  1. Get your head out of the sand. Winston yes, but Knight basically sucked all year and had thr game of his life against Bama. Far as anyone knows he could suck again next year. My head isn't in the sand and my rose colored glasses have been broken. Sure he could suck again. He could also be terrific....again.
  2. This is interesting to me because all of the press outside of NE is shocked Bo still has a job. The only positive press I heard for Bo is from within Nebraska.
  3. Florida State and Oklahoma have freshman quarterbacks. Both are miles ahead of ours. Let's stop using his age as an excuse.
  4. I rewatched the game last night. For some reason, it didn't seem as bad the second time around. He talked a lot about Nebraska's injuries in the first half, but droned on and on about anything Georgia in the second half.
  5. I'm not nearly as optimistic as a lot of your guys. The D played pretty well, but that wouldn't be a story if Georgia's TE could catch a ball. Those 2 drops could have cost them two TD's. There's just no denying that. And the lack of pressure at the end of the game is puzzling at the least. That said, the D-line is miles ahead of where they were early in the year. The passing game was pathetic. Armstrong was 6-14 for 163 yards. That doesn't look horrible until you factor in one of those passes went for 99. Take that away and he's 5-13 for 64 yards. That sure looks a lot different and is more indicative of what the passing game felt like while watching it. Ameer, as usual, was the man. I really hope he comes back. If not, I just don't see how this offense can move the ball. Nobody else is proven. Sure, there may be potential, but potential isn't a sure thing. Ameer is! He turns losses into gains and turns 4 yard gains into 8 yard gains. He has definitely been a delight to watch. I'll be bummed if he leaves. Obviously it's impossible to gauge what will happen next year. I can't help but feel like this team will be much like Bo's teams before Martinez. We'll need to rely on D because the O won't be up to par. I hope I'm wrong.
  6. There are a lot of contradictions in this post. ESPN has a partnership with the SEC. Check ESPN also has a partnership with the B1G and that's why most of our games were on ABC/ESPN. It wouldn't make sense for them to ding us or BTN, since BTN gets the lower tier games anyway and the best B1G games are on ESPN/ABC. As for the Pac 12, they already have a deal with Fox and Fox has been broadcasting their games for two years now. I don't understand why ESPN would butter up the Pac 12 knowing they're in bed with Fox, but then dog BTN because it belongs to Fox. See the contradiction? As for your guarantee, there is an alternative. Fox Sports 1 has been out for roughly 4-6 months now. I never watch it because it's not that good and Fox is struggling to sell it to cable companies. In fact, the only companies that have it are the companies that had Fox's SPEED Network (or something like that). Fox also hoped for roughly $5 per subscriber like ESPN gets. Instead, they're getting the same 70 cents per subscriber that SPEED got. I think UNL fans have an illogical hate for ESPN. They show most of our games. It doesn't make sense for them to hate us. I think some fans just want to hear that our team is the greatest no matter what the truth may be. Though not part of your post, I like to mention that those of us on DirecTV are in for some trouble regarding the BTN. The only reason BTN is part of the sports package is because DirecTV owned BTN when BTN first started broadcasting. Now that they no longer own it, it's going to be interesting to see what happens since DirecTV doesn't carry the Pac 12 Network, SEC Network, Longhorn Network, etc.
  7. I thought all the locker-kicking rumors were ridiculous, but by this point I've heard it from enough people independently without connections to each other, but with connections to boosters and administrators, that I'm pretty certain of its accuracy. Actually heard it was a trash can of some sorts from a very good source. Either way, he kicked something and broke his toes and its true. Assuming that's true, he deserves a Darwin Award for that. He died?
  8. They sacrifice their very well being to play for us and you could care less. These fine young men deserve more respect than you seem to think. Seriously just shame on you. They don't play for us. They play for their own enjoyment and the hope of getting paid at the next level.
  9. Actually, each one of those schools is considered a Public Ivy (obviously excluding Northwestern) and in every meaningful metric the B1G is better than the PAC 12...especially in research. It isn't even close to arguable. Considered by whom? Ask anybody not in academia and they'll look at you like you're from the moon when you talk about "public" ivies. The Ivy League is the Ivy League. It's all about perception. Public Ivy is akin to the world's tallest midget. BTW, you're citing wikifreakinpedia.
  10. "Wisconsin is one of the top 5-7 public research institutions in the United States. It is a research juggernaut. Illinois, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota are also absolute powerhouses in academic research. The B1G is a an extraordinary academic conference --- no other conference (of major sports prominence) is even close." The Pac 12 would argue, but that's not the point. Those schools may indeed be juggernauts (I agree), but they're not considered public ivy league schools.
