  1. It did somewhat. But eventually, all schools would have been considered "underachieving" because of the AYP requirements.
  2. Moiraine, you are correct. The Selective Service registration is used to create a database for a potential draft. And currently only men are required to register. A man that fails to register can be denied certain benefits like subsidized school loans, certain jobs, etc. I'm assuming that that may be what BRB and Husker15 are referring to. However, the President or military can't change that to include women. The Selective Service Act would have to be amended by Congress. So, instead of venting on Huskerboard, Husker15 should be venting to his Congressman. Why must men register: https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Why-Register Women and the draft: https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Women-And-Draft
  3. I think you both are right. It's kind of the point of the article; Nebraska was able to do good things, but turnovers negated a lot of those.
  4. We just stood in 24-degree weather, with a 15-mph wind, for four hours at the Iowa game. I think you Californians can handle some light jacket weather for this one. Yeah, no kidding. My 5 y/o took it like a champ in his first time ever being in below freezing temps. We had to go to the apparel store after the 1st Q and buy extra socks because his feet were freezing. He had an absolute blast though, all huddled up in his blanket with mom and dad. He made sure to stand up when the crowd did, yelled his little head off, and told the Iowa fans good game on the way out. Baptism by fire I guess. What position do you project him to play? I see a CB or safety, frame is too small for a lineman. He is 5... U r guud @ sarcasm #jk Maybe if I had used #floridaspeed it would have been obvious. No, not #floridaspeed. He looks more like #footballsmart, #gymrat, #weswelker2.0, etc..... Something more along those lines....
  5. NO. ARGUE MORE. :ahhhhhhhh :ahhhhhhhh You're using periods when the context of your post clearly demands exclamation points. AT LEAST THE WAY I READ IT!!!!!!
  6. okay???....so, we're agreeing to agree then???? sounds cool, let's do it! Let's agree!!
  7. I'll reference you to my post, #39. According to the Executive Director of the National District Attorney's Association, Kelly's wording was on point. I agree it was on point. His words were appropriate for most laypeople and all justice system professionals. However, may I reference you to post #29 where Husker Psycho admits he would feel differently if different words were used. The most important job of a prosecutor is to determine if there is a case or not. A peripheral job function is to relay information to the public in a way to make them feel comforted and that justice is being served. Did he do his "most important" job?: yes Did he accomplish the public comfort?: in most cases yes, but some questionable...
  8. Cmon guys, the poll only has 12,934 votes.... The other 318 million (minus 12,934) people in the USA saw the poll and laughed. Thinking to themselves, "who is this ESPN, and why do they doubt Nebraska???!!!"
  9. Yes But he didn't say that. The term he used was not in his authority... and if the prosecutor does not know what his own authority is then that is very troubling. I say "god dammit" a lot, that isn't in my authority.... Hopefully God doesn't rework his methods because of a few wrong words I chose. I would hate to see that spilled beer actually go to hell...when I can just sip it up off the table, or floor... Lawyers stock and trade are words. The "prosecutor" is the number one weakest link in our criminal justice system. That position has been mishandled-abused more than any other in our legal system and the result has been a disaster for many victims. I'm not taking sides in this issue, my comments are about the prosecutors actions and words. His "actions and words" don't change the evidence or lack thereof in this case, however. He misspoke, I think we all agree he could have chosen wiser words; or the reporters could have paraphrased better. Bottom line: the prosecutor is paid to look at evidence and present a case if there is enough damnig evidence. It is his/her discretion; some do a great job, some don't. But just because they word one sentence poorly doesn't mean the justict system has to take a case with insufficient evidence when the only outcome will be wasted taxpayer time and money. I understand we are talking about a sensitive case here because we are on a Husker forum, but I hope that standard is true across all crimes.
  10. Yes But he didn't say that. The term he used was not in his authority... and if the prosecutor does not know what his own authority is then that is very troubling. 11. Husker Psycho, would it have sounded better if the prosecutor said "we did not find enough evidence to substansiate a case" ? It probably should have been stated that way, but it wasn't. If the DA doesn't feel confident, I know I wouldn't want to miss work to sit in on that jury.
