  1. I have respect for Blaine, but I was just so impressed with the D tonight. We were in his face with a lot of quick pressures and when he released the ball short on those little screen plays our defenders were punishing the receiver as he caught the ball. Nice work boys.....
  2. As the minutes turned into quarters and the offense seemed unable to do anything, I must say I got discouraged. So much so that I said outloud...Nebraska lacks the will to win this game. By that, of course, I was talking about the offense and its refusal to buckle the chin strap so to speak and pound the rock. I understand that Helu might not have been 100 percent, but I still feel we should have run it more. I hated watching the defense play a one-sided game and not get any help. When we hit big on the long pass play for a touchdown, I didn't really flinch, for some reason, I didn't really jump for joy. After the second touchdown, I started to feel better, but I was back to being negative as Lee back pedaled and almost got sacked for a huge loss before lofting a touchdown pass to McNeil. I was like Lee, what are you doing...oh, OK, touchdown, well, OK. I loved the last drive when Helu gave me the run game I had been hoping for the whole game. I feel terrible that I was sitting in my living room questioning his toughness. It seemed like he ran from contact at times. To close, I had some mixed emotions. I LOVED the D. HATED the lack of a run game, and found myself hating Watson and Gilmore, seeing them as Callahan holdovers, not guys that I had much confidence in. There. I vented. I love the win, but I must say I hate myself for being negative and I hope we will run it more later. How much should I be hating myself on this stuff guys? Lay it on me. Also, I sure hope Helu is OK. P.S. Anybody draw any comparison between this game and CU vs. NU in 1990? Just a thought.
  3. Why take a shot at Bo? What the....?
  4. LMFAO....the funniest post here!! Nice job. Classic. And Knapp....you're offended by Lawrence Phillips references? That's choice. And here you have jammed us on 'booger' jokes, meth jokes and other assorted off-color humor. Nice job. Were you with Scott Frost when he was hiding in the closet or what????? On an unfortunate note for MU....Frost wasn't hiding in the closet in 1997 in Columbia on fourth down with the game hanging in the balance. Matter of fact, I think the MU defense was hiding in the closet during OT that night because they gave it up faster than a drunken prom date.
  5. I have to say the person who watched the Fiesta Bowl with Florida fans made me laugh. I have been there. A friend of mine, who is a Denver fan, watched a Dallas-Denver game with me. I am a Dallas fan. Anyway, Denver blasted my team and I could tell he didn't know whether to celebrate the big plays or not. He kept saying....awesome...oh, sorry man. And that wasn't really helping much.
  6. Ok.... Going to Columbia, Let's say, at least for the sake of argument, that an MU fan wishes the Huskers well and asks about the state of the team. You start to respond by talking about how well Zac and Roy and Suh are playing and that you are just hoping for a good game against a great Missouri program. Then add this and see what happens...... "I bet you guys are hoping you don't get robbed tonight. *pause* You know, like when you guys thought you had beaten us, only to find out Miracle Matt had caught a touchdown pass. That must have hurt. Kind of like the time you were in Lincoln piled up rediculous yardage totals and still lost. Maybe it won't come down to the down marker people deciding the game again. Man, that Colorado loss had to smart too." It doesn't matter how you say that stuff. It still comes off like you are being a jerk. P.S. Applauding the opponents as they leave the field is good sportsmanship. Calling your Texas friend right after Nebraska takes the Longhorns out behind the woodshed in the Big 12 title game and saying, "Man, what happened to your team? They played so well all year." Now that's being a JERK
  7. How about this example. You walk up to a friend and say the following. "Hey, your a great guy. Matter of fact I think you are much smarter than me, have a better job, live in a nicer home, posess outstanding witt and charm and would be a catch for any woman anywhere in America. That said, I asked your girlfriend out last night. She accepted. Hey, look on the bright side. You are a really great person and I am sure you will find someone else. Besides, you dated this girl for a whole (insert time frame here). Focus on that. "Good luck in finding another girlfriend. We are all rooting for you." How would that wash?
  8. We are arragant. Right. More like you guys are just sore and sick of losing to us. We lead this series by about 30 games. Just think MU fans, all you need to do is win this Thursday at home and you will own a 5-5 series tie with Nebraska in the '00s. And all this while we were on the down swing and you guys were on the up swing. You lost to NU in 2004 when we lost six of 11 games that year. Impressive. We lost to Southern Miss that year for crying out loud. Sure, the series has a black and gold feel to it at the moment, but be honest, if NU runs you off Faurot Field come Thursday, you all will have one thought.....Oh no, here we go again.
  9. Nice MU fan. And you have so much to brag about too. Just look at them Big 12 titles you have. You have more titles than KSU, wait, no you don't. Well you have more titles than CU, wait, no you don't. That's OK, you have more titles than NU, wait, no you don't. To be fair though, we must point out that you have two things that KU and ISU don't got.....a pair of azz kickings in the Big 12 title game. I still remember the MU fan who told me that Brad Smith would deliver a Big 12 title....then said, well Chase will definitely win one. Still waiting MU fan.
