  1. At this point, I sure dislike already "criticizing" our incoming class....these kids have the opportunity to read this board, and I am thrilled that each of these guys chose to come to NU.... I welcome them...... and I would hate for one of these players to read on this board that someone thinks that they will be "a bust" or that they are "over-rated"........talk about a "downer" for a kid that is excited to be a husker.... I think the biggest bust will be Harrison Beck, Rodney Picou, Leon Jackson, and Heath Schuler....
  2. Hey Blackshirt, you're darn right I'll talk football with you...thanks for the response..... I gues that my offensive philosophy is a little conservative....I really to put ourselves in 2nd and long, so I have a tendency to run or throw "safe" (usually screen) passes on 1st down...2nd down really depends on the down and distance...We run the ball probably 75 % of the time...my be the facct that T.O. is my idol and "role model"...(no joke)..... Traditionally, our OL hasn't been the best, so play-action passes are what I live by.....I wish that I could utilize our backs in the passing game more,...other than screens I like misdirection and traps....but with a OL that is questionable, this is common sense.... Defensively, I am really conservative.....Almost to a fault...Now, if a team is flat out going to push it down our throat, then I might as well blitz....but I just hate too blitz on every play, and unless the opponent is "predictable " through scouting, blitzing turns into a "guessing game"...... and man, do I hate it when I "guess" wrong and put our kids in a bad situation... Usually " zone" cover 2..... which is another reason that I don't blitz a ton.. I am open to remarks, suggestions, how people would attack my team, etc...... Believe me, I don't and will not take anything "personal"...if that was the case, I wouldn't be asking to visit....
  3. "shut 'em up.....hard"....... great football movie..... I watch that and the '95 Fiesta Bowl about once every 2-3 weeks.....those two videos keeps me alive in the off-season.
  4. Wake is the game that I would like to go to....... Been to CU more times than I can count, and even those bastards are D!cks, I love to go there.....especially when we kick their A$$.... Texas would be nice, but not probable....
  5. I know that there are a few high school football coaches on this board..... just wanted to know if anyone wanted to talk "shop".... I am always looking for someone to bounce ideas, steal ideas from.... Hell, I don't mean to limit this to high school coaches, anyone who would like to talk strategy, philosophy, or game planning, please chime in... I currently coach at a small school in SWI.....I have coached the 11 man game for 5 years, but 5 years ago, our entire conference/district went to the 8-man game.......Our school was against this, but due to travel reasons, we made the switch... Just curious if anyone wanted a thread to throw ideas around on.....
  6. Thoughts and prayers from SWI...
  7. First and foremost, football is a stinkin' game, and for ANYONE on this board or others to be even thinking about how this effects the FOOTBALL team, is absolutely assinine..... we are talking about a young man who may have had his LIFE in jeopardy..... My next point is that I only hope that this was an "accidental" overdose and not something that he did on purpose..... If he was mentally depressed, I pray that he can over-come his issues and move on and maintain a very happy and productive life.....football or no football..... If this was accidental, I hope he will realize how important LIFE is, and take advantage of everything that he has been given... Good luck to Marlon in his recovery, both physically and mentally....and if he never touches a football again, I hope he is healthy, and if he puts on the pads for the Big Red, then let 'er rip !!!!
  8. My thoughts and prayers with his family and to you BigredIowan... My neighbor and good friend is an Iowa State Patrolman and know the concerns each and everyday that his wife and children have as he does his job..... Not only do I share sympathy to the family, I share respect and thanks to men/women like you BigredIowan for the services you provide...
  9. Shows how addicting "coaching young athletes" can be....... This shows that he is in the profession for all of the right reasons...... He cares about kids, and their development not only on the field, but in life... Very nice to hear the comments he said...I bet his players are pumped up to hear that he changed his mind !!!!!!
  10. I agree with no more "sloppy" second halves of games.....play calling is "subjective" for the most part, depending on the philosophy and result of the plays...... yardage = good call , etc.... It is beginning to approach the time in which the program needs to keep moving forward...... all of the experts (???) seem to think that a coach and staff really need 5 years or better to recruit and to fully implement their system for anyone to get a "true" picture of how successful a program will be.... Don't give me the Urban Meyer crap, because the talent he walked into a Florida is not even comparible to NU...... For the most part, I agree with your assessments.....I don't think that it should be the "judgement" year though....progress yes....this schedule is "killer", so may not be a great year to label it a "hot-seat" year.