  12. That's an interesting perspective. I hope that UNL does a good job here -- football issues totally aside. I'd expect them to, but this seems like such a recent thing for college administrations, and it's not all of them that handle it well. This quote, if that's what was said, stood out to me. While that may be the standard for a criminal investigation, preponderance is all that is needed in a civil investigation. If there is justice that needs serving, I hope football convenience is the last thing on anybody's minds. I stayed out of the original thread completely. But the comment by the prosecutor is very troubling. He-they claimed not enough proof "beyond a reasonable doubt". The problem with that as I understand it is that it's not the prosecutors job to make that decision... that's the job of a jury. It would appear that the prosecutors have anointed themselves as prosecutor and jury. I don't ever remember seeing a prosecutor say something like that about filing charges. Plus it would appear to say that in fact there was some evidence just not enough for the prosecutor-jury-deciders. That's why we have jury's. The prosecutor seems to have overstepped his authority. I'm not taking sides in this... but the statement by the prosecutor is troubling. I'm pretty sure that's not how things are supposed to work. I thought the same thing when I first read the quotes, but then thought about what a prosecutor does. The DA looks at evidence to build a case that will stand up in court. His/her goal is to present a case to the jury that make them believe "beyond a reasonable doubt" that a person committed a crime. If the prosecutor doesn't see enough evidence to even convince himself, with an admitted bias, it would be wasteful to present it to a jury that supposed to play devil's advocate and make sure all bases are covered before a conviction is delivered. At least, I hope that's how it works
  13. It's not like you keep changing your position, and I intentionally pick the opposite one just to spite you. Your position is consistent, and so is mine. I think it's pretty foolish to think that you earned everything you've ever accomplished in life 100% without any benefit from your upbringing or your community or hundreds of other factors. It's fine if you don't agree with me, but actually ask yourself, is the kid that grew up with a single crack-addicted mom in project housing getting a terrible education from a poor school district entirely to blame for not having a good job, good mental health and a consistent, comfortable life? People are created equal but they are born into drastically unequal circumstances. Even for those of us who worked at jobs and paid our own way through school? Yes, even you guys That is unless you were fully responsible for getting yourself ready for kindergarten and seeing to it that you got yourself there everyday. Also making sure you did your own shopping at a store not called Goodwill. Getting yourself seen by a family physician and not a convenient clinic. I believe it is also likely that someone read you bedtime stories and made sure you got your homework done. I'm making a huge assumption that responsibilty was effectively modeled for you to put you in a position to work and pay for your own school. Congrats to you, and also congrats to your parents for "giving" and "helping" throughout your formative years. That said, there are families of all colors and creeds who are poor and unable to provide good parenting; either by choice or circumstance. But countless studies have shown that those families are far less likely to be white and more likely to be a minority. Yes, it is socio-economic. Being poor is hard! But why are white people less likely to be poor? Are white people smarter, bigger, stronger, faster than their minorty counterparts? (Nuance: "you" doesn't mean you exclusively. It includes all of us that worked and payed, in my case still paying, our own tuition and bills)
  14. You will also find them on the campuses across aMErica in the Liberal/Progressive/Socialist Free Zones. I'm not sure if I get it. The way I read this: Liberal Free, Progressive Free and Socialist Free. I.e. the only asshats in the world exist in places where there are no liberals, progressives or socialists. I have to say you are so wrong. There are plenty of liberal, progressive and socialist asshats, just like there are plenty of non liberal, non progressive and non socialist asshats. Well we're certainly entitled to our opinion, aren't we. While we're at it, if it took and day and a half for a chicken and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long would it take for a grasshopper on crutches to kick the dill seed's out of a pickle? Pickles have unfertile cucumber seeds....that's not an opinion
  15. I saw a link on FB that he was showing movement in hospital....Hopefully he has a quick and full recovery!
  16. Let me put this in a way some of you people may understand. Religions don't kill people. People kill people. Are we done now?
  17. What are moderate Muslims supposed to do? Wage war against ISIS? That is an unfair expectation and unrealistic. Yes, ISIS is a Muslim faction. Yes, they commit atrocities in the "name of Islam". Like Moraine mentioned above, the reason they feel the need or ability to commit these acts is because of a lack of stability and moderate power in that part of the world. I'm sure there are groups of Christians in this country, who if not held in check by a stable government/military, would round up homosexuals by the 10's of thousands to execute them. Actually, I'm pretty sure that group had a rally in Iowa last week with a few Presidential candidates attending (link). BTW: I'm Christian, and this is me denouncing that group in Iowa. About all I can do except vote, I'm not sure ISIS is running a democracy though. Like others have said, it isn't about "religion". It is about a group of extremists who use a religion as cover to wage a disgusting and inhuman war against anyone who wants to take their power away. Moderate Muslims can denounce it, and they have. But not many pay attention to the 99.99% of peaceful Muslims, because well, it just doesn't fit a narrative. http://www.globalresearch.ca/muslim-leaders-worldwide-condemn-isis/5397364 http://www.ibtimes.com/isis-ramadan-war-muslim-leaders-condemn-islamic-state-attacks-call-holy-month-time-1990904 Just use that Google tool and type in "Muslims denounce ISIS" that list is not short.....
  18. He need to change his religion Please tell me you forgot to add a little sign that signifies normally obvious sarcasm.
  19. LOL! This actually happened. I don't recall the whole story, something about going way to fast and maybe hitting something in the water. Got a link to prove it? Post a video, or it didn't happen!!
  20. With school colors of black and "gold" no less.....that resides in a state that borders Nebraska.... I feel a cleanse coming on!
  21. Thanks for posting! To those interested, I'll even let you keep the beer fridge that is in the garage....
  22. It's just too bad that a visiting, retired ball coach has more cache than the current Nebraska head coach. +1
