  1. I'll be there! Let me know if you need any info about tailgating, etc!
  2. Here's hoping he has as good a game as he did last year I like Culbert and feel that he can be a Major (pun intended) force at whatever position he plays, as long as he gets to stay there more than a year! Good luck to you MC!
  3. I've got to agree with a lot of what has been said. I don't think that Ruud or McKeon have lost their starting jobs yet, but in my opinion, it seems they are aware they won't lose them. Competition and pressure for playing time from those behind you on the depth chart make any player better. They just seem complacent to me. Poor positioning, lack of hustle, poor tackling technique...all were blatantly exposed in the SC game. Get some of the youner guys on the field, whether it's 20 plays a game or 10, just get them out there and see what happens. We will have mop up time against both Ball St and Iowa St, PLEASE get some of our new talent on the field and let them tear it up or show us why they stay on the sideline. On a totally different note, has anyone else noticed that Marlon Lucky disappears in the big games? To me it seems to be a confidence thing. Against teams that he feels he / we are clearly better than, he runs aggressivly, decisively, and always upfield plowing. Against the USC, OK, etc he is tentative and "dances" a lot more. He goes down after the first contact, slips, stumbles, etc! In the game with SC he just danced around too much, never cut up immediately or hit the hole quickly. It was obvious after the very 1st quarter that he would be ineffective as a runner. At that point I would've loved to see Glenn and Castille take over all the carries. The rushing total would've been the same, most likely, but the difference would've come from their punishing style of run. It wears a defense down when the running back is looking to make the hit on YOU and not the other way around. Just my two cents
  4. Oops sorry! Didn't see this posted on previous thread.
  5. "LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Nebraska guard Andy Christensen will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee against Southern California, coach Bill Callahan said Monday. Christensen was hurt on the Cornhuskers' second offensive series when he was blocking downfield on a shovel-pass play. Mike Huff replaced Christensen and likely will start against Ball State on Saturday. Christensen started eight of 14 games last season after sitting out 2005 with a shoulder injury. Callahan said cornerback Zackary Bowman, who limped to the sidelines in the second quarter and didn't return, is OK and will play against the Cardinals." Per SI.com
  6. I was there, too, JSG! I already posted this on another thread, but I was very impressed with Reesing and the KU offense. It seemed like Mangino finally got some of his key positions filled to show off the offensive guru tag he's been carrying all this time. I can't wait for this game in Lawrence, already have the tickets, and the wife is KU / NU splitter!
  7. I went to the KU game this last weekend and their kicker put several in the end zone, maybe 4? On a side note, KU's Reesing (QB) is a very nice upgrade from the position last year. He played very sharp, missed very few throws, and made some great plays with his legs. Overall their offense looked very well tuned and dangerous than any KU offense in recent memory. Their defense didn't look that great, although they stopped the team they were facing. I'm more worried about KU than I was Friday night, to say the least.
  8. I'd be perfectly happy with the song played in that YouTube clip. It had the desired effect on me, goose bumps and an overwhelming desire to see the Huskers take the field. Two thumbs up
  9. I don't have much to offer in suggestions, except let him soak it all in! Make sure you make him aware of any "crowd traditions" so that he really feels that he is a part of the "team"! That is what I will always remember about Husker games as a child: even tho I was just a small child I was apart of something BIG and RED! GBR!
  10. I think we win by 17 points. Like others have said, close to start, but steadily wear them down until the game is ours to control. Their defense loses too many key players to be at the point they need to be to compete with us. Later in the year the game is closer, in my opinion, but not second game.
  11. I have to admit, towards the end of last season I was very much on the side of the Grixby bashers. After the season, when the heat of moment had died down, I realized that if he was on the field he was the best option we had at the time. On top of that, the more I rewatched the games I realized that a lot of the blame fell on the schemes we were forced to use. Routinely our corners were 10 yards off the line of scrimmage preventing the deep ball while teams just used comebacks and out routes over and over and over.... ahh the nightmares are coming back! Make the bad man stop mommy!
  12. I thought the article was pretty accurate, in a humorous format. The upgrade in record was pretty funny. From an opposing fanbase, and with humor intended, I thought it was a great read.
  13. More and more pieces fall into place everyday...
  14. My recommendations would be simple: Keep your eyes and ears open. Soak in the environment and the overall mood. I've visited lots of stadiums and been to lots of games, I rarely remember the name of the restaurant or where I stayed, but I always the remember the feel of the people and area. I remember how friendly or unfriendly the tailgaters around me were, how beautiful the environment is or isn't, and what the pulse in the air felt like. In my opinion there are few places where you can really feel the pulse of the people all around you like you can in Lincoln, heading towards the stadium just before the game. Also, I know you're an Aggie fan, but just try to make yourself a Husker for the few minutes that the Tunnel Walk plays out. I've found it's exhilerating for fans of all teams if you get into it Enjoy the game, Aggie, I'm sure you will enjoy the fun regardless of outcome.