  10. Some notes on sportsmanship…… How can a fan demonstrate this admirable trait. First be a fan, not a fanatic. Know your football. Nebraska has a great tradition and a lot of other programs have a great tradition as well. If you are visiting with a Virginia Tech fan, you can demonstrate a knowledge and respect for their program with statements such as, “Hey, I love you guys and your lunch pail football. That’s outstanding. Your coaches are excellent and I love your focus on the special teams aspect of the game.” Make them feel welcome or respect their turf. When going on the road, treat opposing facilities the way you would treat our own back here in Lincoln. If they are at our place, welcome them to the stadium, wish them good luck in the game and tell them about the area so that they know where they can go to get a bite to eat, go shopping or simply have a good time. Cheer for the Huskers, don’t negative cheer or jeer at the opponents. Definitely refrain from any thought of cheering injuries in any way. The crazy cheering after Kelsay used Oklahoma’s QB for a lawn dart was Philly fan like. Yes, it was a good hit, but the guy was obviously hurt on the play. Not cool. Lastly, after the game is over, win or lose, shut your big mouth. No one wants to hear you celebrate, especially if it appears to be rubbing it in to the other team’s fans. And no one wants to hear you whine about how your team got screwed on the call. Oh, and another thing on respect. Dish it out before the results are known. When winning teams start to compliment an opponent too much after the game it can be seen as condescending. Don’t be that guy. Pay your respects before the game and keep your TRAP SHUT afterward. As for the hoping that a team that beats the Huskers does really well for the rest of the season….well, duh. We all wish the Hokies a good season. It is completely stupid to cheer against foes whether they beat you or not. What does it say about our schedule if the teams we beat get blasted by everybody else on their schedule. Saying that you want the Huskers foes, like VT, to lose and lose badly, doesn’t demonstrate classless behavior, it just demonstrates that you are stupid. And it doesn’t need to be pointed out that you aren’t stupid. No need to go to the Hokies board and wish them good luck.
  11. Not to sound ungreatful. But that loss at VT ripped my heart out. It's getting old to have opposing fans come and pat us on the head for being such impressive losers. It doesn't matter if the comments are well intended. They start to grind on the nerves after a while. *pat on the head* *pat on the head* *pat on the head* Good job Huskers, way to take a loss. Come back soon so we can tear your hearts out with less than 30 seconds to go...OK. *pat on the head* *pat on the head* *pat on the head* Sorry, but being a good sport also implies that you don't make these kinds of comments to opposing fans who wanted their team to win the game, not be a good example of how to lose.
  12. We can do this....Yes. We've got a good defense. We've got a decent offensive set up as well. Now we just need to get a run going on recruits that have big time quicks and play making ability. Have some faith. What about this? Maybe we will be more dominant on this go around since our offense will be more diverse and harder to stop.
  13. I know we all hate BG for switching to MU, but he's not a bad signal caller. Of all the QBs that Callahan tried to get, this one is about the only one worth having. I hope we can get in his head and what not, but I would feel much better about our chances if we could beat him up in Lincoln rather than having him surrounded by the friendly confines there in Columbia.
  14. Are you for real on this 11-1 stuff? We lost four games last year, V-Tech, Missouri, T-Tech, and OU. This year we've lost to V-Tech in a game that game down to the final moments. In some ways it was similar to last year in that our offense struggled and turned the ball over and that keyed the Hokie win. We hoped Missouri would be in transition this year with their losses on offense and the loss of the OC. It appears that they are at least close to if not equal to what they were last year. Bad news for us since we got BASHED a year ago, at HOME. We are going to have to play a lot better than we did last year, especially since we have to go to their place. T-Tech could be a chance at revenge since we have them at home and they are not the same team without Harrell and Crabtree. So we could make up for that loss, but we have to travel to Kansas and play a very tough foe in KU. If they beat us down there, the T-Tech win would represent no net gain in the won-lost column. OU dominated us last year, and they will have Bradford back for the rematch. Once again, not good news for us. I think we are going to be 8-4, maybe 9-3. But 11-1....that's a little bit crazy, don't ya think?
  15. It could be argued that the Tigers have more pressure on them to win this game. Missouri needs to find a way to win the Big 12 title, something they haven't come close to doing. A win over Nebraska would be a major step toward getting that chance. A loss to Nebraska might be a signal that whatever gap the Tigers enjoyed the past few years is now gone, and they don't have a title to show for it.
  16. I can't look ahead at all. It is hard for me to see the Huskers winning at Missouri, so I am just hoping that we can find some way to get out of Columbia with a big fat W. If we do that, well, I will think about everything else then.
  17. I have a lot of respect for Turner. He is a winner. I would love to have him at Nebraska as the head coach. I also understand where T.O. is coming from by hiring a defensive guy. Still, I bet Turner would have put together a very strong staff and I know he would have taken the program in the right direction. I thought the classy taped comments from Turner at the 300th sellout were right on. It's good to know that he will always see himself as a Husker. We Miss You Turner. Good luck, my friend.
