  1. Doesn't really matter where it is. If we're in it, we'll be well represented.
  2. We crossed the Platte south of Fremont yesterday. I've gone over that bridge 500 times, easy, and the river was the highest I remember seeing it. We even made sure we left for home during daylight so we could see when we crossed it, in case something happened. It was over the banks on the northwest side of the bridge last night (not uncommon - that's a low area), but it looked like it was heading higher. The other thing was how fast the water was moving. It was plowing through the sandbars that have been around for decades, causing huge swells, with tons of force. I'm betting the landscape of the river is significantly changed in the next couple of weeks. Sandbars that have been around for decades will be changed.
  3. Two days ago would have been Saturday, yes? I'm guessing Coach Brown lives somewhere on the Southeast side of town and didn't want to slog all the way through the bazillion traffic lights he'd inevitably hit getting from 70th & A to 10th & Holdrege. Think about it - if he had gone up 70th to Vine, then over to campus, he'd have gone through 14 stoplights, not counting 70th & A, which he would have had to go through regardless. I will guarantee you he would have had to stop at 2/3 of them, if not 75% of them. That's an extra 20 minutes, counting time driving and one-minute stops at each light. That's even a conservative estimate, and guessing it was early enough in the AM that there was little traffic on the streets. Why put yourself through that aggravation? Plus, I'd bet he doesn't pay for membership to Prairie Life. Coaches get benefits deals, and I'd bet my left arm that membership to a gym is one of Coach Brown's package deals.

    Field Logo

Nowhere at all? We used to, but it was never put back on when the new field turf was installed in 2005. Makes you wonder how long this whole thing has been talked about.
  5. Someone remind me who this "Texas" is. The name sounds familiar, but I can't seem to care enough to remember....
  6. I think we will have a Big 10 section for certain by September, 2011. It's just a question of when we want to make it. If we make a new section, we should archive the Big 12 section. There were lots of good conversations in there that we should leave accessible for everyone.
  7. People use the N all the time around here. Can we make a cool/nice looking emoticon out of that? Something more like our logo, but not exactly like the logo (not sure about copyright issues).
  8. Awesome. Glad we could all help you and your son. :thumbs
  9. I'm really excited for this upgrade. Eventually, 20-50 years down the road, when the zoo needs to expand/rebuild, that Rosenblatt space will be invaluable. That's growth space for a century, at least. The ideas they're talking about for the "new" zoo sound great. It'll be a mess for a while, but if they pull this off like they did with the Jungle, which is hands down my favorite zoo attraction in the world, it's going to turn out brilliantly.
  10. Because Michigan is still one of the pillars of college football. If we disrespect Michigan because recently they've been on a down cycle, then Nebraska merits no respect, either. Michigan and Nebraska are similar in that we are both long-standing powerhouse teams, iconic in our success, and enjoying nationwide popularity. We are brand names like Coke and Pepsi. Just because they've been down recently doesn't mean they'll be down forever, or for very much longer. They will rise back up and take their rightful place among the elite of college football, just like we are striving to do right now after a down cycle.
  11. Good stuff. Not a lot to disagree with, just quibbles here and there that amount to nothing. I think what we're seeing from your posts and mine is that Nebraska and Texas simply have philosophical differences that steer each school in different directions. Likely the marriage of NU and UT in the Big 12 was never destined to last. It was a lot of fun for a while, and I'm sure we'll have an epic clash on 10/16/10, but after that, I doubt either school loses much sleep over not being in the same conference. We're just not alike, and there's nothing wrong with that.
  12. Welcome to HuskerBoard, BlakShurt. Make yourself at home. I wouldn't worry too much about KSU Fan. Their school would have done exactly what we did today if they were in our shoes. What you're witnessing is the angst of a fan base staring into the abyss. They are being left by the school that made them relevant over the past 40 years. It's scary, and they're acting out.
  13. I get what you're saying, but there has been a concerted effort from Texas media outlets to paint this as "Nebraska's fault" over the last ten days. Throughout that time Nebraska has remained silent, allowing the barbs from Texas and their mouthpieces to be fired over and over. There's a time to remain silent and there's a time to set the record straight. All we did through this whole process was say and do exactly the correct, the proper thing. When the time came to set the record straight, we did. If Kansas Fan wants to take that as Nebraska not being classy, let them. I have zero concern for their opinion if they're going to be so uninformed.
