  1. I'm not sure I'd want to go to the beaches right around UF. I think you'd discover why they have the mascot they do. Plus it's freaking ridiculously hot and humid in Florida, makes us northerners want to die. You couldn't pay me to go to school in the south.
  2. If Suh has 5 interceptions returned for touchdowns, 5 fumble recoveries for touchdowns, 5 passes caught for touchdowns and 5 rushing touchdowns he will win the Heisman. I guarantee it. That being said, one of the best defensive players ever to play this game (Charles Woodson) still had a difficult time pulling this award in when voting was probably more about ability than glamour than it is today. Suh is probably going to get talked about if he has the hyped year he is projected to. He will win the defensive awards and go #1-5 making some serious cash so what does he care?
  3. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4430003 Not good for the Tigers
  4. I'm pretty sure Callahan booted one of the best players on his team at one point for attempted coteamular strangulation. It happens, some players just don't belong on the team in the end.
  5. Getting another 3 Star Defensive Tackle today is not helping Gundy keeping Wheeler as a recruit. Since we got Vestal, I'd expect Wheeler will drop the Cowboys and come on over our way.
  6. All I care about is whether he is running faster than the guys behind him
  7. Just picked up a commitment from a 4 star DT a la ESPN, who knows if it will have an impact on Wheeler's commitment.
  8. People seem extremely discontent with the status of the program after a number of stressful years. As a result, they seem to expect unrealistic events to occur and use the lack of them to justify criticism. We have recruited on par with our performance. We had a pretty solid list of 3 and 4 stars prior to Keesten departing and it is still admirable. I also notice many 3 and 4 stars we appear to be in high position for. What is the huge deal with our current class? If we filled it out with 3 stars (and 2 stars who later bump to three mid-season) you would all be ecstatic? We have passed on many prospects who you would complain about getting instead of 5-stars and then you complain we don't have them. Just chill, let us win 9-10 games this year and keep building. 10 wins in this era of College football is admirable, and tells of good days to come when you are coming off of a few down years. Most teams don't rebound as fast as we appear to be.
  9. I think you all misunderstand Carricker's usage during his college career. The defensive scheme ended up relegating him to a position which made it much more difficult for him to compile statistics similar to Suh. He was also leaner, faster and possibly stronger in some aspects than Suh. As well, he moved inside to Nose Tackle and put on weight for the Rams. With the addition of Chris Long, I think you will find that Carricker continues to have a productive NFL career, even if he plays for a team which does not allow his abilities to be highlighted. To downplay his abilities because of statistical measurements that do not account for contextual differences is a misuse of mathematics, because even if you were to compute the statistical assumption that Suh is better, you would inherently reject the hypothesis Edit: Not that you could really accept the opposite
  10. Carricker had nice offers, but he was also being recruited by Oregon to play Quarterback and came to Nebraska to play Defensive End. Oh if only he had considered playing Quarterback here.... man it would have been something else.
  11. You're right. With 100% certainty nobody can. At that same time you say many many times, TRUST IN BO. Well, there is a reason that he is higher on our board that plans b, c, or d... Because that same coaching staff you want everyone to have so much faith in also wants Carter more than plans b, c, or d. So, you are in a way contradicting your own requests. Two things: 1. This thread went to pot a long time ago 2. There are too many numbered lists in it as well
  12. You can always have someone there working on the material with you, but in the end you need the drive. Furthermore, not all tutors have the skills or knowledge necessary to provide the students they work with with a quality instructor. This can go unnoticed by support staff and kids can find themselves in these types of situations. Sadly, some students don't have the focus or willingness to succeed academically. It's all about their desire to succeed academically, something that no one in Academic Support Services will be guaranteed to help him with. Life's about choices, some kids don't make adult ones until they are truly adults.
  13. Yeah, but... Nebraska was almost always a top 10 team for as long as those guys could remember. Here are the bowl games and records of the teams prior to 1993 (11-1 loss to FSU in Orange Bowl for NT ): 1992 9-3 Orange Bowl 1991 9-2-1 Orange Bowl 1990 9-3 Citrus Bowl 1989 10-2 Fiesta Bowl 1988 11-2 Orange Bowl 1987 10-2 Fiesta Bowl 1986 10-2 Sugar Bowl 1985 9-3 Fiesta Bowl 1984 10-2 Sugar Bowl 1983 12-1 Orange Bowl 1982 12-1 Orange Bowl etc. Nebraska legitimately started each year with the National Title as the goal and each of those years had a reasonable shot at it, and Nebraska almost always ended the year with a trip to a top Bowl game. Since 2002, you can't say that. The kids today have grown up with a Nebraska that is outside the national attention. Sure some are aware of the past glories, but they know that if they go to Florida, Texas, or Oklahoma they will be playing for chances at the NT. At Nebraska, there is no guarantee. Now, put together another decent year and people might talk about a team on the rise, but right now it looks like just another inconsistent, middle-of-the-pack team. Don't see why everyone is so worried. If we can get back on top of Missouri and Kansas all we need to do is run the table in the north and win our OOC games to be in good standing yearly. Not insurmountable and the recruits will pick up after a few years of this.
