  1. These are 2 things that Calllllllahan never did understand.
  2. The Jets fans boo seemingly EVERY single draft pick the teams makes, can you imagine what was said after this came down? HAHA, good luck Jets fans, he'll do "An outstanding job in every aspect" and I sure it will be "too technical for you to understand"!
  3. I expect the team to play with more heart and passion next year, but how that ends up in the Win/Loss column I don't know. It is far too early to tell. As far as Calllllllahan being an excellent offensive coach, yes, his teams are offensive to watch. Made me throw up in my mouth at times.
  4. I just want the best players to be in the right position and be on the field to give us the best opportunity to win.
  5. agree, adding weight just to add bulk and "match up" makes no sense if you give up speed and quickness. callahan had some screwed up ideas when it came to size and moving guys from one side of the ball to the other. he may be good at scheming (heavy on the may be) but utilizing and playing guys at the correct position(s) was way over his head. It kind of reminds me of how Ahman Green put on about 10-15 pounds of "pure muscle" between his FR and SO years. Sure he was injured in 96 but even when healthy, Ahman wasn't the same as he was during his FR year. He shed most of the weight and had a spectacular 97 season. The majority of our most effective DEs played between 240 and 260 pounds. At Barry's height he shouldn't be over 250.
  6. If this monster class would be similar to his first monster class that just delivered a 5-7 season, I say good riddance. I want players who have the heart and soul to play for NEBRASKA, who sellout and leave it all on the field, and I don't care if they have 5 stars or no stars. These soft 4 and 5 star primadonnas that Calllllllahan brought in here couldn't cut it.
  7. I would definitely expect the offense to change a little bit, but not a whole lot. More of an evolution than an overhaul with Watson at the helm IMO. Someone needs to remind Watson that his offense wasn't that great. 6 points vs Mizzou, and I don't think we put up over 21 points versus any of the top 20 teams we played in 2006. It has had it's ups and downs. Bottom line, some of the greatest NCAA qb's haven't been the greatest NFL qb's and vice versa.
  8. So NOW, we're saying Frank was a "good hire"? He won 75% of his games at NU. Was he great, no, and probably the wrong guy to lead NU into the 2000's. Good, yeah, he was good, better than most. Good just isn't quite good enough at dear old Nebraska U.
  9. What a funny quote Kind of like seeing the state capital, Morril Hall, and Chimney Rock!
  10. I was suprised that Watson was retained as well. I thought that maybe Joe Rudolph would be retained. The one long post is pretty much a common take on Watson at CU. For some reason he is seen as an "up and comer" but most people who have watched his offense much at all are less than impressed.
  11. Exactly. There are alot of rumors out there, until they are proven, they are just rumors.
  12. You said it yourself. Maybe it's more about the guy and not the fact that he's an NFL coach. True but this attitude is more prevalent in the NFL then in college. NFL is business, Super Bowl or bust, where in NCAA there are varying levels of success, as well as traditions. That is why college coaches normally are best off staying in college, and NFL coaches normally are better off staying in the NFL. There are exceptions to this, but I believe the trend.
  13. It showed in the way they played for him. I had a weird dream last night that Watson used an even more complicated WCO next year than the one Calllllllahan ran, and Husker fans were not amused.
  14. I understand the allure and the weight of having a degree from ND, so good luck to you. Trevor, you are 18 & old enough to carry a gun for your country, maybe you should not let daddy make your decisions for you. And cut your hair, the 60's are gone.
  15. Coaching was obviously not there, talent likely was. I may be in the minority, but if these kids were more committed to Calllllllahan and his staff then they were to the University of Nebraska, I say "See ya!!!!!!" The last thing we need is a bunch of heartless, gutless, soft Calllllllahan recruits to be in the top 10 per Rivals recruiting rankings, but are in the bottom half of the rankings for all of Division 1.
  16. I was there, had seats 6 rows from the front. I sure the lame-ass Creighton fans have never had the Qwest rocking like that. It was freaking awesome!! Great game, great atmosphere, great win. This was one of the few good ideas that Pederson had. Congrats to Doc and the boys. Doc and the team were out there on the floor high-fiving the fans after the game, it was pretty cool.
