  1. That makes me even more proud to call Bo our head football coach. Some people don't believe Petrino's actions off the field should have any consequences of his job, but I believe it does. With Bo rattling off those quotes and being protective of his image is important, it sells us in a better light. On the football field, he can be a "madman", although I don't think he is, but he tells parents and recruits up-front what they are expected to get in return. That's the best part about all of it. Bo is up-front, will hold guys accountable, but at the end of the day he loves his team and wants them to be better than they are. It's all about the "process" as he says and this clearly is an example of more than "just an athlete" or more than "just a football coach." Like it or not, he is the program and he is the University, and he is putting us in a good light with this quote. I do find it odd he was questioned about it. Maybe it's from an older interview, or maybe they thought of asking him because he is so "radical" on the field, they wanted to get a quote that might make him look like that but he delieved some good ones we should all live by. Truly the Nebraska way.
  2. Kudos for Kellogg if he is closing in on the #2 spot. I would think Carnes would be a bonafide #2 because he has better running ability than Kellogg. At least from what I've heard/read. However, if he can pass that much better than Carnes, then it might be a case we adjust the offense a little to more quarterback passing, as opposed to quarterback running/reads/options. I thought I read somewhere Kellogg tore his ACL a few times and that has really hindered his ability to run, or has he always been more of a pocket passer?
  3. 2013 and 2014 set up great for us. However.... So let's see if I got this straght. In 2011 and 2012: We get Ohio State, Wisconsin. 2013 and 2014: We get Illinois and Purdue. The odd team out in all of this, besides Penn State becuause they are our cross-over rivalry, is Indiana. So does that mean in 2015/2016, when it should be a return of @Wisconsin, vs., Ohio State, @ Penn State...Where do they plug in Indiana in that? How is it determined Ohio State or Wisconsin gets left off that schedule for room of Indiana? Are we switching to 9 conference games a year in 2015? I don't doubt the B1G leadership/decision making, I guess I'm just confused and haven't heard exactly how it will be done. In the Big XII, minus any cross over, you could always count on a mix of: Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor every two years, followed up by another two years of Texas, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. I'm sure they have it figured out but I have not stumbled across it yet.
  4. I'm in-different about our current uniforms. I don't hate them, but I'm not in-love with them. I understand why we wore the 1962 uniform in 2009. I thought those uniforms were ugly as hell, but I understood why we did it, which was the important thing. I think doing a throwback that is in memory of a tradition or event is pretty cool. So under that rule, I think we should have rolled out the 1971 jersies last year in memory of that season. No one will be able to convince me otherwise, but as stated in this thread in various places, the 2001 uniforms were, and will always be, my favorite and best look for Nebraska. They were stylish, yet still classic & traditional. They were made evenly and looked sharp on the field. If we went anywhere with our uniforms, we would be use these. I also believe you could do an alternative out of these as well. Red on red with white socks, or white on white with red socks. That would be different, yet still traditional, and yes I know our record with one color on one color, but I think that is more who is in the uniform rather than the uniform itself. Some might call me crazy, but I am a part of the younger Husker generation and not some "old-fart telling kids to sit down." With all that being said... Doing an alternative uniform should be done during homecoming. Not senior day, not a big game, but I think homecoming would be an ideal yearly game for it. I think doing ONE alternative uniform for ONE game won't hurt anything. Just please NO black-on-black-on-black!!! There has to be red and white in the uniform and it has to be in a good spot. White numericals with black jersies would be boring. I have the mindset that black is not an official school color. Yes, other Nebraska teams do share a shade of black in them, but I don't believe they should. If we went back to the 2001 look, I would never say another word about uniforms as I've clearly stated my case numerous times on here, as have others, but this makes for a good debate because everyone has their opinions and options. Off-season FTW. I just don't want anything crazy, and Tom won't let it get crazy, but I will reserve judgment and make a fair evaluation, like most of us probably will when they are unvieled. I just have a bad feeling. Also, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that players are saying they will "play harder/better in different uniforms". Are you kidding me?! You don't play hard to begin with? Or the one quote. and I'm para-phrasimg, "To show them we are a different Nebraska", that made me cringe! I know the players don't mean it as "we are satisfied with mediocrity and we aren't aiming for conference/national titles" but that's just how it came off and rubbed me the wrong way. As long as they aren't ridiculous, aren't over-done, wore once maybe twice a year [one road and /or one away game], don't open Pandora's box, don't sell out, but stll be about wanting to represent the state, the fans, the students, the former greats, and selling the brand for future generations while aspirign to win conference and national titles, then I will be fine with that. If we lose sight of those goals, then we lose ourselves and become "another team" something I dearly want to avoid at all costs.
