  1. Guys thanks for the updates on Cole. I'm very excited to see this young man on NU's D-line. Sounds like a true stud and these D-Tackles are priceless. I will always pay more homage/attention to this position over any other position on the football field as this makes or breaks your entire defense. You gotta have a very, very mean streak in you to play this spot. Hopefully he can learn a lot from Suh and Carl while red shirting and filling out.
  2. Again jayhawk please stick to basketball.
  3. And if he'd picked up the f'ing phone instead of ducking the calls, he'd have known about the grayshirt offer a whole lot sooner. I just don't get why the coach is PO'd. He has known about this for a while. I can understand defending the kid, but blasting the university in the process? C'mon man. That coach knows what happened. Coaches are trying to get him into another university. They cannot get him another legit schollie. This is why we cut him loose. The kid was simply not that talented and we f'd up big time with his offer. Thanks for the short and sweet. Went to the rivals board to get the scoop, I love how Husker fans post about recruiting stuff they know nothing about and act holier then thou on this deal. They like to argue on that board about EVERYTHING-
  4. Yea, I agree with your post. I hope he does better, and if the winning comes, so does the recruits. Some of it had to do with the fact that NU was very much underneath the radar. All the W's except for the gator bowl was non televised for the most part. As for your correlation to Va Tech, I would be very, very happy with a program similar to Va Tech's in Lincoln. I would love it and a program to be very proud of. I highly respect Beamer's program at Va Tech. One of the last "True HCs" of CFB that I see it as not coaching for the money or pumping out kids to the league. Yet in the process they do put out some NFL draft picks, 8 last year. Beamer doesn't sell his soul to the devil in getting the blue chippers in the area and they don't run his program. You see the results, they are always a top 20 program for the most part yet tons of "so called" blue chippers in the area leave for top notch recruiting schools. He has good student athletes in his program and he develops talented players. A top 20 recruiting class year after year for NU would be excellent and all we should ask for at NU-IMO. I would be very, very happy with this considering I know all the challenges that face NU. If Bo can develop a program very similar to Va Tech and Beamer I will be a very, very happy NU fan. Miami and FSU thought they would rule that conference before it started, Va Tech has given them complete and utter fits. Would love to see NU give OU, Texas complete fits. I also agree that Bo can develop great football players. I just worry that he won't be able to get the proper raw materials. I used to think talent was everything, but look at FSU and Miami, don't tell me that USC has more talent then those schools. After the Cally years I said I wouldn't worry about it, but it's hard and I can be brainwashed and caught up in it sometimes.
  5. Pelini found out this year he's no longer at LSU or OU, I take it he understood the obstacles before taking the job and again hopefully it doesn't burn him up. Recruiting this year had to have been a shocker given NU had a pretty good year. Turner Gill fully knew everything about NU. Let's not kid ourselves in the recruiting game is no b.s. style, in fact it's all about that. That's what sales is. (See Dan Hawkins at CU and watch out if they have a good season.) They can keep telling you no, commit elsewhere, but you don't stop. There's a reason why Ekeler is a self made millionaire, that guy can sell the hell outta things. Also why he's NU's best recruiter and will always have a job in CFB somewhere. Like John Blake. It has to say something that NU's best recruiters are first year assistant coaches and Tim Beck. Watson is a good recruiter, he pulled in C. Green and Cotton pulling in the majority of the O-line recruits did a good job. That's about it. TO didn't get over the hump until he hired bullsh!ter extraordinaire K. Steele who pulled in tons of studs for him in the early 90s. Maybe Ekeler can be that guy?? I do agree with you about the tradition deal and that the majority of the kids could care less about it. See Notre Dame, Michigan, NU. I don't mean to be doom and gloom but when the Big 12 was formed Texas more or less cut NU's head off. I've come full circle with this and I'm just glad NU and TO got that last MNC in this conference. I've accepted the fact that NU will always have to play with Texas/OU leftovers and will be recruiting on par with Kansas. 8-4 to me is pretty good considering the league NU plays in and the current environment of CFB . Also it could be worse, we could be aTm fans, lost. I agree that we should be happy with who we've got, they are the future of Big Red Football and I hope they have a great experience!!
