  1. Really hope this isn't seriously intended for Bo to read himself. If I'm bo.. if I make it past the first accusatory tone of the first paragraph, i'm definitely done by the time I'm called a douche. If the author seriously wanted Bo to read this I would think they could come up with a little more diplomatic tone. There's some good points in here all of which have been discussed at length in the media and discussion boards over the course of this season. I see nothing original or of any value in this honestly. Just another summary identical to several I've seen around the boards lately. Nothing new.
  2. The defense has indeed improved. There are definitely some mental/psychological issues with the team that weren't all caused by Martinez's lacidazical leadership. Ameer Abdullah is a stud.. first 100 yard rusher against MIch. St. this year. Armstrong is indeed a freshman. Beck's play calling is still infuriorating. An option pitch to 3rd string freshman RB goes awry early in the game and we never run it again. Also there was a while there where we were slinging the ball all over the place with Armstrong never coming close to being on target, if you wanna do that put in RK3 it is not TA's strong suit. Also.. 2 weeks in a row we've put RK3 in for the 3rd-4th series when TA was doing well. Today? Armstrong is struggling and they never put in RK3. I don't understand that. My thinking that the last 2 weeks were giving us all false hope unfortunately turned out to be correct.. well half correct. I thought our defensive improvements were a mirage, but we really do seem to have improved. Offense/special teams are still a disaster.
  3. The stunned looks of our players on the sidelines... i've seen this before..
  4. Do we see RK3 now? This is usually about the time yeah?
  5. why do you try to field that westerkamp?? lucky you were ruled down!
  6. fumble, interception, 3 and out. hey at least the defense is looking good
  7. espn stats showed Biggs having 1 assist. did he get in the game at the end?? or was that just an espn error?
  8. Bo's "signature" wins: 2008 - maybe the win over clemson in the bowl game 2009 - MIzzou #24, OU #20, Arizona #22 (shutout). However; If we consider ourselves a top 25 team, then wins against rank 25-20 teams shouldn't be 'signature', although the shutout was impressive. 2010 - Okie State #17, Mizzou #7. 2011 - Mich St. #9, Penn St. #12 2012 - Michigan #20. again not sure win over #20 should be 'signature'. 2013 - none so far So 2010-2011 were the best in terms of quality wins. 2009 we had a dominant defense but no offense. 2010 we still had a decent defense with a new explosive offense w/ freshman Martinez. Of course we all remember what happened at A&M, then against OU and Washington to finish off that season. I think the conclusion to the 2010 season was the turning point in Bo's career here (so far). We had been in the top 10 most of the year and then that A&M game kinda broke our backs. Sure we picked up a couple of quality wins against Mich St. and Penn St. in 2011, but wasn't the Penn St. win right after the whole Sandusky thing? The Mich St. game was certainly quality though. Regardless I think our confidence took a big hit with the way we finished off 2010, and our defense has been on a steep and steady decline since. It is a bit hard to see some of our former Big 12 competition having a lot of success... A&M, Mizzou, Baylor, Texas Tech, Oklahoma St, Oklahoma are all currently ranked. I dunno what that says other than that since 2010 they've gotten better and we've gotten worse. So.. where are we at now? Haven't seen a signature win since 2011. Michigan State is our only shot left this year during the regular season... post-season could provide chance(s). A win over a quality opponent in a bowl game would be good.. and if we somehow win out and made it to the B10 championship game and somehow beat Ohio State that would be the kind of win that could turn everything around (and likely save coaches jobs). I'm not very optimistic though, I see us losing a couple more games, and getting a mediocre bowl opponent. Assuming we don't have a miraculous conclusion to the season.. where do we go from here? That would be 3 years in a row without a 'signature' win whilst racking up a few 'signature' losses. I think Bo's non-coaching successes may buy him another year to turn things around (probably with a mandate of a new coordinator or two), looking a bit like Solich's 2005-2006. But, maybe he'll be gone at the end of this year. I think that will depend on the nature of Shawn Eichorst who is still somewhat of an unknown quantity. I don't think Eichorst is the type to pay much attention to the short bursts of fans' calling for Bo's job or to be eager to put his own signature on the program (ala Pederson). But, I also think that with the way this season has gone that there almost surely have been some feelers sent out to gauge interest. So it may come down to that. Does Eichorst feel the right guy is out there and available this year? Where does he fall in preference for a new coach? A nebraska guy through and through? A proven commodity looking for a place with a higher ceiling? A young up and comer from the lower ranks? A proven NFL guy wanting to take a stab at the college game? Okay I've typed way more than I meant to lol. I'll leave you with this: we are still currently a 2 loss (1 loss conference) team. The rest of our schedule is still nowhere near as tough as we've seen in the past. How we finish is likely to have a pretty big impact on what happens. We could win out, I don't think there's much chance of losing out... but here's the key: 4 losses. We get there with 2 more losses + a bowl win, 1 loss and a bowl loss, or winning out and losing CCG and Bowl.