  5. -No injuries -Progression of the offense/Martinez's mechanics -No stupid plays/penalties/mental mistakes -Creative, but we won't see it because it's the spring game -Aggressive and improved defensive line play -Offensive line blowing guys off the line -Minimal drops -Special teams perfection -How the kickoff rules will effect the philosophy on special teams -Play all out
  6. It maybe a little arrogant and a tad ridiculous to say "We will be dissapointed if we are not playing in the National Championship game" when we weren't even in the conference title game last year, let alone won* a conference title since 1999* However.... The mindset is correct in terms of "We are here to play for and win a National Championship", that is an end-goal in mind while not sounding arrogant. Neither does "one game at a time" or "We want to win them all." The end goal is the important thing. I think it would be fine to want to talk about winning a conference title before talking National title, babysteps, but we are moving in the right direciton. I would agree more with the 2nd quote as opposed to the 1st quote.
  7. I admit, I was not very old during the Clinton years and barely alive for the later part of Regan's 2nd term. Clinton is a guy who you'd want to have a drink with, but I was not a fan of him looking back on his precidency. Clinton was not a fan of the 2nd Amendment, and we were attacking other countries and in places we should not have been and bombing the hell out of them. Lying under oath was not good, and no I don't care if he had an affair, but at least be honest about it when you get your hand in the cookie jar. The problem I had was with the lie, not the action. I'm not a fan of spend, spend, spend, tax, tax, tax, and increasing the national debt either. I thought his foreign policy, while not as bad as Bush or Obama, was pretty bad too. Regan talked a good game, but his continuous eslecation of the War on Drugs put us in a huge financial bind. He also talked of small government but his time in office did not reflect that.
  8. Unfortunately, Romney will be the nominee. And also unfortunately, Obama will be re-elected and the downside of our country continues. Santorum is not-likeable, Gingrich is absolutely insane and very authoritarian, Romey is a flip-flopper depending on who he is talking too. The only candidate that is electable and has the right ideas and direction is Ron Paul, and that's who my vote is going to come hell or high water, just like when I voted for him in 2008. We haven't had a good president since John F. Kennedy though.
  9. Very, very excited about Armstrong. Let's not over-hype him like he's already Tommie Frazier or get down on him when he gets his shot if he turns out to be Joe Dailey. Glad to have him aboard, I for one think he will be great, an awesome pick up for us.
  10. Loved the artcile, Tom asked some very good questions, and Bo gave some solid answers and he does seem to be on a mission. Hopefully we can walk the walk this year, because I love his attitude and desire, it's time to start seeing the results on the field. I'm glad Bo wrapped it up at the end like he did, I think all of this was needed to gather the troops [fans, players, coaches] and start moving together now.
  11. This is the best definition I would cite for a "game manager". When it comes down to "what kind of quarterback do I want at Nebraska", I do not want a game-manager, I want a game-breaker. Someone that the defense has to account for at all times. Someone that can get his teamates involved and still be a threat himself. Someone that if the defense puts a spy on, or two spies, it will free another playmaker up on the field somewhere, and it's essentially a pick your posion of what you want to stop. Just look at all the game-breaking quarterbacks we had in the past that defenses had to account for: Lord, Crouch, Frost, Frazier, Gill. Those are the types of quarterback we need. Granted, Lord was not the best thrower of the bunch, but he was a heullva athlete and our only option for quarterback with little talent around him. W We need to get guys in recruiting that have "similar traits" to: Bubba Starling,. Carl Crawford, Donovan McNabb, Vince Young, Steve McNair type quarterbacks. We have Brion Carnes and we do go after dual threat quarterbacks, and I hope it stays that way. A game manager would be Zac Lee, and Cody Green's role in 2010. A game manager may not get you that big play, but he won't lose big yards to make dumb plays that will cost you. I think Taylor made a LOT of strides last year, and I was please to see him grow into the role. But, he's still "learning the position". While defense may keep an eye on Taylor, he didn't have many game-breaking plays as I thought he would. He has absolutely amazing acceleration going north & south, but laterally, I don't think he has that same speed or awareness/acceleration. This is not a knock on Taylor, but just more of an observation. I would like to see him make plays with his feet on 3rd and 8 if no one is open. I want to see him scramble and get those yards, and get tough yards when needed. There were times he could have taken off and got the first down, instead of throwing a dangerous pass. I think he needs to work on his "open field" moves and making the first guy miss & I don't think that' gets talked about enough. Some of that could be by design. He may have been told not to scramble as much because of the depth issue. He just doesn't look comfortable when no one is open and trys to find the first down with his legs, but rather, he forces passes On the option game he seems hesitant, but I will give him some slack there, he probably hasn't ran a whole lot of option before. I think he needs to be more aggressive taking it up-field, and make the defense comitt to one or the other. But again that takes a ton of practice and experience, especially for someone that is very, very, new to the option game, more so than anything else. When it comes to the zone read, and he keeps it up the middle, he is absolutely a magician, and I think one of the very best to hold the ball in the belly of the running back before pulling it out. A prime example of that is the Ohio State game, and what he did in 2010. He showed flashes of it in 2011, but no real long touchdown runs. Which is why running a shotgun-spread style Florida or Oregon offense would be best suited to run, with I-Formation and Diamond sets mixed in. I hope we are headed that direction. I don't want to turn this into a Taylor thread, but those are just my observations on what I see as Taylor the "Game manager" and how I want to see Taylor as the "Game-breaker".