  14. Can't see it, just the main page. What do they have? It's a poll on the KU message board about who handled their departure with more class, CU or NU. Not a single person has voted for NU so far. That's BS. Perlman and Osborne were the epitome of class in this whole process. That's simply sour grapes, nothing more. I'll take the slings and arrows from Kansas in exchange for the welcome mat being laid down by the Big 10. The warm welcome by these fans has wildly exceeded my hopes. They've been great, and frankly, I won't lose any sleep over Scout posters loyal to Kansas.
  15. Classic isn't the word. The Earth will truly shake around this place and A&M will find itself an outcast, not only in the athletic universe of this state, but also politically and academically. That's a high price to pay....I'm hoping too high. No kidding, do you think the commies built a wall around Berlin? These people will pull a strip of Louisiana down and wrap it around College Station. Mike, I think you (and Texas in general) are very much underestimating the image that the rest of college football is getting about Texas right now. There is NO REASON to blow up the Big 12. There was no reason to drive Nebraska out, but you did it anyway. Remember the public image hit Nebraska took after firing Solich? Texas is in for one of these, especially if A&M parts ways with you guys. Why do you think, with the strong ties between A&M and the Longhorns, A&M would even fathom leaving? I will guarantee you that if A&M goes to the SEC, they will explain in no uncertain terms why they left you, and it won't be pretty. It'll consist of a description of a school less interested in being a partner and more interested in being an overlord, and it'll go on from there. Perlman and Osborne used kid gloves today describing Texas machinations that forced us to leave. A&M will let you have it with both barrels. Sure, you'll recover from a hit like that. But it will not be forgotten. Just be ready to deal with that, because it's coming. Read less of Chip Brown and more of the national media and you'll see what I'm talking about.
  16. Hey it's better than them coming to the Big 10. I hope they do good in the Pac-10 so they never join the Big 10. Agreed, but I have some friends who are Oregon fans. They deserve better.
  17. This was a great post, and helps illustrate why KU fans will be the ones I will miss the most from the Big 8/12. We share a border, and Nebraskans and Kansans are so much alike. Y'all are good people. The thing about the money is exactly right. College football is a billions-of-dollars-a-year business now. None of us let that genii out of the bottle, but now that it's out, it isn't going back in. Nebraska happens to be in a position where we can ride the money wave thanks to our football tradition. Kansas only differs from us in that you guys focused on basketball rather than football, but the money wasn't in basketball. Football is king, and that's why we're here. I have no doubt we'll do everything we can to schedule you guys OOC if there is no Kansas/Big 10 miracle out there somewhere, but even still, it just won't be the same.
  18. Amen. Let's not start fights that don't exist. Husker fans, if you have an issue with some Hawkeye fans, just remember that your beef isn't with THESE Hawkeye fans. Let's treat everyone with the respect we're being shown by our new Big 10 brethren. These guys, from several different teams, have come over here and been aces. There's no reason we can't do the same.
  19. This is good in so very many different ways. Welcome to the Huskers, Big Ten!
  20. Nebraska does not do this, or if we do it's in a situation-by-situation basis.
  21. I'm hearing that on the radio and TV, too. Sounds like A&M is looking to split with Texas - wonder why that would be?
  22. JGS, before you go rubbing Fro's nose in anything, remember that Delany stated that the Big 10 would most likely move in stages. This is NOT their last move, and Missouri is still a player.
  23. As the Steve Pederson era wound down, with Nebraska Football at historic lows, languishing under the misdirection of a coach Steve Pederson hired, many people turned their thoughts not just to the Athletic Director who hired that coach, but to the Chancellor who hired the AD, Harvey Perlman. Perlman's name came up in thread after thread on HuskerBoard, pissed that he let a guy like Pederson ruin our program. He was the Head Guy, and the buck stopped there. Perlman took action in 2007 when the program crumbled beyond repair, and the Pederson didn't seem likely to fire the coach he had risked his neck to hire. Out went Pederson and in came Tom Osborne, the man who would heal our wounds. Callahan was ousted and Pelini was hired, but still resentment against Perlmen festered. Now we stand at the brink of an historic change in the landscape of college football, taking the most risky and most likely beneficial step ever taken on behalf of this university, and this athletic program. Perlman has spearheaded this effort on our behalf, and has guided us through a minefield of disasters and downturns, ultimately choosing to leave the Big 12 and join the most prestigious public academic conference in the country. Perlman will be lauded as a hero for orchestrating this move, and rightly so. What a change a few years can make for one man's image. Thanks, Harvey. You did a good job here.
  24. You knew this meeting wasn't a preliminary step. This is a final step.
