  1. 2 episodes in and she's my favorite. She reminds of Sandra Bullock's character in the Micheal Oher movie.
  2. I started watching season 1 this morning, only half way through the 2nd episode. I have a love/hate with it, I think. I get frustrated watching the kids get "babysat" for the simplest things, like bringing a pencil but no paper. It is annoying. But I also know that that is the way things are. I have kids in my classes that are not "wastes" but just have a hard time even knowing what day of the week it is. Where I'm at: I have a hard time watching kids be disinterested in school when they should know school is required to advance in football. But I want to keep watching to see if they make it. I'm also not sure if I like the coach or not. I'd be all in if he didn't follow up every cussing storm with the Lord's Prayer...That part of him just seems fake to me.
  3. I just watched Lego Batman. It was pretty good!
  4. I would rather vote "wait and see" because I really don't know how this young talent on defense is going to adapt to the new system. And my biggest unknown is how good will Riley's offense really be now that he can supposedly run it his way (minus a true run threat at QB). Using the standard 9 wins bar, I chose pessimistic. Right now, I feel it is more likely this team wins less than 9 games than more. Hopefully I'll be changing my vote by the 3rd weekend in September.
  5. Is Fox News just satire at this point? Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook have been giant since the Bush administration or earlier. I blame Trump for the failure of MySpace...
  6. I remember getting gas about 10 years ago when the price of gas jumped around $.50/gallon. The guy filling up across from me was complaining that it cost him $5.00 more to put in 10 gallons of gas and how it was so outrageous. He was going to go broke!!! He then walked into pay and came out with a bunch of bottled water and gas station snacks (well over $5.00 worth of water and crap). Granted, I don't know the details of his situation, but that interaction left me shaking my head.
  7. Does Trump really think the "Cornhusker Kickback" happened? I honestly think he does. He without a doubt is forming policy based on far-right, fear-mongering, propaganda.
  8. McMullin and Kasich would be a great place to start. If those two came out in the next 6 months announced a Kasich/McMullin ticket to challenge Trump in 2020, that'd be great... (insert "Office Space" gif)
  9. I'm amazed this thread is going to reach 2 pages. Guess it is a welcomed change of pace from the regular sh*tshow we have to discuss
  10. As you have said before. Some of us were trying to explain why it might not be such a stupid complaint and not a reason to complain. But if you just want to vent about it, I'll let you have you peace to do so. +1 to El Diaco's post. I agree, unions can be a pain in the arse. But can also be needed in some professions. Where the "disconnect" comes from, I think, is people equating a "grievance" with a "strike" or "walk out". This was nothing more than a piece of paper filed that someone will have to address at the next negotiation meeting. How much do I know about this situation? What it says in the article. How much do I know about goats and weeds? Actually quite a bit. It's a great idea for the University to use goats in this way. My mother and father are elderly. They hire a lady to come clean weeds out of their landscaping. Every year, they have a guy from down the road put sheep in their wind break to keep the weeds down. I guess the lady cleaning the weeds out of the landscape should file a formal grievance because they don't notify her they are having the sheep delivered. I understand nobody is walking out or striking. No one in this thread has said it isn't. And if your parent's cleaning lady is part of a union; and the windbreak is listed in her job responsibilities in the negotiated terms; then yes, she would most likely let your parents know about it. I'll retell the cleaning lady story in a way that is sympathetic to your parents. Your parents hire a lady and agree to an hourly rate. That cleaning lady took into consideration the cost and time of cleaning out the windbreak and intended to perform the work. She then sees your folks paying someone else money to complete the weed removal. She is still getting paid as if she will perform the work. Your parents are now paying for someone to complete a job that they've already paid for. (Through that lens, it doesn't sound much like saving money)
  11. As you have said before. Some of us were trying to explain why it might not be such a stupid complaint and not a reason to complain. 12. It's ground workers taking care of grounds. That's what grounds workers do. The union isn't filing a grievance because goats are eating weeds. They are more than likely filing a grievance to the University because something that would fall under their scope of work is being hired out. (The debate on what is safer for workers and easier on equipment is another topic all together)
  13. Trump 2015/16: Elect me! Elect me! I'm not one of those crooked politicians selling out to foreign countries like Hillary, and the lobbyists like congress!!!!! Trump 2017: What are you mad about? All politicians do this! smgdh
  14. I'm not laughing about it. It's stupid because it is stupid. Goats eat weeds. That's what the hell they do. Why the hell would they not fence off a place they want cleaned up and let them eat it down? Honestly, I've said before that unions have a purpose and they shouldn't go completely away. But, this is a prime example of why so many people get frustrated with them. It's f'ing goats eating weeds. This union leadership is looking for a fight and this is the best they could come up with. If that's how you choose to look at it, you're right: it is stupid. But if the union is only making sure proper protocols are followed, and using the proper channels to file that grievance, it's not stupid: it's business.
  15. The grievance is because the local union wasn't notified, correct? Not because the goats are "stealing work". That's the way I understand it. I have no problem with anyone filing a grievance. I would assume the union would also like to be notified if the University allowed local volunteers to come and perform work on campus. This really isn't that much different.
  16. When I come up with my opinion on stuff like this, one of the first things I think of is what kind of country I want to live in. And I don't want to live in one with a bunch more poverty and lower life expectancy than what we have now. I'm fine not getting back all I pay into SS if it helps prevent that. Maybe make it an option type of deal? We pay taxes. We elect a government. Government decides how taxes are spent. I fear if we make it an "individualized" issue it will get worse. It sounds kind of heartless, but it's a fact of math: we need people who overpay to make up or people that don't pay enough. If it were "optional", the situation would be worse....
  17. Is it weird that she is my favorite character?
  18. Agreed. How many times since Roe v. Wade has there simultaneously been a Republican President, a Republican majority in Congress, and a "right" leaning Supreme Court? The answer is "more than zero".
  19. The only way I would want to see it happen is if they roll out 100 scientists and it is 97 against 3. But that would probably be a bad idea because a chunk of the public would sympathize with the 3 and feel they are getting picked on.
  20. Rogue One disrespects the craft of storytelling! The originals were okay. TFA does it way, way better. I think warm nostalgia feels is what gets the originals high on most people's lists. To be fair, they were clearly more groundbreaking for their time (especially technically) than TFA. Although I'm not too interested in comparing SFX. It's a plus, but movies can have groundbreaking production value and little else. To the bolded, like hell they are. "The originals were okay" is about all that needed to be said by the likes of you . People who love the originals loved them when they came out and continued to love them. They have been my favorites (out of all movies) throughout my life and not because of nostalgia. There are dozens of movies that I loved as a child that I think are awful now. The Goonies and Star Wars and Indiana Jones are the only ones I can think of that I still love that stood the test of time. You are now my favorite poster.
  21. I've looked before and I want to say (not 100% sure) an incumbent has only been challenged twice before. The incumbent won both primaries but went on to lose the general election.
  22. I would love a head to head primary in the GOP. Not the 19 candidate crapshow we had last time. Just 2 or 3 guys actually talking about things instead of trying to get 3 or 4 soundbites out of a debate.
  23. I really hope someone like Kasich makes a run. I would be ecstatic if Trump decided not to run at all, I don't care what excuse he would give. It would be a lot less stressful not having the "there is no way he can win, right?" conversations again.