  18. Is this thread for real? Roy gets into the flow of the game at the expense of Rex. Are we arguing with the numbers he posted? Cody Green knows about a fourth of the offense. Do we really want him taking meaningful snaps now? The defense shut down Tech almost completely, save for the big play. And even then the DB who was burned made a sack on the next play. How is Bo overconfident? How did the defense show it was rattled? Ricky T is just getting to the point where he can be trusted on defense. I think it was widely known that the guy made a lot of mistakes last year. So, again, play people who aren't ready. We want to do that? What we saw from Zac last Saturday was what many of our QBs have gone through in their first season under center. Don't blast him for it until he establishes a pattern of play. Or, in other words, wait til the offseason. If Lee's numbers are bad, then Cody Green can start trying to take the job from him for the 2010 season. Lastly, Bo has nothing in common with Callahan. I can not believe this thread. Turn on the coach already. Nice work everybody.
  19. I will say I lived in western Nebraska at the time and, since our TVs were tuned to Denver media, we heard all about how great CU was even though they hadn't won much at all. And it is interesting to note that, out of the whole ESPN article, CU people are only talking about Sal the football player and his mistake in sleeping with the coach's daughter. They don't say much positive about the guy other than he was good on the field. Proof that they might have used him strictly to build the progam. Maybe CU people didn't even know who Sal was other than Win One for Sal seemed like a good slogan.
  20. Pelini pitched his headset into the bleachers. That's not how I would describe it. Pitched sounds like he wound up and threw it 50 feet. I remember it being more like five feet and more like a toss.
  21. Just read the ESPN article on the 20th anniversary of Sal Aunese's death. I remember 1989, vaugely anyway, and I remember thinking negatively about Sal. Why? Well, to tell the truth, I don't remember. Also remember thinking that CU was a bunch of pretenders and not a good football team in 1989, 1990 and 1991. Saw some footage of a game from back then the other day and thought, "Hey, CU wasn't all that bad." Was I just blinded by Big Red devotion or did CU did something so obnoxious as to draw hate? What was it? Just trying to make sense of it. Thanks for any help.
  22. This issue goes to credability and trust. Sure, the fans want wins, but the fan also wants to be told the truth. When a coach declines to answer a question, or elaborate on a point, he has a reason for doing that. He doesn't just answer the questions he likes, or every fourth one, or some other random pattern. As time goes by, a coach will be judged by how honesty and success. IF the reason for not answering questions or elaborating appears to point to a pattern of the coach showing concern for players and attempting to foster a winning atmosphere, then the coach is respected more by fans. IF the reason for not answering or elaborating appears to be an attempt by the coach to cover up for his mistakes, mistakes that lost the game or set the program back, then fans hate the coach. I think Bo has the best of intentions for the Husker program. He is not immune from making a mistake or being a jerk to people, but who is? And he has shown a pattern, so far, of not covering for his mistakes. He owns up to his screw ups. As far as the media goes, the relationship between coach and reporter amuses me greatly, especially at places like Nebraska. Realize this...most reporters want the teams they write about to win because, well, who wants to talk to pissed off people all the time. Also realize that these people are charged with writing assignments for the team they cover and, at times, the picking can be pretty lean when it comes to topics. Reporters are forced, IMO, to go to way to many pressers, especially in spring and fall ball. Crazy questions come out when there is seeminly nothing worth asking. Also, know that reporters in a press conference roll their eyes right along with the fans when one of their colleagues asks a lame-O question.
  23. Before the game, I posted a prediction of 42-14 or 42-17 in favor of the Huskers. I was confident in our defense, our special teams, and our offense. The defense and special teams played just as I hoped. The offense moved the ball between the 20s well and had six chances to score. They came away with 15 points. Efficiency in the red zone killed my prediction. If we would have just scored one TD, we would have taken the game. Had we been perfect in the red zone, well, my prediction of 42-17 would have been DEAD ON. That doesn't ease the pain, and I certainly hope the scoring issues were just a one-game problem, but I thought I would note that the confidence I had in the team was not totally misplaced.
  24. Hey, Virginia Tech, did you feel that? That tap on the back. It's Bo and the Huskers. We are gonna make you cry!!!!
  25. lunchpail Do you have to be drunk or high to believe in the Huskers? This is a Husker site you know. What you got for a score....100-0 Va Tech. Oh yea, you just keep believing in the Hokies. They dominated us so much last year while we were adjusting to a first year coach. And there is a great reason to believe in them this year...why they lost in a close game to Alabama, which ended last year with a loss to Utah. And besides, they demolished Marshall. Yes, Marshall. And they play in one of the toughest leagues in the country, right? Yea, all the evidence is in....Nebraska is DOOOMED. By the way, tell Coach Hawk hello the next time you see him....Buff fan.
