. Apparently the troll is stuffed, as he changed/removed his bio and information. So I suppose trolls aren't the Joey Chestnut's of attention...whowouldathunk?
  24. Thanks for the link, Eric. BTW, if you're on the other 11 baseball teams in the B1G, and you've heard about Erstad, Bolt, and now Silva being hired on at Nebraska, are you pooing your drawers at this point, or will it take a few years before they poo when they see Nebraska on the schedule?
  25. I don't have to imagine it, it already exists. If the University of Nebraska didn't have such a great football program we'd be just like Iowa State. Fixed for accuracy.
