  1. Have you ever played or watched football before? there were a lot of positives to take from the game yesterday and a lot of teaching tools. The actual talent gap between the top 50 teams in the country is actually pretty small. It comes down to coaching, confidence, teamwork, attitude and execution. If Nebraska would have executed to the best of their abilities yesterday, people would be banging their chests about how great the team is. They are still learning, for God's sake. The cupboard is not bare, it is just uneducated in winning football. Nebraska will win their share of football games this year.
  2. the ACC officials are very good, just like the Big 12 officials. The late hit by Suh would have been called almost 100 percent of the time by any officials in any league. To suggest some kind of bias on a televised game for half the country to see is nothing but blind allegiance. There is a lot of football left to be played.
  3. by that token, nebraska could have gotten curb stomped by the hokies last night were it not for some inspired redzone stands by the defense. silver linings, people: look closely and you'll find them. Hell, there are all kinds of positives to take from this game. I was pretty happy with the defense. They made mistakes and are still learning, but the effort and passion were there. No quit in those kids this year. That is encouraging, and the team will profit from that down the line.
  4. They'll be fine. They'll get 6 or 7 wins an go to a bowl game. they'll probably beat a team they are not supposed to, and proabaly lose a game they shouldn't. Next year they willl be better, and will continue to improve as time goes on. I'm anxious to see how well Pelini dooes as he matures as a head coach. People have to remember, he's learning as he goes, just like the players. Frankly, I'm encouraged by the progress of the team.
  5. What those statistics show is 1) Virginia Tech has a good defense with big, fast, well-coached players and 2) our offensive line is built for the West Coast offense and not for any kind of multiple offense. Our offensive line just isn't very good, and all of the shaved heads and crap on Slauson's face don't scare anyone.
  6. People need to quit blaming the officials, or a couple of deserved penalties, or the wind, or karma, or whatever else for the loss. Nebraska was playing a good football team with big, strong, fast, well-coached players. Nebraska played the first 3 quarters of the game trying to adjust to the speed and strength of VT's players. They also, quite frankly, looked intimidated by VT. But Nebraska is also well coached, at least much better than before. They are still learning. And most importantly, they did not quit. Callahan had 4 years to install his NFL "me first, I don't care about the rest of it" attitude. At least that is disappearing. As for me, I am encouraged by what I watched. I think that, somewhere down the line, Nebraska is going to beat a team that they "aren't supposed to". Then watch out, because the players will start to really believe in themselves. When a team feels like they will win, rather than hope to win, they become really dangerous.
  7. I think what influenced the official was the fact that the VATech kid was about 3 yards out of bounds and on the ground when he got hit. Whether it was intentional or not doesn't matter. Guys, no one paid off the officials nor were they biased. Nebraska simply didn't play well enough to win. We'll give it another shot next week. They didn't give up! They are in shape! They have a great attitude! Sit back and enjoy it.
  8. the score would have been about 51-10. I'm with you...things are much better than last year, and will get better. What I saw was a team that was not sure of themselves, and confidence is everything. As the season goes on, and through next year, the kids will make less and less mistakes and will learn to win big games against good teams.
  9. Well, guys, this was a real defense that we were facing tonight. Big. Fast. Athletic. Talented. Confident. There is going to be a lot of teams in the ACC look a lot worse than we did. Our offensive line is a group of pass blocking specialists brought in by Callahan for the prissy West Coast Offense. They have got to learn a whole new game, one where you have to be more of a man than the guy across from you, not just get in his way. Maybe Slauson should quit trying to act like John Randall, quit putting that goofy crap on his face (sure intimidated them tonight, huh?), and knock somebody on their ass.
  10. I have no problem with the officiatiing, nor do I have any problem with Pelini drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. It's a game, guys! The officials do their best and sometimes we don't agree. Personally, I thought Nebraska got away with a couple of late hits during the game. As for Pelini, I find it refreshing that he is emotional enough to get a penalty. I find it refreshing that he is that intense. Look how it has changed the intensity of our players... Guys, this is only the fourth game. It is going to take a couple of years to regain a high quality of play. I'm just enjoying the vast improvement in attitude that I have seen.
  11. I think that the kids will do better than you think. This was a big, tough, fast football team that will probably be ACC champs by the end of the year. The kids will learn a lot from this game. They may not win, they may get beat by a couple of touchdowns, but they will play hard and not give up. They continue to learn. That is GREAT! I'm impressed by the strides that this team has taken. This game (VaTech) would have ended 51-10 last year...
  12. Nebraska was outplayed by (at least at this time) a better team. They need to learn to win again, and that takes time and opportunity. The defense, who was basically uncoached for several years, has to keep learning. The offensive line just isn't tough enough, they are lifelong pass blockers trying to play old-time Nebraska football. I don't think that Slauson's crap on his face intimidated VaTech, do you? Maybe he chould just concentrate on football. They're still learning. Did you see the guys acting like idiots after Swift's touchdown? One of the coaches shut them down, seemingly telling them to get their heads back into the game. That is improvement.