  12. Tall red socks for home. Tall white socks on the road. Go back to our 2001 uniforms completely. I noticed it on the touchdown. They look "okay" for throwback ideas but anything past a throwback idea I think would be bad.
  13. I think South stadium is next. I would LOVE to see another jumbo-tron in the South end-zone to mimic the north one. It's very hard to hear the sound in South stadium, and adding a jumbo-tron there would make it louder, easier to hear, add more seats to be louder in general, and look more intimidating. I would also like to see the word 'Nebraska' on the jumbo-tron be able to light up during night games. I know it' just a little thing, but I feel like it would add a lot to a night game atmosphere instead of it being blacked out as it is when it gets dark. Student section should be addressed better, but it won't be because of the money, sadly.
  14. Enhance said it best and correctly. Bo does not have familiarity with a 3-4 and has never ran it. I don't see him switching because of that. Could he tweak his scheme? Sure. But I think his base will be his base defense forever. With that being said, I won't question Bo if he does change, I just don't see it happening. He is one of the best defensive minds in the game, he will get it all sorted out. Meredith is too slow to be a 3-4 outside linebacker. Yes, he did play the "spinner" position in 2010, but I think he was lighter then than he is now, and the "Spinner" position is not even close to the same thing as an outside linebacker. With the hiring of Iowa's former defensive line coach, I think they usually ran a 4-3 if I'm not mistaken, so Bo is getting guys that believe and understand his philosophy. However, to play devil's advocate, we did go from a 5-2 to a 4-3 in the early 90s under McBride. So it's not impossible we would switch base defenses, however, given his background, I don't see it happening. We need to get faster on defense though. The pass rush was not there, and I didn't feel we were aggressive enough as we should have been. Hopefully that changes with the way our roster looks next year & how we are recruiting. I think our secondary will be just fine, but we have to get the front 7 to play better.
  15. Lando, I hope you do come back to the Husker faithful. I can understand frustration, and this off-season will be longer than the last because of the disappointing ending and grim looking 2012, but I think once the spring game starts, and the fever starts to hit, you'll remember all of the things that made you love Nebraska in the first place. And if not, then that is up to you and good luck in your future of your favorite football team. I don't think any team will get to you like Nebraska did. At least that's how I feel, maybe it's just me. There's a difference between being a blind follower of a team with red color glasses and saying "Everything is okay, NOTHING TO SEE HERE", and just having concerns and questionable decisions, but sticking through it because it's your love as a fan once the ball is teed up. I think all fans can be questionable to what a team is doing, however, most of those fans still WANT the team to do AS BEST as they can, despite what they might not agree with. See: William "Bill" Callahan, 2004-2007. If we can survive that, we can survive anything. I think we can all agree, if we were the head coach at Nebraska, we would ALL do something different. If it was as big as a certain style of offense, to as little subtle changes, such as what the team does on a Friday night before the game. We would all handle the job differently. There were people that had questions and concerns under Osborne and Solich, but most still stuck around and supported the team because they trusted the program. I would change a few things if I were the head coach, but at the end of the day, we aren't with the players or on the field at practice, so we just have to trust the coaching staff and HOPE for THE BEST! It just seems as if the OP is nitpicking at things. Recruiting, player management, on-field antics, etc. It's okay to discuss win loss record, image, etc., but I think we need to look at the big ideas and not the nit-picking such as the OP stated. I will never stop watching Nebraska football, but to state that you want to be a follower of a new team because of the nit-picking, then by all means, go find a new team. All I'm saying is, it's okay to have concerns and maybe want to do things differently, but at the end of the day, you just want to see the Huskers do & hope for the best as they can. I'm not saying 6-6 is acceptable, or not making the Conference title game is acceptable either, but we all want to see the program win conference titles and compete for BCS bowls and make that magical run at a BCS Title every now and then. I think we can under Bo, we just need to give him time. That's what I do, and I'm sure that's what most of us do. We can run Texas Tech offense, or run a 3-3-5 base defense, but at the end of the day, if that's what we have on the field, we just want to see them win, as opposed to picking at every single detail we can.
