  1. Is it possible A&M could lobby for a 50% share in Texas' profits in their private network and sharing programming? The legislature could make it happen in order to keep them together.
  2. I thought it was pretty classless to put Kinnick on there, a man who died in war.
  3. I'm a bit surprised so many people do not know the employee discounts for tuition remission here at UNL. It is 15 credit hours (half a year) during a calendar year. This means no summer school paid for. A normal student who takes a few summer school classes is bound to pay at least 4,000 on schooling for the year. Still a sizable chunk. Throw in room and board and you're talking about a large amount of money. It's not like you pay peanuts to go here. You get an Athletic scholarship and you save enough money that instead Barney can throw that cash into a downpayment on each of his boys first homes. The overall package must be worth at least 40,000-50,000 over the course of their 4-5 year tenure here. That is just comparing to a faculty member's child. And if you have two children you don't get additional tuition remission if I recall. This means that he would be paying full price (in-state) for two of his kids right now. Now we're talking what, like 20,000 in tuition plus room and board. If you wanted to game the system, you could offer Barney a 25,000 a year raise and he could pay their way. Sure this is easy. The issue is our coaches have pride and morals.
  4. The student section at UW-Madison has a chant: I'm an a-hole, I'm an a-hole I'm an a-hole yes I am but I'd rather be an a-hole than to sit in section O then the freshman section (O) yells back and forth to the rest f#*k you! Eat sh#t! f#*k you! Eat sh#t! They also sit down and grab each other's shoulders and row after one chant/song (forget) Furthermore, one of their songs has some ridiculous lyrics. "If you want to be a badger" http://www.badgerband.com/music/badger.php
  5. Isn't Dana Holgorsen their head coach in waiting? He has 6 alcohol related incidents which may be cause to release him without cost. Then they will need someone new at the end of Stewart's contract.
  6. West Virginia is a name I'd throw out there that would poke around.
  7. What are you Catalan Novelist? Even my Catalan students would post in Spanish

      Street Novelist

I am not Spanish, but I am a fierce FC Barcelona fan and, slowly but surely, I am learning Catalan so I can communicate with my fellow Cules in Spain.

  8. No membership anywhere gives you money. It's that it may be easier to procure grant money from membership. This is much more so with the CIC than the AAU.
  9. Madison as a city is just phenomenal. Quick access to Milwaukee and Chicago. Own decent number of events. Great Taste of the Midwest Beer Fest! Situated around a billion lakes. State Street. Gorgeous campus. Huge party atmosphere if you want it. Good business and good jobs. State Capital so many jobs for lawyers and political types. Lots of green movements for the hippies. Urban areas for those who like it. Great mix of people from all sorts of cultures meaning a great variety of food. Lots of sports activities for those who want them (sailing, fishing, volleyball leagues, kickball leagues, frisbee golf, and traditional sports). Doesn't get terribly hot in the summer. Good football, volleyball, hockey and basketball programs to watch. Close drive to a regulation wiffleball stadium. How many of these do the other cities boast? Only Evanston can even compare and the lake is nothing special, too big. Better to live around a large number of smaller lakes. It just wins in terms of job opportunities and events. The culture is not any better and commuting on tollroads is the worst thing in the world.
  10. No one calls us NU anymore NoDoubt. It is a dying name. Well, no one in Lincoln

