  1. And in his freshman year, sCUm's Scott seemed a little injury prone, which is obviously not a good "prone-ness" to have as a RB. Also, I agree with the poster a couple up from here...Rodney Stewart may not have had the stars that Scott had, but he seemed to be destined to be a collegiate star prior to his broken leg (I believe thats what he broke??).
  2. In response to the poster above this...I have been wondering if we shall see the learning curve on the offensive side become smaller (if thats the correct direction for a curve??) because it seems like we have better teachers on the coaching staff then when the Evil Empire was running our Cornhuskers. Just something I have been thinking about. Oh, and it sounds like the Juco WR we signed this class is pretty dang fast and pretty good size. So hopefully we will have a game-changer at the WR position this year to replace Swift...who doesn't get enough credit in my opinion. Just another thought and I know that I drink the and it tastes great.
  3. We need to find a way to get the ball in his hands. It doesn't matter to me how or where, but he has a much quicker burst than our two front-runners at the RB position, and last time I checked the speed of the Florida's often negates the size of teams like Oklahoma. I'm not saying anything against Q or Helu becuase I am a fan of them both, but super-speedy players like Mendoza can negate their size disadvantage by breaking the defenses angles (and ankles). Also, I am not saying start him over Q or Helu, but he appears to have game changing speed, and that sort of speed should be on the field. He would be an awesome situational back in the second half after we (hopefully) wear down the opponents defense with our physical O-Line that began to show up the second half of last season. In summary....get him the ball somehow, and more frequently then last year.
  4. On 1620 (UnSC) Glenn said the references to him as a RB were a typo and he was at the combine as a LB. Also, he only benched (25 reps I think) and will be running at the Nebraska pro-day.
  5. Q: Why does everyone want Green to start? A: Because Green means go!
  6. That's MY name . . . And the street I grew up on.
  7. WOW...they torch him pretty bad. Wow, if even only part of what has been said about Witt is true, I doubt he will ever be a good starting QB. The folks down in Texas are quick to point out he is NOT from there. Beware for any team that takes him in, because the last QB we had transfer in who didn't want to compete after losing the job in spring was Keller....and despite the hype he can't lift Joey's jock! Has anybody else noticed that the last few quarterbacks to leave the program after committing/being here for 1-2 seasons has resulted in that quarterback having a poor career? Beck and Freeman (although Freeman is going to the NFL) are two names that pop into my head. Yeah, it's a product of the hype machine where they don't realize that the QB position is heavily affected by intangibles, such as the ability to lead, and lead by example. That's why Joey is miles better as a QB (IMO) than Keller. Keller has the "physical" tools but couldn't lead a fish to water.

  9. I am pretty sure I heard on UnSC with the Kugler that he was training with Dobson in Lincoln. I believe thats what was said, and yes judging by the new look of the team, especially towards the end of the year, and the results on the field and at the combine for those lucky few it looks like Dobson is a good man to have in our locker room
  10. Good luck but Good riddance....there are plenty of kids who want to play and want to compete to play at Nebraska. We'll be fine, and IMO I think it's better that his intention to leave are known now so that the rest of the offseason and spring drills can be used for players that want to be here. Sounds like the staff is not too hurt about his decision, sounds like they're just letting him walk away, so I imagine whether on talent and/or personality he wasn't adding that much to the team...he definitely wasn't Tommie...ppl like Frazier you learn to get along with or at least deal with. And for the record...when I worked at Mulhall's in the past I frequently helped Tommie, his wife, and kid at the store and he was always very pleasant to work with as long as we didn't make a scene with him being there...he just wanted to stay low-key....which was fine with me because I got to talk to him in person, by myself....I'll stop cheesing now.
  11. Just a thought: I imagine this could have something to do with the future plans regarding the evolution of the offense. I'm not saying we're going to switch to Florida's offense or anything but I bet we're going to continue to have more read-option type situations in the future (based on our qb recruits) and he probably saw the writing on the wall during talks with Watson and others during this off-season. Plus, he was a Cally recruit and BCally is still in New York and Favre has retired...leaving the position wide open.
  12. Of course Leach will be more than fine. If the fire him they owe him ~1 million buyout. He will probably be getting paid 250K to be a OC somewhere next year and then get 2-3 million the year after that to be head coach at TAMU, ND, UCLA or some place in the SEC. If he is fired, I can see ESPN or ABC scrambling to get an analyst contract in place for the 2009 season. I think ESPN, etc, would be beaten to the punch by Long John Silver's....think about it. He could be like their version of Jared (from Subway).
