  1. Ahh yes, I was waiting for this argument about defenses to start. *cracks knuckles* So, in 2007, Nebraska finishes with what, the worst defense in the Big 12 and one of the worst nationally? Then, in ONE year's time, Nebraska's defense ends up being second in the Big 12, out-defensing the likes of teams that have had their DC's in place for years (the entire B12 North). Hell, Nebraska's defense was almost better than Muschamp's, and he's supposed to be one of the best defensive minds in the Big 12 and the future HC of Texas. Pelini jumped the defense 50+ spots in the national rankings. Without question, Bo Pelini is the best defensive mind in the Big 12. You saw what he did in one year with guy's he didn't pick, and now this year some of his hand picked defensive guys will be making starts. It's pretty embarrassing that 10 Big 12 teams got outplayed defensively by a guy who has only been here one year, so any other team hounding our defense (and isn't Texas) obviously forgot their own. Nebraska's winning strategy: get a shutout defense, have a point-producing offense with some playmakers, but DON'T make the offense the priority. Championships are won with defense, and everybody seems to think their offense should be the bragging point. OU was the team that couldn't be stopped offensively. The team that put up 60+ points all year couldn't even put up 20 against Florida. I expect Nebraska to be top 30 defensively next year, and there is no way (if my projection is correct) Kansas will take out Nebraska with our defense, it just won't happen.
  2. Haha I remember how awesome I felt seeing Husker players in everyday places and just going googly-eyed. Now I see about 5 on my way too and from class every day, so I'm kind of a bid deal
  3. I think our season depends immensely on what we do in the VaTech game. If we beat VaTech, I'm positive the only other teams we will lose to are OU and then possibly one of the North teams. If we lose but compete well and almost win against VaTech, I expect the same season outlook as if we had beaten VaTech. If we lose to VaTech and in an undesirable fashion, I think our B12 North champion hopes could be in trouble.
  4. This won't hurt us. Even Pete Caroll admitted he has pulled scholarships of kids who just wouldn't be the right fit for USC. I bet both sides neglected to remain informative with each other, so it is both sides are to blame. I look at it this way too, though. If we ended up pulling a scholarship and not pursuing him heavily, he probably wasn't somebody we absolutely needed.
  5. I'm sure he'll be seeing starting time considering he already has 1-2 years of playing experience in the JUCO ranks and has proven himself to be a playmaker.
  6. What's up hokie!? Glad to have you on our board, and look forward to future respectful conversations we will be having on here. As long as you're not a Fuffalo, Misery, or OU fan, you'll be treated pretty well around here!
  7. Yeah, this is one of the most ridiculous threads I've ever seen and completely unrealistic. OP, you do know that football players have to get recommendation letters from their high school football coaches in order to play college football. Essentially, you HAVE to play high school football to play in college. So, I don't know enough about Cookie, but he doesn't look like a football player in the least bit ergo I'm guessing he never played high school ball. This should be the last post, so don't feed the troll guys.
  8. It was awesome watching that press conference. I kinda wish Bo had talked a little but about specific players, but I know he is keeping with tradition from last year and treating the entire recruiting class as group of players and not individuals. But still, it's nice to see Nebraska just flowing from day to day activities again like it's nothing new.
  9. Aren't Burkhead and/or Green in the top 100? Or are they just top 100 in their position?
  10. This quote should end this thread right now. Star rankings are 100% overrated. At best, they give a "general" idea at how good a kid is, but they judge it off of high school ability. College is a whole different thing, as we all know. Osborne never had consistently Top 10 ranked recruiting classes, he often found his way into the lower 30's and 20's. He never promised kids playing time, and he never promised stardom, all he promised was that if they worked hard they would reap the benefits in the end. Bo Pelini said today in the Recruiting Press Conference that he didn't promise anything to the players other than a chance to play Nebraska football if they worked hard enough. I would rather take Bo Pelini and his 3 and 4 star guys into battle rather than some guy like Callahan and his nationally ranked classes that underachieve all the way. /edit: What happened to the last great 5 star player we recruited at a high profile position? All he had were moments of greatness, but he was never consistent and had terrible work ethic.