  13. Oh please let this be legal and allowed by the board rules and Admin...because it's too friggin' hilarious... Removed by Mods. While it's funny, it really should go in the 'Shed. Not only do we have a fair share of the fair sex, we also have minors posting on the Board. We'd like to keep it family friendly.
  14. We don't know how lucky we are to have good fans from ISU, MU, KU and others on the board. They give us a realistic look form the outside. They are also hilarious!
  15. He really didn't say anything new or exciting. We will find out Saturday how the team is progressing. I personally feel that they are making good progress. That doesn't mean that they are going to win this or any other game against name opponents, but they are constantly seeming to improve. That is what is important.
  16. Welcome to the board. I love to watch SEC games; they play football the way it was meant to be played. Hope to see your opinion on the board often.
  17. I Have Tons of Respect for Va TECH. THey might not have an impressive Offense this year, but their Defense is looking just as strong as its been in years past. They dominate on special teams and take your turnovers and make you pay for em. And as with the past few games they've played close games, but they still have found a way to win. No matter what happens VA TECH will come to Play 60 Full minutes of football and thats gonna be the difference in this game. They have alot of young guys this year, but the thing you notice is that they have an undying WILL to win the game. They down put their heads down and surrender. This VA TEch team is legite. Whatever the final outcome may be, Its not gonna be a Blow out either way. Its gonna come down to the final minutes of the game and thats where Va Tech is oh so good. I agree...Virginia Tech is loaded with big, strong, fast athletes that are not used to losing. They will claw, scratch and bite to try to win. They also have almost legendary special team play, which is often critical in a game between fairly evenly matched teams. It is going to come down to who executes better, and who wants the win more. I hope that it is my beloved Cornhuskers. Anything more that a 7-10 point game either way will surprise me.
  18. Realistically, we will struggle against a lot of teams this year. We will win some, and we will lose some. What i want to see is how the kids react in these situations. Will they learn to do the things necessary to win close games, or will it take more time? Once they learn to win those games, they gain confidence. Then they believe that they are going to win. With the talent gap in college football so narrow now, that confidence and belief is everything. Personally, I believe that 9+ wins are possible, but not likely. It depends so much on the chemistry of the team and the attitude of the players. Remember, most people last year were predicdting 6 or 7 wins, at most, for KU and MU. But the kids gained confidence and came together. Winning breeds winning, and losing breeds losing.
  19. I was just thinkin of the Claw..And Ox Baker.. They actually rassled at the Holdrege City Auditorium once when I was in Grade School..The Neighborhood Bully "talked" a couple of us into seeing it with him. And Joe Swyback pimping the Gerispeed on TV. I remember how much his hands shook as he hawked the stuff, slapping the bottle with two fingers. Sold in all fine stores... My parents never watched it but the elderly couple next door used to babysit me and would yell at the TV for some other guy to "Bite his ear".. Ah, the Baron von Raschke, with his trademark, the infamous "Claw". I can't remember his first name, but he was the Big 8 heavywight wrestling champion while at Nebraska. And Joe Zwieback, standing there hawking Geri-Speed while warning about "mercury in the swordfish". Ivan Putski beat the Baron in Lincoln by giving him the "big splash". Damn, that makes me feel old... Memories _ve1t5eA2Nk The OX With a crossdresser? at 1:48
  20. Let's wsee how the o-line does against a big, strong quick VT defensive line and linebackers. That may be one of their bigger tests of the year. If they do well against them, then they are coming around. Although not technically part of the offensive line, I was pleased with how well the tight ends and receivers blocked. They have improved a lot, and are critical to a good running game. Realistically, who knows when Christensen will play, if ever. He probably isn't in very good shape (at least he didn't look like it coming out of the Courthouse), and will have to pick up the blocking schemes. I also think that he is still in the doghouse.
  21. Yeah, I would love to see Daniel knocked down a few time. Gotta have hope...any given Saturday, you know. I can't wait until Nebraska plays Va Tech. Then we'll know how the team will react to big-time competition. If Nebraska plays well against a good team with good recognition, then I think they will give Missouri all they want.
  22. I'll give you an Army rifle...never been fired, only been dropped once! Semper Fi, Mac!! (Just a little inter-service humor, all in fun )
  23. Oh hell, I thought you were talking about Kansas. They are the ones with the radio commercial saying that history is gone and this is the new winning tradition. Isn't a new tradition a contradiction in terms? Honestly, I listen to KC radio and haven't really heard a lot of smack talk from Missouri. Kansas, on the other hand, think they are God.
