  1. Maybe the situations are different but this happens in baseball all the time. But like I said it could be different since baseball isn't even allowed enough scholarships to field a full team of starters.
  2. This. Go back and watch Crick on the play with 4:24 left in the 4th. Doesn't move his left arm the entire play and almost doubles over in pain.
  3. I do have experience signing a LOI to play baseball for University of (insert name here) and all athletes sign a waiver that allows the university, the conference, and the NCAA to use their image. Whether or not it said "for profit" I can't quite remember but is there really any other reason for using the image? And yes I'm still an NCAA athlete and football players need to worry about money a lot less than baseball players. (In reply to some people saying they struggle with necessities because they don't have the time for a job.) Main reason is they have a scholarship that pays for everything while baseball has 11.5 scholarships to split among 40 or 50 athletes. Almost no baseball players get a 100% scholarship and we still don't have time to get a job so we really struggle with affording necessities.
  4. It's all in the mowing. It's the same as golf courses.
  5. A 12 or 16 team playoff would add too many games to the schedule for those teams. What some people are forgetting when talking about adding a playoff or there being too much time before the bowls is that these athletes still have finals to take and, ideally, are able to spend some time with family around the holidays. Any plan that has playoffs going on for the majority of December will never come to fruition because of this.
  6. This hit on the screen is the "perfect play" when talking about helmet to helmet on a defenseless player. Let's see if any OSU fans think that guy should be suspended and his eligibility taken away.
  7. My bad, you're correct, it was a 3 score game. If you can't see how we had a different attack with Lee in the game, or Green in the game compared to Martinez, I don't know what to say. Martinez can't run everything the other guys can. He compensates with his feet. Whether that compensation is enough is the big question. I did not say Zac Lee was a good runner. You said he was slow, and I called you out on it. Zac is fast. Not as fast as Taylor, but he's not lumbering. Zac has been good at making the right reads in the zone read, including last season. See the Arizona game. I am just dealing with a reality where Martinez isn't a savior, and Zac Lee doesn't suck, because neither of those (or their opposites) are the truth. Despite the free yards in penalties, Lee did move the ball down the field. Yes it only ended 3 pts, BUT it took almost 3 quarters to get 3 points with Martinez running the show. Im not saying Martinez is a terrible QB, but I think starting as a redshirt freshman in this offense is a mistake. I could give 2 craps how many yards per game or rush he has, he faced a good defense and got stuffed big time. All those other teams had terrible defenses, personally i wouldve surprised to see Martinez run loose against Texas. Ive said this from the start of fall camp. Start Lee, let Martinez come in a get some snaps, whether its at running back, wide receiver, or quarterback. Tell me exactly what Zac Lee does differently in the 1st half that gets us more points? Well he got positive yards everytime he ran the zone read. It may have been 3-4 yards, but thats about 5 yards more than Taylor was getting. 2nd and 6, is a huge difference than 2nd and 9 or 2nd and 12. Lee: 10 attempts for 28 yards 2.8 ypc Martinez: 13 attempts for 39 yards 3.0 ypc I think you forgot include yards lost.... Martinez 13-21 Lee 10-25. This just further proves my point. Regardless Lee did that in 1 quarter, Martinez did that in 3 quarters. Ummm...no. What I forgot was that Lee got 25 yds, not 28. Those rushing numbers are NET. They include yards lost. I think everyone is trying to say that Lee was more efficient as a runner. That's not the case. Lee was also 4-9 for 14 yds as a passer, vs 4-12 for Martinez for 63 yds. So, Lee got 19 plays in which he threw or ran the ball, for 39 yds. Martinez got 25 plays for 102. So the workload was similar, and Martinez was more productive. I didn't see Lee's 'Senior moxie' translating into any more production than TMart's 'deer in the headlights' Player Rush Gained Lost Net YPC Lee 10 25 0 25 2.5 Martinez 13 39 18 21 1.6 Just to clarify, these are the actual stats.