  11. KC, first as a buddy, and secondly as a footbal coach and weight-lifting instructor (you noticed I said "instructor", because my skinny ass ain't liftin')..... most of these replies are RIGHT ON THE MONEY.... Just in my opinion......technique is by far the most important thing (if not the ONLY thing he should worry about) at this point..... I would workk on light weight and technique for quite a while (3 months)... then begin increasing the weight very gradually..... The other advice is to start slowly with the entire work-out.....the worst case is that you work too hard, because he is excited, and then wake up sore for the next few days.....soreness is the #1 reason people lose motivation....You don't want him to be sore.. Now, I know your son, and he won't let soreness slow him down, because he wants to succeed, but it will make it more "enjoyable" for him... I am sure his coaches/pe teacher will have some ideas when he begins the school year and season... I really don't even promote lifting until 2nd semester druing their 7th grade year.....then technique only....we begin to push pounds a little more during the summer and then especially late 1st semester 8th grade year. This is all just my opinion.....obviously, nothing different than all of the above posts....Good Luck KC and young KC.....look forward to watching this kid grow and play all sports.....Most of all HAVE FUN !!!
  12. KC... I am there buddy......this time, let's close down BOULDER, officially !!!! One of many great trips in the past..... classic one for sure.
  13. I hate to see him leave....and maybe he will decide to stay in Lincoln... Everyone is right....sign of the times.... and the response about BC knowing good coaches must be correct....everyone seems to want our guys.... Maybe it is a conspiracy nationwide against Nebraska No one wants NU to rebuild the "old continuity" that they once had....because most people know and believe that is why NU was sooooo successful in the past.... it must be a nationwide hatred for the big red
  14. At a first glance, I give the group a B...... it would have been nice to get the two that decom...but thats life... Asante is huge, Paul is a super athlete, but IMO, how can anyone say that Murillo may not be the most important..... last I checked, everyone around the board, state, country thought our CB were the weakest area by far.....securing a CB who is said to be "farther along than Bowman was" is HUGE...... We landed many great athletes.......Does anyone know if any of these guys are in jeopardy of not qualifying academically, thus bringing the class down even farther?
  15. Great news....my family have been very interested in this ordeal....God Bless.... and good luck with other issues at hand.
  16. Absolutely....bigger , faster, and stronger wins most of the time....no questions or arguements from me.... I am just saying that "rankings" are crap, and also a "crap-shoot"..... no telling how many 5 * guys will flop and how many 3* guys will work their butts off and be all-american..... 5* guys seem to think they don't have to work as hard..... Just saying that rankings are based on opinions ........ and we all have them......
  17. Recruiting is important, but it is what kindof kid you get that matters..... I am sure to bet that Boise State and Rutgers didn't have many top #20 classes in the past 5 years..... a bunch of 3 * guys who work their asses off and play as a unit.... Rankings are crap and most people know it.....rankings are for guys like us and media to talk about during the dead period before spring ball.
  18. Very good point gamecocks.....that is the only hazard/risk of filling your class early.... I think that you are absolutely correct on your assessment.
  19. Congrats ........from one alumni to a future alumni.....Welcome aboard... Hey, you announced on letter of intent day.....do you count toward our sholly limit and if so, can you kick, pass, or tackle?
  20. Tommie I dont' recall saying that recruiting wasn't important.......Just saying that the difference from #8-#20 isn't that significant..... I believe that only Texas had a better class....... Not too long ago, we were getting out recruited by 1/2 of the big twelve, including ISU.... Recruiting is important, and that is why the staff is here....but people get too worked up about #8 - #20 and want to start "Trying to find reasons"......reason is , high school kids change their minds......plain and simple.. We obviously were 1-2 guys away from top 10...... (lewis and ross)......
  21. Thank you for all of the hard work...... Great board....
  22. Dave, you are right on..... Don't read into this garbage too much....it is recruiting, that is it...... I absolutely love to follow the entire process, but all it is, is a big guessing game.....none of these kids have shown any abilty to perform at the next level YET... I am not sure that there is a major difference between #8 - # 20..... As far as # of *****,,,, meaningless... if you look at the 4-5 star guys that we had from 2 years ago....a bunch of ego maniacs who are no longer with us, and didn't perform on our team......all hype and nothing else... I am a firm believer that a group of hard working 3 star guys will get more done in the long run....and, these 3 star guys are not already looking at "how quick" can I jump to the NFL.....these guys will probably be 4-5 year players... Everyone, relax......respect the staff's hard work....be thankful for the great athletes we got....and don't dwell on the few that decomitted........Top 15 classes are awesome........ Now I would like a Top 15 finish from the team.
  23. I wonder if any of these people who are hammering BC and/or his staff about losing these commits are even remotely around high school age students at all......these guys are just "kids"......hell, at 17-18, they are so unpredictable and still immature..... BC and staff put together a good class......at the last minute, 2 change their mind.....big deal..... BC had no control over this.... I am sure he is just as surprised and pissed as anyone....kids are kids.. Before anyone gets pissy, I bet other programs lost commits today too....lay off the damn staff for goodness sake....
  24. Before anything is official, I believe that this guy will not be with us...... Man I hope I am wrong...... Ross and Lewis at the last minute would suck big time.... C'mon Ross !!!!
  25. I think as well as Skinner played all year, it isn't a huge loss for them...depth wise, yes, but Skinner led this team to the season they had...Because of injury, this guy didn't do anything.