  17. Yup. I like to win and if we don't win I like to see maximum effort on the field when we lose. I also expect the players to feel the same way. Be a leader, let your teamates know that you expect 100% from them on every play, that the quest for excellence is what is expected of every young man who puts on that Red jersey. Anything less is totally unacceptable. If you don't understand this you are at the wrong school. >>>T_O_B Winner, winner chicken dinner. Best post on here! See ya Mo. By the way, snow falls from the sky, it doesn't ooze up from the ground
  18. Shevin Wiggins (his first #). 65
  19. I concur with your thoughts. I really did not think that Pellini was a serious possibility, but now it looks more likely. I'm not necessarily on board with the idea that Osborne will make a sound decision . . . after all, he is 0-1 when it comes to selecting head coaches. Pellini has never headed up a program before, and this is looking more and more like Solich revisted. Question: I heard this asked yesterday on 1620, and I thought it was a provocative question. If Scott Frost would have had the same resume as Turner Gill, would he have been more readily selected? This is a very uncomfortable thing, but is Gill going to be rejected based upon the color of his skin? They are crazy about him at Buffalo. Since you are clueless and have avoided all of my questions I wonder, how do you come to the conclusion that Bo will be Frank revisited? How ignorant are you to suggest that Turner would somehow be denied because Nebraska couldn't handle having a black head coach? Turner is a legend, a class act, very intelligent, and even though he may not be everyone's first choice, I don't think that many would be upset to see him be the HC. I agree with another poster, its not a provocative question, it's idiotic. I saw where you said that the "boosters are pulling the strings on this hire." That may or may not be true, but the one thing we all know is that they were pulling the strings to get Frank fired and look how that has turned out. I understand that you are just a blowhard, but why won't you answer the questions you keep avoiding: while Frank may not have been the best choice to be HC back in 98, how can you say that a guy who won 75% of his games was a "failure?" Also, if that guy is a "failure" then what do you call the guy who won 55% of his games and failed to make any changes that would improve his success??? edit: I see that you don't prefer a guy that has never headed up a program being our next head coach. I can name 2 that were pretty okay hires, Tom Osborne and Bob Stoops.
  20. That is often true-- if you consider that it's the defense's job to not let the other team score more points than your own. All of those times that McBride saved TO's ass by keeping the opponent's score lower than our score really give TO a black eye. really, i've put it on here before, but go look at his offensive stats. they're garbage. solich wasnt a horrible coach but he was NOT the right person for the job. looking at the 9-3 record only tells a portion of the story. the defense was more or less responsible for every win that season i swear to god i am tired of people looking at half the picture and forming a whole opinion on here Yes lets look at the WHOLE picture, like the entire team, which is what the HEAD COACH is responsible for and something that Calllllllahan never could understand. Once it became clear to Frank that he could not be OC/HC, he hired someone to take over as OC which was something else that Calllllllahan never would have done. The WHOLE TEAM under Solich won about 75% of its games, and only 55% under Calllllllahan.
  21. That and he was rolling with all of TO's recruits. Then couldn't recruit talent himself. Kind of like Calllllllahan, he did well when he had FS's recruits, but look what happened when almost all of Frank's guys went to the NFL.
  22. Just because some people supported Callahan with a new defensive staff, does not mean that they don't know anything about football. That is an extremely arrogant and condescending statement. If you are such an educated football mind, then why aren't you being paid the big bucks coaching somewhere? I didn't support Callahan because I felt that he was the best coach out there. I supported him because I felt that if he hired a new "Pelini-style" D-coordinator, things could have been very different. I supported him because I felt that he didn't have enough time. Prior to this season, there was NO evidence that a defensive meltdown was imminent. In fact, the defense was looking tougher closing out last season by limiting Colorado, Oklahoma and Auburn. Some say he should have fired Cosgrove earlier-- but I challenge you by saying that there was no evidence prior to this season that a defensive change was needed, and secondly, he can't be expected to fire Cosgrove during the season. I felt that keeping Callahan would be a lesser risk than hiring the unproven names that have been mentioned. Giving Callahan 1 or 2 more seasons with a new DC would be an equal risk to a totally new staff. I think that if the staff had met Osborne's benchmarks, Callahan would have fired Cosgrove anyways. Ultimately, the fact is that Callahan could not meet Osborne's benchmarks and there is no argument to that. I support Osborne's decision, however I also feel that Callahan could have turned it around. Why isn't he being mentioned for any jobs?? Easy. His 27-22 record. Is he the best coach out there? No-- he was a first time college head coach who had to learn on the job. He learned in his 4th season that he needs a better defense and that a mobile qb makes his offense better. He learned that he has the offensive weapons in place, and it's time to go and recruit a championship defense. He learned that Nebraska isn't patient. How much time are you willing to give Pelini? Pelini or whoever will be given much more time thanks to Calllllllahan lowering the standards at NU. Calllllllahan never would have "turned it around" no matter who the DC was. His offense was decent against bad teams but non-existant against good/great teams, and his preparation, play calling and game plans made everyone scratch their heads. The better bet would be an up-and-coming coordinator/HC from a smaller school as opposed to a washed up NFL has been who's success has been marginal and limited at best.
