  1. I thought I had heard somewhere that theyre trying to work out a deal to have it aired on the NFL Network every year. The NFL Network said they had lots of viewers (idk an exact number) but it was enough for them to rerun the spring game and enoguh for them to ask for a contract extension (I believe last years spring game was on a one year contract and was an experimental way for the NFL Network to get better rating).
  2. Go to , it gives you a different angle and better picture quality. The play is at 1:21 into the video. Like you said, Wiggins was hit right? Well in the video it shows him falling over after the hit. It cant be a kick if Wiggins was hit and as you should see, after his body hits the ground is when he hits the football, and hes not even looking at the football. His legs bounce of the ground (which im sure yours would do in that situation) and hit the ball. Hows the first way you get up after you get hit over in pads? Well if you want toget straight up you lift your legs in some way Im sure. Bottom line, it wasnt an illegal kick.
  3. The Texas' and USC's of the world are always going to have the early and big-name commits. They obviously have many more in-state recruits to look at. Other reasons include their success in recent years, and their loaction (warmer placces usually attract kids who like the warmer weather). NU has caoches who have been off the big time coaching perspective for years. Some of them will have to rebuild the ties they had and grow new ones. I personally am not concerened, look at the class Pelini pulled in after the decommited ran all the way to double-digit numbers. Add the dead period and its likely one of the greatest recruiting jobs in NU history. Do not worry the recruits will come, the time of which they come shouldnt matter since a majority of recruits open up their recruiting their senior year after already commiting to a school.
  4. Just to be fair to your comment, if we hired Callahan, we would probably not be nearly as good. Mangino is better than he is. Now we still would be better than we were under Terry Allen, because we were AWFUL. You all are not happy with 6-6, but after Terry Allen, we would have been. Callahan would have had more time to build, because KU would have taken any signs of success. In the end, he is an average coach at best and NO WAY should he have a job like Nebraska, which is a great job for a coach to have if he wants a good chance at winning titles. Mangino built Kansas himself, and he runs it his way, and he deserves a lot of credit. WInning an Orange Bowl is so special, we have never accompliched so much in our almost 120 years of football, so that is an accomplishment to be recognized. As for Big Red, Tradition and fan support do not go on the field and play, but they help a lot in recruiting and on game day and they tend to help perpetuate success. I am not sure you will win as much as you think, but there is a lot more talent then most teams coming off a bad season with a new coach, and this new coach has a history, so we will see. I think if you have a winning record next year, considering all the change and how good your oppostion has become, it would be an ok start. Look at us! We have a one year winning streak! We are teh football experts! Woot!.... I would gladly put my knowledge of College Football up against yours Cyclone... Just because my team is not traditional power has nothing to do with my personal knowledge of College Football. I did not just start showing up this year to games, I was at 11 games in person for the Hawks and I can assure you the tickets for all but the Bowl game were bought this summer before I had any idea that we would be that good. It is a compliment, in a way, though. If you can't make an intelligent comment on my ideas, just start throwing ignorant insults that are independent of my content. I also have followed Nebraska for a long time, so maybe you could help me out with a comment on my analysis or where I have said something untrue or unbalanced... First of all...this article says much better than I about the true situation regarding your wunderkind coach: It must be said that Mangino did an excellent job this past year. He over-achieved for his talent level, and that's always a credit to the coaches. That said, however, one year does not a legend make. Nystrom continues: One other thing about him: his trophy case now features the 2007 Big 12 Coach of the Year award along with eight separate National Coach of the Year awards. Plus, he won an Orange Bowl at the University of Kansas, for crying out loud. Here are some minor details that Nystrom leaves out: You know those "eight separate National Coach of the Year awards"? Yeah, they're all from 2007. Mangino has been at Kansas for six seasons. Before this year, Mangino had only once broken .500 (going 7-5 in 2005). He had never had a winning season in conference play. In fact, he'd never done better than 3-5 in conference before this year. He had never ended