  1. Welcome manitobahusker! Even after your total immersion therapy, there will be things that are harder to see - let me start off with a few, guys add more if you got 'em... -on football Saturday's our grocery stores have 'the game' on the radio all across the state -people in Nebraska wear red on gameday (and I'm talking about all across the state - those not at the game)"why aren't you wearing red?!" is a question you might actually hear -when I was a kid in small town Nebraska, you could listen to the game driving around town, just by having your car window open - blaring radios were litterally everywhere -with any news, the Huskers 'are' the headline in the newspaper... all of 'em. and I'm not talking about the sports section -we don't trust people who live here, who don't like the Huskers. (they're usually hippie freaks anyway) -if you are/were a boy in Nebraska, you started pretending to be some specific Husker football player as soon as you could walk and hold a football -we absolutely love our adopted Huskers, who came here from out-of-state and stayed to raise a family... there are a bunch of them
  2. ya, I'm being confusing... admittedly. I agree with the OP, and am looking forward to all that is being talked about in terms of re-crafting power football. With the coaching, I'm just trying to turn it around in my own mind - what would motivate Bo and Carl, for instance, to share what they've learned/crafted to defeat the spread offenses?... it's been answered by all the guys talking about information sharing, visiting, etc.
  3. Cousins with DE Brad Smith, circa '85. Also, best story is my dad counseled guard Greg Jorgensen when he was thinking of leaving the team in the 70's - he stuck it out, made all Big-8, and later on we were invited to Lee's Chicken with him and his family, after 'his' senior day thing at the game... I was in 6th grade, and man that was cool! Many players and their families (i'll never forget Wonder Monds and his little boy).
  4. not a negative post at all... just the 'wonder' about the coaches themselves
  5. Ya, I can fully understand it being a best practice if you're 'seeking' the help, and within any larger profession. However, I scratch my head somewhat, when translating to the coaching of top programs... an increasingly cut-throat enterprise. Asking for, and getting, key professional-assistance that just may come back to haunt the 'teacher', is something that I think would be far more probable in this instance. I 'spose it has far more to do with the fraternity of coaching at this level... which I admittedly don't belong to.
  6. I have to plead some ignorance on this topic... why would coaches share their secrets? I know it happens, but I just don't really understand it (?)
  7. i would think that stuff would spontaneously combust, if hung together in the closet...
  8. I used to listen to the radio while watching the game on tv, but Janet and Justin f'd that all up for us . its a lil more effort than one should have to go through to do so, but with my DVR i can stop the game as needed to make the radio broadcast sync up. There seems to be just as big of cushion on the radio side, they just time it out differently with breaks and stuff. It seems to work good enough for me, and I rarely listen to the TV broadcasts. WHY HAVE I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS!!!??? Thanks for the post!
  9. ...seeing all the girlfriends, fiancees, & wives, this thread should be renamed 'outkicking your coverage!'
  10. Bill Callahan Allegedly Referred to Tom Osborne as a "Crusty, Old F***" "If anything, I wish he'd speak up more," Pelini said. "He really handles it in such a professional manner . . ." Pelini's voiced trailed off a bit . . . "I hate to say this," he said. "Sometimes he talks to me the way my father used to talk to me. He's extremely supportive. But he's willing to give his opinion and be really black and white and say, 'Hey, I think this is something you need to fix,' or, 'I like the way you did this.' "That's a great thing to have." the prosecution rests.
  11. I like this post. I keep getting the feeling that our program is now operating under the very best of management styles; "I don't care who gets the credit, it's all about finding the best solution." I think this speaks highly of all of our coaches, but most especially the sentiments coming from the top. This doesn't change the fact that I get riled up about individual coaches (Wats, Cotton)... but I guess at the end of the day, I have to admit that the staff does appear to be functioning as a 'unit' as well. Haven't seen that in a very long time.
  12. same for me... it's all about perspective... lived in California for 4 years, but moved back to Nebraska to raise the family and start my own business. that was 15 years ago - wouldn't change a thing!!! the 'many things to do' in California, also comes with falling asleep to the sound of police helicopters chasing the day's freak show. besides that, Memorial Stadium is a 20 min. drive scoreboard!
  13. Likewise! but... there are 25 guys, in the entire country, with top 25 college football teams. that would be different. i'm sure there are at least 30 others out there who could do what i do...
  14. yeah, that '2 - legendary coaches' part of last year's tunnel walk video always sorta bugged me... "hey, we've got #3 right down there!" ...but i get ahead of myself...
  15. I'd say the significant 'bumps' should continue... Bo's already progressed way beyond the stage of being an unknown-commodity (a first time head coach). I'd also say that defensive ranking alone qualifies as a measurable achievement.
  16. Upgrade to something like titanium? If NU were to change of their look it certainly wouldn't be an upgrade. ...bought a cherry '67 Shelby Cobra at the Barrett Jackson auto auction, and welded big tail fins on it, cause it looks really cool.
  17. Imagine his offense with pelini's D... ...this would be like mixing matter with anti-matter, or the ghostbusters 'crossing the streams'
  18. with a chance of 'aftershocks'! just heard on the radio that SD felt a 5.8 today (located just a bit south)...
  19. skers, admire you greatly, and always fully consider what you are posting. it does not change the fact that all that is currently said about our offense, is precisely what was said about our defense in 2007. where were the world-beaters on the 07 defensive squad/depth chart? We are Nebraska for chrissakes.... we always have atheletes. where is the coaching? (and ya, Oz ain't perfect - I lived thru many a year of whacking the little 6 and getting our butts handed to us by OU). all i'm saying is that he (OZ) can see noiw what isn't working, and help out a bit. I hope beyond hope that Bo sees his next big hurdle as a head coach.
  20. They weren't allowed to do anything because they can't do anything. Three opportunities for Lee to throw it deep against Texas...three interceptions. How many dropped passes have we seen this year? Those didn't disappear as the year progressed, they are still very much a problem. And no, the o-line penalties did not dwindle towards the end of the year. If I recall correctly, the o-line had three false start penalties in in a row against Texas. And we decided to run the ball later in the year. This offense has gotten worse as the season progressed. Yeah, but I don't see how this will help our offense. Our defensive coaches are far superior to our offensive coaches...it's not even close. And our defense showed improvement last year; our offense has not shown any sign of improvement this year. exactly... you've again described the situation our defense was in under Coz. I've been on the fence for a long time (players/coaches?), but i'm now ready to say it's offensive coaching that's the problem. Bo's biggest head-coach hurdle now, is to figure out the overall coaching on the offensive side of the ball. imo.
  21. sounds like you're describing the defense from just a couple years ago... remember what the Pelini boys did with their taped-together defensive bunch last year? that's what 'excellent' coaches can do. just sayin'...