  8. Actually they do get permission. Before they can ever step foot on a field, athletes sign something along the lines of their school, conference, and the NCAA can use their image for marketing purposes. So, do video games really fall under the umbrella of "marketing purposes?" EA Sports doesn't make a video game in order to advertise for real football games on Saturdays. They do so for their own profit. If players have given permission to use their likeness in a video game, why hasn't EA Sports gone ahead and put names on the back of jerseys? Why is my quarterback's name still "QB #3?" Technically I think video games would fall under it. Basically the NCAA owns that image and can use it for pretty much anything is how I always interpreted it. As far as the names on jerseys go, I've never fully understood why they couldn't do that but have always heard it had something to do with amateurism. Anything that has to do with the NCAA and amateur status is always cloudy to me.

  10. What doesn't seem right to me is that with Lee's experience and the fact that he was the starter last year (while injured), he would be given a slight edge going into the competition. Which would mean that for someone to take his spot they would need to be leaps and bounds better than him. With the playing time that he got (mop-up duty) it leads me to believe that Green and Martinez were that much better than him. Point being that the competition couldn't have been that close between all 3 qb's which is all we heard throughout the summer and fall. Based on what we saw during the WKU game, the only real competition was between Green and Martinez.
  11. My parents went to France about 3 years ago and ran into some Husker fans over there. Of course they were from Nebraska and just vacationing but to find them in another country is pretty crazy.
  12. Kind of a coincidence but my oldest son who is a senior in HS plays 3rd and pitches. My 6 year old plays the pitcher position in T ball. Supposed to have a tourney this weekend if it doesnt snow. Is he the one that plays at Carl Albert? I think remember someone on here saying their kid played at CA. And keep your younger one at pitcher, it's the best position on the field. This year was supposed to be my senior year at Wayne State but had surgery on my elbow earlier this month that is going to keep me out for the year.
  13. 1. 95 Orange Bowl - Only 5 years old so don't exactly remember the game, only from the many times I have watched it on tape since. Main reason it was #1 is because it was Dr. Tom's first national championship. 2. 98 Orange Bowl - Can definitely remember this one and I'll never forget Dr. Tom's farewell speech after the game. Husker football is something that my family takes great pride in and even at a young age it was something that was very special to me. Growing up I was told all kinds of stories about Osborne which made a special day for me. 3. 01 Oklahoma - After being at the 00 game in Norman and thinking that we were going to destroy everyone after taking a 14-0 lead, it was sweet revenge to take down OU in Lincoln. And the "play" was one of the craziest I have seen Memorial Stadium. 4. 09 Oklahoma - Loudest I can ever remember hearing Memorial Stadium for an entire game. I love defense and watching our defense play that game was amazing. With all the talk of a collapse our defense stepped up that game as if to say they wouldn't let this team collapse. 5a. 08 Colorado - The "kick" was another of the craziest I have ever seen Memorial Stadium. 5b. 09 Big XII Championship - It was amazing to watch our defense absolutely disrupt Texas all night and to have that feeling back when I watched the clock hit :00 and celebrate like we had won. Also probably one of the worst feelings when it was all taken away with the :01 being put back on and the kick going through.
  14. Actually it wasn't possible. There were 2 seconds left on the clock before that last play, therefore scoring, getting an onside kick, and scoring again was completely impossible
  15. Watch it again. I don't think the receiver has his helmet off. There is no way to know that the receiver is hurt at that point . . . all Asante knew is that he just blew a play up. It was not nearly as dirty or classless as the late hitting that Oklahoma kept getting flagged for. (Now if Asante knew that the player was hurt it would be a different story.) And no, Asante is not the biggest self-promoter on the team. I think that title so far has to go to Eric Martin based on his on-field antics. However, Martin does seem to back it up . . . and for that matter so does Asante. And if you keep watching, they have the camera on Asante when the player gets up to leave the field, he has his helmet off and is applauding that the player was ok.
