  1. Here's my projected DB starters for next year: CB: Dennard and Amukamara NB: Either Gomes or Hagg DB: Either Gomes or someone stepping up, maybe Blue if he gets to pre injury shape FS: Smith or Thenarse (depends on if he gets Medical Redshirt) SS: Hagg or Thenarse This does not take into account anyone who steps up or Freshmen ready to play. Really I have a hard time changing something that works, but Hagg has shown an inability to guard someone running a fly pattern. He's probably had somewhere between 3-5 Pass Interference penalties for face guarding over the season. He'd probably be a better fit at a safety position, which we are losing both starters next year. Dennard needs to learn how to catch and stay healthy but otherwise he's done a good job. Gomes has been very good as our Dime Back, will that translate to him earning a starting spot next year? Who knows. Thenarse is a good hitter and could end up being a player like Asante next year if he gets a medical reshirt for blowing out his knee during the ULL game. Smith has done good when he's gotten to play and hasn't made any glaring plays where he did bad. Overall he looks like he could be a good player. Really I think outside of Suh and possibly Dillard (depends on if Compton or whoever are able to play dime like he did, or we may just go into a 7 DB set) I think of the positions that we'll have to replace seniors on next year, I think there's going to be very little drop off of production.
  2. Yeah I think the 25 days will be more than enough to get the team rested up and focused on the game. I think the biggest thing going right for us in the next game is the fact that the Arizona QB is a straight drop back passer and is not a running threat, something that has given our defense our greatest trouble throughout the year (Reesing and Hanson).
  3. Turner had a great career at Nebraska. Started out with as a Freshman All-American, had a couple of injury filled years, but he pulled out a great year and an especially great game last night. While there will be players that will be able to step into his spot next year (seeing how great our depth is at DE for the next few years) he'll definitely be missed.
  4. The Pass Interference Call that led directly to the Field Goal was the worst and most costly call of the night. IIRC they didn't do anything with the ball afterwards and it's because of the call that they got into field goal range. Also did they get 15 yards on that penalty, was the play even 15 yards down field? Cause if it was under 15 yards and they gave them the 15 yards it's the wrong call. In college it's a spot foul under 15 yards and if the call is past 15 yards it's a 15 yard penalty. Some of the other calls were bad, but this was the only especially bad call (I'm not including the clock at the end of the game) that led directly to points for Texas. Also if Suh would've let up on the last play and didn't pressure McCoy as he did, the game would've been over. Damn you Suh.
  5. I think a lot of his success comes from the players that have surrounded him. He's still a great competitor and a great leader, but I think he's an average QB with above average athleticism and size. He had probably one of the greatest statistical years by a QB, but these past two years his media coverage has been too far off the charts. Bradford and McCoy had better years than him last year, and now that he doesn't have his deep threat WR or Harvin this year, his productivity has dropped even more. Good leader, Great Guy (probably) but I think it goes too far to throw him into the discussion for the greatest college football player ever. He's definitely top 20, but he's no where near top 5. Really I find him crying understandable because of the disappointment he probably felt. I remember during both my Junior and Senior years of High School I cried after our last games. My Junior Year was because it was the last time I'd see my brother play organized ball (been watching him since I was in like 1st grade) and then Senior Year because it'd probably be the last time I'd be involved with a football team (couldn't play because of heart problems). It sucks that he's getting ripped by people for it because it's a slap in the face for all those people who probably felt the same way he did after the game.
  6. I think something similar happened with Michigan and Washington State in the '97 Rose Bowl. You'd have to look it up but WSU pleaded for a second to be put on and got stoned. They would've been in position for a field goal, but this was also during Michigan's Co-National Championship year so take it as you may.
  7. I'm pretty sure the Big XII officiating supervisor came out and said that it was OK to review the clock. This thing has been posted at least 2 other times and there's more stuff in the other topics.
  8. Dennard's a Sophomore this year, West will be a Senior along with Hagg and Blue.
  9. I don't know if this has been discussed before but what about the Pistol Offense for Nebraska? This year Nevada has had 3 1000 yard rushers (first time ever) and have done reasonably well in every year that it's been used (at least I think, haven't done the research but I think they haven't finished with a record under .500). I'm just throwing this out there for something to discuss (though there really isn't a shortage of things this week).
  10. Add into the fact that he plays QB, he could be used as a Wildcat QB, though the same could be said about Burkhead who played QB during his Sophomore year in High School. That's something I'd like to see against Texas, the HB pass that worked so well when Lucky would throw it. Add to the fact that we haven't used it all year and it has the potential to be a big gainer.
  11. The worst year for the North would be in 2005 when no team had a better than .500 win percentage in conference. Nebraska beat Colorado by 27 and then Colorado lost in the CG by 67. It was just terrible. At least this year has Nebraska playing some best defense in the country, Mizzou playing really great on offense, and an up year for Iowa State where they were better then they were since 04 or something. Of course since the Husker offense has been so putrid in Big 12 play and Mizzou lost to Baylor that was without Robert Griffin things can be shown worse than they actually are.
