  1. You can analyze a bunch of things.. I've been to numerous games and 11AM starts are the worst for "atmosphere". Trust me, I love the intangible electricity around Husker games, so I'm always trying to feel it. There's something about that 11am start that kills it.
  2. Awesome story. That was truly an incredible team and an incredible time.
  3. I can not believe that I fell for the BS coach speak about "fitting the scheme to the guys", "really like the idea of a running QB"..... Should have known the truth with the comments "I think we ran well today" (38 carries for 82 yards), "I haven't ever had a running QB before", "we can use the pass to set up the run"..... A$$ clowns for coaches. Not all, but most. When Riley said he'd adjust to the talent on hand, I believed it too. But while every game and season is important to the fans, this staff just views it as part of the long term building process, as if this first season is just a minor bump in the road to long term success. I think "adjusting to the talent" really meant finding which plays in the Riley playbook that Tommy and crew can have success with. Not actually running the type of plays that they had success with in the past. Reminds me of Callahan's first year , going 5-7 and saying that it's "just one season".
  4. Between the actual running backs--Newby, Cross and Janovich-- there were just 25 carries. The lead back had 16 carries. Counter that with 48 passes, and no, this is not commitment to the run. Commitment isn't just number of carries. It's a mentality and a game plan that states that we are going to run the ball down your throat, blast you off the line of scrimmage, you're going to know exactly what's coming, and you're still not going to stop it. It is not sprinkling in a run here and there as the wrinkle to compliment the passing game.
  5. Tommie Frazier probably knew nothing about Jerry Tagge, Jeff Kinney or Johnny Rodgers... And that turned out ok.
  6. He needs time to implement his system. While firing him after one season seems extreme, I remember something that Osborne said when announcing Callahan's firing. Osborne said that in all his time at NU, felt that he would not survive a losing season.
  7. We win. Because unlike some of you , this team doesn't quit. They go down swinging and try again next week. The staff will keep trying, so get in, sit down, shut up and hang on. You're either for them or against them, no inbetweens. All the bitching in the world isn't going to change things. If Riley and staff don't succeed, they'll be gone years from now. No sense in debating it. Nothing you say or do will change that, so support them. Go Big Red!
  8. I wouldn't call Wisconsin a rival and I certainly don't think they consider us one either. They've kicked us in the teeth all but one time. They were the big, bad ground pounding team of the Big Ten and we were the big, bad ground pounding team of the Big 12, and unfortunately, they've proven to be tougher. After 5 games, I don't know what to expect out of Nebraska. I hope we win, it's my birthday too, but who knows anymore. Banker seems to think that their offensive style plays right into our defensive scheme, so we'll see.
  9. Must be his excellent pass blocking. this should tell you something about the rest of our RB's..........No. It tells you about the staff and how little they value the running game.Yeah, you said it. This offense wants to set up the pass first, and use the running game as the wrinkle. Totally against our mentality of using the run to establish the passing game. With that mentality, a running back who excels at pass blocking, reading/picking up blitzes will start ahead of a better runner/inferior blocker.
  10. http://m.omaha.com/huskers/why-aren-t-more-husker-rbs-playing-if-you-re/article_f8b674bc-6613-11e5-8c7c-e79c4824f51c.html?mode=jqm Pretty much sums it up.
  11. When did the damn circus come to town ? I didn't see any trucks..
  12. Oh yes, Cotton McNight and Pepper Brooks.. I'll take them over Ed Cunningham any day !
  13. It came down to line play. Our offensive line didn't get a good push and really faltered against BYUs pass pressure, especially in the second quarter . Our d-line didn't provide enough pressure. Simple as that. Games are won or lost on line play.
  14. I didn't think he did too bad, although I did read that Riley may take a look at a kicker/punter on the NU club rugby teams. I'm surprised that Drew Brown wasn't called on since he punted in high school.
  15. Agree with this 100%. It is a team thing and should stay in the locker room. It is odd that it is a thread every game day here too. I'm all for more hype and energy in the stadium and love the Husker Power chant leading up to the tunnel walk. Some games , the timing is off and there is no chant .. But when there is, it can be pretty intimidating to a visiting team and crowd.
  16. 2015 helmet and jersey with 2013 pants. That would look awesome.
  17. Well, those gang members are known to be hard asses.
  18. Not really, there was a time when the Huskers were on KKAR. When it comes to football, with every game televised, this is not a big deal (other than an FM simulcast), but for the other sports, this is a great move. 590 will air ALL baseball games, including Friday games, and the reach of 590's signal is bigger than that of KFAB's. The only time I ever listen to a Husker football game is in the car and good luck getting KFAB in Des Moines after dark, 590's signal booms in day AND night. I have read many similar comments regarding the strength of 590's and 1110's signals. I travel from Omaha to Kansas City weekly for work and I lose 590 and 1110 between Rockport and Mound City, MO-- only 100-120 miles south of Omaha. So how does 590 come in clear in Des Moines? I had a friend tell me that on some nights, he can get KFAB in Oklahoma City. Anyways, I'm glad that the broadcast group will remain the same. I enjoy Matt Davison's insight and commentary. and there's a certain allure about "homer" announcers.
  19. My grandfather was fan when DX Bible was coach. He worked the railroad and took the train to Lincoln from South Sioux City, NE for the games. My dad grew up during the Bill Glassford era. He told me about listening to games with his dad on the radio in the garage while working on cars in the 40s and 50s. Grandpa became a season ticket holder in the Devaney years. I remember listening to games on KFAB with my dad.. I remember Bremser's voice, then Pavelka. Then Espn killed the radio star.. I'm a fan because my dad was a fan. And his dad was a fan. And now my kids are fans. Nebraska is our life.
  20. His statement probably matches the leaked audio from a couple years ago.