the season ranked. Coming into the season, Mangino was 25-35 all time at Kansas and if he had lost the bowl game, he'd still have a losing record with the Jayhawks. Even after this year he's still 18-30 in conference play. (Which means that it will take him a minimum of two more years to get into the black there) Nystrom also lays out another argument against Mangino pretty well: "He won the Orange Bowl with a roster full of one-, two- and three-stars." In six years of coaching at Kansas, the man has been unable to lure the four- and five-star athletes that his conference competitors have. He does, obviously, coach them well, but coaching is only half of the college battle. You just can't win consistently (that's the key word) with poor recruits. The harsh truth of the matter is this: 2007 was a spectacular year for Mangino which followed five miserable years as a bottom-dweller in the Big 12. He's got a few years to go before anyone's beating down his door, and if he doesn't parlay this national prominence into some highly regarded recruits, no major program will ever want him: if you can't recruit when you're winning, you can't recruit period. Now lets reflect on your opinion of Terry Allen's coaching prowess as compared to Mangino... Let's see...Allen as a head coach with Kansas and UNI compiled a overall record of 95 & 59. Mangino has a head coaching record of 37 & 36. Allen, in his five years at KU compiled a record of 20 wins - 33 loses. Mangino in his first five years at KU compiled a record of 24 wins - 34 loses. Hmmm...oddly similar for a fantastic coach and an AWFUL one. Well...maybe conference records will be the telling difference. Allen in his five years had a conference record of 10 - 30. Mangino in his first five years had a conference record of 11 - 29....again, hmmmm...Maybe if Allen could have had one more year to coach he too could have gone to the Orange Bowl because, other than the fluke 2007 year, there ain't a dimes worth of difference between the two of them. Now...is Mangino a better coach than Callahan? Hard to prove or disprove that though Callahan did bring in higher ranked recruits than Mangino did and never ran counter to the ethics of the NCAA through academic fraud as happened on Mangino's watch. Looking at the records I'd have to say they are both about even as far as results go...it's just that Nebraska expects more from their football program than KU does apparently. I'll be glad to pit my football knowledge against yours...but you'll probably need to bring some friends to help you out. Are you questioning my fanhood? Does your fanhood need questioning? espn fanhood commercial jayhawk looks like Cy got you there. Besides, far as Im concerned Cy doesnt need to give a inteligent comment, hes Cy the Cyclone, a HB legend. Who are you to contradict what Cy says?
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3255019 Nebraska Cornhuskers Spring practice starts: March 26 Spring game: April 19 What to watch • Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson is back, but he will be challenged to develop wide receivers after the departures of Maurice Purify, Terrence Nunn and Frantz Hardy and H-back Sean Hill. Nate Swift, Todd Peterson and Niles Paul will be vying for playing time at the position. • Can the Cornhuskers get those Blackshirts out of mothballs? We'll see as Bo Pelini will impart his fiery brand of leadership to a group that ranked last in the Big 12 in sacks last season. • Pelini and his new staff will try to light a fire under NT Ndamukong Suh, who badly underachieved last season after a breakout freshman campaign in 2006. Good info. Also on the link there is info for other non-Big XII teams just to the right of KSU's section. Somewhat similar to Drowning In The Sea Of Red's previous post on Big XII power rankings.
  6. At http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2008/0...45769448712.txt it says Nicks is 341 lbs. and ran a 5.01 40. IDK who is right but Id like to think this one is because it will be good for his draft stock.
  7. Great video, loved the speech. Spring game cant come fast enough. Its too bad we dont start practicing earlier, I wish we would cuz were like 2nd to last when it comes to begining the official spring practice. Itd be nice to see Bo move that up a little bit. GBR
  8. Im surprised at how Oklahoma isnt first. Sure they did lose some big playmakers but they had a great class that will have some imediate playing time. Dont forget how deep they are in they wr position, its scary good. Then theres Same Bradford, Id like to see if hell end up like Colt McCoy (great freshman year mediocre sophmore year) although I doubt that. Also I think TTU is a little high. Great offense, horrible defense. Doesnt Mike Leach look awefully like Bill Callahan? He can win when hes supposed to, but cant get it done in the big game, disregarding them upsetting Oklahoma who played like the scout team the entire game. But I am happy with our position in that midrange.