  14. He needs to at least pass Geometry this year to graduate. I'm almost certain of this. It's entirely possible, especially if he is in a block scheduling school and has a chance to take an Extended Geometry course that involves 2 periods. Most kids are capable of passing Geometry/Algebra they just don't want to do math because of their preconceptions. Half of the Algebra material is just working on putting things kids already understand in a symbolic context. Most kids know how many hours they gotta work at minimum wage to buy their new iPod, but you write the question on a piece of paper and they are confused.
  15. Well considering Adam Carriker was faster than most DEs, stronger than most DEs, smarter than most DEs, bigger than most DEs and could throw the ball 90 yards... I'd take Carriker as QB anyday. They asked him to but he said no. It was a while before BC knew he was an Oregon QB recruit after he saw Carriker throw the ball a billion yards one practice.
  16. So we have 21 rFR so your saying what happens if 5-10 of the 2009 class don't redshirt leaving Nebraska with over 25 slots in 2013? Hopefully guys will be going pro early because after winning 3 National Titles, there's not much left for them to do in college and they'd like a new challenge. I think most of the class will redshirt. There are a few that we know who've said they are promised chance at special teams if they can't make it into the 2 deep at their position. Otherwise who from the class of 2009 won't? Presumably most of those DBs will get a shot, but how soon will the coaches know I guy isn't likely to make the field? IMHO The strategy of a coach redshirting everyone in year one is good for building a program. (And for a coach that would like to stay employed say in a place that fires coaches after 3.75 years. You'd pretty much want year numbers 4 and 5 to be the best years of your tenure.) The other nice thing is you don't sh#t in the pool in year one (like Rich Rod) by playing freshmen over guys who have been there 4 years. Give them to walk-ons Give what to walk-ons? The 7 extra schollies he is talking about. If you have more schollies than players you will not waste them they'll go to some of the Senior Walk-ons or walk-ons who make the cut by then.

  18. The only thing the coaches have promised as far as QB's is that Cody would be the only QB in this class and they are keeping to that. Martinez has said he'll be given a shot at QB. I wonder if perhaps Cody Green is the only definite QB in the class, as in he will definitely not be changing positions. Martinez on the other hand it truly being recruited as an athlete, and will be given a shot at several positions, one of them being QB. Just my guess. I know what Martinez said and what Martinez wants. What Martinez wants and what the coaches want are two different things right now. If, and only if (and I doubt it happens), Martinez gets a shot at QB, it will be a Prince Amukamara type shot. Just enough to please him before you get moved to another position. That is why if any team steps up with an offer to let him play QB, watch out. Right now, he is not gonna play QB for us regardless of what he says. It almost reminds me of the Joshua Brown thing how he kept telling recruiting sites he was fully qualified already when he was anything but and is still not out of the clear. The only thing the coaches have promised as far as QB's is that Cody would be the only QB in this class and they are keeping to that. According to the article from the LA Times, Martinez stated he will have a chance to compete for the Qb position. Whether or not that happens is yet to be determined, but I'm sure hell be staying a Husker. Like I said, Martinez wants it. Coaches -- not so much. Martinez has more work to do on his mechanics than Cody Green and I think people know my stance on Cody's throwing motion. Take Cody Green, throw out some athleticism, deplete the mechanics even more, take away 4 inches and 50lbs and you have Taylor Martinez. Now don't get that twisted that I'm bagging on Taylor. Kid is an athlete and worthy of his offer, just not as a QB. He can think what he wants about his talent behind center, but if he were as good a QB as he thinks or even some of our fans think, why has he not been pounded by late offers from schools who will let him play QB, no strings attached? Now I get it, we look at him and think he is a complete stud. It's natural we do it, because we do it with everyone of our commits. But if we take the blinders off for a second and look at this without our Husker colored shades, we don't see any other schools knocking on this kids door with an offer just in hopes they may be able to get him to switch. And before someone says maybe Martinez told other schools he was solid and it would not matter -- you show me a school that backs off because a recruit said that and I'll show you a school that can't recruit worth a darn. No school cares, because they all think they will be able to turn a kid if they are persistent enough. But really, Taylor is alot like Cody in the fact his offense was simple with the athletes he had. Simple one read spread option offense. With the athletes he had, his offense was almost too simple to run some times. You come to Nebraska, it is gonna be nowhere near that simple. Watson's offense is complex. People get confused in the fact they think it is moving to a spread attack when in reality Watson is just running the WCO out of a shotgun formation for the most part. He mixes in the zone reads, but it is no way a spread attack. You still have multiple reads, check downs, etc., which makes it tough for ANY quarterback to learn the multiple formations, routes, checks, coverages, audibles and everything else he has to know play-to-play. i have gotta think you are wrong, with all due respect. martinez is a better athlete than cody green judging by his highlights and the fact that he runs a reported 4.4 40 and green only runs a 4.6 40. he will get his shot, the coaches would not be smart if they did not give him his shot. he is a very good athlete and he will get his shot. I still wish we had Carricker playing some QB for us back in the day. He could huck a ball 70 yards on crutches. Some guys can just play football, I wouldn't worry since Martinez looks locked and Cody is already on campus.
