  1. Love what Lee did in the first half...especially two or three times getting rid of the ball to avoid a sack without grounding or throwing into danger...I always thought that was one thing Ganz could've done better...
  2. I'll take issue with that. Last year, the ACC had a 15-13 record against non-con BCS+Mountain West opponents. That's behind only the Mountain West (10-5) and the PAC-10 (13-11). And that PAC-10 record is fraudulent when you consider how poorly they performed against the WAC. During 2007, the ACC went 15-8 against non-con BCS opponents, which was by far the best non-con BCS record of the BCS conferences. The ACC also played one of the toughest non-con BCS schedules, their non-con BCS opponents went 174-117 on the year. That's second only in toughness to the PAC-10. I still think the SEC and Big 12 are superior, but I think it's a mistake to put them in the same category at the bottom with the Big East and Big Ten.
  3. And they'll be right. This is an extremely young team with a lot of new starters that hasn't done anything yet. If we want to be part of the "national conversation" we have to beat a ranked team at some point. FAU and Ak St. mean nothing. A close loss may be better than getting blown out and may demonstrate improvement from the Callahan era, but it doesn't mean were part of the conversation. What did the close losses during the Cal era to UT for example mean? Nothing. I love how everyone spent the last 5 years complaining about how ESPN doesn't give the Huskers any credit while simultaneously complaining about how terrible we are under Callahan. We start winning big games and we'll get the credit.
  4. I'm sure VT won't overlook it, but it's interesting that Beamer doesn't mention Lee's superior athleticism to Ganz. Not that Ganz was a statue, but if Zac can make a couple big plays with his feet when no one gets open against that D, it could be the difference in the game from last year.
  5. Does anyone know which announcer that was? I know it was during Missouri-Illinois, but I don't know who was calling the game. I'm hoping it was someone who usually covers the Big Ten...
  6. For those who argue that ESPN hates Nebraska, note that Ivan Maisel and Joe Schad have us #12 and #14, which is higher than I would rank us....the fact is we haven't been challenged yet, we have a new QB and a very young team....until we face a challenging opponent, I'm not gonna take issue with where anyone ranks us...we are a better team than FAU and Ark St, and their ilk, that's all we know for sure at the moment...
  7. My head almost exploded...mostly because I couldn't decide if they were stupid enough to not realize Zac Lee was the QB of a top 25 team or if they were arrogant enough to think Mizzou should be more worried about Robinson.....I couldn't decide which was worse!
  8. Doesnt Matter what you think is fair or not you do not run the program!!!!!!!! Just because this is football doesnt mean there are no rules if you don't want to follow the rules you will have to pay the price. He might not have gotten any warnings or multiple warnings I dont care, he didnt follow the rules and he got booted so be it. These kids are getting a full ride to play ball and follow some simple rules Ohhhh that is really hard. My Highschool baseball coach kicked kids off the team because he saw a picture of the kids with a beer in there hands over the summer. Coach said it is his rules or the highway its up to you if you want to follow the rules are not. Have to remember its a not a right to get to play its a priviledge. You're stating the obvious. Of course it doesn't matter to the program whether any of us think it was fair or not. Doesn't mean it's not worth discussing. Like I said, what we know is that he broke the rules, was warned, and continued to break the rules=dismissal
  9. Here's hoping Zack Bowman can get right too...
  10. We've had plenty of above average degree of difficulty noncon games the past several seasons: home-and-homes against USC and VT, at defending ACC champ WF. I wish the sched was stronger in 2010, but it won't stop me from looking down my nose at other teams...
  11. It's difficult to make a judgment about whether Bo is being too strict when we don't even know what Castille did. How can we know whether the punishment was proportional to the violation? That said, whatever Castille was doing, it at least sounds like he had some warning and a chance to correct it, in which case, if he didn't, I think dismissal would be appropriate.
  12. Seems to me that to "focus on the entirety of the...program," "rationally and realistically," requires examining things, even the things we wished hadn't been done. By questioning the Wikipedia article, the original poster seemed to be suggesting that Christian Peter wasn't all that bad. It is entirely appropriate to respond by explaining why he was that bad. This was not a thread about the overall integrity of the University. It's a thread about Christian Peter. Show me where I said we should ignore the troubles we had, and still have. And when newearth talked about "thugs" he brought up other players, in response to HUSKER 37's comment about Lawrence Phillips. This thread stopped being solely about Christian Peter when those two posts were made. You should focus on the source of the discussion, not me. My reply was directed both at your aversion to detail and those who brought other players into the picture. It was just too much to copy everyone's posts into a reply.
  13. Lots of people. I work in a branch of the legal world, and this happens all the time. It is indicative of nothing. Especially in an old case like this where the evidence required for a criminal conviction is long gone.

  15. This sounds vaguely similar to a certain Burt Reynolds film....
  16. Anyone willing to give a recap of what they said about the Huskers for those of us who missed it?
  17. Note to opposing offensive linemen: If you want to keep all your fingers, keep your hands away from Barry's face!
  18. So what happens? Do they get no points but have to kickoff to the other team. Do they get the ball back at the original spot? Do they get a 1st and 10 from the location of the taunting?
  19. And none of our wins were against the Top 25. That said, I'm surprised to see BYU, Mich St, Cal, and Pitt ahead of us. Thought we might be ahead of GT too. I knew all those teams were sort of in the same zone, but expected us to fall somewhere in the middle of them instead of at the bottom of the pile.... LSU is just inexplicable....
  20. The problem with this "what if" is that if Suh played terrible in our biggest game of the year, I wouldn't want him back as much. In other words, his value to the Huskers and his draft value are directly proportional; the more you want him, the more NFL teams would want him, and vice versa. That said I'll take the Gator Bowl win, which will hopefully have a wide positive effect across the entire team going into next season and on our recruiting, over retaining one player, no matter how good he is.
  21. I have one friend who never really got into following football until a couple years ago, but now thinks he's pretty smart. I don't know how it came up, but I mentioned something about Nebraska's championships in the 70's, and he replied, "Is that the last time Nebraska was really good?" Everyone around had a pretty good laugh...
  22. I don't know if it really has any kind of impact, but I was a little disappointed that our viewership was probably hurt by having the Capital One Bowl kicking off at excactly the same time. Most bowls get a time slot all to themselves. Guess that's the price you pay to play on New Years Day.
  23. Yes, they certainly did, but they were team leaders going into the season, so, I didn't find it much of a surprise that they stepped up the way they did - it would have been surprising if they hadn't. THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!
  24. I think we did move the ball better against OU after Q1 than we did against Clemson, but mainly because the OU game was totally out of reach. So yeah, Clemson's D played us tougher, only because OU didn't have to.
  25. Since posting this Ole Miss and VT have won, and no way are we moving ahead of either. Cincy lost, but they were ranked 12, and lost to a ranked team, I can't see us jumping them. No way we jump Iowa or FSU either. But we can add Georgia Tech to the list of teams we might jump. So it still comes down to whether we jump Northwestern, Mich St., BYU, Pitt, and/or GT. If we jumped all we'd be #22, if we jumped none we'd be #27. I have a feeling Northwestern won't move back much because they played Missouri so tough. I feel confident we jump BYU and Pitt, which would guarantee at least #25, unless the winner of the UConn/Buffalo game moved ahead of us, but this seems unlikely. Bottom line, I think we're battling Mich St. and GT for spots 23-25.
