  1. Local news (channel 7 out of Omaha) sport's guy just said that is was "likely the Sun" but how the hell can he say that this early. To me, that would be the "worst-case scenario".... if we win another, then I think we could end up at the Insight, and if we win out, possible the Alamo and definately the Insight...... based on "nothing" but just my opinion.
  2. Right with you melscott......... Q played well, ran hard.....but I too was holding my breath.... but if we are willing to bash, we must be willing to pat on the back, and today he earned a pat.
  3. Wasn't going to bring this topic up because it belongs in "rumorville", but I did hear something this week. My wife gets to visit with a lot of former huskers in her line of work, and had lunch with a former husker great this week......sorry, I will not post names or reasons for meetings to save the confidentiality for the players involved, so go ahead and call me out, this is just info from one of the former players (rumors) anyway. In fact, when they had lunch, this player was on the phone with TO....so he is very much in the loop. He talked football and business with my wife, and he told her that 2 assistants would be out at end of season. Of course, being a woman (ha), but an advid Husker fan, she couldn't quite remember who, but thought it was Gilmore and Watson....... Makes sense though..... Brown used to coach all WR-TE so he could take Gilmore and at times Watson's offense hasn't done well, although I think he was a smart "keep" by Pelini, and I think he called a great game again today... Once again, I mentioned Eckler and she said NO, it wasn't him. Remember, Watson-Gilmore were the only 2 hold-overs and usually when that happens, it is only for transition purposes. Rumorville topic.....but because we are bowl eligible and playing fairly well, I am sure that this isn't the time to worry or complain about coaches.... they all need patted on the back and our support.
  4. I love the Rocky movies. This week on AMC, my 8 year old son and I have watched 3 Rocky movies (Rocky week on AMC). Rocky 4 is my favorite, vs the Russian.
  5. granted, NU needs to get at least 1 more win, and I am more supersticious (sp) than anyone, so I hate (but love) to talk about bowls. I love bowl games. On 1620 the zone today (omaha sports radio) the guys mentioned the Sun Bowl, Insight Bowl in Pheonix, and even mentioned that if NU could win out, that the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day was still in the picture. The Gator Bowl could take ND, but if they only have 6 wins and NU has 8, then the Gator bowl may be interested in NU... Putting the cart way ahead of the horse, but has anyone heard anything else?
  6. One of my assistant coaches is a big KSU fan (why I haven't fired him is beyond me), but he for one is glad Prince is gone. He has wanted this day to come for over a year now. He said sources in Manhatten all point to KSU going after Patterson. But didn't he turn down a ton of money to go to Minnesota last year. Patterson did play at KSU, so there is a connection here. Any chance Fulmer or Willingham take a look? Travis Justice (douche) commented by saying KSU should hire Turner Gill. I would love to see them struggle through the years trying to build a program. Also mentioned that AD may be gone too soon. Suggested that KSU may try to talk Snyder into becoming AD, like Osborne. All of this is just RUMORS from KSU.
  7. Hey, some agreed with me, some didn't.........and over 50 hits, not a bad topic....... Someof you guys need to relax a little, being "over-defensive" shows a little bit of "you may be right, but we hate BC so much that we are afraid to admit it"... Being mad at a call by an official on the field........ by the way......is APPLES TO APPLES......not as the pulling a gun in different circumstances example from "left field".... BC gets mad at a call, does a "throat-slash" and is called under carpet Bo gets mad at a call, gets a crucial 15 yd penalty and consistantly looks like an a$$ game after game , yet he is called passionate...... By the way, obviously TO thinks that Bo needs to cool it, because Bo came out and said that for the image of the program, he would "cool it"..... but I am sure some of you will say TO is wrong too. This is a "double standard" like it or not !!!! Same situation...sidelines in a game, mad at a call !!!!!!
  8. Probably the best comment yet imo...and has nothing to do with Oklahoma Husker agreeing or disagreeing, just I think that he has nailed it on the head. Nu fans like Bo better as a person.
  9. my point is .... I am NOT comparing coaches, I am comparing "situations" in which I feel that some NU fans have a "double standard"...... there is NO comparison between coaches. Are you guys saying that if BC took away "blackshirts" in year 1 that most people would have been okay with it.... This is my ONLY question ! And I am saying that the way people reacted to the defense being "out of position" in yr. 1 looks very similar to the defense "being out of position" this yr. vs MU and OU.... No comparison between coaches... Bo will coach circles around BC.... I am just stating that I think Bo gets a little slack because he has been here before... and if you are going to call out 1 coach for his actions (situations), then go ahead and call out the other.