  11. That's always bugged me about McDonough. Nobody else says it like that, WHY DO YOU??!! Because technically that's how it's pronounced. Mar-Tee-Nez Mar-Tee-Neth in most of Spain and South America. Mar-Tee-Nes everywhere else.
  12. Football doesn't drive the Big Ten like other conferences. Big Ten is first academic. then football would be secondary. I mean that's how maryland and rutgers got it in. based on academics and geography. it certainly hell wasn't their football teams. I think some Husker fans don't understand this concept about the Big Ten. I mean 11 of the 13 schools are considered public ivies. Only us and Purdue aren't while Univ of Chicago is the other school. 13. Since ABC/ESPN gets dibs on the best B1G games, it's hard to see how they're competitors. ESPN gets $5 per subscriber. B1G Network isn't close to that. Let's keep this in context. This is an article from espn.com. It wasn't a story run on the network.
  14. The panel was fun to listen to. Some I totally agreed with some and some I wondered if their brains were receiving enough oxygen . That's what a round table panel should be. The best thing I heard was on the show afterwards. Nick Bahe talked about how Nebraska fans within the state feel as if their program is the only one put under a microscope by fans. I've noticed this same sentiment on this board as well. Living in another state with a high profile program, I know this isn't the case. All major programs are put under the microscope by fans. All programs have yahoos who talk smack to their players on twitter. Alabama has fans that shoot each other for not mourning losses enough. Bahe said the same thing and he's right.
  15. His point was those schools have climbed further in the same six year span.
  16. Tommy Frazier has jumped the shark. What does "jumped the shark" mean? It's a reference to the show "Happy Days." In an episode, Fonzie jumped a shark tank with his motorcycle (IIRC) and the show was said to be over at that point. Edit: St.PaulHusker has a more complete posting. Water skis? Really? I'm getting old.
  17. Monte couldn't stop the spread offense at USC. He ran back to the pros full speed.
  18. 573 yards per game, #2 in the country behind ungodly Baylor. Chip Kelly's offenses surpassed that average in zero of his four seasons there. In fact, it ranks as the most YPG in Oregon history and in the top 10 in FBS history! That surpasses both 1995 Nebraska (556) and 1983 Nebraska (547). If that is not being ready, please please place Tim Beck on the not-ready train as soon as possible. more to being a head coach than putting up good numbers as an OC. conversely there's more to being a head coach than having your offense falter a little as the season goes on. And the fact that said OC was overridden on playcalling duties halfway through the season. Not a fact at all according to the head coach. Just another rumor started and spread here.

If that is not being ready, please please place Tim Beck on the not-ready train as soon as possible. Holy cow. Facts and statistics. Oregon's problem this season was their front 7 on D. The O purred like a kitten until Mariot'a got hurt. Then it was still pretty good.
  20. Pressure from Sugar bowl committee. Why? Because very few Oregon fans traveled to New Orleans.....in other words, half empty seats. Just the opposite for OU fans. Money talks. Plus Stoopies is still a media darling and bed with NCAA Goddess. BTW, 'Bama will flat out KILL OU like 69 to 10. Duck fans would have flocked to that game. What talks is that the Sugar Bowl has a Big12/SEC alliance starting next year.
  21. Johnny Stanton was nicknamed Johnny Football in high school. That is before Johnny "Football" Manziel ever played a college down. So that is no reference or comparison to Stanton and Manziel. Also, Matthew Stafford probably throws a football better than any human on this planet in terms of straight arm talent. He is indeed in the top 3. The comparison is completely absurd and I don't think anyone who has actually watched Stanton play would call him a "prototypical passing QB." Finally, where is this idea that Stanton is going to stretch the field vertically? There is an article out there that I will search for that says he team in high school runs the ball 68% of the time. But when his team passed, 78% of passes were within 10 yards of the LOS. That equal, what, roughly 7% of plays of passes beyond 10 yards. Many of those were probably in the mid range. So we are looking at about 2% of his plays as throwing the ball down field. I wonder the same thing. I watched him at the Elite camp and he's not a passer. He's a runner.
  22. It doesn't matter. The bowls take who they want.
  23. Sandusky was the Penn State coach convicted of homosexual activities with underaged boys. Ron Brown doesn't approve of that. Some people take offense, I guess, of that stance and label that as homophobic, drawing an imaginary line somewhere that excludes Sandusky as homosexual. Hope this helps... Sandusky was convicted of sex crimes against children. Not homosexual activity. Sandusky is a predator. He is not gay.
