  1. From another Husker message board, here's my take on the North, in order of finish: Nebraska - 19 starters return, however, lots of questions with the offense. The secondary could be one of the nation's best. Conference games against Texas, Missouri, and AtM loom to be big challenges if they want a return trip to Dallas and the Big 12 CCG. Missouri - 17 starters return. They should start the season 5-0, but is followed by AtM, OU, NU, and TT in 4 consecutive weeks...ouch. Kansas St - 14 starters returning, including one of the league's best RB's. Kansas - 17 starters returning (including 8 on offense - all they lost was Reesing, Meier, and Briscoe? ). How will this team respond to Turner? They could start the season 4-1 or 3-2, first 5 games are ND St, Georgia Tech, Southern Miss, New Mexico St, and Baylor. Colorado - 17 starers returning. Just a hard, hard team to figure out. Iowa St - 13 returning starters (only 4 returning on defense) & nation's most difficult schedule (@ Iowa, Texas Tech, Utah, @ Oklahoma, @ Texas, and Nebraska) Like the the 2006 3OT shoot-out opener against Toledo, the 2010 opener against Northern Illinois could set the tone for the entire season. South, looking to be another competitive year, in order of finish: Oklahoma - 18 starters returning Injuries last year meant alot of people got major playing time and IIRC, is number one in Phil Steele's preseason poll. Texas A&M - 19 starers returning, including most of last year's offense that was 5th nationally. Texas - 14 starters returning. Is this a rebuilding or simply a reloading year? Garrett Gilbert had a baptism by fire in the the 2009 MNC game and once the butterfiles went away, he looked to be promising, but will make rookie mistakes in 2010. Texas Tech - 16 starters returning. Despite a new coach, TT's offense won't change much, if at all espically with Kliff Kinsbury coming in as QB's coach and co-OC. This is a very underrated team and with Tuberville's defensive background, they could be sneaky good in 2010. Oklahoma St - 12 starters returning. This team has lost alot on both sides of the ball and Gundy has fired himself as OC and bought in Dana Holgrosen to call the plays and is a disciple of Mike Leach. Baylor - 14 starters returning. Will Griffin be able to recover the magic from his freshman year?
  2. Agreed. The season theme of "finish" is very similar '94 the "Unfinished Business" season theme. The bracelets are a constant reminder of just how special last year could've been.
  3. When I first heard that UNL was behind the video, I was little uneasy about it as fans and the media will have this game in super duper hype mode that Nebraska officals really didn't need to add fuel to the fire, but I had a change of heart after reading this. It's too bad that national media types picked up on the video and got their panties in a wad over it and removing the Texas reference was playing the PC card. http://www.huskers.c...TCLID=204968869
  4. I'm from South Dakota and have seen plenty of Jack games over the years. The jack rabbits are going to get plastered. They can't hang with decent BCS schools. Sorry, Minnesota was horrid at times last year. I'll eat crow if they put up more than 3. My step-dad is a SDSU alumn and I went along with him to Ames when the Jacks played there a couple of years ago. Biggest hurdle they had then and probably will be the same when the Jacks come to Lincoln is the lack of depth and size.
  5. Love dem fireworks! Congrats Gordon another blast yesterday as well.
  6. I just love how they are over looking Texas Tech, in fact, IMO, TT just may be one of the underated teams that no one is talking about. With the offensive coaches, including Kliff Kingsbury as assistant OC and QB's coach, that offense isn't going to change much and with Tuberville's defensive background, when that program develops a stout defense to go along with that offense, look out. I'm sure after coaching in the SEC, Tuberville is just shaking in his boots about coming to Jack Trice which will probably be 5,000 shy of a sell out.
  7. Same for me. Another Husker mesage board soap opera, just what the internet needs...NOT!
  8. i think many people are underestimating taylor martinez and i wouldn't count out spano just yet either. I recall the coaches speaking highly of Martinez late in the 2009 season and IMO, after 2 major ACL injuries in such a short amount of time, I wonder just how effective Spano will be.
  9. Its ashame the kid didnt look past the foreseeable future and realize that we were going to fire Billy C and hire Bo Pelini and the mad man that is Coach Ekeler. Hard not to blame the kid when there were alot of unknowns at that time. Good thing is that I don't think we'll be seeing too many defensive recruits jumping ship on Signing Day
  10. For me it's not so much staff continuity as it is, Wats had a pretty damn good offense last year. People like to say we were ranked 6th or something in the Big 12 but when you 1) look at where we were ranked nationally and 2) who was ranked above us (TTU, OU, UT, etc), we were actually pretty good on offense. And lets face it, we lost a lot of good players from last years offense. Couple those with some of the injuries we had this year an it's not hard to see why there was some drop off. Albeit, I don't think anyone expected such a huge drop off. But I'm willing to give Wats a little more time. +1 and I don't think the dropoff would have been as big if Lee/HeluBurkhead had all stayed healthy. Even though Watson's comments last fall about it's experience and not years in the system still pisses me off, i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that having the three biggest playmakers on offense injured for most of the year really put the offense behind the 8 ball for most of the 2009 season.
  11. I haven't seen anything in either the OWH or LJS, perhaps someone who lives in Lincoln and "has connections" could provide an update.
  12. Don't our elected officials have more important things to worry about besides the BCS? If the Socialist-in-Chief thinks that sticking his nose into the BCS will boost his dismal approval ratings, he's got another thing coming.
  13. Congrats to Kurt Warner on a Hall-of-Fame career. The man is all class, alot of pro atheletes could learn a thing or two from Kurt.
  14. Cann't buy this kind of good pub for the program. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_staples/01/29/best-classes/2.html
  15. he was the big stain on the Husker carpet that covered the 90's. and still to this day, the Nebraska handling of the LP fiasco is bought up from time to time by the national media.
  16. I really don't know if you can classify who Nebraska's biggest non-conference "rival" is because the non-con schedule is always changing. I will say though, I cann't wait to to have Miami come to Lincoln in 2014 In terms of opportunity to make a statement, I think it would have to be the USC series from 06 & 07.
  17. More inside the link. Knowing that baseball is right around the corner is a great sign that the winter from hell for most of us is almost over. http://www.huskerextra.com/articles/2010/01/29/baseball/doc4b6228fde3f50672098963.txt
  18. and hopefully a 5* RB recruit in Green as well (fingers crossed that Green will be a Husker)
  19. I like this move and it sets up Nebraska for back-to-back nationaly televised games as i'm sure the Texas game will be either an ABC or ESPN national primetime telecast.
  20. The NCAA attempting to control the actions of a regular joe six pack fan is further proof that the NCAA is way toooooooo big and the entire system should be blown up and started from scratch.
  21. http://my.journalstar.com/post/Husker_Extra_Group/Husker_Extra/blog/visiting_with_owa.html
  22. as a Chiefs fan, I love the additions of Crennel & Weis.
  23. Games like that also guarantees no PPV games, either. I like how Nebraska's non-con schedule is shaping up in 2011 and beyond.
  24. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4807719 all I can say is WOW. This after the player in question came out said that it was a misunderstanding. (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4749780) There's gotta be more to the story and i'm sure what happened at KU and TT probably played a role in the decision. Leavitt built South Florida from the ground up and is a helluva coach.