  9. +8000 isn't on papuchis being fired, it's on him being nebraska's head coach next year. xD
  10. This team is in shambles... I think we're looking at a 2007-style collapse in the works
  11. VV also got benched. Also Spencer Long is out...
  12. First of all.. not sure this is the right forum to put this, but none of the other forums seemed applicable... so move/delete this mods if wrong place. I'm going to be unable to watch the game on Saturday and unable to DVR it. But, I do have access to BTN2GO. I'm not sure how it works for replays of games... after the game is over on TV will it be available for viewing on BTN2GO? Or will it only be available the next day? Or will it not be available there at all?
  13. You know another possibility would be that the plan going in was to give each backup QB a couple of series to see how they do, and then go from there.
  14. Well this is great.. put the freshman QB in his first start into a shootout against an FCS school.... my god.
  15. 'eh... moot point. if he was fired, this recording would not be the stated reason for termination.
  16. Wasn't loyalty one of the things we criticised Callahan for? His refusal to fire his buddy Cosgrove?
  17. we didn't used to just win games, we used to punish our competition...that hunger and pride is long gone.... and when NU went down in defeat it used to be fighting all the way and punishing the opponent. Even when NU lost (which was 2 times a year on average) under Osborne --- they went down not because they were unfocused, unmotivated, out-hustled or were lacking in intensity. They were focused, intense, violent, well-prepared and went down against better foes that day. No dishonor in that. If the current NU team was like that... hair on fire intense every play all game irrespective of score --- if they played with focus and were violent, giving all on every play every game and finished with 5 or 6 losses a season I would be satisfied and never complain. The record is not the point. How the team plays --- that is the point. So... under Bo, the point (at least for me) is not that they have failed to be a champion of anything... or that they failed to do well record-wise against good foes. It is that the team has been (and seemingly continues to be) poorly prepared, lacking in drive, non-physical (relative to where they should be), generally non-intense, poorly coached and lacking in focus. That is, to me, a dishonorable way to lose (or win --- as the Wyoming game is an example... NU played w/o intensity, focus or drive but won because their foe was simply wildly over-matched by talent deficit relative to NU). NU picks up some uninspired wins this way... and that is not worth accolades at all. So, when NU lost games under TO, they only lost to "better teams". 1981--#7 NU lost to an unranked Iowa. 1984--#1 NU lost to an unranked Syracuse 1986--#3 NU lost to an unranked Colorado 1990--#10 NU lost to an unranked Oklahoma (by 35) 1992--#7 NU lost to an unranked Iowa State (the ultimate sleep walking loss) 1993--#6 NU goes down to the wire against unranked Kansas (winning when KU missed a 2-pt conversion in last minute of game) 1994--#2 NU almost lost to unranked Wyoming (Benning said the team was not focused for that game) 1997--#6 NU plays Central Florida very close (bringing boos against Scott Frost) Yes, the lack of focus about Bo's teams are concerning, but don't act like NU played every game lights out under Tom Osborne. There are plenty of games under TO, where the team came out flat, and the team had close games or even lost. edit: nevermind
  18. I remember during the offseason hearing a lot about how good the defense was going to be because of how well they were doing against our offense in practice/scrimmage. Is it possible that part of the problem is having our defense practicing against our offense too much and thinking that going against our 'multiple' offense will prepare them for everything? How effective is our scout team and how much is it actually used in preparing the defense? It would seem to me that since we keep getting beat up by the same types of things (motion, misdirection, etc..) that having the scout team running those kinds of things over and over against the defense would help us prepare for it. I might be wrong, but I really wonder how much they are actually practicing against what other teams are actually doing and how much they are just running against our offense and thinking that will prepare them for anything. In the end our offense does a lot of different things, but going up against a team that does one thing really well is a whole different deal and seeing our offense do it a little bit just isn't the same as practicing specifically against a certain style.
  19. I really think Miles is saving every single body he can for next season. We also know the kid needs a year of S&C Pretty sure he already burned his redshirt so not quite sure why Miles may be saving him. The kid obviously needs to hit the weights but no more than rivers who is currently playing the 4 depending who's on the court. Atleast Vucetic is 5-6 inches taller. I am trying to remember what game I saw him in as well. Unless he just isn't worth a darn and our walk ons are superior to him. Might just be letting him ride the pine until he transfers next season? He got in at the end of the Ohio St. game IIRC.
  20. No. We definitely cannot, because it is.. and it has been. Albeit slowly.
  21. I do not agree. We have a lot of young coaches... We will be better in time. AA's timely fumble as well as other things out of the coach's control occured. It was a frustrating game that Nebraska should have won. We had them wore out and driving and we fumble... Do you make this same post if we had not fumbled and won? If we hadn't fumbled we'd have won? You're deluding yourself! We were gassed! Georgia had complete control from the end of the 3rd quarter on.
  22. Hah! If we couldn't get good recruits after Suh/Amukamara/Hagg/Gomes success here, how do you think we're gonna pull them in now? We aren't. We are stagnant. Now begins the gradual decline until people are fed up with it and we make the change that needs to happen.