  10. Wow.........it amazes me how many people will take the "original thread" or don't take the time to read it before they throw in their two cents... I never questioned anything about the team's record, progress or even the coach's ability. In fact, I made it extremely clear that I support Bo. Yet, people have use "record", "lack of talent", "games left", "bowling", etc.... just to argue something that wasn't even in question. Please read the original post. Not saying that I expect everyone or anyone to agree, nor do I have a problem with those who don't..... I thought that is what discussion boards where about. But, you will not convince me that if BC took away the Blackshirts, that most (if not all) would have said "he has no since of NU history"..... and that BC's defense looked helpless in blowouts in season one, and so does Bo's at times...but we have different opinions.... I think Bo really over does his antics on the sideline, even getting penalties, yet some will make excuses for him and not for BC. Those are the only 3 examples I used !!! Anyone who has brought in the record, progress and everything else has taken the thread in another direction on their own.
  11. Good comments.......... Yes, this thread is relevant.....some of you must have forgotten BC's 1st year. Go back and check your notes on how we didn't qualify for a bowl, traditions being lost, blah, blah, blah...... I am comparing year 1 to year 1........ Once again, I love Bo's passion and think he is twice the coach BC is and glad he is here. I just see a "double standard" among some of the people who post, which is completely okay..... just stated my opinion.
  12. Let me start by saying that I support Bo and think he will bring Nu back into the top 25 and higher........but just for debate purposes and to get the board going......... Do you think that Bo is getting a little "benefit of the doubt" just because he has coached here in the past. I have a hard time believing that everyone who is "defending" some of the issues this season wouldn't be blasting BC under the same circumstances... examples: MU and OU blowouts: BC would have been thrown under the bus...guaranteed...Bo is still building is what the consensus seems to be. (yes, our guys haven't given up, I will say that), but obviously, the game-plans have been simarly anemic Bo's actions on sidelines: BC got thrown under bus for throat-slach and hillbilly remark, but Bo actually gets a 15 yd vs VT that cost us big (something BC didnt do). Bo is always yelling and screaming at officials, which to the dismay of some, doesn't always sit well with "mamas" of recruits. Viewed as hot-head and poor sportsmanship. But, many of us (including me) just write it off as "passion". Traditions: If BC would have taken away the blackshirts for the entire year, the State would explode. If you think anything different, then you are dead wrong.....we would say, another tradition that BC is taking away or ruining....but with Bo, we applaud him for being strict and appreciating the tradition. Not letting players talk to media: BC was and would have been blasted. Bo is just protecting and moving forward. Once again, I wouldn't trade Bo for many coaches, especially BC. I am 100 % in support of the change, but as a coach myself, it seems a little funny to sit and read all of the remarks concerning the above issues, especially after reading just the opposite last year at this time.
  13. Be careful calling Sharp a mediocre running back. Everytime I watch him, he impresses me. Runs hard, sees the field well, and has the speed to take it the distance. With NU's defense, I would be very cautious calling anyone "mediocure". We have made a habit of making average players look like all-americans. Remember that VT was ranked 105th in offense, and made us look pretty bad. Reesing, Sharp, and Briscoe are extremely dangerous, and if anyone thinks otherwise, take off the Big Red goggles !!!!!!! I really think that NU can win this game, but this is a dangerous offense that can make our "mediocre" defense look horrible. I would say 50-50 at very best.
  14. Makes you pray that Rickey finds true success in Lincoln and is able to live a happy safe life. If football doesn't play out in his future, hopefully he will stay in the midwest and create a postivie life. Man, I pray for this kid.
  15. Is it just me, or was it just every year in the past, that everyone around the Big 12 would say the only reason Missouri hasn't done better is because of the "Pinkel" factor. Not trying to start any beef with MU fans, because they are obviously a better program at this point than we are, but it's funny that he was the reason for "never being able to win big games" and now, MU is willing to throw $$$$ to keep him. Furthermore, once agian, he hasn't WON anything big, except the North, which I have no problem as a Husker, saying that the North is a very average to poor conference.
  16. As a guy who has followed NU to many bowl games, at this point, I really don't give a crap where they go as long as it isn't Lincoln. (and maybe Boise)..... Besides my "used" to be normal trip, the practice between the regular and bowl season can not be replaced. For that reason only, I would even take Boise (maybe)
  17. Wegher needs to reconsider and come to NU...unfortunately, Iowa is probably going bowling and can use the "re-building" theory with him too. This kid is for real. I would love NU to have him.