  11. The difference is that in 2007 Nebraska had more talent but had horrible coaching while KU had less talent but far better coaching. In 2008 Nebraska had more talent AND better coaching. Against OU this year we had less talent and good coaching but next year will still have less talent (though we will be deeper than this year) and good coaching. We'll get it closer but I don't expect to beat OU till next cycle - or at least the 2010 Championship Game. Very good analysis, I like everything you said.
  12. Defense will win us championships. If we can have just a consist offense that puts up 30 or so points a game and have a strong, fast, and powerful defense, we will go places. Oklahoma thought they could do it with offense, and the team that scored 60+ all year couldn't even score 20 against a great defense.
  13. I can't wait for signing day tomorrow. Class is over at 11:20, so I'm gonna park myself in front of my computer/t.v. promptly at 2:30 and watch the greatness unfold. Best of luck you to, Killer Cacti!
  14. That was the funniest post I have seen since bruno posted last. Haha well I just couldn't let his post go un-criticized
  15. Think about this..almost half a decade of football in Nebraska has landed us embarrassing losses and teams that could never amount to anything. Sure..we had some good seasons since 2001..but all we did was consistently prove to everybody that we couldn't play with the big dogs. Pelini and future teams have a chance to prove that we've changed, but until we prove something on the FIELD we are fair game for anybody who wants to say we are "going to get dominated". We need to put up or shut up.
  16. This this and this, but nothing else will be cool. Oh and this, this and this, but nothing else other than that will be cool. Oh and this, this, this, this, this..this and this..that and this..oh maybe this..oh yeah and that..but other than that nothing else will be even remotely cool. Give me a break lol. The spring game is just more of something for fun anyways. We're not supposed to shocked and put in awe by anything that happens in that game.
  17. Personally, I don't think he will. But we're not coaches and we're not going to be in practice. If he proves he is the best, then he should start.
  18. I think you are only half right. Helu probably should have redshirted. Castille on the other hand shouldn't have because he was our short yardage muscle due to Glenn being injured the better part of the season. Clownahan didn't RS very intelligently because of the atmosphere that surrounded him. It was win and win now. I think he didn't redshirt many because he was hoping the young guns would be the spark needed to make us winners overnight. He must have forgotten that young players needed development and aren't superstars in a day.
  19. Don't forget we almost beat Texas in 2007, and we were piss poor that year. Texas is very inconsistent defensively. They've had Muschamp for a few years and have still been inconsistent, and our defense turned itself around and came in second, right behind them, in one year. We have the best defensive mind in the Big 12. Arkansas State is going to get pasted, there is no question about it.
  20. Well, and we have no lives I keed, I keed. I think we deserve to win these polls.
  21. NU vs. Texas A&M in 2006. We were down 27-21 with only a couple minutes left to go in the fourth quarter, and Zac Taylor pulled off an amazing drive capped by an unreal Maurice Purify touchdown grab. If we hadn't won that game, we might have finished the season 8-6 and made it to some lesser bowl (where we still might have lost). I know we all probably want to void out any Callahan era game, but you have to admit that was one of the better games Nebraska played in under Callahan and they actually had a comeback victory, something the Huskers from 2004-2008 were not good at accomplishing.
  22. Considering that you can vote in this poll more than once I'm not sure that this is very representative of what people really think. I mean, my buddy said he has voted 10 times with Nebraska number 1 and then added in a bunch of teams like BYU, Syracuse, etc. that he knows won't be getting a lot of votes. It's kinda skewed.
  23. You mean they aren't sitting home on the couch watching "I Love Lucy" and eating Bon Bon's like Mangino does? THEY'RE NOT!?!?