  19. That Syracuse visit cracks me up. I mean, really? Makes you wonder .. He's wandering around looking for Turner Gill. Ya mean I just missed him? I used to live by Syracuse. More snow there than you could ever imagine. I doubt a January visit is very friendly to the place.
  20. 100 inch wingspan is impossible. That is a measurement of his standing reach. He places his hands above his head and it basically means his height (close to 80 inches) plus his arms another 20+ inches over his head is his reach. Not an immensely important measurable.
  21. I believe the cutoff is lower for athletes than 950. Isn't 950 the base for a typical student? I think it might be more like 850 or 800 for Athletes but hey, what do I know? Regardless, I like that Bo is building from the inside out. He's picked up some solid linemen on both sides of the ball.
  22. From ESPN.com recruiting section: "Andrew Rodriguez leads off Husker 2010 class Nebraska's first commitment for Class of 2010 is Andrew Rodriguez, an ESPNU 150 Watch List lineman from Aurora, Neb. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound prospect is expected to play on the offense line. He also started on defense while helping Aurora win the Class B State Championship. He told The Independent, "This feels awesome. There's nothing more to ask for. The support from my family, friends and community has been great. The thing is I wanted to stay close to my family, stay close to my friends. It's also one of the top schools to get an education at. It was the best (choice) for me.""
  23. Do we? With Roy and Q being Soph's, and Mendoza being a RFr, we have a lot of young talent at running back. He wouldn't become the main back until his junior year, granted that Roy and Q stay for their senior seasons. I want Giles to become a Husker just as much as everyone else, as he is an electrifying playmaker that could really help our offense, but I wouldn't be discouraged one bit if we didn't land a "big-time" running back commit in this class. I think that next year is the year where we land at least 1 "big time" RB. Just my 2 cents. OMG are you kidding? Roy is a very good RB. Castille has been a disappointment to say the least. Mendoza has done very little to be evaluated on. When we have the chance to recruit a player who has the kind of potential that Giles has we have to put forth our best effort. The reason we recruit players like him is to try to hit one that turns into a killer. If Giles turned into a player like that (1st or 2nd round talent in the draft kind of player) do you honestly thing it would be his junior year before he was the "main back"? If/when we get a player with that kind of talent you can bet your last dollar he will be a contributor immediately. I am not at all comfortable with what we will have at RB next year and any chance we have at players like Giles, McBurse, and Burkhead need to be given a 100% effort, IMO. I thought we were looking pretty good at the RB position next year Not at all. Helu is the only returning rb on this roster who has really shown anything. Even though he has been the most explosive runner by far this year he still isn't getting the kind of carries his play has been deserving of. That makes me worried about whether or not there is something the coaches see that we don't? Castille has been a big disappointment so far. For such a big guy he doesn't run with much authority and is even a liability in the short yardage running game. Oh, and serious fumble problems to boot. Mendoza might be a player next year, but he is largely unproven. He showed well against K-State, but who didn't? K-State has been everyone's whoopin boy this year. Mendoza is also a pretty small guy. As far as Okafor goes, who knows. I've heard bad things about him and good things. He hasn't seen the field so there's no way to make a judgement. This is major college football. If we go into next year with Helu as our top back and Castille as the main backup we could be an injury away from a pretty sorry looking backfield. Maybe you guys see something I don't. Seriously, sell me on next year's backfield and I will change my tune, but I think we are in desperate need of more talent. The same could be said for any other major college football team about them being "one injury away" from a sorry backfield...unless youre USC.. Anyway, I feel next years backfield will be very productive, we have a stable of horses ready to go, with our feature back being Helu. Helu has shown flashes of brilliance over the past 3 games, accounting for 5 scores, and will only continue to get better. While castille causes most of us to hold our breath when he is running, he still has all the capabilities of being a good back. He has great speed for his frame, and he can straight up lay the hurt. If we can cut out the fumbling problems he will be just fine. As far as Mendoza...he played well against Gay-State, but then again, it is Gay-State..it will be tough to tell until the spring on how he looks. I wouldn't be worried at all about our backfield, they will be just fine for years to come...especially if we land Jarvis! GBR! Any stud back programs, sure. Look at USC and Wisconsin. They could have 2 injuries a piece and still have a productive back in the backfield. The spread is making it much more common for backs to be a pivotal force on the field. Traditional offenses did not rely on them in the typical fashion. Then there's always the Barry Sanders of the world who just own face.
  24. With Fulmer on the hotseat, and two premiere backs committed in their class to Tennessee I could see us picking up one as they start to crash and burn. I wouldn't be too worried though, our offense is not based on a stud back anyways and yet we still put up points on just about everybody. OL and Defense are our main concerns in my opinion and we are addressing those nicely. I'd just like to take a moment to quote myself.