  11. This is quite silly. We've had a linear increase in University research funding for some time now. Better than many of our peers. We continue to improve the research standing here while still providing great undergraduate educations. CIC association may also increase our funding. We've got Virology centers, Innovation Campuses, new buildings on campus to house our scientific programs, a now undersized Beadle Center, etc. in recent memory. All while dealing with cuts like many of the state schools on the AAU roster. Sure we're losing Classics. Boohoo. Our University is strong and we continue to produce topnotch research regardless of everything going against us and are attracting a large number of research dollars. Maybe having a Medical School would improve our status, but in the end it's just ridiculousness on the AAU's part which caused us to be in this situation. We obviously are on the bottom end of the list of those universities, so I think we can all understand why it was us. I can't name one university on their lists I would definitively put below us on an Academic scale based on common perception. We are, however, more than capable of upholding the ideals of the AAU and should retain membership. Also, what the hell is with two Canadian members....
  12. Its a 13 year deal I read. That's way too long and the Big Ten will renegotiate and demolish those numbers. The SEC already makes more than this deal I believe and will remain stronger than the 12 into the future.
  13. No, they are just clarifying that this was always the case but making sure it is known that this WAS an infraction based on previous rules I believe. Hence, it is an issue of violations which were unreported.
  14. Use Google Chrome. Stop viewing porn. Virus problems eliminated.
  15. The number it takes to get a scholarship varies year to year based on how many applicants there are from in-state with high ACT scores. Really you'd need a very strong profile outside of the 30 to get it. You would be well off to get a 32+ to improve your chances. I know people with 32s who were not given regents scholarships. That is simply not true. My daughter averaged a 31 and got one. I believe it is ACT and class rank alone. There is not a set amount of scholorships. Whether or not you believe this due to your daughter's situation does not have any merit on the validity of my statement. It is true. I know plenty of students who were in the 30s and did not get full regents scholarships but instead received the Canfield scholarship ($1,000) a year.

  17. Has anyone talked about the fact that there may be legal roadblocks to televising it on BTN? No need to leave themselves open to litigation.
  18. If I were a recruit who was contemplating a trip up to Nebraska for the spring game, why in the hell would I bother when I could watch it on Television and take an official in the fall? Also, making sure people travel from all over Nebraska to the game ensures a better environment for those recruits who do attend. Getting people to come visit Nebraska is hard enough when they don't have the option to stay at home and watch it on the T.V. Can't they just allow the recruits who don't attend to view the video of the game on their site afterwards anyways?
  19. The Big Ten Network is partially (49% I believe) owned by Fox.
  20. Nebraska statute Chapter 53, Article 1, ยง 53-168.06 permits the making of wine, cider, or other alcoholic liquor by a person from fruits, vegetables, or grains, or the product thereof, by simple fermentation and without distillation, if made solely for the use of the maker and his or her family and guests

Good if you don't want to distill. I am pretty sure distilling is illegal in the U.S. Rum and whiskey will be hard to make without distilling!!! However, beer and wine fairly easy to make and can really make some good stuff. I've made my own beer before which was good, and I know a guy who does all kinds of different wines with different berries and fruits. His stuff is really good!!

    3. Judoka

      Judoka

and remember GSG, it's only illegal if you get caught. So don't blow up your basement while trying to make your spirits! lol

      GSG

So you're saying I should make it in your basement?!

  21. In terms of bars, there aren't many worth going to. Iguana's, Sandy's and places like Brother's are probably not game-day type atmospheres. These are simply college kid hangouts during the majority of the year. Barry's is a place I know lots of people go to on game-day (https://barrysbarandgrill.com/Home_Page.html) Also there are huge crowds at the Embassy Suites near the stadium. For food, make sure you hit up Bisonwiches sometime. Their sandwiches are generally thought to be top notch. I am sad that their $1 draw night disappeared though, we used to drink Guinness on tap all night for under $20. They wised up after we showed up at every one of them for a couple months.
  22. Everyone always claims that the Big 10 is slow. Then some kid from Wisconsin chases down one of the fastest runningbacks ever out of Arkansas from behind and it shuts people up for awhile. Then we get back to "the big ten is slow." The big ten has athletes on par with the Big 12. To think so would be your downfall.
  23. How would Bruce Pearl be a good choice for us? He's not even winning 1st round games at Tennessee. I'm fairly certain they have a better BBall history than us.

    1. huskerscott

      huskerscott

He draws interset. Plus he has won games in the tournament. Nebraska hasnt in what 16 years.

Count out everything Tennessee basketball has ever done except for yesterday, and they have the same tradition as us.
