Does the bolded really matter? It really isn't any different than before the B1G even had a championship game. One of Iowa's claimed B1G titles was a year when their conference record was the same as Ohio State's even though Ohio State won the NC. Currently, we have conferences that don't have the same amount of teams. Heck, we even have one playoff qualifier that doesn't belong to a conference. Given those parameters, it seems completely doing away with the conference championship game would be best. The playoff committee already ranks the teams. Make the conference title game week the first round of the playoffs. The Big 12 even having a conference championship game seems ridiculous considering every teams plays one another during the season. If the playoff committee isn't going to reward or penalize a team based on a conference championship game, why even play them?

How do you impress the playoff committee by beating 7-5 unranked Pitt? You don't, and it has nothing to do with Clemson being in the playoff. For the most part, the ACC Championship game was absolutely meaningless. If the playoff committee has been anything, they've been consistent. It matters little whether you win your conference or not. The only way you're getting into the playoff is if you have one loss or less. Some experts are saying the committee got it wrong by leaving Georgia out of the playoff. Apparently, these same experts have been asleep the last few years. Georgia had no chance once they secured their second loss. Rather than watching a bunch of meaningless conference championship games this past weekend, I would have rather watched Bama vs. UCF; Clemson vs. Michigan; Notre Dame vs. Ohio State; and Georgia vs. OU.

I wondered how long it would be before someone would bring up the fact that for the second straight year the B1G missed out on the playoff. I read an article last week that pretty much summed up how I've viewed the playoff with regards to college football. This past weekend, we pretty much had a bunch of games that essentially meant little. Even if Clemson would have lost, they probably still make the playoff. Even if Bama loses, they probably still make the playoff. It was a foregone conclusion that it really didn't matter who won the Pac 12 because the winner wasn't getting into the playoff. As it turns out, the B1G Championship really didn't matter with regards to the playoff either. This past weekend would have been perfect for the start of the playoff in an eight team field. Let's do away with the conference championship games and use that weekend to start the eight team playoff.
  4. When's the last time we had a RB rush for 1,000 yards without a single fumble? Ever?
  5. I'm sure Brady Hoke got an A or A+ his first year at Michigan. This is why it's better to just wait until the end of year 3.
  6. I went with a C because of the record. I'd rather just give an incomplete as I don't really think it's necessary to grade a coach until after year 3.
  7. Here's a list of guys that came into the program with some pretty decent hype but really didn't pan out either because of injury or something else: DeAngelo Evans, David Horne, Thunder Collins, and Randy Stella.
  8. Well we got pushed into it when CU put a bullseye on us. Then, they proceeded to beat us three times in a row. However, it was a fairly short lived rivalry when Dick Nudeweasel wussified them.
  9. I think almost all Nebraska fans understand it. However, I just don't think it's a good look when on national tv for all those viewing who aren't necessarily Husker fans.
  10. I don't think Iowa is a rival. I don't think we really even have a rival in the B1G. I would guess Iowa's rival to be Iowa State. We will be just fine even though we do not have a rival.
  11. Does anyone else get annoyed when they show the stands with a lot of open seats and then the broadcasters go on about this being the whatever consecutive sellout? Maybe it's just me.
  12. While I realize this doesn't exactly answer the question with regards to whether or not UCF has more overall talent, we do know we have a starter on defense that was not going to be a starter on the UCF defense. Another thing to consider is what one's opinion as to how Chinander compares to Randy Shannon. IMO at this moment in time, Shannon is simply a better defensive coordinator than Chinander. This isn't a knock at all on Chinander as I see Randy Shannon as one of the best defensive coordinators out there. Chinander may very well get there, but as of right now he just doesn't have the experience of Shannon.
  13. I hope you're wrong on the bolded. Wouldn't it really suck for UCF if they again went undefeated and then lost their coach to his alma mater where he won a NC as a player because their current coach bolted for Dallas?
  14. Of course it does. This is why Chinander wants 22 guys ready to go at all times on defense. When playing with a fast up tempo offense, the defense plays more snaps. We all know the depth just isn't there. It has been magnified by the fast striking offense. We're still three to four years away from knowing what a Chinander coached defense here looks like. It's this same lack of depth that has caused our special teams play to be rather poor. As we come to an end of the season and head into next season, the defense is what has me the most excited to watch and monitor progress.
  15. I guess I remember it differently. I remember our defense carrying the team to victory. In fact, I really don't remember our offense doing much until the fourth quarter after our OL wore down KState's defense.
  16. Carried the team as in three of his OL were named 1st Team All Americans? One of those three OL won both the Outland and UPI Lineman of the year. The 94' OL was the best OL Nebraska has ever fielded. In 97', Green rushed for more yards on less carries behind an OL that was good but not 94' good.
  17. I've always thought Ahman Green was the best running back to ever play at NU. Behind the 95' OL, Green averaged 7.7 yards per carry while Phillips averaged 7.4. Green rushed for 42 TDs while Phillips rushed for just 33. In terms of career rushing averages, Green came in at 6.8 yards per carry while Phillips was at 6.1. Green also outgained Phillips as a receiver by 1.6 yards per catch. Like I said, I always thought Green was the most complete running back to play at NU.
  18. I meant thus far into the season. If Michigan loses to Ohio State and or loses in the B1G Championship, I'm sure they'll consider their season pretty disappointing. If Northwestern would somehow manage to win the B1G Championship, the B1G will once again be left out of the playoff which would be disappointing to all.
  19. I went with QB3 because of the best INT to TD ratio. Plus, he can run well enough to keep the defense honest. The one thing missing that I would liked to have seen was how many carries each QB had to get those rushing yards.
  20. With the exception of Ohio State and Michigan, is there a single B1G team that isn't having a disappointing season? At first glance, one might be inclined to say Northwestern as they've locked up the West. However, their season hasn't exactly been that great either by losing to Akron and Duke.
  21. I know we would all like to believe that these players commit to a program, but that isn't really what happens. Players commit to a coach or a staff. Once that coach and staff is gone, it's not uncommon for players to leave. Frost didn't really commit to Stanford. He really committed to Walsh. Once Walsh was gone, Frost left. Did Vedral commit to UCF, or did he commit to Frost? Gebbia leaving was the right decision for him. I've just never understood why he waited so long.
  22. Let's let the season play out before we start making these comparisons. I for one think the defense is getting better with each game.
  23. I didn't say it wasn't hurting the Ohio State team. However, I don't for one minute believe him leaving Ohio State to prepare for the NFL draft signals that there are underlying problems within the Ohio State program. It was brought up by another poster that him leaving signaled problems within the program. I don't believe that it does.
