  1. A few of the writers on Jeopardy! are from Nebraska, and there are often questions involving Nebraska and/or the Huskers. I usually get those right.
  2. Exactly. A quiet BCS championship would beat a much hyped and ballyhooed 8-4 season any day.
  3. When it became official that NU had joined the Big 10, the local radio hacks here in the Twin Cities took a break from whining about the Vikings to do a whole hour reflecting on that '83 NU / UM game. It was the most lopsided blowout ever for Minnesota, and there have been a lot of blowouts. I rather enjoyed their recap. The funny thing is how they kept saying that Minneota leads the series, which is true... but the Gophers haven't beat the Huskers since, what, 1960?
  4. The 4th quarter of the '95 Orange Bowl. Two TDs from Schlesinger that finally put Miami away were great, and possibly the moments that we all remember most vividly, but for me, the best moment was when Terry Connealy put Costa on his back after the Huskers took the lead.
  5. Good to know about Tom Reid's. I've been to Joe Senser's a bunch of times, and it does get pretty insane. That's not necessarily a bad thing - there are a ton of NU fans there - but sometimes you just want to sit down and watch the dang game, you know? You have to show up really early if you want a seat at Senser's. Reid's is a lot closer to where I live, and the free drink tickets and ribs thing is intriguing... I'll check it out. Thanks!
  6. Maybe we could get Washington again.
  7. I'm hunting the Elkorn unit too, Hooper area. I'm a non-resident, and I picked up the season choice antlerless permit. $55 for two does ain't bad for a non-resident tag. Most of my group are residents, and have the earn-a-buck tag. From what I've heard from the guys this year, it shouldn't be too tough to get some does down on Saturday morning. I just hope the bucks stick around once the shooting starts. And hey, the game's on after shooting hours draw to a close. That works. Nothing like listening to the Big Red on the radio while gutting a deer.
  8. I hunt Dodge County, too, as a nonresident. Family has some land there on the Elkhorn. I get the season choice permit, which is good for two antlerless deer. They definitely want some does taken out of there, and I'm glad to do my part. The deer herd there is ridiculous. Sooo many deer... I remember when I started hunting, you were lucky to get an either sex tag. It was usually a buck only, and all you'd see were does. Lots of lean years. These days, I expect to have at least one tag filled on the first morning. Quite a change in the last ten or fifteen years. As for big bucks... I don't know. There are big bucks everywhere, but the northeast part of the state is where I'd go. I've known some guys who have taken some monsters near Ponca and Newcastle. The bluffs around the Homer area seem to put out some bruisers too.
  9. They grow football players like we grow soybeans. You know... maybe not our #1 export, but up there. ZZ Top. Okay, stuff after Eliminator was not as good. But whatever. The guys make a lot of neat noise with three dudes. Last time I was in Texas, and this has been a few years ago, so maybe it's changed... as long as you weren't driving the car, you could drink. That's pretty special right there. Nothing like watching vast fields of nothing roll by while knocking back a few American macrobrews. That's three. That was tough. FYI - GW Bush was born in New Haven, Conneticut. Not a native Texan. That could be good, that could be bad... I ain't here to argue either way.
  10. That's what I figured. They showed him landing a couple times, and I swear it knocked the wind out of me too.
  11. I used to live in Nebraska, for the first 20 years of my life. For fun, I fished, watched the Huskers, and went to the mall. Now, I live in Minneapolis. There are all kinds of concerts to see, museums to go to, shows to attend - like, all the time. There are zoos, amusement parks and the biggest shopping mall in the US of A. There are bars, nightclubs, restaurants and shopping centers up the wazoo. On weekends, I fish, watch the Huskers, and occasionally go to Target. Funny how little of a difference it makes when you have a wife, a kid, and a budget...
  12. 1995 vs. Arizona State. NU Received the opening kick. The first play from scrimmage, Clinton Childs busted it right up the middle for 65 yards and a TD. The rest of the game was pretty much the same way... It was 63-21 by halftime, and ended up 77-28.
  13. Can't disagree with any listed so far. One of my all-time favorites was Kenny Walker. To have done all that he did, as a deaf player, was pretty incredible.
  14. It is indeed a long shot. But it's possible. 1- NU always plays tough against Texas. 2- Kickers win games. 3- Defense wins championships. 4- Texas sucks. They think they don't, but they do.
  15. Joe Senser's, 494 & France in Bloomington. A small sea of red among the 10,000 lakes. It's fun. You can find this info in the Plan-it Husker area, too.
  16. The hit was late. Not ejection-worthy, but late. He made a poor decision, and it will probably be pointed out to him. 15 yards was appropriate. I figure hits like that will happen when a defense plays with the right amount of nasty. If you teach these guys to hit hard and be aggressive, you can't punish them when they make a hard, aggressive hit. I wouldn't be surprised if the Big 12 takes issue with the hit, but I doubt it will amount to much.
  17. Yep, Senser's is the spot. It's awesome. Just about everyone there is there for the Husker game. I've only been to the one in Bloomington, off of 494 and France. Go there. You won't be disappointed.
  18. I'm not sure, but it was evident throughout the game that the Blackshirts were very much inside Landry's head. He looked lost and scared at times. Beautiful.
  19. Holy crap, I'm actually going to get to watch this on TV. This is truly a red letter day.
  20. Nebraska will back when no one asks if Nebraska is back anymore.
  21. Looks like it'll be New Belgium's Mothership Wit for this one!! Ding ding! We have a winner. I have far too many favorite beers. I can't even have a top ten list anymore... I just can't decide. It's a good problem to have, I guess. I've started referring to my favorites as "99th percentile beers." Mothership is one of them. Goose Island 312 is another. I'd go with a Boulevard tonight, but since that's brewed in Missouri, I'll have to stay away from it for this game. The beers in my fridge tonight are New Glarus Spotted Cow and Crack'd Wheat. They will do nicely.
  22. If your in MN you can watch on ESPN2's standard Def channel. If you want HD then I don't know what you can do.... ...If I had cable. With a baby on the way, we had to make some cuts. I'm also more than a little upset that ESPN took Monday Night Football away from me, but that's a whole 'nother rant.
  23. I'll be watching the game on the computer again, I guess. A note to ABC/ESPN: Nobody cares about Iowa except Iowans.
  24. ... if every one of Adi's kickoffs go through the endzone, and every Henery punt is unreturnable. ... if Paul can bust loose on a kick or punt return and take it to the house.
