  1. Blaze is where I take the grandkids (ages 7&5). Good food and a beer for grandpa!
  2. Is this the "Write if you get work ---- hang by your thumbs" Bob Elliott from the Bob and Ray comedy team? Father of Chris Elliott? Maybe it's a different Bob Elliott than the one I'm thinking of...
  3. ESPN just ran an in-game promo for the Music City Bowl featuring Tommy at quarterback today. Do they know something we don't about Tommy's hamstring?
  4. Good question. Ask the Houston Texans this same question and I think you will hear much of the same responses. As for setting records for passing and offense, I think one factor is the Huskers haven't been a passing offense since Vince Ferragamo and David Humm.
  5. Okay, our skill guys had more *s. What about our line? How many stars did we have starting on the line vs Iowa? Iowa's running backs had huge holes to run through on their big plays, and Beathard had time to throw. Our guys, not so much. Our D-line has two guys playing on Sundays now, and one guy playing for Michigan State.
  6. I'm thinking hand-offs with Ryker's left hand will be difficult. Any runs to the right side of the offense will hurt like a mother.

    Fo Fiddy

On Saturday, one of our punt return guys let the center run right past him unblocked. DPE had to call a fair catch. One advantage of the rugby kick is that it allows the punter to run and delays the punt, creating a kind of artificial hang time. But if we don't block anybody at the line of scrimmage, it doesn't make any difference. We aren't going to get much production from punt returns. On BROR after the game Verzal said as an opposing coach, he liked seeing those big slow linemen back as protectors, because they aren't going to make a tackle on the punt returner.
  8. All season long I put up with the public address announcer saying "Jones to punt for the visitors. DPE back to TAKE IT for the Huskers." The same for kick offs. Bryant to TAKE IT for the Huskers. Who says this? This isn't football talk. You receive a punt or return a kickoff. Maybe Fo-Fiddy asked the guy to change the wording to lower our expectations for special teams.
  9. Maybe DoNU will deduct 1/7 of my donation for a Friday night game I can't attend, and cover the cost of the donation with the B1G TV bucks this stupid move generates.
  10. I was also at the game, and the stadium was packed. I had to sit sideways in my seat. Student section was packed. Are you sure you were at Memorial Stadium? In Lincoln?
  11. Last year some guy is standing and yelling at us in our section to "stand up and make some noise!" I said "Hey nube, we're on offense. Wait til the other team gets the ball, and we're right there with you." I got an ovation from the section. So are we standing while the Huskers on offense, but just quietly, so our guys can hear the snap count and audibles?
  12. Cane's is the worst. They have one sauce, no bbq. They have a small number of chicken fingers, a large number of chicken fingers or chicken fingers on a bun. That's it. And one lousy sauce. Runza is a Nebraska original, but I don't think they're open late.
  13. Heisman trophy winner Eric Crouch comes to mind. Frank had to recruit him twice, to keep him in Lincoln.
  14. I had hoped they would consider the definition of a defenseless player. A receiver who has already caught a screen pass and is heading up field isn't a "defenseless player" Even the Super Bowl had a crummy "defenseless player" penalty on a Broncos punt.
  15. If Gerry was ejected for targeting a defenseless player, we need to look at that definition. A receiver diving or jumping and missing a catch is a defenseless player, and hitting a player after the ball is not caught should be enforced. But a player catching a ball and turning up field should not be considered a defenseless player.
  16. really bad call. I thought they might overturn the penalty, and instead they kicked Gerry out again? Worst. Call. Ever.

    5-7

Good stat during the game: NFL teams, NBA teams and NHL teams with losing records in the playoffs Don't watch the games, and they won't schedule 40 anymore. Personally I enjoyed watching these games And the 5-7 teams are 2-0 so far, with Minnesota still to play.
  18. We all stick together in all kinds of weather for good ol' Nebraska U
  19. Remember the CU game in the snow? The old gray lady was rockin' My seats are under the East Balcony, bring it on. BTW forecasts 7 days out are really inaccurate.
  20. Remember the Iowa game? PI called on a clear overthrow. Does Bo let it go? No he takes off his hat and hits the official with his hat. 15 yards later, Iowa goes on to win. As a coach, when I see an opposing player starting to melt down on a call, I know we have got them right where we want them. Today, I told my team to worry about what they can control and let go what they can't including officiating calls. I knew we lost games because of Bo, and now it's confirmed beyond doubt. Good riddance...
  21. Actually I have the team roster on my phone, I check stats (I can't see the stats on the big screens from my seat. I can start listening to Big Red Overreaction while waiting to leave the stadium. I also check scores of other games. I like the expanded wifi. And I don't tweet during the games..
  22. An unforgettable loss, indeed. But that loss is as responsible for Husker lore as any win. It's not that you lose, it's how you respond. As I remember it, that was the only time an Osborne coached team lost to a team with a losing record. Iowa State finished 4-7 that year. A freshman named Tommie Frazier started after that, and changed the Huskers' fortunes. I vividly remember that loss. I was so depressed, I started growing a beard. After the Purdue loss, I started another beard. GBR!!!
  23. First and goal, and we pass twice. Once for a loss on an unblocked "bubble screen" and then the pick. Boos were sounding around Memorial Stadium, not at TA for the pick, but for calling pass plays inside the ten yard line. We get the ball first and goal in the second half and run three times (although I'm not sure why we ran an injured Newby out of the spread with no fullback) and score on TA's QB sweep. So we CAN run it after all. I wondered if the boo birds influenced the play calls in the second half, or just the pick. Either way, I hope it is a lesson learned by the staff.
