  1. Defense is horrendous thus far. Lucky, lucky, lucky.
  2. It can be about the same. Odessa to College Station is about 500 miles.
  3. Thats 1 out of every 10 times he carries the ball. Thats absolutely awful at any level, freshman or not. Had Rex fumbled at that pace, he would have lost almost 30 fumbles last year (to put it into perspective). That's 30 extra possessions handed to the other team.
  4. I like how Steve and Dr. Tom share a little water from the same cup. Ah yes, teamwork, that's nice to see.
  5. Silas Redd is on his way to USC. http://m.espn.go.com/ncf/story?storyId=8219810
  6. Any new word on Lacy? Now that we missed out on Harlow, I would think that Lacy and Quessenberry would really start getting the full court press from Bo.
  7. I think he played on the same unit as Alejandro Sweden and Nicholas Norway.............. You toss in Frederick Finland and you got yourself a Scandinavian blitzkrieg.
  8. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the rest of your post, but I do agree with this. I don't really understand why NU has to change for the Big 10 by becoming more of a "power" team with bigger, slower players. Why can't NU be the extremely fast and aggressive team in the conference? Why can't NU continue to run the peso defense with a swarming attitude that teams dread playing because they can't keep up? Why can't other teams in the conference have to adapt to NU's style of play rather than the other way around? I don't claim to be as knowledgeable as any of the coaches nor as knowledgeable as most of the people on this board, but this is the way I see it. When I heard that NU was switching to a more traditional 4-3 defense, I wondered what the purpose was. Is the Big 10 content on beating each other up every week with physical, slow football and then getting smoked in the bowls by teams from the "faster" conferences (I did no research on this to see how true it is, but this is usually the consensus)? I think Nebraska needs to continue to strive to be the fastest team in the conference, the most aggressive team in the conference, the most disciplined team in the conference. Make the rest of the conference realize that the Big 10 doesn't have to be labeled as slow and boring. There is enough speed in the country to go around, plus speed is something that can be somewhat developed with the proper strength and conditioning program (I do realize that a large part of speed is God given). Stay fast and aggressive Nebraska. It is your key to success in my eyes. It depends on what you Think we are Changing. The Offence? Nebraska isnt really changing anything they use their speed to beat teams, read the Sam Mckeweon article yesterday about the Ohio State game. Defense you bet we are changing the way we run things. The Big TEN plays a different Brand of Football and the Peso wont work against most teams. The smaller faster LBs get worn down against the bigger backs and Oline. Of course we saw a step back in the defense this year Pelini schemed, recruited, and implemented a Defense to stop the Spread Offence of the Big 12 and last season he had to make a 180 and scheme for a whole new style of play in the Big 10. I can guarantee you that the defense will be better this year because of that. You can almost think of it as running a new offence on defense. I'm not really referring to the offense as much as the defense. Is the Big 10's style of play different than the other BCS conferences? Yes, no doubt. Would good teams from the other conferences that are faster, more attacking and aggressive have success in the Big 10 for an entire year? I believe they would. I don't think NU came out of the Wisconsin or Michigan games in any worse physical condition than they would have after playing an Oklahoma , South Carolina or a Virginia Tech. Did Nebraska have more injuries this year because of the Big 10? Did they appear to be more worn down at the end of the year because of the Big 10? Not in the slightest. The only thing that hurt Nebraska was Nebraska.

  10. Bo can and will, but he needs to start winning Championships. If Bo starts winning championships with the 3 and 4 star guys he gets now, then why wouldwe need the 5star "elite" guys? That's a big if, bro. Need to land some of these guys the big sharks are after if we want to accomplish the lofty goals we all set for NU. (Don't mind me. I'm just irritable 'cause we lost out on yet another big recruit. And I f'ing HATE little laney kwiffin, regardless of who his dad is.) I absolutely agree with you. NU needs to recruit well to start being a top 10 team every year. My problem is this: Everyone thinks we need big time recruits so we can start winning championships, but then say that we need to start winning championships so that we can start getting these elite recruits like Cravens. This doesn't make sense. One of these will have to happen without the other.

  12. The Lions also need help at WR, so I predict a Brandon Kinnie selection at the 23rd pick.
  13. In high school, this is an "offense". In college, this is a "package". NU ran a little bit of this this year at times, and if i recall correctly, it worked fairly well. Running this kind of stuff a few plays per game would be worth while, but by no means should Nebraska try to run this somewhat exclusively (not sure if this was the OP's intent, but just wanted to get that out there).
  14. I like Bo, always have, but in a way, isn't Peter somewhat right?
  15. So how about we keep the same offense for more than a year instead of changing so we can recruit guys that fit the system. Now we might be on to something. A little continuity never hurt.
  16. Seriously?!? Didn't take long for the Scott Frost crowd to show up. Honestly what more experience did he have more than Beck again???? Oh yeah maybe he could have helped restrain Zo like he did Blount once upon a time ago. You sir, are not the brightest star in the sky. Go on now, go keep drinking red kool aid and your delusional sandwich. Some people just don't get it I guess. And all I asked were what Frost brought to the table other than playing for the team??? You seem to discredit Beck real quick, when Frost has done the about the same before the hiring. Some people also don't get it, the late 90's are not going to return due to having "Nebraska guys" on the staff. But please humor me with more of what ever it is you drink It would be okay if we didn't perform well though, because he's a NEBRASKA guy. Scott Frost also is at Oregon who last time I checked, has much better talent than Nebraska. Do they? Does Oregon truly have better talent overall? I know recruiting stars are typically a joke in the long run, but they do judge raw "talent" decently well, and stars for stars, is Oregon's "talent" that much better than NU's? I honestly don't believe that's the case. Oregon runs a wail of an offensive system that takes good football players and makes them look great. Oregon is good because of coaching and development (offensively anyway), not because they are so much more talented than the other teams they play. If Oregon and NU switched recruiting classes every year, I think Nebraska would still be 9-4 this year (10-3 at best). James, Barner, Thomas, Thomas, UO Oline are good because they fit Kelly's system to a T. Make them play in NU's scheme and they are not much better than what NU has now, IMHO.