  13. don't see briles doing that. i would UNDERSTAND why he would do it, but don't see it happening. I think the guy they were talking to from Lubbock said that Briles has a clause in his contract specifically for the TTech becoming available. It would be strange this time of year, but it sounded like he had an out in the contract so who knows....
  14. yes, because he'd rather keep it an intimate affair between the staff, the team, the 50,000+ fans and himself. Haha, yeah it was sort of a funny statement by BO, and the guys on UnSC were sort of laughing at it as well, but that was BO's reasoning. I believe he made the comment at the end of the press conference on signing day.
  15. I heard a week ago or so on Unsportsmanlike conduct that BO doesn't want it to turn into a circus (The exact wording I promise).
  16. I heard he's planning on teaching a tackling clinic this spring, since that is what he was good at teaching. One of his aide's is Corey McKeon. (Quote of Kevin Cosgrove, from the article (no plagiarism )): On NU’s statistical rankings in 2007: “I don’t know, I didn’t even look at it, because the way things went down there, it was done before the season was even over. We all knew we were fired before that.” Cosgrove used the 2005 team, which led the nation in sacks, as an example of his success: “In 2005, we led the nation in sacks, and tackles for loss. You have to put a lot of pressure on quarterbacks to do that, don’t you?... We led the nation, not the conference. I think that’s an accomplishment.” The first statement actually sounds like he's saying he gave up on the season, which from a fan who watched seemed to be possible. The second statement shows just how "good" of a teacher he was because (I didn't look up the stats) I don't believe the D was even close to that productive after that year....Another words, the longer the kids were in his system, the worse they got (I apologize for the disrespect to the players AND I rooted for them every game, just FYI). Exhibit A: McKeon looked like he had the potential to be a big time player as a sophomore, then by his senior year I wondered why Dillard wasn't playing ALL the snaps instead of Corey. But, I say thanks to Cosgrove for trying, apologize for the treatment of his kids, and performing at such a low level that we got the BO here in Lincoln to:
  17. Can't say I agree with these statements. Our offense is the same as everybody else's! I'm sorry but I don't see a hole lot of schools using a balanced WC attack like the one run at NU. (And people, we do not run the spread!!!) It's actually pretty unique in the college game right now. Sure there are other WC offenses being run, but no two are alike. Besides if our offense was that common, I doubt we would be 11th in the nation in total offense, and more Big 12 teams would be capable of slowing us down. As for recruiting the same type of athletes as the USCs of the world. Uh, what do you suggest not looking at anyone if they have intrest from another D1 powerhouse? That's a wonderful recruiting strategy. Speed is speed, you have to recruit it no matter where the kids are, or who else may be looking at them. I can't agree with this either. To be technical, and imho, we run a Spest-Coast Offense with a lot of variations. Our offense definitely isn't like any other out there. And didn't Nebraska get chosen for a better bowl against a better opponent this year, even though Mizzou did beat us and make the Big XII championship with their best team ever. Ha, Mizzou and their fans just wishes they were Nebraska. And we don't have Cally anymore, and our team is going to continue to play with passion and hit people. Two things that scare Missouri players/teams. In fairness to Mizzou, the reason they went to a technical "lesser" bowl was because they lost to Kansas but had the tie-breaker over us. That loss to Kansas hurt them, but so did the B12 finale against OU. Either way, however, there is A LOT that goes into bowl pickings, far more than most people realize. Companies that run bowl games follow teams early on and then pick on a better bowl/first pick basis. These companies just don't wait till the end of the season and then pick out of a magic hat, so Missouri really had nothing to do with the fact that the Alamo Bowl chose them, it's just how things unfolded. Well just one more , they got passed over 2 years ago for the Orange Bowl by Kansas.....
  18. Doesn't the power rankings for football in the state of Iowa go something like: 1. Iowa (even though they're in the Big 10...more like Big 2.5) 2. Northern Iowa 4. Iowa State Just wondering, I thought I saw those rankings somewhere??
  19. Answer: b/c he's big enough to do what he wants!

  21. Let us all see what happens to mighty Mizzou now that the chubby QB has left. Also, there OC is gone, which leaves room for Pinkel to Pinkel-it-up again like he did prior to Booger. Third, remember how NU played against Josh Freeman who burned the Huskers for a division "rival". Mizzou's day in the sun is over. The North is now going to be NU vs. KU (provided Mangino stays around.....).
  22. I heard he had permission from Barry Turner to wear #99
  23. Who knows? Hopefully both Rogers and Levorson will do what they need to do to make the best decisions for both of their lives, as that is more important that football...even if it is Husker football (it hurts me to admit that).