  9. LOL Nice. I have a story similar to that that has just recently happened. As you probably dont know I am 16 and go to a small D-2 school called Coleridge in northeast Nebraska. Our girls bball team recently made it to state (and plays tomarrow). We are taking our band up to play at Lincoln because we do everything in band for instance a couple years ago we marched at the Memorial Day Parade in DC (and I got to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unkown Soldier). Well there was a little blue sheet to sign up to ride the bus down and during choir yesterday a girl in my class named Savannah walks up to it and theres a name someone jokingly put on there. The name was Mike Oxbig (my c$%ks big) so she looks at it and says, " Mike Oxbig? Who is Mike Oxbig? Anybody know Mike Oxbig? Does anybody here know Mike Oxbig?" By this time Im dying out laughing.
  10. They've already taped all the spring practices and the spring game - even though they haven't happened. lmao
  11. Anybody else hear about that Eastern Carolina University RB that ran a 4.24 40? His name slips me but the stat just blew me away. Especially with Mike Hart the once-potential heisman running a 4.67 40. Anyways, I hope that is the kind of speed Pelini is trying to recruit to NU. Speed Kills.
  12. Nice videos. I think I laughed everytime you pancaked someone, which was alot.
  13. I agree with the gist of your post, but I think that accusation is totally unfounded. I think the reason those guys disappeared down on the roster is probably because they had better guys ahead of them. When you have Purify, Nunn, Swift, and Peterson as your top 4, it's hard to squeeze too much more playing time for the rest of the crew. While Purify was good I would call the other three ok and find it disappointing that guys that came in highly touted could not supplant Nunn, Swift or Pederson. Nunn had a disappointing 07 year after he had a relatively great 06 year. You have to remember that Nunn had ample playing time in Callahan's system as a freshman. Callahan once stated in the OWH that Nunn was incredibly athletic and would be a big part of our offense in the future. How did he go from that to barely playing or making any impact on our offense? I would say the coaching is to blame. I mean, the only big time player we had at wr was Purify and even he disappeared from game to game. IMO when the wrs are doing horribly, thats when you put in some of the second team and subs. It will get them some gametime experience so they can prove how good they really are and it motivates the starters to play harder to keep their spot. Callahan simply couldn't get the right players on the field or get them to play at their full potential. It should worry you that the guy coaching the receivers is still here coaching if you're claim of lack of coaching was the problem. Like I said before, it's funny now that NU has two other coaches on this staff that have had more success coaching the WR position then the one we have now are now coaching RB and Tight end. Why be worried about Ted Gilmore? Pelini had to have kept him for some reason. Far as I'm concerned thats all the reason I need for him to be around still. Ted Gilmore has coached such people as- Taylor Stubblefield*NCAA all-time leader in receptions, John Standeford*Big Ten all-time leader in receptions, and D.J. Hackett*set Colorado record wtih 73 receptions 1,013 yards and he transfered from a nearby college beacause their program was discontinued, he walked on to get Big XII first team and voted MVP of Colorado in 2003 season. Though I'm not going to lie that I would like to see Ron Brown as the WR coach, you have to remember that the offense was Callahan's and if the OC Shawn Watson didnt get to do his job you'd have to wonder if WR coach Ted Gilmore did either.

  15. Should Ganz get the starting job, I think more attention will be on the wide-recievers. We obviously got hit big with most of our top wrs leaving due to graduation. Ganz really had a great connection-especially with Mo Purify-with the taller recievers and knew how to use their height against the opposing teams. I think this could mean the emergance of Niles Paul, Will Henry, Chris Brooks, and Menelik Holt who are all 6'1" and up and who weigh 210+. All players (well maybe except niles paul who was a big recruit but is still a freshman) were highly touted recruits but then disappeared in the roster probably due to Callahan's lack of teaching ability and since he is a horrible motivator. With proper coaching and a new offense this race could match that of the qb/entire defense race for a starting spot. GBR!