  15. That's exactly what I thought when I was reading that. Since when is Iowa State a marquee victory? Other than that, I think it's a pretty fair assessment. Our QB pipeline is fairly well stocked with quality players with some time to contribute to and develop in the program. Only issue I see is it's possible the next 3 years (including this one) we will most likely have 3 different starting QBs. Sam Keller this year, Ganz / Witt / Lee next year, and Gabbert after his RS year. But that's just how I see it.
  16. I agree with a previous poster: Once we get a receiver or two into the NFL, most talent will see us as springboard for them. I think the first to go will be Mo Purify with possibly Nunn going in a later round. That will get the attention of receivers around the country. I mean any team competing against us in a recruiting battle can simply say, "When was the last time a WR went to the NFL from Nebraska?"
  17. Time can't go fast enough! Luckily we are in the part of the preseason that provides daily reading material! GBR!
  18. Interesting read and perspective. However, I'll take the guy with best mechanics, strong arm, and ability to make all the key throws for our WCO offense. We don't really need a scrambler, by the time it gets to scrambling the play is already broken anyways. And I agree with the above poster, Gabbert behind a stocked OL is something to look forward to.
  19. The reason Culbert was moved to RB, and not Prince, is the fact that Culbert was already here to take the reps. Prince just got into camp and so is already behind the curve compared to Culbert. But again, I feel that if one of the other running backs passes Culbert on the depth chart he will be back at Safety. Just my impression from the articles and snippets I've read.
  20. I don't believe that Castille will get much PT this year, if any. Although he is physically imposing I don't see him breaking up throught the depth chart. The speed and physicality of the game is usually such a drastic change for these young guys that it's usually easiest for the tracksters and burners to break into PT. However, I can see him being used much like Cody Glenn his Freshman year: 3rd and 1 from the 1! POW I think Adi will have the largest impact, simply because the position is so wide open. He will be doing kickoffs and our long field goals. If it's not Adi, I think it will be Prince or Mendoza as specialist returners. Prince has lots of experience and a highlight reel of kick and punt returns. Mendoza has that breakaway speed and amazing agility that really is needed for special teams. Just my opinion
  21. Yes, Prince had an article stating he wanted to be in a position to get his hands on the ball. To answer the original posters question: I believe that Culbert has previous RB experience (HS) which is why he is being utilized there. He's more of a stop gap and I see him being moved back to defense sometime the season. I think he gets moved as soon as one of the young backs proves they can fill his spot. Prince is being kept at CB instead of RB, imo, because next year we definitely aren't going to need him there. We will have Gray / Okafor coming in, Castille / Mendoza / Helu having one year of experience under their belt. At that point our CB position will need his experience with Jones and Grixby graduating this year. This seems like a logical depth progression, to me, at least.
  22. I believe Nebraska can win the Big 12. As several others have stated, our first 3 games will set the tone for the season. I think Nevada should be a fairly easy win. Although Nevada is no slouch I don't think they are a Husker caliber team, they fall by two touchdowns. Wake Forest isn't as serious a threat as they would've been if the game was played last year. Their defense, which keyed their success, is largely depleted. Then there is USC. A win against USC fuels an undefeated season, at least until the Big 12 CCG. If we lose badly, I see us struggling again vs the South teams. If we lose but keep it close I see us being competitive with anyone in the conference, but with the chance of the game going either way. In any case I feel that we beat all the North teams, beat A&M away from home, Texas could go either way. Just my opinion
  23. I'd like to see Amakamura or Mendoza back their on returns, some real burners.
  24. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/foot...e.ap/index.html Not really that serious, but funny to read if you think about the fact that this is the QB controversy we could be all be poring over this offseason.
  25. I don't really see tearing down the goal posts as an overtly positive or negative thing. I don't see how us celebrating and tearing down the goal posts would be a negative hit for us. It doesn't look bad on TV if a team tears down goal posts after defeating #1 team in nation, unless winning team is ranked in top 10 as well. Really doesn't make us seem classless, not like we are rubbing it in the face of USC or taunting them, I mean heck, it's our goal posts, not theirs. That's the only negative aspect I see, it costs us more money! But hey, I'm sure the athletic dept would shell out the $5k to fix the posts in exchange for a victory over USC!