  12. He hurt his back when he was just starting to become more involved in the offense (missed like 2 games because of that) and then when he got healthy we had already moved to the heavy sets that we've been running with only Paul at WR on the field. I don't think he got put in the dog house with Gilleylen and Holt, he just had crap luck with his injuries when he was finally getting some playing time.
  13. I know the Packers of Green and B. Jack, the Rams have Incognito and Carriker, those are the only two teams that I can think of that have more than one husker.
  14. I always saw the Nunn fumble as more of a great play by Aaron Ross more than Nunn screwing up. I mean he turned up field and Ross's helmet was right on the ball. You see this type of play all the time, it just so happened that this time it happened to happened right then.
  15. If we go to the Holiday Bowl I'd want to face USC, why? Because they provide us with the best chance to pick up a W. From what I've seen of USC is that they run a straight up pro offense that I think our defense matches up very well with. Sure Stanford would be a good match up, but none of the USC backs are as good as Gerhart, and Luck is a better QB than Barkley at this point in their careers. I really hope Oregon goes to the Rose Bowl because that is the last team I want Nebraska to face. They are probably the scariest team in the nation on offense this year, and while I have confidence in our defense, I don't think our offense could keep up with whatever our defense gives up (which might be a lot because Masoli is probably the best running QB that we'd face all year, and we've shown that we have problems containing running QBs in the past).
  16. What I saw was that he was running towards to WR and just didn't stop. I don't know if he slowed down at all, but it was definitely a penalty. He didn't do anything to show that he was going to hit the guy other than running through him. Oh yeah he wasn't looking back towards the ball, he was focused on the receiver and hit him in a way that made things look worse than they actually were.
  17. It looked like he played the first half at half speed. He'd go hard initially and then when things got past him he'd shut down and only be jogging towards the ball carrier. I didn't see much of the second half but when Aurora started going on their run he seemed to do better. Maybe he was just saving himself for the second half. I'll definitely say he's a better o-lineman than a d-lineman.
  18. Watching him the championship game has left me not impressed by Rod. It seems like at this level he's using his size more than anything and on defense he's more prone to take plays off than go hard. I think it's hard to really gauge him as a pass blocker because there is no really great DEs in Nebraska in Class B. He does show that he could play at Nebraska because once he gets his paws on someone, they aren't going anywhere. Maybe I'm just not good at evaluating line men but that's what I see. I'll just wait until he gets into Nebraska's weight program. One of the biggest things he needs to work on, IMO, is his foot speed. He just looks slow anytime he moves past the initial point of attack. I do think that he's going to be a beast once he gets everything together and plays against tougher competition.
  19. It's not like it'll be manditory for the players to sign earlier. It just gives the people who know where they want to go the option to sign at a place so they don't have other colleges trying to sway them throughout the season when they want to be focusing on their high school academics and athletics.
  20. That ECU team had Chris Johnson, you know the guy who's leading the NFL in rushing this season. They definitely weren't a bad team that year, they just had some let downs during the middle. IIRC that team beat Va Tech in Va Tech's first game after the College shooting.
  21. Very enjoyable read and I do agree with a lot of what he's said about the College Football season. There's been way too little shake up this season after the year last year when the #2 team lost like 7 times. That and it's always nice to get some National publicity.
  22. I think one of the biggest things with Blount is that he had to be dragged off the field to prevent him from going into the crowd. If Frost wasn't there to hold him back that would've been way more uglier than it already was. But yeah suspending him the whole year was excessive, and Spikes probably should've had more than a game suspension.
  23. I'm going to have to agree with him, I watched part of the ASU/OU game a week back, and they probably have one of the best offenses this year. I definitely think they have the most explosive, I was constantly waiting for them to break a long run or pass every play. Their only bad game offensively so far this year was the first one against Boise.
  24. Ok the main thing about this is that I'm positing that Bo wasn't ready to be a head coach after 2003. While I won't say that Callahan was a great hire (he did have a couple of productive years, but overall his stay here was a failure of the highest degree), I don't know how much better Bo would've been if we had just kept him here. Say what you will, but he earned a whole lot of experience in the years between Nebraska. He was on National Championship contender football programs for all of his years, he probably learned exactly how to run a program like Nebraska from Stoops, and he learned how to win at high levels at both but mostly LSU where he won a National Championship. So while we have no clue how good we would've been if we would've just kept him, I don't think anyone can disagree that coaching at top programs like Oklahoma and LSU didn't prepare him to bring Nebraska back to prominence. (I'm pretty sure that this probably would've been better posted when he was hired or anytime before this, but I just found this message board so I didn't have a chance)