  16. Its not quite that, its that we elect people who don't know anything about politics and they screw the up the government because they don't know what they are doing. Well yeah I know how the "voting" works I was just generalizing the process...... What I meant was: We all know how much of a slime-ball he is, and the fact he is running for political office, he will get Republicans to vote for him, just because he is running as a Republican, and the majority won't know about his past or his ideologies. This is how we get idiots in Congress and idiots in the White House and thus ruin the country. We don't need MORE people like Craig James even THINKING about running for ANY political agenda. We need the exact opposite of him running for political holdings. You know, people that know what they are doing, like you said. That is what I meant. Not talking about the voting process, I know how that works. And yes, people do not do their research when voting either.
  17. This is what's wrong with politics. We need LESS corrupt politicians, not MORE corrupt politicians. He already has a good record going for him though. That whole SMU and Mike Leach thing give him instant credibility.
  18. Solich will be fired soon for his 10 win season, right? Congrats to Solich and Ohio though. I think he got the shaft when he was here, and I thought he was a decent coach, just not a very good recruiter, and his staff got lazy with recruiting too, I think age set in on some of that. Maybe he is better suited at a smaller school where recruiting isn't as cut-throat as it is at a place like Nebraska or a top 25 school.
  19. I think the majority of Husker fans and the rest of the country see that Bo is doing a good job. Yes, he has faults, we have inconsistencies, but we are young, and learning. I think da skers is dead on accurate. I also think that it's the SMALL MINORITY of EXTREMISTS Husker fans, that *MIGHT* drive Bo away. Those are the people that constantly blow up his Twitter account, or blow up players Twitter accounts for losing. Or the ones that call and harass him on his phone, or anything that is personal. I think Bo is ticked off at those people, not the majority of the fans. I am 100% behind Bo and I have stated that numerous times on here, however, I think that when ONE fan criticizes him in any way shape or form, I think he believes that's how the rest of the fan base feels. I would hope he knows that it's only the crazy fans that feel like that and not the majority of fans that have his back. It's somewhat of a compliment that other teams are interested in Bo. We just have to keep hoping and supporting him, the staff, and the players that we appreciate their hard work, and that it is a process, and when we *get there* it will be that much sweeter, and hope that Bo turns down any and all offers because he is happy here. He knows how Husker fans were like during Solich last year and when he got fired. He knew what he was getting himself into. We just have to avoid any extremists points of view, because not only does that hurt us now, it will hurt us in the long-run if Bo ever left. Face it guys. We don't have a coach who the country knows will stay at Nebraska forever. The days of the Devaney, Osborne, and Solich, who would be here until they retire and we know they wouldn't get pulled away from other teams, are over. It's just the times of the era. No, he isn't the only coach that can wit at Nebraska. But I want Bo here and I am damn proud to call him our head coach.
  20. That's what I miss most about a Nebraska quarterback. They would put their bodies on the line to open up a play. I cant recall Frazier doing what Frost, Crouch, Lord did on a play like that from Frost above, but I know Frazier did his fair share to contribute, obviously. Frost was all heart out there and it showed on those plays. Yeah, that's our quarterback out there doing that. What are you going to do? Truly, an 11 on 11 play.
