Honestly, I don't see any former Husker players or assistant coaches coming back to NU under the Riley administration. My point is that I don't see Riley going out of his way to hire former Huskers as assistant coaches. He is going to hire guys that he is familiar with and friends of friends. Honestly, I'm ok with either one of those ratios as long as we're winning. Give it some time and I think some of those 7 losses become wins sooner rather than later.I should hope Purdue isn't ever a loss again. But that said, will people be content with 3 to 4 losses a season? All of the BOlievers were apparently content with it. Had a conversation with one of the relatives tonight who still wishes we had Bo. I asked him why, and the response was well the team never gave up on him. My response was the big ten title game vs Wisky or last year vs Wisky. He merely said that it wasn't bad coaching that it was just superior players. Once again I asked how could a walk on from GI be the back up QB for this team. His response well that's not the coaches fault. I find myself having conversations with people like this more often then I'd like to. Not sure if they will ever get it. This year was some of the worst coaching I have seen in some time! I'm beginning to think there's a secret cabal somewhere that is determined to infest HB with trolls. I personally feel that "you" are always in the market...if you can find someone better you need to do that...Coaches recruit players and AD's need to be recruiting coaches.Why would Shawn Eichorst fire Mike Riley even if Chip Kelly was available? The amount of uproar around here would be monumental, even if it was a name like Kelly.By who? Or is it, whom? Fans, boosters, you name it. The logic behind reaching out to Kelly suggests a lack of faith in Riley, yet, Eichorst has spent the last year selling us on why Pelini needed to go and Riley was the guy to replace him. And while I can only speak for myself, I'm not thrilled about having Chip Kelly in Nebraska and I don't think he would be a good fit here. But, that's besides the point. Eichorst is not going to willingly fire Riley unless forced to. I'm not an advocate for getting Riley (I actually like the guy) but why don't you think Kelly would work here? He took over a good program in Oregon and made it an elite program. Honestly most of the players on our roster right now would fit his system well. TA would probably be a very good QB in his system. His name alone would bring in top tier recruits, just like Harbaugh did at Michigan. We have everything he'd need to succeed right away. The biggest drawback in my opinion would be how long would he stay before he jetted and took another shot at the NFL? But, if Kelly gets NU back to a dominant program in a 4-5 year time period, I would take that in an instant. If Kelly does leave, then NU goes after Frost and his similar system. Who knows how Riley wants to stick in the coaching game. I know he's a "young 62-63" and that he's younger than Nick Saban, but man there are times when it's a colder game and Riley looks miserable on the sidelines. It's like he can't wait to get back in the locker room and have a cup of hot cocoa. Let's see...... Bad mouth Riley all season long---- in his first season---- but give Kelly the keys to the house and give him 4-5 years..... And the only time I've seen Riley miserable was when one of his players was being accosted on the field in the bowl game. But then if I wanted to poison the waters against Riley, why I could sound just like a poster who just got banned. Oh, and by the way, if seeing a miserable coach were an issue, I'd be used to it after watching a loon on the sidelines for the seven years prior to Riley.

So because a team was favored over us by less than a touchdown a blowout loss is ok? We have been favored and lost many times over the last handful of years. Its nothing new. Minnesota 2014: NU-10 lost by 4 Iowa 2013: NU -3 lost by 21 Minnesota 2013: NU -10.5 lost by 11 UCLA 2012: NU -5 lost by 6 Wisconsin 2012: NU -3 lost by 39 Northwestern 2011: NU -17.5 lost by 3 Bolded the important part. Riley has essentially lost games we were favored in during his first season as Bo's entire tenure. I get that different people see losses differently, but here's the rub. Pelini had a low floor, but a high ceiling. We traded in a low floor/high ceiling couch for a high floor/low ceiling coach, but at least we competed for championships. To be fair, Riley has also won about as many big games as Bo did his entire tenure. How many top ten teams did Bo beat? One. Mizzou, 2010. Did Bo ever win a bowl game where we were the dog by 7 points? And speaking of Bo's bowl games, I think that list above missed our loss to Washington in the 2010 Holiday bowl. The year we played Washington twice. Why do people keep saying this? Does the order of scoring matter more than the final score? If you swap around the 3rd and 4th quarter scoring would it not be a blowout? I mean, if we had outscored Purdue 29 to 7 in the 3rd quarter, and then had been outscored 21 to 7 would you not consider it a blowout? Was the UCLA game a blowout since we outscored them 30-0 from the end of the 2nd qtr through the beginning of the 4th? Purdue hung 55 point on us, and if not for some garbage TDs would have won by at least 30 points (that's what they were leading by going into the 4th). I understand that the "Nebraska has no talent" fits some of your agendas, but this team has talent. Ucla is a step child in LA and hit by injuries. Our guys are damn good. Sorry, not sorry, if that statement offends you. I've posted many times that Nebraska has a lot of talent, but not across the board or particularly deep, and that can make a difference. Interesting clash of cultures going in in the staff. They came from a pass happy PAC 12 and seemed to homage to smash mouth football only as a sidebar. Will be interesting going into the Spring. I absolutely loved seeing a team get worn down and gasping for breath in the second half.

Special teams played well yesterday, D. Brown's one errant kick and a couple of runbacks by UCLA aside. We can dither about UCLA's run defense but the Bruins' ST players were quality and the team did well. Stanley Morgan had some hard returns and I actually saw a return setup that allowed our returner a chance. I've been on the fence about the value of the ST coach, given his pay but there's no denying that the boys did well yesterday.

I don't know, but Clownahan made a living as an OL coach for quite a while. What the OL did and became under his watch was probably the biggest disappointment of his tenure here. Another huge letdown was what we did with Bake Steinkuhler. He was a four star recruit as an OL, so of course we make him a DL. Callahan wasn't the offensive line coach here. And last I checked he was still making a living in the NFL as an oline coach. For the life of me I can't recall who his oline coach was. Bill Busch?

If some on the board could drop their irrational dislike for the current staff, the answer is kinda simple. The roster is talented and deep in some positions (interior defensive players, wide receivers) and thin and less talented in others (QB, DE, LB). The roster is good in some spots and not so good in others. Does that make it talented or not talented, and how the hell do you decide? According to some Nostradomi on this board roster depth and quality is the fault solely and exclusively of the current staff. I would include the intellectual giant who, in another thread, predicted the current staff will be gone next year. Pretty simple: with similarly talented rosters, a fired coach won north of .700 of his games here. Only when a coach comes in and lays an egg against a very easy schedule do we hear that the talent isn't there to continue 9+ win seasons. Of course, that's not what was said at the time of the firing last year. And it's not the case today, either. The roster isn't perfect, but it's far better than the results that were wrung out of it. Now cue: we only won last year because of a single player arguments. Talent level under Frank was dropping, anyone who is honest can see that. Same with the last staff. MK III Eyeball Detector.