  16. Nebraska ranked 7th in the country in red zone offense, scoring 90% of the time, 74% TD's. http://www.cfbstats.com/2007/leader/nation...y27/sort01.html To bad Nebraska never got near the red zone during the Oklahoma St, Texas A & M and Missouri game to make this statitic mean anything. I'm just hoping that whoever sent Cody Glen on a crucial 3rd and 2 (after he's been out for at least 4 games) in the Texas game is no longer deciding who plays and what play to call. i agree with REDSTEEL, who wants someone calling the offense if they cant even put the correct players on the field, joe ganz threw for 987 less yards while starting 3 games to kellers 9, also ganz's rushing net was 93 while kellers was -78, to put it simply a big part of us being 7th in the total offensive stats can be credited to ganz or we might have been back in the 20s, all i can say is fate made javario burkes miss that block THANK GOD
  17. heres my predictions for the standing in the Big XII cfb standings at the end of the 2008 year 1.Oklahoma 2.Kansas 3.Mizzou 4.Texas 5.Texas Tech 6.Nebraska 7.Colorado 8.Texas A&M 9.Iowa State 10.Okie State 11.Kansas State 12.Baylor the top 8 teams will get bowl invitations and only oklahoma will get a bcs bid
  18. my answers and reasons mason wald-very possible to see on ST but also on d, pelini uses speed blitzes and this guy fits pelini's style baker steinkuhler-he could play either side on the line depending on which needs him the most will compton-great speed for lb which pelini will like, plus lack of other lb experience will open up lb playing time tyson hetzer-lack of much experience or depth in te department will give him a great chance collins okafor-has said he wont redshirt, shows good work ethic, beck can mold him which will be an advantage to some of the rbs who will be relearning the fundamentals and footwork david whitmore-great instincts, lack of depth in secondary
  19. ganz isnt really the kind of air it out qb that youd usually think of, he likes much more to zip the ball into his receivers in perfect running stride and he isnt afraid to throw it, watch our first couple games and you will notice that I dont' think you know what you're talking about. Keller has forever been herladed as a gunslinger, making the long throws that don't appear to be there. Ganz on the other hand tries to lob the ball to the receiver, he doesn't have much of an arm and hardly ever threw the deep ball...I'm not sure where you got that assessment. how do you think marlon lucky broke the school record for catches in a season? how do you think joe ganz broke school records for passing touchdowns and passing yards in a single game? ganz nearly had more yards passing than keller and didnt even start till after the texas game, ill admit ganz doesnt have an arm as strong as keller but it doesnt mean he wont throw it, i dont know about anybody else but watching keller play half the time id wish hed throw the deep ball that he can (which i never said he couldnt throw) instead of dumping it off to the running back or to the receiver running the quick slant Marlon Lucky's receiving stats were: 6 - 83 - TD vs Kansas 6 - 78 - TD vs KSU 8 - 115 vs CU That's 27% of his receptions for the year in 25% of the year's games. So the difference seems insignificant - though granted, the NU offense was airing it out those games because they had no choice. umm did you watch any of those games? against kansas we pretty much had to throw the ball since the second quarter ill admit that but how many qauterbacks threw for over 400 yards against them besides ganz? against ksu we dominated the entire aspect of the game, we pretty much never had to throw the ball we just chose to, and against colorado we were up until 8:10 left in the third quarter, in all games he threw for more than 450 yards and in the last three games we had our rbs run more downfield routes instead of have them looking for a dump pass, but whether they had to air it out or not makes no difference, the only games we easliy had were nevada and kansas state and all those games where we had to air it out when keller was qb he only thre for more than 300 in 2 games (usc-389 and ball state-422) ganz broke that on his first day as a starter against kansas. now i never said he never threw it to lucky, i just said he liked to go for a better option than the underneath pass which he did
  20. the huskers im sure youve heard have lost to isu, i and maybe most of you had dreams of an ncaa tourney bid after they beat oregon and asu but now those dreams are gone what i want to know is can nu play solid consistent games? doc sadler has pushed the d to great heights but the offense has struggled at times. can nu find a man (besides maric) that can score consistently and really take some pressure off our offense. i know our team is relatively young so do you think there is any hope for the nu team in the near future for them to climb up the ranks of the big 12 and maybe even a tourney bid?
  21. Not overhyped just bogged down by injuries. ohh....thank you for clearing that up...i remember when he was a freshamn theyd say he would be a vital part of our offense and then he kind of disappeared, but anyways i had just figured it was another one on callahans players who he never developed