  6. Isn't Ted Gilmore, NU's WR coach, from the same area of Kansas as this kid?? Also doesn't NU have a couple of kids on roster from Shawnee, Kansas?? It's time for Gilmore to learn the art of selling. Maybe he needs a Tony Robins seminar or something, but that recruiting coordinator tag has to come off sometime and he needs to get his hands dirty. Heck hopefully the self made millionaire Ekeler can teach him how to sell. That guy is a stud!!
  7. If he's playing for Saban or on an SEC he's on the street looking for a new team. Heck many more NU players currently on roster playing for a SEC team may be seen as hit the road jack. You don't produce, good bye.
  8. does nebraska still do that? i thought the southern schools put the kibosh on that we the big xii was formed. That was the Prop 48 kids that Texas screwed us on. It actually really, really hurt NU, KSU Etc... Want I want to know about is what the hell is Okie Lites 504 program??? Seems to me T. Boones U/Gundy devised something to sidestep the Prop 48 kids and get them enrolled without having to go to Juco. Kids like Dez Bryant and William Cole would've went to JUCO without that program. Wonder if they making up some bit about learning disorders or whatnot?? Anyone know what it is, we need it.
  9. this makes no sense Makes perfect sense, if I am right he is saying they change his grades or something like that dude when i was in high school that never worked, not for anyone...im all fine for him qualifying and such, i mean come on what are the chances a teacher passes him because hes a great football player? You might give me the dumdum sign but did either of you go to HS in the South let alone a football powerhouse in the state of Florida that has a great reputation to follow on pumping out kids to D1 football programs. Remember Tallahassee HS recruits players just like any college program does. I went to a powerhouse HS program that annually pumped out D1 recruits in the state of Colorado. I played with Brian Kelly that went to USC and now with the Bucs and the one and only FSU Nole kicker Scott Bently. Remember this tool husker fans?? And yes he was a tool. The guy had absolutely no shot in qualifying yet someway, somehow he's kicking in the national championship game against NU the next year. And this is little ole Colorado I'm talking about. Bury your head in the sand if you want to???
  10. I think I've heard grade issues for him.
  11. That surely wouldn't hurt, but hopefully by that time NU is a running team again. A spread/option running team again. One can hope as the ball controlled passing experiment has produced not much. yes. the ball control offense that we seemed to move to after the mizzou game led us to an OT loss @ TT, a loss @ OU. and wins. good wins. Man i hate that offense..... I assume you want NU to win the Big 12 again, correct?? Possibly before I die play in another MNC game. You're content with the results from last season with the ball controlled passing game?? Please let me know how many championships NU has ever won passing the ball to option based WRs. Furthermore how many stud WR's NU has ever had to get over the hump which this system requires. Also for the North teams that have won the conference, none of them won it with the passing game. Mizzou and a perfect gun slinging system QB throwing the ball to NFL caliber WRs and TE's did nothing......
  12. If this one qualifies for cheesedick you know Auburn has taken off the gloves to fight Saban. K-State was looking to sign him just to place him in a Kansas juco as he has no chance to qualify even to K-State. Now he's dealing with the $EC so all bets are off.
  13. I'll go on record and state that this kid qualifies. He's goes to a football powerhouse HS in Tallahassee and some way, some how against all odds those kids always seem to make it to their D1 destination. Call it good ole fashioned Florida sunshine pumping, he'll get the grades and scores to get into NU. Don't ask me how they pull it off-
  14. That surely wouldn't hurt, but hopefully by that time NU is a running team again. A spread/option running team again. One can hope as the ball controlled passing experiment has produced not much.
  15. Martinez WILL be playing QB for Nebraska, just for Carl at the free safety position calling the defense. Same as HS stud QB Daniel Bullocks. Pelini loves athletic/smart HS QBs to play safety for him because, well, he was one himself then went on to Ohio State to play safety calling the defense. It's not to hard to figure out, Pelini will continue to recruit fast, athletic, smart HS QBs to come to NU to quarterback the defense. His defenses are based on that with stud line play.