  17. I know that the pro bowl counts for absolutely nothing, but if the NFC doesn't win this going away, I'd be surprised.
  18. And had your hand daintily placed upon another man's shoulder.
  19. I agree with this 100%. If the coaches' plan is to milk the clock and head for the bus, what takes more time off the clock? A 3 and out (but taking the play clock to 1 each play), or a 10 play - 80 yard drive? I think we all know the answer to this, plus we might put some more points on the board. 20 pts is not an insurmountable lead. Iowa scored 7, and were one long pass to McNutt away from only being down one score. Now, had NU scored a td in the 4th and made it 27-0, that is demoralizing and Iowa would have had no shot, and these discussions about whether Carnes should have played would actually have merit. With that said, and this is not the point of the OP, I do not think Carnes should have played yesterday. As I said, 20 pts is not a huge lead in today's football. Bo made the right call on that.
  20. This is fine with me. Good luck to Iowa in 2012 as well. I hope you have a great day.
  21. Nope. I like it too. I like drives instead of the big play. We've had the big play sprinkled in there some times this year, but most of our scores have come off solid drives. Totally unlike the past couple of years. We've become a speedy, and sometimes physical offense. We are multiple. We can be hard to defend when everyone is playing spot on. I do too. I just thought the O got a little too conservative after NU went up by 20. Another long, sustained drive to put us up 27-0 would have really been icing on the cake, but instead they went a little too vanilla. I really don't care since we won, but in the future, it would be nice to be able to put teams away and really keep the pedal to the metal.
  22. I was going to post a thread just like this. 20 pts is a nice lead, but where's the killer instinct to hang 27, 34, 40+ pts on teams anymore? I'm not saying NU would have rolled up 40+ on Iowa today, but what is wrong with trying? The D was playing well today, so 20 pts was more than enough to win it, but it seems like Bo is afraid to run it up on teams a little. Days like today where the D is playing well is all the more reason to take a few shots and keep playing aggressively with a healthy lead. Pelini has been doing this since the day he got here. I once heard a coach say that he didn't like winning games by large margins if you were going to play them again the following year. Leaves more out there for bulletin board material and other motivation. I don't like it, but it isn't a ludicrous statement. I'm not for hanging 60+ on 1AA schools. I love a little sportsmanship. But putting a 30 pt shellacking on a decent BCS school is a nice way to boost confidence moving forward, whether it be for the next game or the next year. Here's to a blow out in the bowl game.
  23. Pelini needs to figure out exactly what he wants to accomplish here, and set up the offense/defense to accomplish that. Once that is done, he can go out and recruit the guys that best fit what he wants to do. They want to be smashmouth? Go out and recruit the hell out of the biggest and baddest Olinemen in the country, redshirt them, get them in the weight room, and by the time they are jrs/srs, let the pipeline roll. Go after the best rbs. If they want to run some type of finesse offense (which I really don't care as long as it works), then go after fleet wr's and gunslinger qb's and pass protecting Olinemen. Right now, it just doesn't seem like NU knows exactly which direction it wants to go, but I think they're on the right path. Give it some time fellas. If we're chatting with our family after thanksgiving dinner in 2014 about these same issues, then we've got problems. I have faith in Pelini, always have. He'll figure it out.
  24. I don't want to be like another team-I want to be like the winning teams of Nebraska gone by. When we start trying to be something we're not we get into huge trouble (i.e. Callahan-Pederson experiment!) Let's be who we are: Smashmouth/tough/running football team. Oklahoma didn't have to stick to the wishbone....... There was a period of time between the wishbone and the more recent teams where Oklahoma absolutely sucked (90s). Now Oklahoma has an identity on offense and are consistently in the MNC picture. They were 61-51-3 during the 90s. Nebraska's worst decade(2000s, 84-44) in the past 50 years was not even close to being that bad. If we give this system some time and get a little continuity in the staff, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will most likely become a contender again.
  25. This is right on the money. If you gave Martinez the line that Frazier, Frost, Crouch had, we'd be singing his praises. The past QBs could get away with completion % in the 40s because of the dominant nature of the rest of the offense. Nebraska gains 8 on 1st down after pummeling the opposing Dline making it 2nd and 2. Next play they take a shot down field and don't get it. Too bad, so sad. 3rd and 2 they turn around and hand off or run behind a superior Oline, getting the first down. This trend continued most of the game. Doesn't lead to great passing stats, but the Huskers win the game and usually won big. Now, today. Martinez hands off or runs for a gain of <2, making it 2nd and long. On 2nd and 2, they run again for a gain of <2 yards, making it 3rd and long. This is a obvious passing down, which makes it more difficult for Martinez to be successful through the air. Had 1st and 2nd down been more fruitful, it opens up the playbook a little more. In summation, Nebraska of old passed because they WANTED to, now Nebraska passes because they HAVE to, mostly due to a lack of play by the guys up front. I'm not saying that Martinez is better than the other QBs mentioned, but I have a hard time believing that any of the QBs mentioned would be much more successful with the personnel/schemes that Taylor has to work with. Also, don't forget how poorly the D has played this year, which certainly doesn't make it any easier on a QB or an offense as a whole (I understand that the D's problems may stem from lack of ball control on O, but that's not the point of this thread).