  21. Here ya go Knapp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwxOYwPYTuk And also Joel Mackovica blowing up A&M that day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VykWmBkhBzc
  22. Eric Crouch pretty much did everything that a college football quarterback could do besides win a National Championship. Not many though win it all, much less play in a title game. Crouch, so far, has been my favorite player to watch at Nebraska. Every time he had the ball, you felt like you had the chance to see something special and had the ability to put the team on his back and carry them to victory. In 1999, had it not been for everyone fumble the ball, or if the numbers had not been stitched onto the jerseys, we probably would have won the National Title that year. Crouch was good that year, but not as good as his 2000 or 2001 self. The 1999 defense was flat out awesome and National Championship caliber, except for the fumbles. We still should have been playing for the National Title that year and we would have won it. We were the best team playing at the end of the 1999-2000 year. I loved watching him run the option because he was always trying to get vertical up the field as fast as possible, he took a ton of punishment and made good pitches to sell the option. He was always trying to get as much yards as possible as fast as he could. He always got up, represented toughness that we want to see on the field, and had a never say die attitude, and kept fighting on every drive and every play. We had no business being in the 2002 Rose Bowl. You cannot blame Crouch for the debacle in Colorado. The defense was gutted by Shawn Watson of all people, and we could not adjust. We also looked slow as molasses against Miami. Our linebackers and defensive line was not as fast as they needed to be to keep up with Miami. The 01 team had good play-makers around Crouch, but I feel the 2000 offense was much better all-around. I think at times it was Crouch verses the world, not only because when nothing was working Eric tried to make something out of nothing, but that's how Solich called the plays, unfortunately. I fault Solich for designing the offense around Crouch only. Yes, Crouch should be used for the option and quarterback run game to open the pass, but it was Solich's fault for not getting other play-makers involved more, recruiting better players, and taking some heat off of Crouch. I still can't believe Wilson Thomas was under-utilized as much as he was. Not everyone is perfect. Crouch went back to Omaha after not being named the starter, that is not disputed. Some say he quit and have sources, some say that he never quit and he was just frustrated because he felt he performed better. Could Solich have lost credit for the decision? Maybe. But he also kicked DeAngello Evans off the team before that year. Perhaps it was truly two different situations and each situation was treated differently, much like we see with Bo now. Even Crouch today, admits that he wish he would have handled the NFL differently. Showing signs of maturity. Maybe he was just a little immature in that regard. However, I hear he is one of the nicest guys off the field, and would even send "Thank you" notes to trainers for taping his ankles and taking care of any and all injuries. That doesn't seem like a selfish attitude or a "me" attitude at all. I think it is really hard and really unfair to pin Nebraska's downfall on one guy. No one guy is bigger than the program. You can pin 2002 for a number of reasons for why we went 7-7. Crouch was not a part of that equation. It was mostly on the coaches for not recruiting well or getting guys in games earlier, that part I agree. But Crouch has not been a member of the football team since 2001. Crouch had a good statistical day at Colorado, but the defense blew it horribly. Against Miami, the team was not prepared, and Miami was one of the best teams ever. No shame in losing to a team of their caliber, but the way they lost was pretty embarrassing and you wished they would have shown up better, and that is on the coaches. Miami just had to key on Crouch and that's how you stopped the 2001 offense. Had the coaches throughout the season gotten more play-makers involved, much like Osborne did, maybe things would have turned out different. I still wonder how Osborne would have utilized Crouch during those years. Crouch did come back after not being named the starter, and all he did was, win the starting job, win a boatload of games, awards, a Big XII Championship and do the best he could with what was on the team offensively, defensively, and coaching wise. I think you can blame Solich's staff for not keeping up with recruiting and getting players involved for slipping off the radar, but I just think it's unfair to blame ONE player for a downfall. If you blame ANY one person for the downfall at Nebraska. Look at Steve Pederson, not Eric Crouch.
  23. Go Titans!!! This isn't funny just stupid. What was he trying to do anyways? If he's mentally challenged i apologize in advance. I think he was trying to be "Dexter" from the white-blood stained jacket he was wearing. Also, you can't see it in the GIF, he sat down a few rows from me and I saw him when standing outside before the game began, there was a bird at the top of his straw hat. Not sure what that was supposed to represent. We were playing the Spartans that game, but I don't know if it had anything to do with Michigan State or not. I saw him at the next game and he was wearing the same outfit as well. Still pretty funny, he acted very oddly, yet funny, but he was not mentally challenged as far as I could tell.
  24. @ Washington, 2010 I believe. Juked a guy out of his shoes too. Great play by Fonzie.