  18. I may be way out of the loop, and I am sure there is an obvious answer that I am unaware of, and I apologize in advance, but what happened to Blake Lawrence? Didn't he start a few games last season. Tonight on Big Red Wrap Up, someone questioned our LB depth with Dillard being out, and mentioned Lawrence......then Adrian Fiala (NU color man) put in his two cents and never mentioned Lawrence at all. He said that Koehler, Holt (2 walk-ons) and LaTravis Washington would be the guys who will fill in at OU. He didn't even "touch" on Blake Lawrence. What have I missed? Thanks
  19. I say NO Blackshirts this season. Is this the same board members that wanted to jump off a cliff when MU embarrassed NU. We had a good scheme vs TT and ISU completely sucks. IMO, maybe the worst big 12 team in history (seconded by Travis Justice...local sports guy....who I HATE...but agree with). Let's see how they handle Baylor's QB (which they can), and then see what happens vs Kansas and in Norman. Why hand them out, and then have everyone bad mouthing them later. Makes NO sense. And if the seniors, deserve them, earn it on the field vs top competition. Letting VT (offense was 105) march the field does not "earn" you a blackshirt, senior or not !!!!! If you want tradition, earn it !!!!! It is appreciated a lot more if it is earned. Bo is softening a bit on this though, he did award black "shorts" to the defense yesterday. I think he wants them to know that he appreciates the effort. but they aren't "blackshirt" material yet.
  20. Dont panic on a couple of the RB that we have lost recently in recruiting....Oku and Hilliard..... everything will be fine. Remember, Castille will return, Helu has 2 years left, and Collins Okafor will be a stud. He is redshirting this year and has the total package.
  21. Helu actually got caught from behind twice..... the 1st though was by James Smith, and this kid can flat out fly. He is from council bluffs TJ and I watched him for 4 years at the State Track meet and he is a track kid. At first, I told my wife.... "how the hell did he get caught" , but then when I saw that it was Smith, it made sense. KC husker and I were talking about this after the game. Helu doesn't have the break away, but he is still a good back with a big future. We will miss Lucky. For you nay sayers, he is our only "complete" back. How many times did he save Keller last year with his blitz pick up..... He has the total package...may not be a Heisman caliber, but he is the best we can put on the field right now. When it comes to running, receiving, blocking, and knowing the offense, he is better than the rest at this point.
  22. Hey, I am happy... I have Josh Brown on my fanatsy team, and because of Richie, Brown fg at end was 15 yds further, thus, giving me more points. Just my NU guys workin together to help a die-hard fan's fanatsy team. Way to go Richie, thanks for the help.
  23. I believe it was Tom Lookinbill (sp) national recruiting guru that was on the local radio last week (1620 the zone) and he felt as if Green might be a year or two away, but also compared his size to Terrell Pryor, but admitted that he was not the athlete Pryor is....... basically told nebraska fans to not expect too much too soon, but that Green has a tremendous "upside" and could develop into a "Tommie Frazier" type of QB at Nebraska. Not that I take the "analysts" word as gospel, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Green redshirt and that is why I think Lee will be the guy next year. Hopefully, the guy who said Spano is going to be a stud is correct. Lee gives us a better "running" option in the spread offense.
  24. I am on the fence about the whole going for 2. I can see both arguements. Yes, going for 2 would have shown guts, confidence, and yes we did have momentum. But our success inside the 5 hadn't been great, and we dont have a great track record on 2 point conversions. Remember, we couldn't convert a 4th and 1 earlier. I think if we try and fail, many would question the decision. Going for the kick was safe. Bo probably felt that we could ride the momentum into OT. Especially sinve the D had forced a 3 and out and a 4th and 4 situation on the 2 previous drives. With their kicker struggling and we have Henry, I think he felt confident in OT. The 1st play of OT on the swing/screen killed us and the momentum. I can understand why many would go for 2 and cant argue that a lot, but I think he made the correct decision.
  25. Just creating a topic for hypothetical scenarios........ What if Ganz goes down......is it Lee or Witt......and do either of these guys give us a chance to win. What does anyone know about each... Next year, Lee or Witt, or will it be a newcomer? Cody Green or Spano? I personally think it will be Lee, but not based on much.