  16. Time to pay the rent MUNSON!! Is this Bryon Munson related to this Munson from above??
  17. That and for the stupid Gooner fans that stated Stoops took it easy on Bo in last year's game because they were "Friends", bull skate. When you're making close to $6 million dollars and you're livelihood/fat paycheck is based on winning football games, I don't think you have many friends that are HCs. I guarantee Stoops doesn't just talk to Andrew, he will be all over his little brother Aaron as well trying to sell that package brother deal. Watch, I'm calling it right now that's the bit Stoops is selling.
  18. Checked out the Oregon scout board and there was a thread with his name. Looks like a mess from the information or misinformation that was posted there. Who knows, but the consensus was that he wouldn't graduate in time or make the grades to get into a PAC 10 school/Oregon. Then I went to check out Oregon's commit list and counted 6 of their 17 commits were JC tranfers-
  19. The devil in me thinks this has to be some good natured fun in rubbing/prodding her. Can't believe she bought a pop can from 1981, she must be a keeper in loving CFB/Clemson fan. You gotta respect that. I've only had 1 serious girl friend that liked CFB (I attended CSU from 95-99) she went to Boulder and we watched a number of NU/CU Turkey Day games together. You know how all those went circa 2001, most of them ending similar to last year. She'd get madder then hell after the heart breaking L . After the game I'd try my best to make friends , she wouldn't come around till later on in the night after putting down a couple of beverages. Thought all would be well in the lovin department at night, but she would just do and this while stating she hated Nebraska then went to sleep- For a number of years this happened like clockwork, fun times. I don't want to talk about what happened in 2001, nothing to see
  20. My best HS buddy played in this game in 2000. It used to be played in Hawaii. He was a corner then played for a couple years with the Titans. They give out these stickers to the players to hand out to other players on the team, like a trade deal. Some players put them on their helmets, some just keep the decals. My buddy picked me up a loot full of Nebraska crap from Julius Jackson. All the Nebraska gear had the #50 on it.
  21. I think this post has some clout to it. But B. Jackson had the wiggle and the ability to make people miss that Lucky doesn't have. However Lucky has better speed. Always wondered what Lucky would look like running behind a vintage power running Nebraska O-line?? Hopefully the scouts liked him a lot, I watched the game and he looked like the most explosive player on the field. And maybe Lucky hooks up with that New Jersey guy that does wonders for Huskers at the combines. Hopefully Lucky doesn't fall any further then the 5th round in the draft. Hopefully next year's recruiting class Pelini/Beck can haul in a true blue chipper/game changer at RB. If it's the NFL that these players now want, NU hasn't had a starting RB not to to the league since D. Diedrick whose playing in Canada. I can't think of the last one that didn't go to the NFL???
  22. A problem is that he plays the second most athletically demanding position on the football field while battling 300 lbers on every play. Can't be good on his leg. I'm not putting to many expectations on him next year. Hopefully others can pick up the slack at that other end spot.
  23. I agree totally. NU is playing a passing offense with ball control/option based blocking receivers. When they go up against speed corners, see Clemson, Oklahoma etc they get shut down. BUTTTT, maybe we're seeing a transition to the spread option based running attack where big, tall receivers would be an asset in blocking. I can hope can't I?? The thing with Watson/Gilmore is they may have it in their heads that the passing success they had at CU involved big WR's, McCoy and Hackett, and that's the only way to go. For the record I don't think any North team can win the conference playing the passing game.
  24. Purify IS(was) a much better receiver than Swift, he just doesn't get credit for it because, A. He is not white B. He played whole career under Cally C. He only played two years D. He had off the field issues II'm not sure what the reason is most fans won't give Mo the credit you deserve but, I can gaurentee you, that if you hand Mo and Nates game fields to a pro scout and they will tell you Mo is the better receiver. Don't get me wrong, I like Nate, he's a good player, but he doesn't have half the athletic ability Mo had. I hope B is the correct answer, and as time goes by most people quit punishing the players that played for cally. I agree about the assessment on Purify. He would've wholeheartedly helped his career if he worked substantially harder on his route running. That was the knock on him. Swift, like J. Ganz and T. Petterson worked very, very hard and they all but maxed out their ceiling level.
  25. I don't know if that is accurate or not, but you may be on to something. He turned down an invitation to play in the under armour all american game. That game was sponsored by Scout. So who knows????
